    Beef bourguignon

Excellent Beef Bourguignon. However, this was the first time I had it, so I didn't have anything to compare it to. It was delicious though...I ate it all. The rest of my party enjoyed their food as well. 5 Stars!

Wonderful Beef Bourguignon We searched for a restaurant we thought would be the best in French cooking without spending too much money and came up with three places. Without any reservations, this Chez Fernand was the closest to us, so we just showed up when they opened. I was surprised we were able to get a table. Now quite as highbrow as I expected, traditional French cooking but without the fancy feel. The servers were not all dressed up, there was no French music playing, and the scene was watching the servers scrambling around to take care of their customers. We were not well taken care of. I was disappointed they didn't offer onion soup and settled for a cool Tomato Soup. I was expecting something closer to gazpacho, this was not but it was ok. For my entrée I ordered their Beef Bourguignon and that was where they really shined. So good, fall apart meat, a rich gravy, it was outstanding. We skipped getting a dessert, the meal just took too long. Their menu is on chalkboards which they prop up by your table. I think that's cool, I've seen that technique before. For us, we waited so long before the chalkboard showed up we had already figured out what we wanted looking at the chalkboard on the wall, so this just delayed us ordering. They did not offer anything different for kids. Just being here as a tourist I don't know if children's menus are common or uncommon. They did gladly provide her a plate and she ate from our meals. I mentioned service, we were slow to get started, and very slow to pay, like we were an afterthought as they rushed to deal with all the other things they did. As for the start, I'll forgive that by assuming they were starting with customers that had reservations first. The restaurant is narrow. To make it look bigger they had opposing mirrors where you see yourself multiple times in the reflections. Along one side was a row of continuous tables. When they seated a party they pulled out a table so they could get in, then closed the gap again. I'm glad we had our own separate table.

One of the best French spots in Paris. Their specialty is their sauces and they are amazing. Bone Marrow, beef Borgnine were sensational but really everything on the menu was. Duck with mushroom sauce was my entry and it was delicious. Fun atmosphere but tight seating. Worth the visit though.

The food in this place was phenomenal and the service was top notch. The restaurant is a small but nicely laid out, the servers literally have to pull the table out so that the person can sit on the other side which sounds crazy but really adds to the experience. The beef bourguignon is a must try! The sauce has a very deep flavor and is absolutely delicious.

This is my favorite restaurant in Paris and I always come back here every time. I would recommend a reservation if you're coming on a weekend. I came on a weekday with no reservation when it opened at 7 PM so there was no wait. The food is traditional French cuisine. The restaurant is very narrow though so you're sitting really close to other guests. I'm from NYC so it's not a problem for me. The menu is only on large chalkboards but they have French and English. My friend and I ordered the bone marrow, the legendary beef bourguignon, the sea bass, and the creme brulee. The bone marrow bones are huge and so much buttery bone marrow to spread on bread or toast. The beef in the beef bourguignon was so tender. The wine gravy was so rich and flavorful. It's definitely legendary. The sea bass skin was crispy and the fish was perfectly cooked. The creme brulee was okay but it had more sugar than creme. I will definitely back when I'm in Paris!

We took a chance and called in for a reservation 3 hours prior. Luckily, they had a spot available for us. When we got there, we found the place to be quaint. It's a small restaurant, so seating is limited. The nice waitress took us to the only table by the sidewalk. It was pretty. She showed us a portable black board that had the du jour menu in both French and English. We ordered the following: Escargot - cooked in butter and pesto sauce. This delicate dish is a must try. Bone marrow - silky and spreadable delight on a piece of toast. Sprinkle it with a little bit of salt and it's an enjoyable taste to the mouth! The legendary Beef Bourguignon - delicious and tasty! The meat is so tender, you don't need a knife. Make sure you have those bread to scrape off the very last sauce on the dish! This is everyone's favorite! The last dish, and probably my favorite (and unfortunately forgotten the name! ‍) was grilled prawns with an unknown orange savory sauce, on top of some creamed black rice. This was a delight. The creamed black rice when mixed with the prawn sauce is so irresistibly delicious! I finished the whole serving! I highly recommend this! We also ordered the house red which paired well with the food. Over all, we had a fantastic meal and we will definitely come back to this place.

Chez Fernand is the quintessential Parisian bistro to visit in Paris. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you are greeted with the warmest welcome one can only find in the heart of Paris. The menu is a colorful array of Bistro Favorites from starter to dessert. The wine list is represents some of France's well known regions of wine. But more importantly, the service along with the food, is the perfect way to truly experience a French Bistro! Make a reservation as they tend to be busy during peak times every day. The legendary Beouf Bourguingnon is an absolute must order. The wine sauce is incredible. Full of flavor yet not heavy.

Hands down, best meal I had during my stay in Paris! We made reservations a couple hours in advance and when we arrived, my party of 6 was able to be sat but they only had room at the bar. It worked for us since the restaurant seemed to have very small tables. When our waitress realized we spoke English, she went to take the English board off the wall and set it on the ground for us to look over. Seriously, it was a very large and heavy looking board, i really appreciate her doing that especially when she could have told us to point our heads in the direction of the menu lol. For appetizer, we had to order the snails since we were in Paris and it was delicious! You'll forget that you're eating snails because it was cooked and seasoned so well! I ordered the Ribeye with mashed potatoes and it was really good. Highly recommend checking this spot out!

Duck and I think my Hubby order RibEye (don't remember but was delicious)

We went to this place while spending some short time in Paris. We did not have reservation but showed up around 7:30PM and got a table right away in the back (which by the way got crowded right after 8:30PM) Food was amazing I enjoy the service, the ambiance, the whole experience. Highly Recommend!

Excellent service. Beef bouginon was great but honestly my wife's perfectly cooked and seasoned ribeye was even better. The escargot was excellent and so flavorful i used the delicious complimentary bread to mop up the sauce. I had one of the best wines Ive ever had at dinner, so i bought a bottle to go as well.

Ribeye with bone marrow... Decadent and delicious!

Had the good fortune of running into some fellow Yanks at Bon Marché and they recommended this place highly. We were told to try the foie gras ravioli (yes, you read that correctly) and the bone marrow. They also make a freat beef bourguignon we were told. We made it there last night and were not disappointed... First impression of the restaurant are of a typical Parisian brassiere- cozy small tables with red gingham tablecloths. They you sit side-by-side and pull the table out for you to get in. The smell... marvelous! You know something good is going on in the kitchen. We ordered a Pessac-Léognan at around 55 euro for the bottle and it was delicious... very well worth it. For our starter we shared the foie fras raviolis, and did they ever live up to the hype. Rich and fatty in all the right ways. Excellent execution. For our entrees we had the risotto with scallops and prawns and the ribeye with bone marrow. They are very generous with the portions, and the seafood was no exception. The prawns and scalloolps were huge, and placed over a helathy portion of great tasting risotto. I would call the steak very well cooked and tasty, but it is the bone marrow that steals the show. Its a huge slice of what I can only imagine was the femur. I've never seen so much marrow out of one piece of bone as I did here. Absolutely amazing, and it was rich, yummy, greasy, ans so, so decadently tasty. Truly, this was a wonderful experience and I was not disappointed. Will definently be back!

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

It was a cute little spot with plenty of seating and a small bar right up front. The problem was that it's so cramped in there. They fully pack that place pretty tight in there. While they take walk-ins, they were so busy that had we not had a reservations we likely wouldn't have gotten a table in a reasonable timeframe. I think we waited about 15-20 minutes outside until our table was ready. As for service, while they weren't exactly rude, they for sure weren't exactly friendly either. This was also a spot that didn't cater too much to tourists by having English on the menu. I don't fault them for that though, it's their country. I would recommend having a translator app at the ready though with French downloaded. As for the food it was a bit of a letdown for me. We had a number of items to share with each other. Without having reliable signal in Paris, it was hard to use the translator app so I'll do my best with the foods. We ordered a ratatouille (don't think it was a traditional one though), a shrimp dish, white sauce pasta, escargot, duck breast and the chocolate mousse. The ratatouille was OK but was just like a roughly chopped cooked vegetable dish. The shrimp dish was fine as well but nothing standoutish. Our favorite dish was my friend's white sauce pasta; it was flavorful, rich and decadent but somehow not overpowering. The escargot, as expected was not good for me, but "When in Rome" (or Paris haha). It was just a weird chewy Thing that just tasted like oil and garlic with whatever herbs they used. I especially was off put by the little grains of sand or broken shell that was a part of each bite. The duck breast was a little bland if not for the sauce and it was also a tad tough as well. I will say the chocolate mousse was super rich and sweet; I couldn't eat that whole order by myself but it's nice to share for a little end of meal treat.
