Hands down our favorite meal in Paris. The razor clams were superb. Beef bourguignon was a highlight and very tender and flavorful. Veal was difficult to appreciate for our American tastebuds. The place was filled with locals and we loved the authentic experience.

My friend who is a Paris local took me here when I asked for a good traditional French dinner. Although they have a selection of only 6 wines and no 3-course menu, the food was great and traditional French. Did not disappoint! Boeuf Bourgignon was A+. Really friendly service-- unusually so for a Parisian restaurant.

Asparagus

The hostess and server were both very nice. The restaurant itself was very quaint. The tables are very close together as the space itself is small. We ordered the asparagus appetizer and we each took one bite and realized this wasn't what we envisioned as it was cold. The server took the appetizer away and was aware we didn't enjoy it. When we received the entrees I struggled with my first bite of the tenderloin. It was extremely chewy. I didn't want to cause a fuss so I was going to try and eat it but my husband could see that something was wrong and decided we could eat elsewhere. When the server returned we asked for the check and she asked if there was something wrong with the food. We let her know that it was and she brought the check. It would have been nice if she had removed the charge for the chewy tenderloin since it was inedible but she didn't. We paid more than 100 euros and still had to go elsewhere to get a decent meal. But everyone was very nice.

Wonderful experience here! Sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and were served by a super personable waiter. I wanted to try something a bit different for me, so I gave the Tatin De Boudin Noir a try. It's described as apple black pie pudding, pork blood, pig, onion, leek, and a side of mashed potatoes. I wasn't sure what to expect, but all my expeditions were well exceeded. It was amazing! Was unsure how the apples would go with the dish, but it added a wonderful sweet layer to the dish that worked well. My husband got the bouef bourguignon and the beef was super tender and the sauce was so flavorful. Definitely seemed to be a popular dish, since we saw other people eating it. Got the gaufre bruxelloise with caramel salted butter and chantilly for dessert. The dish was very pretty to look and and came with a lot of caramel and whipped cream to slather on the "waffles". Definitely add the toppings because they make the desert.

Having had a host of experiences that were just 'okay', I was looking forward to a proper night out on my most recent trip to Paris. Thanks to some excellent service and good food, Au Vieux Comptoir provided just that. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? While AVC is typically packed to the gills, I was pleased to find that my friend and I were seated immediately as we showed up roughly 30-45 minutes prior to closing. Was the server a bit grumpy? Yes, but it didn't take away from his professional attitude, and I respect that. The atmosphere is a great mix of in and outdoor seating, which is perfect weather permitting, and the cafe-style setting is authentically Parisian. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times: Paris is expensive, but I was pleased to find that my Mushroom Risotto clocked in at only €12.00 for a dinner portion. I love; love love love, the hell out of Risotto. It's my go-to for Italian, and as a result I'll admit that I'm pretty damn critical of the dish. While good, this wasn't the best risotto I've ever had, and I'll go ahead and chalk that up to having it a bit overcooked and thus a bit 'mushy'. However, the flavor was nice and I didn't walk away disappointed. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I would without hesitation go back to Au Vieux Comptoir in the near future, but I can't say it's among my favorite restaurants in Paris. However, if you're in the area, give it a go. No Star Granted.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

When I arrived, there was a rustic table in the entry room where I was seated. I enjoyed the mini mushroom raviolis and delicious Grand Marnier soufflé. The plat was somewhat odd because the chorizo chunks were really strong flavored which overpowered the scallops. I ate one chorizo chunk and pushed the rest aside. The scallops were cooked perfectly but not seasoned. The service was gruff/quite brief with dishes dropped by assistants. My biggest complaint was the stressful ambiance during the meal. It was freezing outside. The door constantly opened and new patrons came in hovering over diners in my room. Luckily I was not closer to the door and didn't have anyone over me. For ~170 Euros, the food was good but the experience was not.
