My husband and I attempted to get takeout after a long day. I had originally called at 9pm which I thought would be plenty of time since the place closes at 10pm (according to their restaurant website) . I was placed on hold for 18 minutes at which point the phone call disconnected. I attempted to call back but was unable to get through. My husband and I drove up to the restaurant to see if we could go in and place an order. I attempted 1 final call and after 11 times of calling I finally got ahold of someone at 9:27 pm to try to place an order. Unfortunately she told me the kitchen was closed even though the restaurant was still open. I explained what had happened and she insisted that there was nothing she could do since the kitchen apparently was closed at 9:27pm. The person who previously put me on hold didn't explain what time the kitchen closed and I wouldn't have attempted to get into contact with them had they not been one of the only restaurants open. At 9:30pm tired and very hungry almost no places were open which is very unfortunate. We wouldn't have wasted our time had we known. Service was not good at all so I don't know if we will even give this another try since. read more

Picked this based of locality and Yelp rating... not sure why it's got 4 stars though? They got my wife's drink order and my entree order incorrect. The food was absolutely amazing! It's not your typical Mexican place, it's a little more casual and has a little twist on their dishes. It's a perfect portion of deliciousness I guess you could say! Felt satisfied after and not overly full so there was room for dessert ;) we started with the pulled chicken nachos, my boyfriend and dad got the wet burrito (YUM) and my mom and I got the fajitas (also YUM) The staff was also a delight. I think I'd give this restaurant a solid 3.5 stars...but, since I can't with Yelp, I'm choosing to round down. My husband ordered the enchiladas and a margarita and I got a taco salad and a glass of wine. Basically, our food was good, the service was good and the restaurant was clean/comfortable. However, I wasn't blown away by any aspect of our experience and it wasn't necessarily memorable. If you're looking for decent Mexican-Ish food at a decent price, this is the place to go. First we were welcomed by a super friendly hostess who was very honest that they were short staffed and the kitchen was behind because of lack of employment due to Covid. We patiently waited for a table (15mins) and we're seated with an amazingly friendly waitress. She was helpful with suggestions, and although very busy.. made sure everything was perfect for us. Let me begin by saying our server was the kindest and very attentive. The food was good for me, but my very picky daughter did not like her ground beef taco. It seemed like maybe it wasn't made fresh and then she had issues with the peppers and onions in the beef blend. I had the chicken fajitas which I thought were tasty, but the sides of beans and rice were just okay. Also, coming from LA I am used to traditional Mexican fajitas served in a hot skillet. We had to wait a little bit to get seated but it was not bad, however, to get our food took awhile. The short version of this is "could've been better". Recommended to us by a local, we decided to give it a try. Not sure where to begin. We got there, but our name on the list and they mentioned we could sit outside...so outside to the deck area we went, and eventually found "outside" did not include any bar service. So, back inside to the bar we went, and ordered a couple of drinks. Now, the bar is pretty straight forward reminding me say a bar from the 50's; that is no "frills" - no draft beer and overall limited beer selection, and your basic cocktails. Once seated, overall while friendly the service was exceptionally slow...from taking our order, drinks, food, etc. We got the fried clams and a quesadilla. The fried clams (which are not on their menu as of JUN 2021) and they were "meh" at best. A nice sized portion, but over fried. The quesadilla again, rather "meh"; that is but nothing memorable especially given the 25 min wait for a table and the exceptionally slow service overall. There is our somewhat poor experience, compared to a LOT of the 4 and 5 star reviews. We were there just before the start of the 2021 season, businesses reopening after a year of shutdown/partial service, and everyone looking for help. Would we go back? If you have made it this far, you'll be surprised when I say "yes". We eat "local" as much as we can, and like places off the beaten tourist path...we REALLY wanted to like Chilli Peppers, and if we don't give it another try when we return in SEP we likely will at some point. read more

Absolutely delicious! We came here for an early Father's Day celebration. Fun, casual vibe that felt very family friendly. Food was incredible! We got coconut shrimp, crab bisque, mussels, nachos and a quesadilla. Everyone was happy! They also have incredible beef jerky! A fav in OBX. read more

Preparation time was about 30 mins for a plate of Smoked wings and also Smoked wings smelled and tasted burnt and smoke was intense which I did not like at all. We were in Kitty Hawk for just one night, and on a Monday before the season really starts, many places aren't open yet, so we were glad that Chili Peppers was an option. We were in the mood for something fresh and not too heavy, and the chicken taco salad and fish baja tacos were just right. The greens were fresh, the salsa was delicious and the meat and fish were seasoned perfectly. Our waitress was very nice, and checked in with us often. I've been here twice, first time was mediocre, second time was definitely my worst restaurant experience ever. The food was very mid. Came tonight with my boyfriend and afterward we both needed to pull over from getting painfully sick. I've had food poisoning before and I know for sure that's what it was. I politely called the restaurant and let them know that my boyfriend and I had gotten food poisoning an hour after eating there. The nice gentleman on the phone told me "food poisoning can't happen in an hour. Look back to what you ate 13 hours ago". I'm a med student very aware of how food poisoning works. A simple google search would've told him serious symptoms can start in 30 minutes. I wasn't asking for a refund or anything, just letting them know for their future customers. For some reason, just about everything in the Outer Banks closes at (or before) 9:00pm. Since, Chilli Peppers is open till 2:00am, this is one of the few places to eat after the sun goes down. The wife and I were able to get a date night without the kids and were just happy to find a place to eat, but we could not be more glad we waited so late to eat. This is by far the best place we've eaten in OBX (so far). The service is UNBELIEVABLY fast. We found ourself wishing it had taken longer so our date didn't end so fast. We came in on St Patrick's day for a late dinner as we had just gotten to town. We had seen on their Facebook page that they had an Irish tapas on the menu for the night! Got there about 8:50 and say at the bar. when we ordered drinks, they didn't have any green beer but the bartender made some for us:). Between the 4 of us we got just about every tapas item on the menu and they were all amazing!!! During the offseason they have tapas on Thursday nights and focus on a different country each week. This place was okay. I started with the calamari. It was fantastic!! The only reason I didn't rate only 1 star, frankly. My son got the ground beef soft tacos and I got the nachos and we shared them. The ground beef seasoning was awful. He ate 1/2 of a taco and I ate the other half. We left 2 whole tacos unbeaten. The nachos were sparsely covered in toppings-we hardly touched them.
