I love it that this restaurant cafe features regional ingredients from Basque Country. I like it how the menu describes the breeds of pigs, cows and ducks sourced, their history and their suppliers. By mistake I got the dried tuna platter. I wanted the black pudding but didn't send the tuna platter back because it looked stunning. The almond cream pie and cherry pie are a good way to end the meal assuming you didn't order their gigantic pork chop. I would come back without hesitation. read more

Solid two star establishment. The potato side was good. The vegetable platter main dish was basically a cole slaw salad with some quiche type patty. The quiche was great but the poorly dressed slaw went untouched. My coworker ordered pork for his main dish and was given a cut of beef. After telling the waiter, they told him the other dish he ordered was too small and this was the better dish. Huh? He doesn't eat beef, so it was kind of rude and comical to hear the server basically say "deal with it" and not try to correct the situation. I would say the food was a solid 2.5 to 3 stars depending on what you order, but the poor service and mistakes caused me to round the rating down. I was treated to my first leisurely "outdoor French cafe" experience here while on my vacation in September. A fine day, a tree-shaded patio, a genial waiter, a wonderful platter of charcuterie et fromage. (And, when I traversed down a perilous staircase to the toilettes, I was treated to hearing someone singing in the kitchen: "I shot the sherriffff..." :) ) In short, ambiance, service, food, personality. An oasis just blocks from Notre Dame. Shade, quiet, cold drinks and reasonably priced meals make this an island in the middle of a very busy, expensive part of town. It's a 5 minute walk from the heat and press of humanity at the cathedral, and 1 block off the packed, overpriced bistros along the Quai de Montebello. We enjoyed our meal, sitting out on the patio. The food was very good and the service was friendly. The sea bass was fantastic, and the plat du jour of pork was great. The carafe of cold water always full, and the house wine is a good deal. We spent an hour and a half and were never rushed. The WCs are very clean. The view is quintessentially Paris, take the time to watch the city go by. This is a local's place, not a tourist dive. After walking around Notre Dame on a cold chilly December evening we decided to have dinner in the area. So many choices and read the reviews here on yelp and decided on this place finally. It was about 8:30 and the place was packed so we figured they would either tell us to wait an hour or eat outside. Nope, to our delight the hostess said something to us in French, then began clearing the table where all their menus and cutlery were held. Not only was service great but so was the food. One for $16,000+ and one just now being hit first at cigar shop for $900+. Pretty much everything you could want from a dinner on the patio of a French cafe. I was a bit worried about veggie options as the menu was very traditional--lots of sausage, cured meats, stews, tartares, etc., but the vegetarian platter was really delicious and satisfying. The weather was ridiculous (95F) so I tried both types of the Oldarki beers on draft to cool down. The pilsner-style was really refreshing, but the amber had a lot more flavor to complement the food. Of course I had to finish everything off with an espresso, which hit the spot. The service was above average for Paris, and so overall I would highly recommend you stop off here for a leisurely Parisian dinner. read more

This was my first trip to Paris. My wife not so. We stayed in the Latin Quarter and were looking for one last celebratory dinner to cap the trip. We wanted an interesting restaurant within walking distance. We searched for the top restaurants and Beaurepaire came up. It looked interesting so we called in a reservation- in English. No problem. We arrived 30 minutes early but we're immediately accommodated with a well situated table for two. The patrons that rolled in were an eclectic bunch. Mostly locals which I always take as a good sign. Typical Parisien service- relaxed but attentive. Not even McDonald's has fast service here so chill and enjoy the ambiance. Once we got rolling, the support on the menu and explanation of Basque cuisine and wine was everything we needed to make satisfactory choices. Our server was amazing. Multilingual and a good sense of humor. We had one hiccup with the order and it was corrected immediately and without hesitation. We had the basque prime rib for two with sides. Cooked perfectly with an offer to cook it further if required. Not necessary. Before arriving we had read some negative reviews about service and price. We experienced none of this and left a US standard tip. I would return without hesitation. read more

This delightful Basque restaurant in the Notre Dame neighborhood was amazing. We had wanted to try it each time we visited Paris. It was certainly worth the wait. The patio dining was a little cozy (two couples with strollers crammed themselves into the patio), and was covered to protect from the cool fall weather. A delightful spot with good food and both indoor and outdoor (under canopy) seating. Pleasant and knowledgeable staff and capable of handling a table of three silly Americans. We had duck and lamb and a mixed plate of pâté, as well as lox with toast, Creme brûlée, mousse, and cafe gourmande, wine, Coca-cola, and a fine time was had by all. Great location good food and fair prices. We will be back again this trip! Sept 14 update: Made one visit there this trip. Watched the waitress tell customers that service is NOT included in the bill (it IS included). Customers added five euros to each of their three credit card payments as additional tip. Food was poor and not the cleanest place, but ambiance/service/location was good. I was baffled why it was packed all day long, but think that has something to do with it being a block from Notre Dame Cathedral. We spent 10 days on this trip in Paris and hit many other eateries. This was our most expensive meal of the trip (we only ate at moderate priced cafes on this trip) and by far the worst. Is like to start off by saying its remarkable how, in Paris, there can be adjacent streets one of which will be super busy with tourists, the second quiet and tucked away. Beaurepaire is on a quiet street in a busy neighborhood but you wouldn't be able to tell by how calm it is around the restaurant patio. The atmosphere is very present and the staff very kind, helpful, and willing to attend to your wishes or answer any questions you may have. I would recommend people looking for vegetables not come here for there menu is almost entirely meat and fish, but their deserts have very delicious fresh fruits. I was recommended this restaurant by my cousin who lives in Paris and would recommend it to the rest of my French relatives and friends and anyone who comes to Paris to visit. read more
