Then I come here to Arcadia location which is the least favorite location due to attitude and how they serve their customers. - Food: The quality is not as good as before, the Pasadena location definitely better. But again this is the only reason I like to eat here, still better than other dimsum places! - Service: Absolutely not good! No smile, employee be standing and typing on the phone, I don't know if because our party isnt speaking Chinese or just how they were trained to have poker face, we've said thank you many times, they turn around with no emotions - Ambiance: Less busy than before, small restaurant. The dimsum was good but a little pricey. the Coconut Pudding that was shaped like a bunny was both pretty and delicious. They have the usual dimsum - chicken feet. Shrimp Har Gaw, Sio Maí. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but I felt compelled after a really disappointing experience at Chef Tony in Arcadia. To be fair, there were a couple of standout dishes -- the Fried Diced Beef Filet with Japanese BBQ Sauce was tender and flavorful, and the Sweet and Sour Pork hit all the right notes with its balance of crispiness and tang. Unfortunately, everything else about the experience fell short. The worst part was the Salted Shrimp dish (possibly listed as "Baked Prawns with Salt" on their menu). They completely forgot to bring it out. We asked about it twice after receiving the rest of our food, and still waited another 20 minutes. It never came -- so we asked to have it removed from the bill. Instead, they charged us anyway, and eventually brought it out in a plastic to-go container -- a sad, bland portion of boiled shrimp that tasted like an afterthought. No flavor, no presentation, just disappointing all around. Between the poor service, the miscommunication, and being charged for a dish we had long given up on, it left a really bad taste in my mouth (figuratively and literally). Tips: walk into the small podium stand. Put down the number of your party and write down your own number. No one will help you with that. Walking in around 10: 50 am. We got seated at 12. Food was decent, we really liked the taro dish. The shrimp rice rolls were soft and freshly made. The clay pot was missing a little "wok hei" and the portion was a bit small. My daughter tried the bunny pudding; they were super cute but not sure about the taste. The egg tarts were different; didn't realize they weren't the original version and came out oval shaped . The tripe dish was tender and flavorful and the har gow was pretty standard. Overall the service was good; we didn't have to wait too long for our food. It can get pretty busy though so prepare for a wait. The restaurant is located where Din Tai Fung used to be so I couldn't stop comparing the decor to the present restaurant . Sorry! Way overpriced dim sum but it's excepted bc of the name and we're in Arcadia. We were going to go to the Monterey Park location but opted for this one instead. This restaurant is on the smaller side. Plenty parking outside but shared with a lot of other establishments in the plaza so it can get pretty busy. It was a Friday afternoon and there was a waitlist with people waiting inside and outside. Once we got seated, none of the waiters even stopped by to check in on us. We filled out what we wanted and had to wave someone down. And now to the food: The shrimp rice noodle you can skip, they give a lot of pieces however, it's only one shrimp in one whole noodle which makes it a lot of noods and not enough shrimps. The ratio is off. The cauliflower dish was flavorful but oily, very oily. The spare ribs pieces were chunky and too big for one bite. Hard to separate the pieces too. I have never left a bad review on yelp for a restaurant business. However, after today's experience, I feel the need to warn other customers. My husband and I came to Chef Tony for the first time because we read online it was included on the online Michelin Guide for restaurants in LA. Even before the food was served, we noticed a few flies flying around the restaurant and going around tables that were already served food. As soon as our first dish was served, one or two flies started coming over. My husband and I didn't mind just brushed them away. But pretty soon..we were getting 3 or 4 that were flying and attempting to get into our food. One landed on my husband's water cup before we could get to it. And funny thing is a waitress happens to be at our table bringing out more dishes to our table, clearly saw the fly landing on the cup but did not say anything or offer us another cup. I know she saw because I saw her looked at the cup and moved the cup to the side. Basically our whole meal time was consumed with looking for flies that were trying to get to our food. Flies were landing on the booth bench...other table's food..or on other customers. At first, we asked for napkins to cover each dish so we wouldn't have to keep swatting our hands while we try to eat. Eventually, my husband and I ended up asking for to-go containers to at least be able to take some bites in peace knowing our food would be covered. Overall, very disappointed with the dining experience. So unless you're okay with swatting flies your whole meal, I don't recommend coming here. read more

THIS PLACE HAS CHANGED...Stopped coming a long time ago. Back then, at 8:15, it was last call and the help was eating at 8:30. The restaurant closes at 9 PM so it always thought that was wrong. The restaurant was never crowded and tried to sell a lot of expensive items on the menu. We eat a lot at the great sushi place next door and noticed there were more people coming here now. We tried it. I THINK THE CHANGE WAS A GOOD MOVE. WE ENJOYED IT. I noticed the sliced BBQ pork was different (see pictures) from the past and the menu changed for the good. Remember when dim sum in the SGV was affordable and fast? Not so much anymore. Lunch for 2 was $80. It was OK, waited a long time, the wood ear mushrooms should have landed on the table almost immediately as they are cold dishes. The server messed up our orders and we didn't get the soup dumplings we ordered.. but the way the trays are drop and go, it's almost not worth the time and effort to flag someone down to remedy the error. The shu mai was standard. Had to ask for the mustard and chili sauce. We had a couple other items that were meh, and unremarkable. I used to come to this location when it was Din Tai Fung, and Chef Tony's when it was in Old Town Pasadena. At least in the art deco building you felt like you were paying for the ambiance. The salted duck egg buns are so super good. I came here just for that cause it looks so different from your traditional dim sum buns. It was so unique and the flavor was rich, creamy, salty, and sweet. It was steamed to perfection. I would say the black truffle chicken, as well as the shrimp paste infused Chinese do unit and the duck yolk custard buns are the must here. Service is typical for dim sum restaurants. Price is high, but appropriate for the quality and consistency imo. This caters to a different audience than traditional dim sum shops, but still preserves the flavor of most staple dishes, such as the chicken feet, the hai gao and the custard buns. Walking distance from my son's townhome - that's dangerous when you have a Cantonese and Dim Dum restaurant, Chinese bakery, and dessert shop all in one nearby strip mall. Chef Tony, originating out of Asia then opening restaurants in Canada and the US, is on the higher end of the price spectrum for dim sum restaurants. They have dim sum items with gold flakes, squid ink, black truffles, elaborate soups, in addition to traditional items that you're used to at all dim sum establishments. We arrived early at this modern looking restaurant that used to be a Din Tai Fung; Still has the large glass windows looking into the prep and steamer room as you walk in. Furniture is modern and the walls are sporadically decorated with pictures of Chef Tony with VIPs and large plate glass windows allowing for plenty of natural light from the parking lot. The two of us shared eight items: - Chicken Feet (bland but properly cooked to the point that all digits easily separated - just spice it up more) - Black Truffle Siu Mai (Good taste, meaty..would love more Black Truffle) - Squid Ink Scallop Dumpling with XO Sauce ( spicy good) - Fried Taro Cake (different and not one of our favorites) - Fried Meat Dumpling (crispy, chewy, and a good amount of meat filling, liked this) - Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf (good version, tasty, no lost rice as it all came off of the leaf) - French Crusted Baked Pork Bun (another good version, flaky outer layer, soft puffy bun, good amount of tasty filling) - Milk Bun (soft puffy bun with runny eggy filling, wanted more of a milky filling) Overall, we had decent unbothering service, clean amenities, decent food, and everything came out HOT as it should be. Overall impression of the food was that it was just okay. A little "cheffy" for my tastes as I prefer the more classic. Shumai with black truffle - the truffle is unnecessary and doesn't add any flavor. The har gow was a good version of itself and unadorned, as were the spare ribs, shrimp roll and spring rolls. Less successful were the baked char siu bao and the chicken with special sauce, which was a ginger flavor bomb and served cold. The seafood chow mein was also a decent version of the dish. Other dim sum we tried were just okay. The restaurant is not huge and the decor pretty minimalist, but it was clean and pleasant. I walked in and asked for a table of four on a Saturday right before 2pm. We were seated within 5 minutes. I'm familiar with this restaurant layout since this was DTF's old location. Here's what I ordered: Savory deep fried chinese donut Shrimp dumpling Shrimp and pork dumpling with black truffle Steamed bbq pork bun Steamed chicken feet with brown sauce Squid ink scallop dumpling with xo sauce Rice noodle roll with shrimp Pan fried taro cake Wok fried radish cake with xo sauce Deep fried shrimp spring roll Hot tea Iced milk tea They forgot to bring out Fried Rice with Dried Scallop and Egg White so I did not get to try this. I'd love to try this next time! Overall I thought everything was delicious and they were all hot right out of the kitchen. Some dishes are pricey. In terms of service, everyone looked exhausted and there is no enthusiasm in customer service. Servers will stop by, give you items and leave. They were not rude though. Yes, this place gets quite busy and its not very large inside. Its loud and bustling on the weekend, as to be expected. The food was very fresh and good. It was not frozen (like some other dim sum places) My favorite was the egg white egg tarts. These are hard to find now. YUMMY! I want to come back and try more dishes. Try coming during the week if you don't want to deal with waiting. Pretty large shared parking lot, and if the wait is long, you can get a snack from the neighboring establishments. ;) read more

I have only tried this place once before since it opened but only a few dishes that were brought back home as leftovers so really didn't taste the food fresh out of the kitchen. However, I was able to come here recently for the first time dining in. We got there around 10:30am on a Sunday. The crowd didn't seem too big when I parked. Ended up waiting for about 20-30 mins for a party of 3. Finally got seated and didn't have to wait too long for our food. Ended up ordering a few dishes - juicy pork dumplings, shrimp and pork dumplings with black truffle, chicken feet, salted egg yok bun, milky bun, and a few others. I'd say a bit pricey for dim sum but this is considered a more high-end dim sum place. Does it taste high end? Besides the special black truffle, taste is pretty on par with other dim sum restaurants. Other places taste pretty similar at half the price. However, I can dishes like the chicken feet was pretty good and one of the better ones I've had. For the siu mai (shrimp and pork dumplings), it's a bit different with the truffle on top. I think it can do without it. Either way, Chef Tony isn't too bad to have dim sum here. Service was good and the place was well decorated. I would come again. read more

Alright I hate to have to write such a low star review to this restaurant but the store manager at this location seriously needs to be looked at. We come here often, and for the most part everything is good. Their food is good, the rest of the staff are nice. However, this manager.. my gosh, this is probably about the 4th time where we encountered him being just so unpleasant to our party. My sister waived at him to come over because we have been sitting there for a while and was never acknowledged. The manager then proceeds to come to our table looking irritated and had the nastiest attitude towards our group. He gave my sister almost like a disgusted look. I have brought other people here as well and every single time this manager is so rude. Like he doesn't wanna be there or just doesn't want to serve us specifically. Now here's the kicker, we observed him being cordial and pleasant with other Chinese customers. I can't help but think, is he rude to us because we're not Chinese?? hmm... It's quite disappointing to have a good restaurant but have a manager like that run your restaurant. It seriously brings your quality down. The last visit we had just put a bad taste in our mouths and sadly we won't be returning here nor will I be recommending your restaurant to anyone else. Located in a small plaza with a small parking lot! This is more of a high quality and classy dim sum so expect prices to be a lot more higher than the usual dim sum spots. Some notable mentions were the egg yolk bun! One of the best egg yolk buns I've had around 626 area. Egg yolk was perfectly made, runny yolk and not over cooked or dried up. The rice noodle roll with shrimp had a very smooth and soft skin. Love the texture and not too thick. Overall this is a nice spot to go if you're feeling some high quality dim sum. read more

Any place with all day dim sum makes me happy. The restaurant is located where old ding tai fung used to be so the kitchen is see through glass like before. Decor of the restaurant is cozy. I love their heat lamp thing for the tea pot. Been there twice. Service was good. First time was during lunch time. Second time was at dinner. At night there are limited dim sum choices.
