Morning vibes
David G.

Had a really filling and delicious brunch. The salvadorian breakfast was a great balance of different things. And the pupusas were up there with the best I've ever had. They treated us like family so the service was key as well. We had never tried this place and it did not disappoint. Were glad we found it. The vibes were family driven and we really enjoyed our breakfast/ lunch here at this place. They also had plenty of soups and some mexican food items. Something I will look forward too.

We walked in for the 1st time, and it looked clean, but the window seal was dirty, dead fly, spiderweb, and the menue dirty. We were going to order the food ( yes, even though it didn't look clean). The guy that was getting ready to take our order said, " The prices have gone up a little " me. Ok, how much is the carne encebollada?" He said 19. Ok, that's not a little on the menue it said 11.50. That's 8. Dollars more than what it's saying here and on the website. We walked out the portal was 14. We are not eating here. All of the prices are on the website and in person.

Tomato sauce that accompanied the pupusas. It came in a bag, but we poured it into dippng bowls.

The staff were terrific, but the food was not nearly as impressive. We tried the azada and the pork pupusas. They were large, but there was very little filling (nearly nonexistent) and they were extremely greasy. The tomato sauce that accompanies them was delicate and I would return for that any time. However, the slaw was not pleasant. We also tried the azada burrito "wet" (covered in green sauce.) The green sauce was sadly lacking flavor. The burrito was filled primarily with rice and a little very tough and very, very salty meat. The radishes were fresh and crisp and very much the star of this show.

Shrimp soup and rebuelta pupusa!

It's divey, casual, and I had to swat away a large mosquito since I was sitting next to a large open window but the FOOD shined. I got the Caldo de Camaron (Shrimp soup) and a Rebueltas Pupusa. I didn't realize the soup also came with 2 thick tortillas and a plate of mixed rice so it obviously became too much food for me. But the important part was the soup with the huge shrimp and the cheesy pupusa, which came with a jar of pickled veggies that cut down the richness and went well with everything. It was SO satisfying. The soup was creamy, had large chunks of veggies, and juicy shrimp. Definitely a winner. Would love to come back to try more different soups, pupusas and maybe the breakfast!

It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. There was one that we were interested in and asked if we could have it which the waitress working was ok with. But it needed clearing up. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. The flavors of everything were quite tasty. Dishes were 12.00 an item. For happy hour, it was decent and what we had was good. The service was pretty slow at the beginning. Only the front patio and inside seating was available as the back patio wasn't open. We did start to see other staff walking in so maybe there was only one staff during the time.

Did someone say TACO TUESDAY RECESSION MENU?!…read more This place was a vibe and served some heavy pours in their margi-rita's. We tried the jamaiica, cucumber, and regular ELBC margi-rita and I can guarantee you we felt a nice buzz. For food, we ordered taquitos de papa, half dozen oysters, 6 tacos (carnitas, carne, and pollo), quesadillas, and the el crunchy shrimp tempura roll. Our spread was litty! Prices were reflective on their recession menu which I think was cleverly designed. Service and ambience were great. Catching up with friends on taco Tuesday is always a good time. Shout out to the friendly bartender who effortlessly set us up next door for a last minute reservation. Thank you so kindly, your kindness and service will not be forgotten!

Usually for brunch time on the weekend. The first time I've ever had a Tlayuada was here a while back and have always enjoyed it. I was actually craving some since it's been likely over a year since we last visited. The hubby had 2 tacos plates. The birria was very good, the asaea delicious but very rich. I've never been a fan of black beans but these were tasty. My Tlayuada hit the spot and chase it down with a Penelope. When we arrived we were the only ones there. The server was attentive and check on us throughout our visit. Engaging and friendly. The interiors are cost and warm with plants and green as the main color. Nice murals throughout.

Sunset here is incredible too. The pricing makes sense to me. I think the flavors are all there. Anyone complaining probably couldn't prepare the same dish half as good. Honestly, I…read moreprobably should've written one after my first visit because back then the food and drinks were off the chain! This most recent visit? The food was just... okay. I will say this: they have some of the best chips and salsa. The chips are crispy, warm, and taste super fresh. I'm a sucker for good chips and salsa. It's easily one of my favorite parts of going to a Mexican restaurant, and they definitely deliver there. Their cocktails continue to be consistently delicious. My absolute favorite is the cucumber jalapeño margarita, refreshing with just the right kick. They never miss on the drinks. As for the food, I've had their enchiladas and tacos before. This last time I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. When I hear "blackened," I expect bold seasoning and flavor. That's not what I got. They were pretty basic and underwhelming for the price. Two tacos for $17, plus an additional $5 per shrimp taco? That felt excessive for what was served. Service was okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Now, the location? You can't beat it. Being upstairs at 2nd & PCH with the Alamitos Bay view is a whole vibe. It's a perfect setting for date night or drinks with friends. They don't validate parking, but the first 90 minutes are free, which helps. Overall: great drinks, amazing chips and salsa, beautiful location , but the food (at least this time) didn't quite match the price point.

He left again, waited another 15 minutes to take our food order. Lol. Ordered my shrimp cocktail along with other entrees. Our waiter was ghosting us every 15 minutes. Overall, the ambiance was busy. Omg my friend's taco salad was an insane size hahaha. I got the enchiladas which were solid, nothing that really stood out. Then at the end we mentioned that it was both of our birthdays and they brought out 2 HUGE cupcakes!! I mean Ive never seen so much frosting in one place! Great view of the water, and they comp part of your parking so parking was just a few bucks when I left. We had a baby with us and they were super considering and a great kids' menu. Would come back here for a happy hour again!
