Our first night in Paris, at the 7th... and wandered here. Saw some decent reviews and came for dinner. Chez Germaine is tiny... like seats about 20 ppl max! But at the expense of customers being on top of each other. It was super - tight. We got this weird table that hits against other people in a very uncomfortable way. Is this the Paris way? Yes... but it doesn't have to be. There are plenty of other bistros that don't squeeze every inch of space for profit. Service was fine, slow, but fine. Only 1 person working the space - wait, take order, gives you your food and check. Told my sister - "make sure you click non-merci when they ask for tip on that machine"... it's a ridiculous sh*t they picked up from American culture... ick. Food was ok. Escargot was ok, duck confit was bad... super dry, and wasn't tasty at all. The steak was better... would give them a solid 3/5. Wouldn't come here unless you're near by and needed food. Saw promising reviews and for a first timer in Paris, it was a recommended dinner spot. We came here for dinner without a reservation and was placed at the worst seat inside. Technically I'm questioning whether or not that was even a legit table but maybe it's the Paris culture to eat so close to one another? (LOL) The whole place is pretty small and the tables are also small. So not great if you want to order plates to share because it won't fit on the table. The food was ok and a bit disappointing. The escargot was good or maybe the sauce was great on the bread? The duck confit was terrible. Dry to the point it tasted like eating jerky. The steak was good and cooked to the way we ordered it. There's just 1 server so service was slow but I was also told people like to take their time even if there are long lines out the door. read more

A member of my party mortally sinned by asking for a steak cooked Medium-well. Despite discussing and agreeing that Medium would be fine, the chef apparently got the "Medium-well" message. Upon arrival (long after our other main courses), the steak was the single worst looking piece of meat I've ever seen in a fine dining establishment. It was tough as shoe leather, stringy, flavorless, full of gristle and completely over-cooked. In no way did it resemble the glorious photos of steak frites posted (mostly by the owner) online. To compound the injury, there was no offer to modify the bill. So, Beware diners: Order your steak carefully. Better still, order the fish. It, at least, was edible. read more

This was our last dinner in Paris and it was amazing! It's a very tiny restaurant with one server catering to everyone, you get cozy dining experience here. The food was so delicious. It would be best to make a reservation to avoid any difficulties with trying to get a seat here. I highly recommend going and I'm sure anything on the menu will be amazing. We found Chez Germaine from a food vlog that we watched before coming to Paris. We stopped by the restaurant on a Monday night only to find that they wouldn't be able to seat us at all. We got the hint that reservations were necessary, so we booked one for the following day but at 12:30pm. I loved the art on the far wall with the parachutes and hot air balloons. Along this side were incandescent lights strung up with red yarn that looked like they popped out of the painting. So adorable. Overall service was amazing. Our server was incredibly nice and helpful. The food came out promptly. The quickest I experienced at a sit-down restaurant in Paris, and I didn't feel like they were trying to push us out. The food was out of this world. Our meal at Chez Germaine was hands down the best one we had in Paris. At the bottom of the menu, it stated that they don't own a freezer so you know the food was super fresh. We ordered foie gras, French onion soup, and escargot for our starters. Although the foie gras and French onion soup have much fantastic things to be said, I just got to shout out the escargot, which were huge! I had escargot elsewhere earlier during my trip, and now I feel gypped because they were half the size of the ones I got at Chez Germaine. The scallops dish was what I got for my entrée, and it was insanely good. It came with 4 scallops that had the roe intact. In America, the roe is usually taken off so I had the pleasure of trying this part and loved it. Tastes similar to other kinds of roe. I also enjoyed the purée that the scallops paid on. I was stuffed after finishing this dish. My fiancé ordered the duck confit for his entrée, which was delicious. The meat was so tender that it fell right off the bone. Came in for dinner without reservation at around 7:45pm. The server was friendly and able to give me a table. There was only 1 server, and he was able to manage to serve the entire restaurant. I salute him! This is a very cozy and authentic French restaurant. We ordered onion soup (onion is spelled in the French way on the English menu), 6 pieces of escargot, duck confit, and Argentinian steak. The onion soup has some sort of sour taste to it, and I do not like my food tasting sour. The escargot was delicious that it was flavorful and chewy. The duck confit is my favorite. The meat was tender. The Argentinian steak is tasteless. The reason I gave them 3 stars was because they forgot our entrees after our appetizers. Other diners who came in after us got their entrees, but not us. I have to remind the server that we are still waiting for our food. We waited 1.5 hours before our entrees were served. Our 2 years, we finally returned to Chez Germaine for some great sole meunière and it did not disappoint. This time all 3 of us in the family had the fish and thanks to Fred, at Chez Germaine, who took the time and effort in letting us know which day he will have the sole. We really appreciated that so we would not need to go all the way to the restaurant from La Defense in vain. Our meal was great as usual....a glass of bubblies and a pitcher of house red followed by 3 sole menunieres at 37 euros each. Instead of the baked potatoes which we found dry on our last visit, this time, 2 of us asked for fries and my husband asked for mashed potatoes. The fries were crunchy and hot which is how we liked it and the puree was also very good. All 3 of us polished off the sole with only the skeleton and not a single drop of fish remaining. As for dessert, 2 of us had the desert gourmandise at 12 euros each which consisted of a sampling of 3 different desserts and an espresso which was delicious. The mini creme brûlée was not the creamiest, but the rice pudding with little crunchy hazelnut pieces were a delight, but the warm chocolate lava cake with fresh whip cream was the hit. We made our reservations on line because it is a small establishment and to avoid disappointment, I suggest you have a reso. Service was efficient and warm by one server, Fred. He definitely knew what he was doing and we appreciated his proficiency and efficiency. We will definitely return to Chez Germaine on our next visit in Paris for more great cuisine. read more

Happened to see this place on the corner of my eye, so we walked in and was greeted by the owner. We were fortunate to get a table because following our seating, customers were turned away. For starters, we ordered escargot and foie gras. For mains, my husband had the scallops with mashed Jerusalem artichokes and I had the seafood bouillabaisse. For dessert, we ordered the gourmet Coffee. All were delicious and 100% recommend. Making a reservation is a must, at least 1 week in advance, as this place is packed everyday. I tried to make a reservation to come back another day, but the place was booked at least a week out. Great place! read more

What a cute place and they speak english so it is really helpful. Their plate du jour had a great selection. The waiter waited for us to make our selection and then choose a great wine to accompany our meal. He was so nice and friendly and for $16.50 Eur it was worth every penny. The rabbit was so good and full of favor. The polenta just hit spot for me it was crispy and the tomatoes stew was just what I needed. The desserts were good too. I had the best Steak Tartare of my life here. I am usually careful with raw meats but coming into that little restaurant (I think 5 tables) and chatting with the owners I was overwhelmed with confidence. Of course the wine was great and went well with the meat. The owners are husband and wife, she is cooking and he is serving and entertaining the guests. After a few minutes I felt like a part of a family there. We started to talk with other guests and it was just the best restaurant experience I ever had. read more

We checked out this restaurant as it was very close to where we stayed in Paris. It was a cute cozy restaurant, initially impressive, but we had the worst experience here. I must admit that I am spoiled by all the friendly Parisian restaurant servers who assist us with basic English translation...or at least try to inform us with main ingredient words (i.e beef, lamb) so that I know what my food choices are. The server had minimal knowledge of English, which made it very difficult to order foods. The tables were very small and spaces in between adjacent table/chairs were very tight. The server kept telling me to move my chair closer to the window so that the space is open for someone else to sit, when there was no one sitting next to our table. He gave us a paper menu which was stained and wrinkled with foods from previous customers. One thing that really disappointed, however, was that the "special menu of the day", was different from what was written on the board outside. I went in thinking I will order fish, but only chicken plate was offered. The server made no attempt to explain what other food items were listed in the menu. The chicken drumstick was just mediocre, similar to "El Pollo Loco"?? I came out feeling very disappointed and poorly served. read more

What a great find.! We stumbled into this great place while in Paris and I am so glad that we did. I was traveling with my two teenage kids and we all agree that this was an amazing experience. Not only was the food delicious, but the owner/waiter was so friendly, helpful and entertaining that it has become the highlight of our trip! Really friendly staff. The beef and mashed potatoes and the fish dishes were good solid meals with a home cooked feel. Not the best food I had in Paris but a good, cozy,relatively inexpensive meal with nice staff. 77 euros for the 2 of use with apps, main and desserts and a small carafe of wine, really not bad for paris. read more
