I love the Chelan Cafe. Diner food revolves around breakfast and they serve breakfast all the time. Except for dinner. And do you know why? Because they aren't open for dinner. At all. Ever. The Chelan is a diner which takes itself entirely seriously as a diner. There's no irony to the vinyl stools at the mid century modern counter top. None of the historical Seattle and nautically themed decorations scream I AM NOSTALGIC at you, because you are already at a historical landmark. If there's a poster for the 1986 Seattle Eats then the reason it's up there is because they put it there *to promote the event at the time*. Okay, the food: always solid, right in the middle-of-the-lane diner food. Two stand outs for me, both of which are specials: The BBIT (Best Breakfast In Town) is a scramble of everything good you can get as a side: scrambled eggs tossed with string hash browns, bacon, ham, sausage, and maybe even some other versions of pig. Maybe there are peppers and onions in there too? If so they are seasoning. It's delicious. I get it (nearly) every time I'm there. Just about the only time I don't get the BBIT is when the Prime Rib dip sandwich is available. This is a thickly sliced prime rib sandwich made out of the full-rib-roast leftovers from the prime rib lunch the day before. It's a jaw-dislocating pile of oven roasted beef on a toasted French bun with a side of au jus. Get it with tater tots instead of fries and ask for extra au jus. It's a remarkable sandwich, actually. Entire culinary empires have been built around sandwiches like this one. Also: bottomless coffee and good service. Sit at the counter or one of the three counter booths if you can.

chelan is always amazing genuinely. my favorite breakfast spot that has reliable food, fast service and a cozy place to meet for brunch/breakfast with friends!

Cute bar area great diner decor

This place has been on my list to check out for a while. I believe a good diner should have fun decor, great staff, great food, and reasonable prices Chelan Cafe has all four! My only complaint is I wish they had feta as a cheese option.

I swear I could eat those every single day if I could. The combo silog was awesome too because you get a little bit of everything, so it's perfect if you wanna try multiple Filipino breakfast staples in one plate. The whole place just felt super homey and comforting. Service was exactly what you'd expect visiting a Filipino household: warm, welcoming, and genuine. You really feel taken care of here.

You order at the front before being seated which means food arrives shortly after sitting down. With that noted, I wouldn't return to wait that long. First visit, to try a relatively famous spot, sure. Inside is a bit tight, but conversation can be had. My friends got the lumpia-silog and bistek-silog. Lumpia was tasty, but not particularly outstanding. Bistek was dry. The beef was tough to chew, seasoned alright on the outside but likely overcooked if not old. I opted for the oxtail silog which was delicious but pricey. Oxtail Silog - for $29, this plate definitely gets a double take. After waiting in the hour line, I figured I should commit for a tasty meal. Oxtail comes in a side bowl alongside a bit of hearty broth which the rice absorbs well. Meat is tender, falls off the bone, but pulling around oxtail bones isn't the simplest, so definitely have to bite around crevices. All in all, this plate was delicious but think it comes with a huge tourist tax I've had better value for oxtail plates. Ube Pancake Stack - four sizeable pancakes. Some pictures, including my own, don't do these justice. I can definitely get behind the hype. They're drenched in a rich ube sauce and there's plenty to go around. Honestly the ube flavor is present on the pancakes, but it feels relatively faint because the sauce is extremely sweet and flavorful, minimizing the pancake taste and expanding the gap between flavors. That being said, I think I would enjoy the pancakes with less sauce (or preferably, on the side).

This is…read moreparticularly the case after 3 AM, but that's where this cafe shines as the light in a sea of darkness, welcoming in people from around the city who just want sustenance after a night of mostly alcohol. It serves comfort food - classic breakfast diner items that can bring a person back from the dead. The eclectic fellows that inhabit this establishment in the wee hours of the morning come in all shapes and sizes, but they just have one goal - eat something greasy and satisfying. That's where this place delivers. I ended up here at slightly after 3 AM - and it was pretty packed. All the tables were full, and we were considering leaving after about ten minutes when one finally opened up. The servers are incredibly busy, and it took us about 15 minutes to actually get our order in. I got the cheese curds as my meal. These were easily the best cheese curds I've ever had. In Seattle, I've had a few instances of cheese curds that are relatively sad on the inside - they have a decent fry, but fail on the cheese aspect. That's absolutely not the case here. This cheese is amazing. It's the perfect level of squeakiness, and the stretch is unreal. It has a very unique flavor that you'll only find in cheese curds, that soft yet milk-like taste that's so addicting. It was melty, gooey, and hot inside. The taste was just pure heaven - I was shocked at how good these were. The fry on the outside is also so good. It's light yet so crispy; a beautiful golden brown that produces an amazing crunch when you eat it. Just phenomenal. The sauce provided with this was solid, but honestly I didn't even need it as the curds were amazing by itself. I tried some of the chicken fried steak as well. This was fine. The scrambled eggs were decent, but the hash browns felt a little limp and soggy. The steak itself was pretty average. The prices here aren't too bad either - my cheese curds were around $16, but the portion size was more than enough. Overall, this is a true late night classic that serves pretty great food as well. 8.75/10

The tenders were basically ones you buy in the freezer section at the grocery store. They provided a generous serving of fries and I didn't end up finishing them. I wouldn't order this again. Happy hour menu looked reasonably priced, so I might go back to check that out.

The photos on Yelp make it seem like a great brunch place, but do not be fooled. Their service is genuinely atrocious and I wish I had read the other reviews prior. Not only did my group (of 5) have to wait beyond their estimated 25-45 minute wait period and ended up waiting over an hour to be seated and an additional 45 minutes for food to come out after ordering, we were met with the most abominable treatment ever. The hostesses have nothing but hatred in their attitude and it makes me wonder why they even want a job at this point. The main hostess was giving my group dirty stank eyes because 40 minutes into waiting we decided to ask for an update and they responded with a snarky remark that our group was large and needed to wait. There were plenty of empty tables that could have been pushed together but they would only seat us at the booth seats, which they only had 2 tables for. They sat numerous other large groups before us as well, even though they came after us, but their groups were of White people rather than people of color. Coincidence? I think not. Later, I had asked a different hostess if they had a bathroom to which she stared at me and just said yes and then stopped responding. I had to prompt her to tell me where it was...like is this not common sense that I was asking where it was? The server himself was actually really great and kind, but it could not make up for the horrible treatment we received from the hostesses throughout the entire time, and I can't help but feel it was racially based as my group was all Asian and almost all other customers were White. The food itself wasn't the worst but it does not make up for the lack of service either. If I were the boss, I would remove the hostesses who are causing this lack of service to customers. It seems like I am not the only one who received poor treatment after reading other Yelpers reviews. It's insane to me that in this day and age, and especially in an area so close to Seattle, we can still experience these outdated and cruel treatments of racism and ignorance. Overall, I wish I could rate this place a 0/5, but Yelp simply doesn't allow that. I hope you guys think again before coming here to eat, unless you like being demeaned before a meal.

The French toast was perfect. It was crispy yet fluffy and soft. The whipped cream was really good and sweet. I only poured half of the syrup over my French toast. The candied walnuts added a crunch and sweetness. It was well balanced with all the fresh strawberry slices and blueberries. I really enjoyed it but couldn't finish, as the portion was generous. The bacon was tasty. The corned beef hash was made to order! Beef chunks with the most delicious pickled vegetables (asparagus, cabbage). My only feedback was that the potatoes could've been crispier. The biscuit was flavorful but quite dense. Overall, a solid entrée!

The patty was juicy and well-seasoned without being too salty. The other toppings like the bacon jam, bacon, lettuce, cheeses, etc complemented the sandwich well without overpowering anything. The grits were one of my favorites-- I can't seem to find lots of grits places in Seattle. With all of that being said, I will warn you that this sandwich is extremely messy so be prepared to clean up!
