When I became pregnant, my mom (who is not local) started researching postpartum delivery services. She was going to come help with my baby for a few weeks but not the full month, so thought it'd be good to try the service. We sampled a couple other spots and went with Chen Mommy. It's walkable from Murray Hill LIRR station if you want to go and sample them and don't have a car. They did seem to be the best option in the NYC area given that they are inspected by health bureau and had the best balance of taste and Taiwanese style home cooking. We chose 21 days because it was flexible enough to spread out over the full month. The portions are huge even at the tasting, so it was likely that my husband and I were not going to finish each delivery in one day. We pre booked in advance for my Oct 2024 due date. The prices did go up in May 2024 so we booked in advance of that. It was easy to contact them to start right after I came home from the hospital. After finishing the full 21 days, I can agree with other reviewers that the dishes can feel repetitive over time. There's good variety if you look at just a 1 week window, but after awhile it is the same. The meat quality is generally not the best, but I think my husband and I concluded the vegetable variety is the best thing from this service. I also generally liked all the desserts. The one problem with this service is that it is banchan style and there are so many plastic containers used. We wish they just put everything into a bento box style so that there isn't so much plastic container waste. They cook with very little oil and salt for a good reason, but I began feeling more recovered after about 1.5weeks and we started adding salt for additional flavor, especially to the soups. We requested a couple days skipped here and there, and also requested for one less soup dish (and double up on other dishes) since it was difficult to finish those. They would send two extras of vegetable or meat dishes which was nice. The 麻油雞 which is an everyday item in the 3rd week wasn't very good, so I ended up asking to switch back to the kidney (which is an everyday item in the 2nd week). In terms of delivery timing, we were told our delivery window would typically be around 9-10am, but it was really inconsistent throughout the 21 days. Sometimes the food would not be delivered until noon. This generally was not a big deal since we would usually need to finish leftovers from prior days, but it can be a bit annoying if you expected to prepare the breakfast or lunch food at a certain time. In total we had 4 different drivers deliver, who would either call or text when the food is delivered (my doorman building only allows food delivery to be dropped off at the lobby). Overall I think the service is worthwhile especially since cooking or deciding what food to order (even if NYC has a ton of food options) is just an additional task to worry about in that first month postpartum, so it is reducing decision making. For my second child I would probably only do it for 7days though. FYI I only formula fed. read more

Amazing experience, post partum did the 2 week organic meal delivery. It arrives everyday in the morning and the staff were super responsive to my questions. It's a bit pricey but it gives you Chinese comfort food for post partum when your mom isn't around to do some cooking. It's just like how my mom used to cook. Lots of collagen rich soups and veggies with rice porridge. The meals are enough for more than one person. They also give you dessert and a drink for the day. I would definitely recommend for anyone who is focusing on their newborn and doesn't want to deal with cooking for the day or ordering food. I found Chen mommy through Yelp and used them for my postpartum meals. I went for a tasting and really enjoyed their food. Usually have to book at least a month prior to estimated due date. Jane was able to accommodate me last minute which was awesome. It really helped postpartum as I did not have to worry about food. The meals were delivered daily except for Sunday. On Saturdays I received two orders, one for that day and another for Sunday. Since I lived fairly close to the kitchen, I usually received my meals early in the morning. They offered free delivery to queens, Manhattan, and Long Island. I believe there is a delivery fee for New Jersey and Brooklyn. The delivery men spoke mandarían and would usually ring the door bell or call upon arrival. Each day I received about 15 containers of food. The breakfast was some type of pork, lots of liver in the beginning, congee, and egg. The were always two large containers of soups. The first week I also had shenghua soup. The lunches and dinners included rice, vegetable, meat, and dessert. These varied from day to day while the breakfast stayed the same. The food itself tasted very homey and did not have sugar or salt. I enjoyed the variety and it was definitely enough for two. I ordered the 14 day meal plan but they do offer 21 and 28 days. My hubby and I are preparing for Baby #2 and we really didn't wanna be bothered with taking care of 2 kids under 2 years old and making meals for ourselves. Therefore we decided to just sign up for Chen Mommy's kitchen postpartum meal plans.I didn't wanna order from them originally cause it is very pricey, but it's definitely worth the convenience. Jane, the Owner, is very flexible and is not pushy at all when picking out a package plan. I signed up for the 3 weeks meal plan but she said if I wanted to sign up for the 4 weeks plan, I can let her know a week in advance and I'll only have to pay for the difference between the 2 packages. She also said if it's too much food, I can get the food delivered every other day instead of every day. I'm not a fan of internal organs so she said I can switch it out for something else. Jane caters to your needs whether you want organic options or need a special diabetic option. We went for a sample testing, and to my surprise, it was quite tasty yet still healthy. Several friends have used their services before and said they had good experience with them. Jane just ask you to call them 8 weeks in advance due to high demands. I'm allergic to lactose milk and shellfish and never had a problem, all of her desserts are lactose free. I am incredibly thankful for Chen Mommy's Kitchen. They gave us a free taste test of meals at the beginning, was willing to work with our many requests - one of which was to use our own glass containers instead of plastic containers. They also accommodated a request to send meals to the hospital when my baby was admitted there. Fresh meals are delivered daily, with desserts and a beverage. Meals are enough for 2 people, sometimes more than enough. I love the broth soups that come daily - exactly how I imagined it to taste. Everyone I know have ordered from Chen mama after they gave birth. So when my confinement nanny(月嫂) fell through due to COVID, I desperately called them on my way home from the hospital and see if they could accommodate me starting the next day. The lady on the phone was very nice and helpful. Everything was set to start the next day after 10mins chatting on the phone. Food wise- I didn't have high hopes since confinement meals are known to be bland and full of soups. But the meals from Chen mama was delicious. It's not bland, portions are generous. Desserts are yummy, just the right amount of sweetness. These meals definitely took the stress off of thinking on what to eat daily. Price- since inflation, their price seems to be reasonable. It's obviously cheaper the more weeks you order. I would recommend this vendor to anyone who subscribes to the philosophy dictated by traditional Chinese Medicine for postpartum meals for a new mother. The food that is delivered is certainly different, with wholesome ingredients that allegedly help a new mother recover with adequate nutrients. Daily deliveries are made Mondays through Saturdays, with enough food for one day, but the Saturday delivery was for two days' worth of food. Typical breakfasts include eggs and congee. Lunch usually includes some type of soup, fish, and rice. Dinner is usually the same as lunch, but with different dishes. I was pretty impressed with the level of service that we received, but i just wish that there was more variety! There's so much food usually that I had to finish some of it, and you can bet I was sick of it by week 2 (wife ordered about 6 weeks' worth of food!). We ordered the meal set for 7 days. The food is not bad, but definitely not great. Definitely tastes more like home-cooking than typical restaurant quality food (less greasy, less salty), but we paid $100/day for probably $30 worth of food. Most of the meals were just soup made from chicken/pork bones, and a few herbs... not bad, but really just bones and water. Oh, and so much rice! Rice rice rice, every day! Bone water and rice for $100/day! Also, for this price, you'd hope for each meal to just be delivered fresh and warm throughout the day, but instead they just dump a big bag of food outside your doorsteps first thing in the morning and ring your bell a bunch of times before just running off. In Chinese custom, postpartum mothers follow a 30 day diet of nourishing foods to restore the mother's health. I am of Chinese origin and didn't have my mom with us when my baby was born. I thought I could make my own confinement food, but it was tough with a newborn. A friend found Chen Mommy's Kitchen and having my daily meals delivered to my doorstep was the best thing ever. Daily meals consist of breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. Portions are generous and can certainly feed more than just one person. A typical menu goes like this: Breakfast: eggs, congee Lunch: Rice, vegetables, soup with meat/fish, organs (liver the first week, kidney the second week) Dinner: Same as lunch, but different dishes Snacks: Chinese desserts like red bean soup There is a nice variety of chicken, pork, tofu, fish and shrimp. Veggies are really delicious. The food is consistently tasty and light (not greasy). The quality is evident, herbal soups boiled for a long time for maximum flavor and benefits; I just can't speak highly enough of their food. Meals are all cooked and heating up in the microwave is all that is required. I particularly commend them for great communication and trying hard to get our food delivered. We had to deal with bad weather and even a bout of gas rationing (and awful traffic), yet they got the meals delivered, sometimes three days' worth at once. They deliver to Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Jersey. Of note is that they are a Chinese business and it would be helpful if you speak Chinese.
