A seat outside

An oasis just blocks from Notre Dame. Shade, quiet, cold drinks and reasonably priced meals make this an island in the middle of a very busy, expensive part of town. It's a 5 minute walk from the heat and press of humanity at the cathedral, and 1 block off the packed, overpriced bistros along the Quai de Montebello. We enjoyed our meal, sitting out on the patio. The food was very good and the service was friendly. The sea bass was fantastic, and the plat du jour of pork was great. The carafe of cold water always full, and the house wine is a good deal. We spent an hour and a half and were never rushed. The WCs are very clean. The view is quintessentially Paris, take the time to watch the city go by. This is a local's place, not a tourist dive. Did I mention this is a quiet, shady, nice, affordable place just a 5 minute walk from Notre Dame?

It was interesting that both my fiancé & I tried to order main dishes that unfortunately the only 2 items they were out that day (duck leg & country sausage). However, we still enjoyed our veal & pork main dishes. The servings were pretty decent that we didn't have room for dessert.

After walking around Notre Dame on a cold chilly December evening we decided to have dinner in the area. So many choices and read the reviews here on yelp and decided on this place finally. It was about 8:30 and the place was packed so we figured they would either tell us to wait an hour or eat outside. Nope, to our delight the hostess said something to us in French, then began clearing the table where all their menus and cutlery were held. Not only was service great but so was the food. We had the lamb chops, a basque seafood special and the stew. Generous portions, all cooked perfectly .

Vegetable platter

Pretty much everything you could want from a dinner on the patio of a French cafe. I was a bit worried about veggie options as the menu was very traditional--lots of sausage, cured meats, stews, tartares, etc., but the vegetarian platter was really delicious and satisfying. The weather was ridiculous (95F) so I tried both types of the Oldarki beers on draft to cool down. The pilsner-style was really refreshing, but the amber had a lot more flavor to complement the food. Of course I had to finish everything off with an espresso, which hit the spot. The service was above average for Paris, and so overall I would highly recommend you stop off here for a leisurely Parisian dinner.

Excellent sea bass, very fresh

I had the cod omlette with chorizo starter, it was the perfect size for a light lunch. I would suggest this for breakfast or lunch.

We had the fortune of meeting a friend here that has been going to the other branch for 40 years and he swears by its authenticity. We started off with Kir Royales which is the quintessential pre meal beverage. And then moved on to mains as appetizers are not necessary given the portions. Their cassoulet was incredible with real stick to your ribs appeal. However I feel the star of the show was their 5 diamond salade. Imagine a bed of greens supporting their duck fat potatoes fried crisp, topped with generous portions of lardons and chicken livers. All garnished with mini rounds of cheese on toast and a fried egg! What is not to like? The decor is classic diner, nothing fancy it it is all about the food. Service was friendly and not intrusive.

We found the service quite friendly unlike what I was expecting after the reading of some of the Yelp review. Our server was super friendly even with my lack of the French language. I just showed him my Google translator to help when I ordered or needed an item. He did offer me a wine recommendation to accommodate my basque chicken meal that I did enjoy. My chicken was tender and fell off the bone. I would have liked a bit more meat in my dish. It came with a thigh and a small wing. For the price of 14 EUR, I would have like at least two thigh or a small chicken breast. Food was good not sure if it's something I would go back for. Desserts were a nice closer to the meal. Overall the vibe and service was a 4 star rating but food wise I would give it a 3.
