Unlike in the States, these escargot (as most in Paris) were served in their ACTUAL snail shells and they were addictively deeeelicious - like I can have 95 of them addictive! = Duck Breast - Duck was tender, but I thought it was just OK. The orange honey sauce made for a good dipper sauce, but without it, the duck was relatively ordinary. The aligot was quite cheesy and tasty though. = Chicken Supreme - Solid chicken and well cooked. String Beans were excellent! Like the Duck Breast, presentation was simple and elegant. However, for me personally, the chicken was OK. Nothing wow'd me on this dish. + Toasted Ham and Cheese Sandwich and Fried Egg, Salad - Good for what it was - a ham and cheese sammie with a fried egg. Definitely fancier than your stateside version - it wins that hands down. Bread was toasted and buttered very well, which to me, was the key to this sammie. Great place to sit outside and have a great meal. We came across this restaurant while we were trying to find a place for lunch. We passed by a few other cafes but this one caught our eye because of how it's right by the corner with a view of the gardens. We checked in with the server and we chose to sit outside. I ordered the duck breast - very tender and flavorful, sauce was divine and the aligot was soooo creamy! I also posted what my friends ordered. We had wine too with our food. They have a charger by the bar so while we are people watching and eating I had time to charge my phone. While we were seated outside it began to rain so we asked for a table inside so we can have desserts. The restaurant was full but they let us wait by the bar. After maybe 10 mins we were seated upstairs and I got hot chocolate and we shared crème brûlée, chocolate mouse and tarte tatin. We all love it - they weren't too sweet. Our first spot to eat and this is where we landed around the corner from our air b&b. This spot is a small, nice, cozy spot. You have your choice eating inside upstairs or outside on the patios. France is exactly what you think, drinking your coffee people watching and if you're with a group good conversation and a city kind of relaxation. We sat on the second floor, small tables, so don't expect space up there. So what did we get? Pretty simple, but the thought of a small lunch did not happen. We started off with a charcuterie board and it was huge. Coming from the US I was thinking probably half the amount. When that board came out I was super excited. I forgot to take a picture, but believe me if you're looking for something to snack on while just relaxing, this is what you should get. There was actually no negative side that I saw, and I felt out of all the meals that I had in Paris, this one was a definite memorable one. I also enjoyed my latte - it was not sweet and full of milk, which is a good thing unless you need your coffee drowning in sugar. As the clock struck noon, we decided that our appetites had subsided a bit, so we just ordered a couple servings of french onion soup. We felt like it was good but not amazing. We had high hopes, considering it was our first time eating french onion soup... in France :) The primary reason for the 3-star rating is that our bill ended up at 53 Euros. The atmosphere inside is great. There's seating outside for what looked like small parties (~2 people) to relax, grab a drink and some food. We chose to sit inside since it was a little cold. The inside has interesting and cozy design, with 2 levels, wooden furniture, and plush benches in an area. I ordered the beef tartare and it was very satisfying. Came with fries and salad for only 17 euros. I also shared the French onion soup (very shareable), it was ok and a little salty. Not very cheesy, which I personally enjoyed. I would get the tartare again, but skip on the soup. The duck and croque madame my friends got were great. Desserts were DELICIOUS and good value. In an area with tourist traps, this is not one of them! Tons of locals frequenting too, and good food for fair price. read more

Au Petit Suisse is one of Paris' oldest brasseries, first opened in 1791. That's right, it has stood on this same corner for almost 225 years! This little place is a gem, with great food in large portions, a great location directly across from the Jardin du Luxembourg, and good prices for Paris. I has a scrumptious omelette with ham and onions that came with a big green salad (€8.8). This was big and filling and full of flavor. The omelette was fluffy and the ham (really more like bacon) tender albeit a little fatty. But the overall omelette was great. The reason that I ordered this was because I had seen it upon entering the restaurant on another diner's plate. It just looked so good! Of course, being a brasserie, they have a very nice selection of beers and French wines. I had a very nice glass of rouge (red) for €6 - cannot remember the details. My wife and I went there for our last dinner in Paris. We were not disappointed. It was one of the best meals we had in Paris. The waiter was was wonderful considering how busy it was. The food was amazing as was the wine. We couldn't have asked for a better last dinner in Paris. The only think that kept it from getting a full five star review was something they had no control over. We went in a Sunday evening when many other places were closed. Given that and it's location across from the Luxembourg Gardens it was very busy and we ended up with a less than ideal table. That being said the one waiter they had was on top of it and made sure we were served well. I would defiantly recommend eating here. read more

I've spent a lot of time in Paris and there is a universal truth in that if the brassierie is in a tourist spot, the food will be mediocre and expensive. However, The Wife, The Girls and I were famished (and very cranky) as we walked to Jardin du Luxembourg in the early afternoon, and we had to eat something. After noticing the restaurant down the street had a Michelin star, we passed and looked for a brassierie, with food quality be damned. Man were we lucky to find Au Petit Suisse. We were seated inside, and our waiter, while busy, was attentive. I had to double check the prices because they were all half the cost I was expecting. Even worse I thought. I ordered the Croque Madame and the Girls split the duck, I believe The Wife had a salad. My dish was served and it was presented well. I took a bite and...scrumptious! I also bullied my way into a taste of the honey-glazed duck from The Girls and it was even better. We were getting our food quickly, they had a nice wine selection (I stuck with a Belgian beer), and the waiter worked well with our poor French and his better English. Finally, after a bunch of misses in the many tourist regions of Paris, I found a place that is more local in flavor and price. A wonderful find, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. read more

Bookmarked this spot for cheese boards and wow, a lot of food! This spot sits on the corner overlooking an odd angle of Luxemburg Gardens. It has a cute but small patio. We ordered up the JOINT BOARD for 14.8€ that included: Salad, Roquefort, Cantal, dry sausage, ham, pate, rillettes. The sausages were really great! The cheese was just OK and not really quality. But most importantly it was just too much food. We felt so bad especially for a decent price point throwing this away. Between two people we barely ate a third of what the portion was. Au Petitit Suisse is a traditional style cafe near the Sorbonne. The French language flows fluently here, the coffee is good and strong and the selection of pastosseries 'maison' are par excellence. What I really love about Petit Suisse is its rustic rendition of Croque Madame. Within Paris, it seems no two Croque Madames are alike. The consistency (particularly the cheese to ham to béchamel sauce ratio) of this French treat can widely vary from cafe to cafe. Petit Suisse's offering is layered upon thick crunchy whole grain bread, countered by a well proportioned layer of béchamel sauce, sliced ham and cheese toasted to goldenish brown perfection. It is easy to sit back in this discrete corner of Paris and pass time watching the locals interact while enjoying good quality cafe fare. read more

This was, by far, our worst meal in Paris. So bad as to be inedible. The steak was like rubber, served stone cold, as were the side potatoes, and the salad had a rancid, bitter dressing.. (gone bad?). When we asked to have them removed from bill (still paying for drink and apps) they refused and threatened to call police on us! (We are 70 years old, not dine-and-dash teenagers, lol). We've had the same dishes at many other restaurants and never had a problem, so i know we enjoy these dishes....I see other good reviews here, so maybe our experience was an outlier, but still.. had to share our experience, in spirit of full disclosure.
