The charcuterie platter was more than enough for two people escargot and partially is right on point and the beef marrow bone appetizer was wonderful. By far and away is the best bargain in all of Paris. Duck Cassolet, Veal Cutlet, Basque Chicken, wine and beer all for 65€! The duck in the cassoulet was rendered perfectly. The Veal was layered on potatoes with ham and cheese, so tender Rich and tender. Both of the Veal and chicken dishes were big enough to share. So we had leftovers. The place was packed and loud at 9 o'clock on a Wednesday night, but service was impeccable.
We ate here on a Friday night, 28/04/2023. We arrived at 8pm and the dining room was packed full. The dining room is a lively space that is open, almost cavernous, but filled smartly with fun and lively decor throughout. This is definitely a young, "hip" sort of restaurant. I will get my complaint out of the way and will end my review with the important stuff - the food info. If you don't want to hear my negativity, please scroll down. We showed up at the busiest time we could. Unfortunately, that's just how it worked out. The weird thing, though, was that one of the employees took the initiative to take down my number. He said that there would probably be a table open in about 15-20 mins (We were a two top) and that he would call us. This was the first time that any restaurant employee had offered to do this for us, and I thought it was a bit odd given the French "system," if you will, of dining out at a restaurant. But I figured that since this is a popular, trendy restaurant in an area that is pretty tourist-heavy maybe they have a slightly different system to accommodate a less-than-local crowd. We walked around the neighborhood and after about 20 minutes we were back at the restaurant without having heard from anyone. As we were standing there, though, two guests walked in and made contact with the same employee we left our number with, and they pointed to an empty table and he sat them. So, I then had to fight a bit to get their attention and had to really assert myself to get the other employee to finally seat us. Upon sitting down, the first employee who had taken our number down actually walked by and quickly acknowledged to us "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't have time to call, we are so busy." Which, that was true, they were running around and doing a good job of it, too. But why take my number down, then? It felt like I was being appeased a little bit. Like he didn't expect us to wait. Or maybe he was just really busy on a Friday night and overwhelmed. I'm not sure. So, that was a little weird. All things considered, though, this was an overall great dining experience. We started out having the snails in the Basque sauce. They were delicious. They serve the snails out of the shell and simmered in this delightfully tomato-y, pepper-ish sauce that is some sort of Basque or Basque-fusion creation, along with some bread for dipping. I'm a big texture guy so I was a little apprehensive to try the snails but these have me sold. Unfortunately they weren't served in a way that was very aesthetically pleasing, so there is no picture of them. The star of the show was my entree- the Basque chicken. It's a leg quarter piece (Thigh and drumstick) that was also simmered in the same Basque sauce as the snails, and it's served with a portion of white rice. This dish was much more aesthetically pleasing, so there's a picture included. This was so delicious. The chicken was fall-apart tender but the way they slow-simmer in kept the meat juicy. I loved how they served the dishes in cast iron cookware; everything came out PIPING hot and stayed that way for the duration of the meal. It was nice to have the last few bites warm, or even hot, versus the room temperature sort of feeling that often happens at the end of a meal. All-in-all, this was a great restaurant and a great meal. I would love to come back and go at an earlier time on a weeknight. The inside got a little loud with the Friday night crowd in full swing and they were out of their selection of white wines by the time we showed up. But the energy was good and lively and the red wine still went down fine. If I'm lucky enough to be back in Paris, I will be back at Chez Gladines. Thank you!
The service right off was very good. Dispite is not speaking any french the staff was very kind and accommodating. The ambiance was pleasant and cozy, big enough to not need a reservation. The food was amazing, the dishes are large and the prices are low for how much you get. We got wine, beer, and two entrees for 40€.
The food here is so delicious and flavorful. Chez Gladines was recommended by a local and I am so glad I went. We shared a full plate appetizer and it was the best way to start our meal with wine. I want more and more of their rillettes. Our entrees were the Cote de boeuf and Escalope de veau montagnarde. The beef was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, great when paired with crispy and delicious potatoes. I would agree with other reviews that the Escalope de veau can be salty but I think it should be expected because of the ingredients of this meal. I thought it was rich and fulfilling. Overall it was a great experience and I think this place offers a good choice for meals similar in the South of France.
Great staff, clean, and great atmosphere. The snails were some of the best I tasted in Paris. They are served sans the shells. The Duck confit was very good. But the Escalope Montagnarde (veal, ham and potato in a cream sauce) was way too salty! I had chapped lips after dinner. The veal was perfectly cooked but the cream sauce was like tasting Sea water. I'll be back, sans that cream sauce tho...
this was the first meal we had when we arrived to paris. i was craving something hot, and tomato-y, so i got the basque chicken - and it fulfilled my cravings! it was so hot, warmed my stomach, and the chicken and rice was so comforting. joanna got the complete salad and it was really good too, they had potato, egg cheese and greens. the green brûlée at the end really sealed the deal, perfectly caramelized at the top and so soft on the inside. the total price was 30€ which wasn't bad!
I'm so glad we discovered Chez Gladines Saint Germain! It's tough to choose between quatre or cinq stars, so, let's call it 4.5 and say oui to rounding up ... because I liked the Basque-style food while my wife loved it. We started with a carafe of the house red wine from the daily specials board. It was red. It was wine ... and that's about all I remember about it. So, let's say it was a good match for the food ... which was near tasty decadence. * Confit de Canard aux Cèpes - 16.50 € This is the way I like my duck confit ... tender and juicy, but crispy and flavorful. At Chez Gladines, the Duck Confit is prepared with Cep & Chanterelle, Oyster Mushrooms, and Lacteous Mushrooms plus Fried Potatoes. Escalope de Veau Montagnarde - 16.50 € This was on the richest and heaviest dishes I've eaten in Paris. The Veal Escalope with Fried Potatoes, thick Cream, Mushrooms, and Cantal Cheese should be enjoyed with wine and a friend. Cassolette Basque Escargots - 9.50 € One of the house specialties is Chez Gladines' Basque Snail (12) Casserole cooked in a thick tomato Basquaise Sauce. This is officially one of my wife's favorite ways to have snails and she loved them more than more classic Parsley, Garlic, & Butter French preparations. Chez Gladines on Boulevard Saint-Germain brings Parisians and tourists alike a French twist on Basque-style cuisine and we really enjoyed the food, service, vibe, and reasonable prices ... but mostly the food.

Came during the euro semifinals, where everyone was seated outside huddled by the tv. Our party of 6 enjoyed the peace inside. Service was friendly. Food was delicious. I enjoyed the chicken basque. I recommend it if you're looking for a hearty meal. I think we discovered a local gem! read more
My husband is basque(more Spanish Basque) so we had an idea of what to expect food wise. The food was hearty with rice, beans, and potato dishes. Priced as expected in a tourist area. We found the service quite friendly unlike what I was expecting after the reading of some of the Yelp review. Our server was super friendly even with my lack of the French language. I just showed him my Google translator to help when I ordered or needed an item. He did offer me a wine recommendation to accommodate my basque chicken meal that I did enjoy. My chicken was tender and fell off the bone. I would have liked a bit more meat in my dish. It came with a thigh and a small wing. For the price of 14 EUR, I would have like at least two thigh or a small chicken breast. Food was good not sure if it's something I would go back for. Desserts were a nice closer to the meal. Overall the vibe and service was a 4 star rating but food wise I would give it a 3. read more

Amazing food near Notre Dam. We ate the once on this trip and 3 times before in 2016. Still delicious food and great service. Very hearty meals s that you cannot leave hungry after. Good prices and excellent quality. Service is always friendly despite the place being constantly busy. read more

This duck confit was my favorite meal in Paris. Great service, funky fun ambiance and good service. I speak zero French have food allergies(soy and almonds) and the waitress was great. read more

I love this place I was recently in France and dined at this place twice the food is really good and the staff is very helpful. I had an omelette with some potatoes I'm not sure what the name of it was but it was really good. They do bring out bread but I was not familiar with they don't use a lot of butter with their bread but they will bring you a package of butter. I am hoping that I will be back to france . Everyone to try this restaurant if you're in France. read more

I've been waiting since my trip last September to review this most special little place. On the advice of a Parisian friend we went during the first week of our trip and so fell in love with the place, agreed to return for our last night in Paris as well. Plentiful portions, friendly (even though VERY busy) staff at very reasonable prices. The Assiette Mixte starter is massive and probably enough for four. Amazing salads. The Cassoulet Maison magnifigue! But the Escalope de Veau Montagnarde is without question the BEST thing I have ever eaten in my life. Just writing about this place and remembering the sight and sound of it makes my heart ache. Don't miss it. English menu available. read more
We came here for lunch while we were in Paris from another Yelper's suggestion. The place was packed even though it was close to 2:00 pm, which is always a good sign. When we entered, the staff told us to find a seat ourselves. You will share a table with strangers. It's pretty much inevitable due to space constraints. Most parties there were groups of two and the average table size is 4+ so there is that initial awkwardness of sharing a table with strangers. The duck breast was raved about in a lot of reviews so I got that medium rare. Other than the duck, the dish also came with a healthy helping of potatoes and a simple salad with mustard dressing. I found the duck to be quite dry and tough to eat- closer to a medium done or well done than medium rare on some pieces. Although the meat was a little disappointing, the potatoes were really out of this world. God! How did they make them so well? The salad was also very nicely dressed with mustard seeds which I quit enjoyed. It was a nice burst of sour flavor that complimented the dry duck. The place is very rustic and gives off that homey vibe especially with the hearty meals that are a little atypical of French cuisine (at least what I thought it was). If I were to go back, I would probably get the salads because they looked delicious and gigantic! Overall, 3.5 rounded up to a 4 for those gosh darn potatoes. read more
Amazing! We ate here our first night in Paris on the recommendation of our hotel. We split 2 meals - the Duck Breast and the Veal. Oh my gosh - they were both amazing. And both really different from each other. The duck breast was roasted/grilled and sliced, served with a lettuce salad and roasted thin potato slices with herbs. The Veal was a large slice served under prosciutto and cheese in an amazing mushroom gravy. Along side it were thin slices baked potato slices. The Duck Breast meal was the lighter meal while the Veal was very heavy. We saw many meal-sized salads come out and we may try those later this week. read more

My experience here was okay. It was a clean restaurant with quick service. There was a QR code on the menu for a translation which was extremely helpful. One thing I really didn't like was how they forced everyone in my party to order something even though we weren't hungry and wanted to share. This has never happened to me in any other restaurant. The food looked pretty good, but I was a little disappointed when I tried it. The steak was tender but not very flavorful. Escargot tasted normal. I also ordered duck breast and wasn't able to finish it. It had an extremely gamy taste, which I've never experienced with other duck I've tried. read more
This month I'm going to be in Paris a few times, and when I found out I was excited because Chez Gladines is my go-to spot for a nice sit down dinner that won't break the bank. My most recent visit was my third time here, and it never disappoints. Normally I like to sit outside, but it was a Saturday night (election night actually, alright Marcon!) and the only available seating was indoors. I got the veal special, which is possibly the most decadent entree you can eat for under €20. Veal, potatoes, ham, melted cheese and mushroom gravy all in a delicious, buttery, and cheesy pile in a cast iron skillet. It's pure insanity. Also, 750 ml of wine at a reasonable price and I got a chocolate lava cake with some coconut ice cream. They almost had to roll me out of the restaurant, but it was so insanely good. I can't recommend this enough! read more

Basque style food done right! I recommend the Escargot Basque Casserole Dish 9,50€, Veal Escalope 16,50€ and Ajualerro 14,50€. I do not have any criticism for any of those dishes, all were amazing. The ambiance is not what this place is about (at least the St Germaine location) but the food is stellar. Highly recommended. read more

The largest portions we had on our trip. The salad was a bit overwhelming but still delicious! Ask for less potatoes if you're trying to do less carbs to offset the amazing bread! read more

Out of my 7 days in Paris I have to say my favorite meals came from Chez Gladines. My friend and I heard about this place from our bike tour guide. We got there around 5:45pm on a Friday night. The place was pretty empty when we got there and we chose to sit outside. Once it hit 6pm the place was packed. We got there in time for happy hour so we got the meat plate and sangria happy hour deal. The portions were great and the sangria was the perfect sweetness. I ordered the duck breast cooked medium and I have to say it is now one of my favorite meats (Sorry Donald). My friend got the signature veal dish which was large in portion size and amazingly delicious. They do offer the menu in English you just have to take a picture of the barcode on the French menu and it gives you a link to the menu. Enjoy! read more
Was in the mood for a good home cooked meal, didn't need anything fancy just something that would be hardy and warm, so I went to my handy Yelp App to see what was around and I found Chez Gladines within walking distance from my hotel and after browsing the pictures of food, I knew this was the place I wanted to try. Took the short walk there and was seated pretty quickly, chose to sit inside opposed to outside because this Phoenix girl had a little bit of a chill and needed to warm up. The place is cutely decorated and fun to take in with the eyes, loved it. Service was friendly and great, they even gave me an English menu. After looking at the menu, I asked what the special of the day was, and it was Poulet Basquaise , and I knew from my basic French that it was chicken and I like chicken now I needed to asked what it all was. Found out its braised chicken that has been simmered in tomatoes with onions & peppers and comes with either rice or potatoes, I knew right away this was the meal for me, I ordered it with rice The chicken was a leg and a thigh and it was fall of the bone tender and the tomato onion pepper sauce was amazing, the rice went perfectly well with this dish and your meal comes with bread, I love me some bread!!! This dish was just what I was craving, maybe even something I will recreate here at home. So very good! Glad to happen to find it on my Yelp App and given it a try! It's not that Paris doesn't have anything it's just it has everything, and that Yelp app came in handy so many times. This was another great find! read more
A lovely find. Cuisine from Southwest France (Basque). The snails in basque sauce were such a delight. Mon Dieu. The escapole (veal cutlet) was absolutely fantastic as was the beef. This is a place without much pretension but with a lot of hearts. A very young clientele perhaps because of the huge value you get here for your Euro. Staff is vibrant and attentive. Even though our order was misplaced it was still a great place to eat at. read more
This place is excellent! Great food in huge portions, and relatively cheap. It is a popular spot, so you might have to wait for a table, but the turnover is high so you probably won't wait forever. We had poulet basque and casserole du jour, both courses were delicious. The staff was friendly, even though they worked under some serious preassure. This is a restaurant for relaxed foodloving (gourmand) people. (If you're the kind of person that prefers white table cloths and white collar staff this is NOT the place for you) read more
