The BBQ meat items are done on open flat grills including the chicken which tastes like it was rotisserie until you see them splayed out butterfly style on grates in the window. For $40, you get a whole chicken, a rack of ribs & 4 sides. There weren't a whole lot of choices for sides, but they were OK. Corn, mashed potatoes, Spanish rice, Mac & cheese and yams rounded it out. The place is nothing to write home about, tucked into a dark corner of a Northern Blvd strip. There is parking shared with the other stores for about 10 cars, but good luck getting one. There is a police station across the street and they hog up all the street spots. My husband and I had the pleasure to try this place out for lunch today. I had called in and requested my order for take out. When I arrived, the food was ready as promised. I ordered 2 lunch specials, the 1/2 chicken with corn and yams, chicken cutlet with 2 sides of mac and cheese and a 1/4 rack of ribs. The lunch specials also comes with a beverage (bottled water or can of soda). The prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. And the staffs were all very nice, friendly and helpful. The interior wasn't very attractive but who cares, the food was fresh and delicious. If it bothers you, take it to go. The chicken and ribs were perfectly grilled and was amazingly moist, tender, and flavorful. Words and pictures don't do it justice, you need to try it out for yourself. Don't forget the green sauce! (they gave me 9 of them :D). The meats were even better drenched in the sauce. They also added 2 free pieces of hot wings along with the chicken cutlet meal. My husband really liked the sandwich and the mac and cheese. The sides, corn and yams were nothing special. They were ok. But the charred pita bread did compliment the chicken. Came here with friends for a second lunch...lol so this is what happened. This place gets such a large volume of orders that it takes them about 30 mins to prepare your order. So instead of just sitting around and waiting for our food, my group of four, all being foodies, decided to place our orders first and go elsewhere for food while they prepared our food. After our first lunch, we came back and our orders were all waiting for us at the counter! #smart This place basically only has two main choices: chicken and ribs. They have various combinations of chicken+ribs at different prices. What I discovered is that some combos are more worth it than others so definitely do the math before placing your order! For example, the 1/4 chicken + 1/4 ribs and two sides combo may seem appealing but it is actually more cost efficient to get 1/2 chicken and two sides and 1/2 ribs and two sides and share it amongst the group. As for the food itself, I had really low expectations for the chicken but it ended up being really tasty! I thought it was going to be really dry, as most rotisserie chickens are, but this one ended up being so juicy! The spices were on point also. Mix in some green sauce and you've got yourself one pretty amazing chicken :) This place may be called Chicken Lovers and while the chicken was good, the ribs were even more amazing! With all the positive reviews on Yelp, Chicken Lovers caught my attention. The restaurant is popular for its charcoal grilled chicken and ribs. However, it's honestly not worth the hype, so don't be fooled by all these reviews. Their clientele enjoy the prices rather than the overrated food. The chicken tasted average, the skin was flavorful but the meat was bland. The sides were a huge disappointment. The mac n cheese tasted like it came from a school cafeteria and the corn tasted like it came directly from a can. It's nothing compared to authentic Colombian/Peruvian chicken. If you care about basic hygiene, you'll find the restaurant to be extremely unsanitary. The place has garbage everywhere and appears to never have been cleaned since they opened their doors. The cashier handles some of the food preparation and the money without ever washing their hands. You could call this place a hole in the wall, but the food has to be somewhat decent. Now if you still decide to order from Chicken Lovers after reading my review, I HIGHLY recommend that you place your order in advance. Based on my recent experience, the restaurant is disorganized and cannot handle multiple orders at once. To give you rough estimate, I waited approximately 45 minutes for my order even though there were only a few other people waiting inside the restaurant. Would I recommend Chicken Lovers to others? For a dinner date with a friend, we decided to hit up Chicken Lovers bc of the great reviews on Yelp. and yes, we are so glad we came! We ordered the 1/2 chicken + 1/2 ribs w/ 2 sides for $25 (including tax). Comes with flatbread. The young lady at the counter said it would be enough for two people, but what we ordered would have four people. The sides that the combo meal comes with comes in rather large styrofoam containers. But [*PRO TIP] you can ask for four smaller containers and then you can get 4 different sides instead of just two! That's what we did. Out of the four sides, we both agreed that the dill roasted potatoes were the best, next was the cucumber salad. The corn was alright, a bit dehydrated and hard; the mac and cheese was meh. But the ribs and chicken? To die for. So deliciously moist and flavorful, especially when you dip each sliver of meat into the green and bbq sauces. Pros: 1. Ridiculous quantity of food for the $$ (If uncertain how much will fill you up, size down). 2. You get to see the rows of ribs and chicken being grilled in front of your face, albeit behind a glass wall, but the sight is still wonderful. Cons: 1. Chicken Lovers is a hole in the wall. Everything's served in styrofoam containers and cheap plastic, but if you can get past that and appreciate the food then you're guaranteed to love it. 2. Parking is hell. There is a small parking lot in front, but when I arrived at 5pm it was jam-packed, as were all the streets in the residential area behind the restaurant. The chicken was smoky yet juice squired in every bite (even the chicken breast!!!) The ribs were wrapped in spices and had a nice chew. The mac&cheese was soft,creamy and complimented all the smokiness extremely well. In the past, I'd always go for their 1/2 chicken lunch special for 12 bucks, but the deal isn't available anymore during these Covid times. Their roasted chicken is smothered in herbs and grilled to perfection. The meat is rarely overcooked and is always juicy. And it comes with this delicious mystery green sauce that's creamy and slightly spicy, which goes perfectly on the chicken and pita. Their ribs are always fall-off-the-bone tender and generously slathered in bbq sauce. It's always a good choice for me when I want to have a little more than just chicken. Their sides aren't anything special, but they come in large portions and compliment the meat really well. I personally like their roasted red potatos and buttered corn. By far my favorite chicken spot!! The green sauce is to die for, so delicious I always asks for extra. Their lunch special is a great deal and is enough food for at least two lunches. The rice and corn is my go to and pair excellently with the green sauce. Their mac and cheese is also pretty good. Each lunch special comes with a free drink as well. On a hectic day after all errands with the kids in bayside, we decided to give chicken lovers a try, yelp approved :) so it was go for us . We order take out , at first it looks a little outdated but we still gave it a try. The food was good it even made me come back. I decided to pick up dinner early and came early, the place wasn't even open and there where people already waiting for it. I order and waited 15 minutes I understand because if just open. For my surprise when waiting for my food I looked around the place and it stared looking duty and really disorganize, the owners look carefree and the employees look immature by the way they where acting and you can see they didn't have any experience in dealing with food customer service. The cashier had headphones on the whole time taking my order chatting away on the phone :/ Basically they look lost. I was a surprise the chicken was good. One customer made a comment about one of the employees looking drunk and by coincidence others coworkers where asking him , are you drunk dude? OMG ....... I know this place is called Chicken Lovers but after reading all the reviews about how good the ribs were I had to try them. I decided the best option was to get the chicken and Rib combo with four sides. Since it was three of us I thought that would be plenty and boy was I wrong it was way too much. The rib and chicken combo could feed about 6 people. Okay now lets get to the food, the chicken was very good and I loved the cilandro spicy green sauce that they give you. However what won my attention were the ribs, they were very tender, juicy and fell off the bone. For the sides we got mac & cheese, broccoli, mash potatoes and salad. I received an email immediately saying my order will be ready in approximately 30-45 minutes. Parking is a little tough during Friday night because they share the lot with Subway so I just waited until someone left. After 45 minutes I thought my order would be ready. I saw an order from eat24 on the counter, but it was not mine and the boy told me to just have a seat. I did not know I had to wait another 30 minutes! My boyfriend and I have been ordering from chicken lovers at least once every few months for over a decade. However, after our last visit, I felt the need to post a review in the hopes that the owner would see it. We always order a full rack of ribs with two sides: rice and mac&cheese. Naturally, we understand that the price would go up due to inflation. However, the last several times we ordered, we only received 2 green sauces for a whole rack of ribs. Upon asking for 1-2 more sauces, we were charged. I understand that for some, 2 sauces may be enough, but if a customer asks for an additional sauce for a whole rack of ribs, I find it ridiculous to be charging them. Half a rack, 2 sauces? Fine. But a whole rack, and only 2 sauces? I find that to be a little ridiculous. Just to be clear, I didn't complain when I had to wait 2-3 hours once for an order, just to show up and be told that they didn't have the side I had ordered previously on the phone. I didn't complain when My glorious pita bread was forgotten. I didn't even complain when there was a mixup cause one of sides were wrong. But 2 sauces for an entire rack of ribs?! My family loves this place. The chicken is pretty tender, not too dry, and has good smoky flavor. Also for some reason their steamed broccoli tastes better than regular steamed broccoli. I reccomend getting the combo of whole chicken + sides, because it brings the price of the sides down to $2.50 each as opposed to $4 when purchased separately. The mac and cheese side is a little dry but when dipped in their green sauce, its a game changer. Ask for extra green sauce!!! (IMO) Rack of Ribs: I would honestly pass on this. There was a good amount of meat on it but it was fairly chewy. The sauce on it was a little overwhelming and this was I believe $20? Which is significantly pricier than the chicken but I don't think it was worth it. Mashed potatoes: Decent, had a nice buttery taste to it. Extremely smooth, I assume it was instant mashed potatoes but it meshed well with the food we ordered. Mac n cheese: A nice surprise. The noodles had a nice texture, wasn't over cooked and the amount of cheese was nice. I typically hate Mac n cheese that is sold in masses because I believe the quality goes down however this place got it right. Buttered corn: Can't go wrong with butter.. and corn. Really good side, has the sweetness from the corn and the savory fatty goodness from the butter. Rice: A little oily, had some bay leaves in it still. Was fine. Also complimented our dish. TLDR?
