Was walking around Rue Cler and looking for a place for dinner. There are so many spots in that street so it's hard to pick the "right" one. Happy we stumbled upon Cafe du Marche as the food and service were both great! Our waitress was so kind and helpful as we didn't speak French. We tried the escargot, burger and fries and duck with mushrooms and potatoes, all were very good! After seeing the Eiffel Tower we were starving. A friend suggested we go to Rue De Cler which was supposed to be a pedestrian friendly market area with numerous cafes to choose from. We settled on Cafe Du Marche for no major reasons other than we had a group of 10, wanted shade, and a diverse enough menu to satisfy everyone. My daughter had steak and frites. She was still talking about the steak the next day it was so good. My other daughter ordered fish and chips. Considering we were headed to London in a few days I found that a particular choice. Maybe she was setting up a taste test? Future London review coming up. She did like it and her friend, ironically born in London and double ironically ordered the same, said it was good though not up to English pub standards still. I ordered salmon tartare. Apparently this is essentially unseasoned French poke. Seriously it was diced up salmon which while fresh and mixed with diced chives just lacked any punch. Too set in my poke, sashimi, and ceviche ways I guess. My wife hit a home run with her plate and didn't even know what it really was. The menu said filet espada. At first everyone figured it was steak as in cow. The waiter then kept saying it was a white fish. Alright, my wife said why not. As soon as it came out I looked at it and commented how it looks a lot like swordfish. Major DUH here as my friend face palmed and remembers espada is Spanish for swords. Lost in translation. The swordfish and whatever magic sauce was on it was, oh how do you say....MAGNIFIQUE! I ordered a beer and asked for a 1664 but got something that tasted like Bud. Sure enough on the check I got charged for Bud. Lost in translation again. Not great but not bad. 3 1/2 stars. read more

I came here with my family for lunch before visiting the Eiffel Tower (which is only a 15-minute walk from this restaurant!). It seemed like a reasonably popular place and the food is reasonably priced (although the menu prices have changed from the photos you see on this Yelp page right now!). The service is excellent (our servers were super kind, prompt, and--helpful for visitors from the US--spoke English). The atmosphere is spacious and has both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a great place for groups! I ordered the duck confit, which came with a side of veggies and potatoes. The duck was delicious and super rich. The meat was very tender and the skin very crispy; I'd recommend ordering this dish here! My sister ordered a mini penne pasta dish that was on the restaurant's daily special that day. It came with a large dollop of a cheese (that I forgot the name of) and it was absolutely delicious. My dad ordered the fish and chips dish, which was very crispy and the portion was generous. Further, the table gets a basket of sliced baguette. :) Overall I enjoyed my experience here. Glad I gave this place a try! read more

Clustered with locals and tourists, this place is hopping. Lunch service is easygoing with excellent service. Dinner service, however, is hit or miss when the patio is packed. Despite the hecticness, the waiters get it done. Waiters don't wait on you, you wait on them - but that's how it is! I ate here several times out of convenience and good old reliability. Out of the many times I dined here, I only had one "off" experience where my escargots were unevenly cooked in temperature; however, all other aspects of my meals were always great. This restaurant was very busy and short staffed.... We were very understanding as we know that is the post COVID world.... However, the waitress didn't write down our order and messed it up twice and tried to tell my husband that she brought what he ordered taking advantage of the language barrier even though she spoke English.... His correct was then brought and then she asked me what I had ordered.... I then had the wait another 20 minutes for my salad and my husband had long finished his burger.... Wonderful cafe with very reasonable prices (about 5 euros per person less then the Cafe Central just across the street). We ate there twice. Today my Cobb salad was amazing, but different than the American version. Had thinly sliced rounds of grilled ham and turkey, small tomatoes and a quartered hard boiled egg surrounding coleslaw and avocado - all on top of crisp lettuce. Lovely presentation and very tasty. So far, I've been here three times (with friends, so I've tried their foods, too) and I've had the duck confit, the tartare, the sea bass (with veggies), and the salmon skewers in balsamic / ginger sauce with rice. Meals are very simple; it's 10€ for lunch M-F, 10.5€ for dinner M-F, and 11 (or 11.5?)€ for meals on weekends. It's REALLY decently priced, very filling, and quite delicious. I've loved everything I've had here (with the exception of the tartare, but that's because I usually don't like raw beef). The duck comes with sautéed potatoes that are seasoned well on the outside and slightly soft on the inside. The duck itself has no sauce, but it's very flavorful nonetheless. The meat is tender and delicious. The balsamic ginger sauce for the salmon is definitely pretty special and the salmon skewers are great :) And I LOVE the sea bass with the vegetables; I don't know how they prepare them, exactly, but I love the way the vegetables taste. It comes in a tarragon sauce and it's perfect with the bread. I also had a fish with rice & veggies (plat du jour) today, though I completely forgot what type of fish that was ... it was pretty good, but I think I prefer the duck and the sea bass. The rice and vegetables looked like ... Chinese fried rice to me (though it's obviously not). I was a little weirded out. It was a pleasant experience, as always, and left my wallet feeling pretty good. :) We also had some Pierre Hermé macarons and the waitress was really accommodating with getting us a knife, haha. Overall, the meal was good, just nothing special. I started with the cappuccino and it was very mediocre. The Espresso didn't taste super high quality, but it was still fine. The open-faced croque madame was good. The cheese was deliciously melted and the ham was good, but the bread could have been better. It wasn't toasted at all. The crepe was good. We were walking(happily) along rue Cler in the rain, when a charming waitress named Sonya pitched the Oysters(Huitres-pronounced Wheat-(soft)res) to us and we sat down. I ordered six of the second-best smaller Oysters, and she brought me eight. They were fresh and perfect on a bed of seaweed and served with mignonette sauce(red wine vinegar and shallots) and bread and butter. My spouse had butternut squash soup, which had a perfect balance of cream and spice(including a hint of cinnamon). She had a Cobb salad, I had a Caesar; both were generous and tasty. Supposedly, Le Café du Marché was deliberately priced reasonably so that locals could come every night for dinner. Whatever the reason, this place serves well-executed food at the some of the lowest prices I have seen, in the US or Europe. All the plats are generally €10, salads are €9, plats du jour may vary in price but will be around €10-12. And that's including tax and tip! (I love Europe.) I would recommend checking out: _Confit de Canard. This is a no-brainer; at least one person in your party should order this. A generous leg of duck, cooked in its own fat, with fork-tender meat and crispy fatty skin. The duck is seasoned with minced garlic and herbs, which also covers the fried potato accompaniment. By far the best duck I had in Paris. _Salades. I didn't have one, but if you look around many people order them. They aren't your typical salads which can be an afterthought. Here, they have delicious fresh toppings like fresh grilled fish, jambon, foie gras, and beef carpaccio. _Plats du Jour. Don't forget to look here and ask the waitress for recommendations, they tend to be very good. I ordered roasted lamb with egg noodles, which turned out to be juicy and flavorful. _Dessert. I had a pear tart in a dark chocolate sauce, and it was decadent without being overly rich. The pears were melt-in-your-mouth soft, which was perfectly complimented by the sauce. This is a great place to get some quick breakfast or just hang out and people watch. Its corner location offers a lot of views especially at this very busy and tight corner street. All the tables are like other French cafes as they are small and designed for just 2 people. As you walk in, they greet you and and you choose where to sit. They're English friendly and are willing to help. On my visit, they were extremely busy as the servers were limited or if that was just how it is in Paris, no worries, I'm here to soak the ambiance. I got a croissant and their ham and cheese omelet, though I should have gotten the server's recommendation of croissant, omelet, juice, and hot drink for only 10€, but I couldn't really understand her, oh well, my fault. Anyway, the croissant was nice, flaky and buttery and the omelet tasted fresh and filling. Came with a salad too. Ambiance was great, they have both indoor or outdoor seating. Even at 0 degree celsius, people were eating outside, and it was their choice, since there were still plenty of indoor seating still. I guess they needed their ability to smoke. Also, the outside offers a view of the workers shelling out oysters. Inside the cafe itself by the bar, many patrons just stand there and drink their expressos. I found it funny that everywhere we stayed on this trip (Airbnbs) had Rick Steve's travel guides. I get it, the dude's been around for a while, but still... I was flipping through his book after we ate here, and it is his first recommendation. I found that hilarious. After we found Rue Cler (suggested to us by our dentist) we were pretty hungry having walked all day, and my husband needed to use a bathroom. We stumbled upon the packed Cafe du Marche and decided to have a bite... Unfortunately. He enjoyed his beef tartar (though to be honest it was nothing to write home about) and we both enjoyed his fried potatoes... However, I ordered the 'tandoori' chicken with beets and 'caesar salad' as I saw it on someone else's table and thought it would be either quite good, or disappointing. It was far more disappointing than I'd anticipated. The chicken was covered with boring spices that were gritty and honestly, just not good. The salad had nothing that resembled 'caesar' dressing.. the couscous that came along side was alright, and the beets were fine until I discovered a dried up dead bug in them. I wouldn't recommend this place, not even for people watching. The waitresses were very busy, and while they definitely tried to be efficient, they didn't seem very happy. I am surprised at the low reviews at Le Cafe du Marche. This was my favorite meal in France! What to Order Here (Dinner Prices): Duck Confit (10 Euro) Grilled Lamb (10 Euro) Pear Dessert (about 5 Euro) What to Skip: Beef (10 Euro) This might be the cause for disappointment in so many reviews. The duck confit falls off the bone and is wonderfully done. This is the one dish that I tried the most in Paris, and it is cooked extremely well here. It comes with the typical side of fried potatoes and I loved the French tradition of using quality mustard for flavoring the potatoes as well as the duck. Not to be missed! The lamb was as flavorful and tender. My travel companion CS noticed that in Europe meat tends to be overcooked more so than the US but this was not the case here for the lamb, although it was unfortunately the case for the beef. The pear dessert was even divine and not overbearingly sweet like typical french dessert. Great touch to finish a meal. Oh Cafe du Marche, how you make me miss Paris ! read more

You can get the marche deluxe 11 euros for a coffee and juice plus a croissant and omelette with ham or cheese. Oueuf au plat which is fried eggs were 5 euros. Thought I would only get two eggs but it was three fried eggs with a lightly dressed side of green lettuce. And if course you get a basket of baguette with your meal. So I followed and ate it with my duck which was delicious btw.. the crispy skin was SO good.. it came with a side of potatoes which was a little on the burnt side. I still ate it but I think they could've been in the fryer a bit too long. But the duck itself though, that was really good! She actually smiled too which is odd for the douchy French waiters that are commonplace. All our entrees were very reasonable priced around 11 euro each.
