Great choice in my first trip to Paris. Heard about this place online. When I asked if they speak English, they said no, and I knew I was at the right place (but they knew enough ha) and google translate was great. Food was super good, beef bourgignon was fantastic, loved the chavignol cheese salad, and pretty much everything there ha. Great choice, super good

After watching dozens of "The Frenchies" YouTube video reviews prior to our France trip, I selected Chez René, a classic bistro in the Latin Quarter, for our first dinner in Paris. Me, my wife and daughter toasted our first night in Paris with kir royales, which went very well with my delicious appetizer of leeks in vinaigrette sauce. All three of us ordered the boeuf Bourguignon, and it was as classic and warming as we'd hoped. Our wonderful dinner also included bread with a cream sauce with onions, garlic and chives; profiteroles for my wife; and an Île flottante merengue dessert for my daughter. Service was excellent and friendly; we had no issues even though our waiter spoke almost no English. He brought me the perfect glass of red when I asked for wine that went with the beef. Perfect place for the quintessential Parisian bistro experience.

Chez René was the highlight of our 10 day Paris vacation in regards to a culinary experience. Whether it was the Cod, Beef Bourguignion, bread and garlic dip, or the Tomato and Goat Cheese to after dinner shots and espresso, the food was an 11 out of 10. Don't skip dessert The service was premier. Friendly, funny, helpful, and always one step ahead of our needs. The atmosphere of the restaurant was one of relaxed excitement. It never felt rushed but it had an energy that was on a different level. If you are in Paris, go out of your way to visit Chez René for dinner. You will thank me.

My fiancé and I went to Chez René per the recommendation of a foodie YouTube video. Chez René was bigger than the usual French restaurant, so it looked like we would've been fine with a walk-in. I made a reservation anyway just to be safe. Service was the best I've experienced at a sit-down restaurant. Our server was so efficient, and he was very attentive. The food was great. As traditional French food as it gets. For starters, we got the eggs mayonnaise and salad museau. Eggs with mayonnaise have quickly become my favorite starter on my trip. I should've googled what museau was before I had it. I realized that it was an entire dish of chopped pig snout. I didn't try it, but I'm told by my fiancé that the vinaigrette was great but with an acquired texture. I got the onglet boeuf, and my fiancé got the beef bourguignon. Both beef dishes were excellent. Mine was a steak with an onion sauce that was so flavorful. The beef bourguignon was tender and the wine flavor wasn't as strong as I tasted at other restaurants.

Food was as great as my first visit 20 years ago. Go here for traditional Parisian food, no more, no less. However, one of the waiters was impatient and rude in our recent visit. I will give 5 star for food and 2 for service.

We went to this restaurant because it was recommended by a YouTuber and they were right! The food was so delicious and the service was phenomenal! The place was small as most of them are in Paris, but looks very classic too. The places I have visited along the touristy spots are no where to compare to this place the food here is the real French food. This place is a must see if you are in Paris. The only thing I dislike is the menu only comes in French however the servers are kind enough to assist. I will certainly come back to try all the other dishes in the menu that are recommended by Chez Rene. Merci beaucoup!

    Volaille des Landes (chicken)

My friend and I had dinner here a couple of weeks ago (weren't able to get a table outside). We ordered the tartare de tomates au chevre frais to start. My friend loved it. I thought it was justy okay (not a fan of the chevre to tomato ratio - too much chevre for the amount of tomatoes). For the main course, she had the Supreme de volaille de Landes (chicken) with fries. She loved the chicken. I tasted the fries, and they were good. I had the Boeuf Bourgignon. The meat was very tender and the potatoes were good (slightly bland), but I would have loved more carrots. Service was a bit standoffish but otherwise good.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

Didn't blow me away, but was solid with the creaminess of the sliced potatoes and emmental cheese combined together with mixed vegetables. The cheese was very strong though, so anything else was unfortunately pretty much overpowered by it. Same comment as the above, except the Landais had egg and goat cheese also mixed in with almost the same ingredients as the Fermier. When I arrived, there was a rustic table in the entry room where I was seated. I ordered an entrée of mini mushroom raviolis in truffle sauce, a plat of scallops over orzo which had chorizo chunks and a dessert of frozen Grand Marnier soufflé. The portions were generous. I enjoyed the mini mushroom raviolis and delicious Grand Marnier soufflé. The plat was somewhat odd because the chorizo chunks were really strong flavored which overpowered the scallops. I ate one chorizo chunk and pushed the rest aside. The scallops were cooked perfectly but not seasoned. The service was gruff/quite brief with dishes dropped by assistants. My biggest complaint was the stressful ambiance during the meal. It was freezing outside. The door constantly opened and new patrons came in hovering over diners in my room. Luckily I was not closer to the door and didn't have anyone over me. For ~170 Euros, the food was good but the experience was not.
