When it came to finding a late night meal in Paris, Au Pied de Cochon seemed to be one of the only options. We had a LONG day, overbooking ourselves with tours, steps, and sight seeing and had missed dinner, so we pulled up to APC at midnight and were seated immediately THANK GOD. We were starving. The interior is exactly what I think of when I think of a French ass restaurant... HURRY UP WITH MY DAMN CROISSANT! We sat and scanned the huge menu and settled on the "must taste" charcuterie platter, the beef fillet (medium rare), and some french fries for the plot. As we were waiting, talking the night away over a bottle of red wine, our server brought over a jar of pickles. I was gassed up as I love pickles, but my excitement turned to depression as the jar was filled with gnats. That one hurt. I didn't even want to write this, but there truly were a good amount of gnats in that thing and I think the consumer should know. It kind of ruined the rest of the meal for us. It only went further south when our steak was put on the table, as that thing was still alive damn near. I ordered medium rare, and in my ignorant American opinion, this thing was cooked blue rare (which is less cooked than rare). However, my research says that typical French steaks are cooked less than American ones. I am not knocking off any stars for a cultural difference that I wasn't aware of. I am taking full responsibility for this. I loathe when Americans travel and expect a different culture to cater specifically to their American tastebuds. We saw a couple a few tables from us get this crepe that the server poured some liquid fire over, so we got that for dessert. The liquid fire turned out to be Grand Marnier, and this is how I found out the hard way that I REALLY don't like Grand Marnier. We happened to pass by this so-called "iconic" restaurant late at night after already having dinner elsewhere and decided to stop in for a light snack. There was no wait, so we sat outside. Our waiter handed us the menu and bounced between nearby tables, but when we ordered just a couple of starters, he actually complained that we were supposed to order one main dish per person--then said he'd make an "exception" this time. I'm honestly not sure why this place has gotten bad reviews -I had a great experience from start to finish. We ordered the French onion soup, Caesar salad, mussels, and the 14-hour pork shoulder and every single dish was full of flavor. Bustling brasserie that's open late nights. Came here for dinner with my family and waited for about 40 minutes to get a table on a Saturday around 8pm. Anthony Bourdain ate here so I imagine that's partially why it is so busy. The food is straightforwardly French and the waiters are the same. I think that there are better options in Paris for French food but this is convenient is you're looking to have a late night dinner. The potato au gratin was the best part of the meal for me. Lovely spot for traditional French food! I visited this classic Parisian spot for dinner after a friend who grew up in the city recommended it. The servers were friendly and guided us -- and our English menus -- to a cozy little spot in the corner of their outdoor seating area. Au Pied de Cochon is known for their seafood and, as the name implies, their pork, so we knew we had to sample both of those specialities. We split an order of escargot to start, which was fantastic. The snails were tender and had a slightly briny, earthy flavor that went delightfully with the fresh herbs and butter. It came with plenty of crusty baguette slices, which was perfect for soaking up all the extra butter. My friend got their Salade Saint-Antoine, a signature salad loaded with several cuts of pork, potatoes, and even more escargot. It was massive and not exactly the most salad-like, given the copious amounts of pork, but it was quite tasty. I ordered their classic Moules Frites, which were also great. The mussels were cooked in a flavorful white wine sauce, and it came with plenty of fries to soak up the extra sauce at the end. I did find the mussels slightly overcooked, as they were a bit too chewy and almost gummy, but I appreciated the flavor of the sauce. On the other hand, the fries were a smidge soggy and very short, so you had to dig for them at the bottom of the container. This brasserie never sleeps! It's a favorite of my parents, especially my late mother. They first went here in 2013 based on a recommendation. When I went to Paris with them in 2016, we ended up going here several times, trying different menu items each time. I remember enjoying the razor clams, pig's foot, and the Gillardeau oysters. I also loved the belle epoque decor. Now in 2024, I was here on a very short 4 day trip with some friends, and had to show them my mother's favorite place to eat. One friend was on an onion soup quest, trying the dish at every restaurant we ate at in Paris. She also ordered the soup at a restaurant in Versailles. Out of all the places she ate onion soup, Au Pied de Cochon was her favorite, so much so that we ended up going back on the night before we left Paris. The locals sitting next to us were rather amused by her enthusiasm toward the soupe à l'oignon. Thanks to Google Translate, we were able to have a fun conversation with them throughout the evening. I had not tried their soup back in 2016, so I was sure to rectify that this visit. I don't eat soupe à l'oignon much, but I enjoyed it. Service has always been good during each of my visits. We walked by the restaurant almost everyday during our 10-day stay in Paris last month. It looked busy and lively right by the Les Halles metro station facing the plaza by Westfield Forum so we decided to give it a try. We did not realize its popularity when we were not able to make a dinner reservation online for the same day despite the size of the restaurant and it's open 24 hrs a day. However, we were able to make a lunch reservation the next day. We sat by the street so it was a perfect spot to people watch on a sunny afternoon. I couldn't pass up on having escargots to start my lunch and they were delicious. However, I was almost giddy when my grilled pork trotter came to the table with a salivating side of fries. I tried hard to be civilized while devouring the trotter. I managed to be able to use my cutlery and refrain from using my fingers to get every bit of goodness from the trotter. While the skin and the crust were perfectly crispy, the inside goodness was tender while retaining the chewy texture in every bite. After the treatment from the waiter, and the fact that this restaurant was packed like sardines (yes, we know of brasserie culture, but this is to the 10th degree), we decided not to have any dessert and made our way out. When we told the waiter he didn't seem to care, nor did the hostess downstairs. It was the most disgusting thing I've seen in all my years of dining out all over the world. We randomly found this spot on Yelp, which happened to be close to our hotel. We were unable to nab last minute reservations but we got there at around 6:40 pm on a Tuesday and they were able to seat us outside. To start, I had an aperol spritz mocktail, which was really good. For food, we shared: Bone marrow (snails fricassee with garlic cream) - I have mixed reviews about this one. On one hand, the garlic cream was good, albeit very rich. On the other hand, I feel like it covered up the natural bone marrow taste. 3 oysters - I can't remember which type we got but these were pretty standard. It's served w a mignonette and some brown bread Périgord-style stuffed pork's trotter (mushrooms, new potatoes) - the trotter was meh but the mushrooms were perfectly done. The texture was great and it had lots of flavor The Temptation of Saint Anthony, Patron of the Butchers (breaded pork's tail, ear, snout and trotter served with Béarnaise sauce and homemade French fries) - I'm all for trying different parts of the animal but this wasn't it for me. I wasn't really sure what to expect but it was mainly fat and skin. Most of it was pretty salty. It wasn't worth it for €27.50. The only thing I enjoyed from that plate was the frisee salad. I waited about 10-15 minutes to eh seated which is not bad at all with no reservation and with how packed it was. We had 1/2 lobster and 9 mixed oysters as starters - both very good. The mignonette was pretty much just red vinegar - I would have liked som additions to it (like champagne). The sea bass main was very good. Also tried the pigs foot special which was tasty (not a lot of meat on a pigs foot). It was recommended to me by my friend who lives in Paris, so I knew it was a solid reco.
