Pork and polenta (foreground) Veal and potatoes (background)

I'm not sure why this restaurant was virtually empty when we dined here last night. The food was very, very good and the service was friendly. The menu is only in French but the waiter translated everything for us. I had the veal and potato dish and would go back again for it. I audibly sighed with happiness after the first bite. It was a great mix of warm, homey flavors and very tender meat. Ugh I want some more right now!! My husband enjoyed the pork and mustard polenta dish. His words: 'the polenta is the star of this dish'. He said it all worked so well together. Even the dessert was memorable! A apple and plum tart with a lovely bit of vanilla ice cream. So good. It's just weird that there was only one other party dining here on a Friday night! (we started our meal at 8 and ended by 9:15) I'm assuming/hoping it was because there was a world cup game on and people chose to eat at a place with a TV. This chef is clearly very talented, and I would recommend Au Bascou to anyone in the area. Ps if it matters, the bathroom is completely mosaic from the top to bottom. So pretty!

Creamy asparagus soup with goat cheese and herbs

I've been here twice on two separate visits to Paris and it never fails to disappoint. The food is cooked perfectly, the kitchen is somewhat open and the menu is constantly changing! Loved the cream of asparagus soup with goat cheese and herbs, something about the mix of hot soup and cold goat cheese was perfect! I also highly recommend the Mille feuille cake buttery and flaky layers with vanilla custard. Mmmm!

Stuffed piquillo pepper appetizer melts in your mouth.

Off the tourist track bustling Basque restaurant packed with locals. Dinner including a reasonably priced bottle of wine and skipping should hit just under 100 Euro. Our stuffed piquillo pepper appetizer was incredible but our entrees were unfortunately lackluster. We really did enjoy the wine list and the wine, however. Nothing was special enough to interest in returning, however.

We had the fortune of meeting a friend here that has been going to the other branch for 40 years and he swears by its authenticity. We started off with Kir Royales which is the quintessential pre meal beverage. And then moved on to mains as appetizers are not necessary given the portions. Their cassoulet was incredible with real stick to your ribs appeal. However I feel the star of the show was their 5 diamond salade. Imagine a bed of greens supporting their duck fat potatoes fried crisp, topped with generous portions of lardons and chicken livers. All garnished with mini rounds of cheese on toast and a fried egg! What is not to like? The decor is classic diner, nothing fancy it it is all about the food. Service was friendly and not intrusive.

We found the service quite friendly unlike what I was expecting after the reading of some of the Yelp review. Our server was super friendly even with my lack of the French language. I just showed him my Google translator to help when I ordered or needed an item. He did offer me a wine recommendation to accommodate my basque chicken meal that I did enjoy. My chicken was tender and fell off the bone. I would have liked a bit more meat in my dish. It came with a thigh and a small wing. For the price of 14 EUR, I would have like at least two thigh or a small chicken breast. Food was good not sure if it's something I would go back for. Desserts were a nice closer to the meal. Overall the vibe and service was a 4 star rating but food wise I would give it a 3.
