Le Comptoir was recommended to me by a friend. I was absolutely starving, so I quickly asked her for a recommendation on what to get and she told me to get the foie gras- and I had no idea what that was. Now, the entire menu was in French and it was time for me to order, I didn't want to bother the waiter asking what each menu item was. Everyone already seemed in a hurry, so I went ahead and ordered the foie gras. It came, and I still didn't make out what it was. I took a bite, and I ended up not liking it at all. I shot a text to my friend asking her what it was, and she said duck liver! Go figure - I hate all kinds of liver! As far as liver itself goes, it was really good. It had a rich, buttery taste and a multi-sensory experience, especially with the dressing they put on top. As far as my tastebuds go, I did not like it (but that's not Le Comptoirs problem, it's just a me problem!) Thats just to give a nice little quirky story. But I also understand duck liver is a specialty, so I'm really grateful that I tried it now in my lifetime. The wine selection was fantastic, I enjoyed my wine and will be stopping in here again during my next trip to Paris to try more of their wine and menu items!

"A good find in a touristy area" I was expecting a lot less when I came here. I was thinking from all of the reviews that it was going to be very average food for the lemmings. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the range of options on the menu, including unusual ones that are atypical. What's to cheer? - Very good escargot and bread ! - wonderful outdoor seating, not facing a super busy street - fast service - good menu - fair prices What's to jeer - Staff can be a little surly - No duck on the menu

We made Thanksgiving reservations at this Monmartre treasure because of Anthony Bourdain's review in his world traveler book. It did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for something special. The chatter, energy and ambience of the space made us feel immediately comfortable and the welcome we received made us feel more like family than customers. From there, everything that happened was a dream. The wine, water, mains, dessert all left us full, happy and wishing we could eat more and more and more. The people around us were close and a part of our shared fellowship with each other and food. Treat yourself and check this out. You'll be so happy you did.

Very good restaurant for French cuisine. Thanks to the reviewers before me leave a good guidance. Definitely accurate and true. I call the restaurant ahead to see if reservations is needed and available table. They told me during the time I call has a lot open table. We got seated as they have said. I started with the local wine. It is good to go with the steak. Our appetizers is the Burgundy Escargot. This appetizer is recommended by many yelpers. The escargot is double size than most escargot. Love the chamber filled with green olive oil sauce. Once you scoop out the meat, you may want to empty the sauce to the plate for bread dipping sauce. I got the veal steak with potatoes. The steak top with fried onion sauce. The steak is tender and nice to have. The veal in France look like pork but is not pork. My wife have the cod fish fillet with squid ink pasta. They serve like soup base bottom. The pasta is interesting. My wife said it taste like black mushroom. Overall our experience is really good. Love the taste. It was final night in Paris to end the tour with good meal.

Excellent restaurant for French cuisine. While the menus are in French, you can utilize Google Translate to figure out what's on the menu, or ask the server! Some of them do speak English. Their menu is seasonal, so it will change on a routine basis. While we were there in July 2022, we ordered two appetizers and two entrees. Escargot: can skip. Not the best tasting we've had and can be omitted. Tomato salad: SO GOOD. I have never had tomatoes that tasted so sweet, juicy, and refreshing. The buratta cheese was not overwhelming or overly heavy. The picked onions paired perfectly with the overall dish. Seared blue fin tuna: refreshing. While the fish was dry on the edges, it was plated on a bed of spring greenery that was complimentary to the fish. Very light, and very refreshing. Shredded pork feet: flavorful, but heavy. Never had pork feet made this way before. Texture was very soft. Interesting dish to try. Overall, the ambience is fantastic as this restaurants sits at the edge of two other intersections.

Dined only for escargot so can only review on one menu item, but the escargot is delicious here! Good size as well and comes in a dozen. Pricing is basically over 2euro each. Table bread that is served with, is also delicious and fresh. Server was efficient and friendly. Location is in the busy St. Germain area.

Honestly, it was just ok. I came here for a really late dinner with my friend when visiting Paris. I would definitely give this place a pass and try someplace else if I could go back again. The menu was in French, but Google Translate came in pretty handy! I had the beef stew and honestly, it was OK but nothing amazing. The pickled red onions in the dish really ruined it for me; I had to take them out. I am normally a huge fan of pickled red onions, but something about them was incredibly overpowering and way too acidic. I would personally pass on the dessert and go somewhere else. It was mid and definitely skippable. Overall a little pricy and generally a pretty forgettable meal. It wasn't bad, just wasn't anything amazing.

Ordered a steak, pork cheek stew, eggs with mayonnaise, and a Paris Brest dessert. The dessert was terrific. The steak was very tough even though it was cooked to medium well. The pork stew was bland. The steak meal comes with nothing. No vegetables or a potato. I ordered mashed potato's at an extra cost. The steak cost 32 euros and the stew 24. An an orangeina drink cost 4 euro and 5 for a small cup of cafe au lait. The eggs were boiled and drenched with a mayonnaise sauce and covered with greens. Again nothing special. I believe Anthony Bourdain was at this restaurant on one his recent shows. Although he didn't mention whether it was good or not. Everything here was bland even the coffee was below sub par. Nice waiter and not so friendly owner. The location is good, but would look for something else.

Thinking about this review has me dreaming of my first day in Paris and I want to relive the flavors all over again. Stopped by Le Comptoir for a late lunch with friends who were also in Paris at the same time. The restaurant is well-known, so there was a queue to have a seat. No matter, they have a few sister restaurants next door so we stopped in there for a wine and some bread (more on that later when I review that restaurant). After a 40 min or so wait, our table of 4 was seated outside. It was chilly, but thanks to space heaters that are located in the awning over the table - you are able to enjoy outside and the people watching that comes with it without a care in the world. On to the goods. We ordered a few things to snack on. +Escargot: this was incredible. Garlicy, buttery, flavorful. The best part was dipping the baguette in the escargot sauce once I was done. *drools* +Charcuterie Meat & Cheese Board: HOLY YUM. My heart belongs in France, I think, with a plate of this wonderful cheese. I could enjoy wine, cheese and meats as my meal any day, and these were superb. The meats had some sort of caramelized sweet bacon which was divine. I have no clue what cheeses came on the tray, but what I do know is some were quite stinky and I loved every bite. Unpasteurized cheeses have my heart, forever. +Pork Belly: essentially, our entree was bacon over mashed potatoes. I wish it was a litttttle crispier as it was pretty fatty but either way - how can one go wrong with pork and potatoes?! As for the wine - we ordered a bottle of Côtes du Rhône which was about 28 euro. After the bottle was done, I also enjoyed a glass of Beaujolais which is one of the only wines they have by the glass. It was just 5 Euro and super light. I absolutely loved this place, and would recommend snagging a spot to dine if you're in the area. Also - don't be afraid if there is a wait. The wine bar nextdoor is also divine!

Nothing wrong with it but I cannot understand the hype. The steak tartar was memorable. I love the bold use of scallion. The texture of the beef was perfect. I do love the fish in curry sauce. The orange flavor was divine. The steak was mediocre relative to American steaks to me. Pretty dry and tough. I do find their mash potato made likely with exclusively olive oil and interesting change. The lobster soup is good and their slight twist of adding white beans and salami is interesting. The ceasar salad is quite good. Not out of the ordinary. Their twist of adding chicken and bacon was interesting. Well prepared. The squid ink risotto tastes good. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. I do love the scallion added.

Disappointed with the flavors presented tonight. Service was good. I had the lobster bisque with chorizo and bacon. It was ok but served lukewarm. I had the cod in a broth. Lacked flavors. It tried to be clever by adding some Asian flavors on their. Salt would help in this scenario. Underwhelmed given their known reputation.

Les Avant-Comptoirs around the corner with its standing-only, small plates ethos gets more hype, but this sister bistro serving sit-down classics is absolutely worthwhile as well. The menu is meat-heavy, with stews (beef cheek!) and charcuterie, tartares and terrines. Even the salads are smothered by rich slabs of foie gras, so it's likely you'll need a nap afterward or at least you'll want to just sit there with your wine until it's time for another meal. I watched a creme brulee walk by and I'm still regretting not ordering one for myself. Don't let it happen to you. If there's a downside, I'd say that this is the only place we encountered where they are trying to live up to some stereotype of Parisian snobbery, so just go in with your eyes open and your awful French at the ready.

I specifically saw this from Bourdain's, Layover: Paris episode. It's a standing seafood bar with tapas! They serve you delicious corn bread like baguettes with butter, then they pour you crisp white wine from their incredible wine fridge, and carefully explain each dish they have. I loved their foie gras! It's like a tender buttery taste that resembles bone marrow in a way. This was a bucket list dish. We enjoyed their foie gras steak and escargot! The escargot was cooked to the point where we ate the shells! It was like munching on garlic butter-pesto bites! JUST DELISH!! This place is a great hangout spot to mingle with others while eating tapas. I highly recommend this place!

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

We were the first two in line so when the doors opened at 8 - we were able to get a small table. The restaurant is located behind the bar and is very small - it seats only 20-30 people. However, if you're craving steak in Paris - it's probably one of the best Argentine steakhouses around. The theme is very Heavy Metal and the menu has a lot of sexual innuendos so if you're rather conservative then you might have a problem but then again you probably won't be staying on this side of the city. The service was excellent - we had one waitress for the entire room but she was on top of everything! Best service we had for our entire Paris trip! The food was decent - not the best steak but not the worst. The portions on the steak were small but the portion size for the potatoes was huge. Make sure to get the extra sauce assortment and try them all with both the steak and potatoes. I ordered a chicken salad which came a little too drenched in dressing - not sure if that was normal or they thought I'd like it that way being from the states. Creme brûlée was decent. We also ordered empanadas as an appetizer - they resembled a pair of testicles - we got a kick out of that! In summary, decent food (maybe a little $$ for the quality) but the service was excellent and the theme was entertaining - heavy metal and sex. We bought a t-shirt to remember our night.
