A very small unassuming restaurant where everyone comes in must have a reservation. I made one for myself. As I am here for a work trip. The restaurant was off of the seine nearby the Notre Dame. The service was very attentive and welcoming. I ordered the escargot to start, which was not my favorite. I should always know never to get escargot not baked in its shell. This was cooked in a milky green broth. Not a fan. Followed by duck, with was topped with a piece of foie gras poêlé. Which was the reason I came to this restaurant. I really enjoyed this dish. And I also got a side of mache salad, which I normally love but this one was so sandy. I don't think they washed it properly. Overall service was excellent. Our absolute favorite meal on our entire trip was at this place.. it was that good! The place is warm and cozy, the service was spectacular. Coming to the food.. we got the escargot to start and it was delicious. The sauce it came with was excellent for dipping. For the entrees, I got the pepper crusted steak and my husband got the duck. Both were excellent! It was my husband's birthday and we got the molten chocolate cake and they brought it out with sparkles singing happy birthday.. it was a surprise we weren't expecting and it truly warmed our hearts. Without a doubt my best meal in France. We stumbled on this place on a walk to Notre dame from our hotel, and decided to have dinner. Everything was fantastic, from the service, to the quiet ambience, to the food. Servers were friendly and spoke both English and French, and everything came out quickly and clearly freshly cooked. This place was in the Michelin guide for a reason, we went back a second time before we left Paris it was so good. The burrata starter was fresh with flavorful tomatoes, and the bread and butter was great plus they brought more out when we ate it all. The star of the show for me was the beef tournedos. Tender, perfectly cooked, and in a peppercorn sauce I'll think about for the rest of my life. The potatoes on the side were buttery perfection. My friend also loved her cheese pasta. When we came back, we shared the garlic crusted lamb and absolutely polished the plate, it was piping hot garlicky goodness. We came here twice on our trip because it was just that good. I fervently believe that it would be impossible for there to be a bad dish on the menu. From the crusted lamb, to the ravioli, to the tomato salad, every single bite was amazing and we didn't leave one behind. Service was lovely - everyone was so friendly. The pastries and breads were amazing. It was good that we went back twice, even though the shop was located over a mile from where we were staying and we had to walk there. I found this restaurant through Yelp a few years ago. I've been to this same restaurant the last two times I've been to Paris. And I had to return for a third! The escargot is my favorite way I've had it prepared, and I'm so glad they've stayed consistent all these years. The sauce is so incredible it took me away from the stress of a big trip and brought me to a happy place of true delight. Definitely recommend. I got the 7 piece for one person. I've also always gotten the duck parmentier too. It's incredibly cooked duck with a super delicious and fatty foie gras. The sauce that accompanies the meat and mashed potatoes is to die for too. I wish it were slightly crispier but it's still such a well made dish. It's heavy btw but delicious. I will be back next time I'm in Paris too! The staff is very attentive and considerate. There was a funny and sassy Asian lady and her foil a more "demure" French (I think?) lady waiting the tables. I came a little before closing so they were in a little hurry to close the kitchen but glad I was able to squeeze this in on a short layover. They were very kind. One of the most incredible meals I have ever had. Came here with my girlfriend on our first night of vacation. The service was amazing, and our waiter gave us the best and most delicious food recommendations. I had the sea bass, which was in this creamy vanilla sauce, and at first glance, I expected this combination to not work. However, this piece of fish was perfect-- the sauce was addicting to say the least and this plate deserved to be licked clean. My girlfriend had the pork cheeks, which our waiter said they were known for. It came out in a sizzling hot bowl, in a broth with potatoes and some other vegetables. My absolute FAVORITE restaurant in Paris! Whenever I hear anyone is taking a trip to Paris, I tell them they must dine at Le Petit Pointoise! Twice, I've been lucky enough to score a table without reservations. The first time, we arrived right when the restaurant opened for dinner. The second time, we hit the tail end of dinner service and they were nice enough to seat us. Don't chance it! Make your reservations in advance! Everything I've had here has been phenomenal. I don't think there is a dish on the menu that isn't good. The highlight, believe it or not, was their beet mille feuille. Such simple ingredients, yet they are a flavor explosion in your mouth! This is a little restaurant in the Latin Quarter that isn't a well known place but the food is to die for. Excellent service as well. We had the beet & goat cheese appetizer and I had the lamb (roasted 7 hrs, so fresh, melt in your mouth) and my husband had the fish of the day also super fresh. Both were amazing. We had a St Emilion wine to go with. All was tasty and delicious. We even had a server give us some pear Cognac which I'd never had before. All was wonderful. Definitely going back before leaving Paris. PS: Unfortunately we were unable to come back as we ran out of time. This place has two separate dining areas, one for a more formal dinner and one for a more casual dinner. The Le Petit Pontoise .... Aussi is the one you are looking for if you want a more formal dinner. A set menu is 37 euros for starters, fish or meats, and desserts. Starters: Pot of snails was quite tasty and had 14 pieces of snail! I've never had so much snail in one sitting before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Onions soup is super cheesy, yet appetizing in its own manner. Meats: I've never had rabbit before so when my girlfriend ordered rabbit grand mother style, I had to try it, and boy did I enjoy it. Tasted kind of like chicken, but a whole lot better especially with the sauce. The shank of lamb was also good, but I definitely preferred her rabbit over my lamb. Desserts: The tiramisu is delicious! The lady fingers layer was just TOO GOOD. Best tiramisu I've ever had, not too sweet and very flavorful. The creme brulee has a thick, hard crust that is tougher than the average creme brulee. Each bite was too sweat and overflowing with flavor. Everything here is well made, well presented, and well portioned. The service was great and I wholly enjoyed my meal here, would love to come back. read more

Arrived here almost 9 pm.on our second night in Paris.The place was still packed with patrons, mostly though English speaking tourists. Hmm....... (using my son's usual text). Half an hour later we're finally seated outside which actually was quite nice and Parisian (haha) in a balmy night! Our first impression of an apparent tourist trap turned out to be faux, The dishes we ordered were very palatable and flavourful. Our most memorable one was a shared appetizer: Notre cassolette d'escargots.The escargots were served out of the shell, fresh, and drown in thick garlic butter cream sauce. We ate 3 baskets of baquettes dipping them in this delectable sauce until it's all gone. This is a must try! Who care if the dish was traditional French enough or not! We were easily able to reserve a table for a Friday night in January using the restaurant website. They responded within 24 hours and they ask that you confirm again by call or email on the day of reservation. The restaurant is adorable, the menu in chalk hung on the wall in French, and a paper menu in English for us 'out of towners'. Great decor and small French restaurant ambiance. And the food.....fantastic! We had the artichoke tart to start. It was light and tasty. I had the scallops dish which was the best scallops dish I can ever remember having. They were generous with the portion, plus vegetables, all in a buttery garlic juice. My husband had the filet of beef with mushrooms, potatoes and gravy and also truly enjoyed his dish. Just had New Years Eve dinner here. Pretty good if you want great French comfort food. Prices ok for a left bank restaurant with 10-13 tables in the room. My wife had the escargot as appetizer and a Bar fillet for Mai that were absolutely spot on. She finished with a tiramisu that was great. I had the raviolis as an appetizer which were surprisingly great. I asked for extra truffles but there was a mix up but very happy with result as the truffles probably Lu would have overwhelmed the sauce. I had the agneau and vegetables and mashed potatoes. Hearty. Flavorful and glad we walked a couple klicks to get back to the hotel. I had fruit brined in Armagnac as a dessert. Really good but I added vanilla ice cream and that sent it over the top. read more

This place was recommended to me by a coworker who used to live in Paris. It is pretty close to the Notre Dame cathedral, so the fact it was walking distance was perfect after a long day of touristing. It is tucked away on a mini side street off two big streets. Major plus number 1: the woman who seemed to be in charge (and the only one working besides the chefs) was incredibly friendly and helpful. I came here with my dad and neither of us know any French (bit that didn't stop us from trying). She helped us find the English menu and allowed us to come and sit for lunch-- even though it was before they were actually open. She seemed to appreciate our feeble attempts to speak the language, and helped us order our meal in French. That was awesome because now we can actually order food without looking like complete idiots. Major plus number 2: the cheese ravioli dauphine (I'm pretty sure that's how it's spelled). The food was really good, and I'll hit on that later, but these raviolis were heaven. They are appetizer size and come out BUBBLING in cheese. To be honest we weren't really sure if they were raviolis because of how much cheese was smothered on top... So when we dug in it was magic. The raviolis were really tiny, which was cute, and they were cooked to perfection. I'm not kidding you, I wish I got it for my actually lunch and for dessert. So. Freaking. Tasty. We got sea bass in a vanilla sauce accompanied with veggies as well as chicken and homemade mashed potatoes. The sea bass was very light and yummy and the vanilla sauce (which seemed weird at first) really paired nicely with the fish. The chicken was tasty, even though it was mostly white meat (I'm a dark meat kind of gal) and the mashed potatoes were fantastic! I was so full after eating that I didn't even have room for dessert... And I always eat dessert. Overall this place was wonderful. It is cute and quaint, a bit off the beaten path, super friendly wait staff, and absolutely wonderful food. Our meal, with a bottle of water, came out to just about 70€, which is (to me) a bit pricy for lunch... HOWEVER, it was totally worth it, and I look forward to coming back here ASAP. read more

My favorite bistro meal in Paris during our recent trip, likely owing to our entrée choices. Le Petit Pontoise is tucked away into a side street not far from Nôtre Dame or the river Seine. Its location is in close proximity to a number of popular tourist attractions, as well as Le Quartier Latin and St. Germain-des-Prés, if you don't mind a little bit of walking. I highly recommend taking a nice long stroll after your heavy meal here, if the weather allows. We made a reservation a few weeks in advance via our hotel concierge, so I cannot speak to how hard it is to get a table here. We did go on a Thursday night in the springtime at 8pm, and by 8:30pm the place was full. As mentioned in other reviews, the woman who is in charge here is efficient but not overbearing. I loved the atmosphere in Le Petit Pontoise because it was casual and cottage-like, while still maintaining a lot of class. It's not the most romantic of places - perfect for a group of friends or family to eat some home-cooked food and linger over dessert. We started, as we always did, with two glasses of champagne. It's such a perfect way to start a meal - I never realized prior to our recent trip to France how a single glass of champagne can really set the excitement, anticipation and tone of the meal. It's a signal that the time to relax has come. It's a sign of celebration. Try it for yourself and you'll be a fan, I'm sure! Our starters were the roasted Camembert and cheesy ravioli. Both were spectacular. Really, how can you go wrong with a quality block of Camembert (with just the right hint of bitter) roasted in the oven until warm and gooey? The ravioli was also wonderful, certainly the best version of "mac and cheese" I've ever had. As a warning, it does come out very hot, so you'll have to wait for it to cool. But the marrying of cheeses in a way that is palatable but not overwhelming is commendable. The roux underneath the melted cheese was also perfect and the ravioli were not overcooked. It seems like a very simple dish, but often these are the hardest to master because there is no complexity to hide mistakes. My main dish was the favorite that I had in over 9 days in France: the pig stew. It was sweet but savory and served in a mini casserole dish. It reminded me of something that would be served in Quebec or French Canada, simply because of how hearty it was. It was clearly a family recipe of some sort, and it was delicious -- the pork fell apart but was not desiccated and I was so glad to have some bread on the side to mop up the gravy. My husband had duck breast and foie gras over mashed potatoes -- the ultimate in comfort food. Full of flavor but not heavy-handed The beauty of this place is that the atmosphere, service and food do not feel forced. You don't feel like it's a big production. Our meal took under 2 hours, which, by French standards, was such a welcome relief, because we actually had time to take a walk and enjoy part of the night once it was over!
