I tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday and it was fantastic. The traditional Turkish decor and styling gave this place a very relaxing and comfortable ambiance. The food was excellent. The lamb chops were the best I've ever had. Of course, the friendly service from the wait staff was very pleasing. read more

Pablo wanted Lamb for birthday lunch. We headed out from King William in an Uber and it was a long way. It's a small restaurants in a strip and was pretty full with steady business around 2.30pm. We had the mixed Mixed appetizer starter (4 cold choices). Dolma, Lebna, a beetroot thing and muammarra. They were all lick the plate good and we wanted more. Lamb Shank followed and was a little small but the sauce delicious. Lamb Kebab a little undercooked for my taste as I like it charred but still tasty. Turkish coffee rounded us off. I think we spent about $80 all in. A little on the high side but heck it was what we wanted . read more

Had heard great things about this restaurant and tried it when we were in the area. We got pida and dip and shared the mixed plate among three people and boy was it a lot of food! The staff was very friendly and would explain if you have any questions. read more

Great place for a lunch. I had the house salad with gyro meat added, but the meat was a bit chewy and fatty for my taste. The lentil soup was a standout, it reminded me a little of Campbell bean and bacon soup. I grew up with that, so it rang my bell. The complentary bread was amazing, toasted sesame seeds really shine. The accompanying dip is a bold roasted pepper, mildly spicy, and oil based, aaaand is divine! The vibe is very Turkish, a humble cafe. Comfy padded chairs are appreciated and the tables are made with love. Service was a bit slow, but she was by herself on a Saturday. Limited Drink options, I would have liked to see an iced mint tea or other cold, icy homemade beverage. Asking for a glass of tap water and they will push for the bottled water, unfortunately. read more

I came here for a birthday lunch with my family and everything was just perfect. Even though it's in a strip mall, you don't get those vibes once you're inside. It's full of beautiful lamps and art. Our waiter was so nice and attentive even though he was taking care of a full restaurant of patrons. They bring out warm complimentary bread ahead of your meal that's absolutely incredible. For our entrees, my husband and daughter got gyros after seeing that juicy meat cut off the spit. I got the mixed grill so I could try a little of everything and it was all quite delicious. read more

Really loved this place. It is sort of a hole in the wall kind of place with excellent food and service. Our server was Payroz (I hope I got that right). It felt like I was in a different country while dining here. The first thing we try is the bread with this reddish dipping sauce. The bread was amazing. If the bread is that good, you know everything else will be as well. Next was the babaganoush. I was not crazy about it. It is made differently than I am used to. My son loved it though. I had the Kofte which is the best kofte I have ever had including when I make it myself. It came with rice, salad and a roasted tomato. The ingredients were so fresh! How do you determine the ingredients are fresh? Not sure but you can just tell. For example, the lettuce was so good. How many times can you say that? My son got the lamb shank which was beautifully presented. My dish was also beautifully presented. The lamb shank was prepared to perfection! The treat for us was the Turkish coffee which I have not had in a long time. Dessert was Künefe which was amazing. I think the prices were very fair. read more

The food was delicious! One of my favorite Mediterranean places. The service is decent, and the vibe with the chandeliers transports me to a little restaurant in Turkey. They bring out a bread basket with some dips to start you off. My go to is the chicken dinner/gyro, very yum and *moist*. The wraps are also great. They have a special salt encrusted lamb shoulder set that can easily feed 5 people with leftovers, just make sure to order a day in advance and arrive on an empty stomach! read more

Finally stopped in to this little restaurant that always looks busy and smells good even from the outside! Fresh bread and tomato & eggplant? dipping sauce is delivered first thing to our table. On a rainy day I was very happy to see lentil soup on the menu. I ordered the small which is perfect for one person and delicious- flavorful blended lentils with a bright touch of lemon. The falafel appetizer contains 4 patties and bottled water is served instead of tap. With an appetizer or soup, the entrees are the perfect portion for two people to split. All the food was served piping hot and very fresh. FYI Wraps are only served Monday-Friday, not on the weekends. The staff were all very kind and I loved the decor. There is another San Antonio location and also some in Houston. Will go back again, especially for soup. read more

Starting off the meal, the bread with the red muammara dip was delicious. It is composed of red peppers, Chile flakes, and molasses. It tasted like a tangy sweet marinara. We decided to try the crispy filo rolls. They were served to us without the dipping sauce that they are supposed to come with. They were very plain on their own and it took about 15 minutes to flag someone down to get some of the sauce. I ordered the chicken tava and it really just tasted like chicken with tomato sauce. It didn't have a whole lot of flavor or seasoning. It was also served to me slightly warm, as though it had been sitting around long enough to mostly cool down. read more

What a feast! Cute atmosphere. Service was ok. The one server attending to the entire place did seem to need some help and was stretched a bit thin IMO. Now to the good details! The Turkish coffee is so good. Extra strong, but good. Had two of those sweet little baby cups! Don't take the last drink. Unless you want a mouth full of coffee sludge. It's a little much for me. Started with pick 3 appetizers. Doner pizza, hummus, abc two other dips I can't remember what they were called. Lots of pita bread needed & the was soft, fresh & delicious. Mixed grill for one was plenty of food for multiple people. Then again, we'd consumed most of the appetizers at this point. Everything was scrumptious! Fresh, delicious goodness! Dessert, which I thought I snapped a picture of? Was a different yet delicious treat. Recommended by the server, a "nest" of sweet decadence. Apparently it needed a little time to be made, as it was recommended before we finished our meal. That was paired with the second cup of coffee. Perfect ending to a delightful meal. I'd definitely come back to this spot to try more! read more

So we came to try this place out because the food looked fantastic and the reviews were good. My wife has never had a gyro or a shawarma wrap so I figure they would do it right here. They only offer the dish for lunch the server said so I said I'd pay for the dinner option to be made into the wrap. It was more expensive as well but who cares? He agreed and out came just a plate of gyro meat and a plate of shawarma meat. No bread. We definitely agreed on the sandwiches and I told him again and he just looked at me like I was in the wrong. He still wouldn't bring out bread but it's fine. We ate and I paid. Also it's very over priced. read more

Chef’s Table - Mixed Grill for 2 ($52.99) - Mediterranean Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

It's good, I'd say ambiance is amazing for being small. The service is okay but good. Food is mixed. Fried calamari was very oily and a strong pass. The mixed grill plate was mixed. The salad was amazing and the shredded meat was good but the chunks of beef was very dry and not tender at all. I feel maybe I got them on a bad day. Salads and greens were next level good. Bread and dip they give for free is also very good. I'd recommend but it's not a 5/5 for me yet read more

My husband and I were craving Mediterranean food and decided on this place. Some things were great. 1. Nice atmosphere. Pretty lights (though our table was so dark, and the menus are black, so it was hard to read the menu). 2. Pleasant and attentive waiter. 3. Delicious hummus. Perfectly creamy and garlicky. 4. The beet and yogurt cold appetizer was good. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience though. 1. So cold. I am hot natured but luckily wore a sweater just in case it was cold, and it was still too cold for me. 2. I asked for no ice in my water bc I was so cold. But the waiter brought a cold bottled water. I try to not do one-use plastics, and there was no way I was drinking cold water while I was shivering, so I sent it back. 3. Dolmas were hard and cold. I prefer mine soft and room temperature. 4. Baba ganoush, which I usually love, was not to my liking. Slimy and chunky. 5. The main dish we picked out to share, Iskender Kebab. I was expecting grilled meat. And, to be honest, it's our fault for not realizing exactly what it is. We are super adventurous eaters and like almost everything, but we did not like the dish. It was very thin, overcooked strings of supposedly beef and lamb (though we couldn't find any lamb, even on closer inspection of leftovers). The meat was on top of crusty bread cubes, with a savory tomato sauce over it. Picture a spaghetti, where, instead of pasta, there's bread that is both soggy and crispy and stringy meat. If the meat had any flavor, it was overpowered by the tomato sauce. The combination was an unpleasant mouth feel and taste. 5. The bread they served before the meal was ok, but it was served with a vinegary hot sauce that seemed like it came from a bottle. I would have liked it in a wrap, on top of meat. But as a pre-meal dip in such a cold atmosphere, it was rather unpleasant. I'm rating the restaurant much higher than my experience actually was. Mainly because they have promise, I think we ordered the wrong main dish, and because the hummus was stellar. I don't think I would return, but I would get hummus to go. read more

It wasn't bad but not as flavorful as other Mediterranean type restaurants. If you want meat taste and no seasoning that's what you can expect. I tried the mixed grill to try all meat offerings. Meat kebabs are on the tough side. There was a sauce that was put out with the bread that went well with the meat - gave it some flavor. Overall it was mediocre. The presentation was pretty though. The fried calamari was excellently done. If I go back I'd probably just try the appetizers and make that my meal. The place is cozy and the bakery next door Turkish treats displayed looked so yummy! I bought 3 different baklavas to try - I'm hoping it will end the evening better. read more

Have heard so much about @chefstable.satx and thought to find out for ourselves how it is. There are only 2 tables outside and we're thankful to have gotten one of them. I spoke with Jack on the phone and he also ended up serving us. Excellent service! The complimentary bread is the best. I ate it with the complimentary dip and also enjoyed it with the mixed appetizer plate. We had the hummus, baba ganoush, cacik and dolma. Dad and I shared the Lamb Shank. The meat was very tender but the sauce was on the salty side. My husband had the Lamb & Beef Doner. He felt that the meat was a bit dry. Jack gave us the Turkish salad on the house to try. It was very good and plenty enough for us to take home. We tried the Baklava and it was different from ones I've had before. A bit more dense it seems. We didn't know that we needed to call ahead for the Grilled Branzino. Next time, we'll have to try it. Chef's Table is on the AAPI Heritage Month Passport so we got the 10% off and the stamp. Chef’s Table - Lamb and chicken and meat - Mediterranean Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

The Chef''s Table Our first foodie club experience. While we are still mulling over our club name, we are definitely in agreement, however, that we were all in for this Mediterranean cuisine. It's tucked in the midst of a mini strip. I love the ambiance of colorful plates and chandeliers. The Chef statute caught two of us by surprise because in your peripheral vision, it feels like someone is constantly staring at you, making it awkward until you realize it's just not a real person. The staff, while attentive, was not pushy or invasive. Our waiter was knowledgeable and welcoming. Bring your appetite, people. You are in for a treat. MUSTs: The mixed appetizer sampler: Hummus (mashed chickpeas), dolma (stuffed grape leaves), babaganoush (charred eggplant and garlic based), muammara (roasted red bell pepper walnut dip). I had never tried the muammara. It's so good you may find yourself singing: "When I dip, you dip; we dip." The chicken doner pide was like a savory pizza. We added the spicy dipping sauce for that perfect bite. The dipping sauce is served with warm and perfectly made bread basket. The mixed grilled plate for two was the way to go. It's a shareable portion of meats and more than enough for three. My favorites were the kofte, pide, dolma, and Turkish coffee. The latter of which makes me realize how big my hands are because it's served in such tiny ceramic espresso cups. There was so much food that I got to take the leftovers for lunch. It did not go to waste. Happy tummy; happy life. If you are in for a unique, savory adventure, give this hidden gem a try. Chef's Table will leave you wanting to return. FYI: It is a BYOB restaurant. read more

Great find by Medical Center! Our daughter told us about this great Turkish Mediterranean Cafe near Medical Center. Chef's Table Turkish Mediterranean Grill. The opportunity to grab lunch came up and we jumped on it. The location is just north of 410 on Babcock, next to Starbucks @ 1546 Babcock Rd #102, San Antonio, TX 78229 We found parking right in front of Chef's Table Turkish Mediterranean Grill. It's in a small little retail group of shops and when we walked in, I immediately got the feel of an authentic, eclectic middle Eastern Cafe. We were greeted quickly and seated at a table in their relatively small dining area. The young server was very attentive and polite. Like many authentic Mediterranean spots, they didn't offer alcohol on the menu. The menu was great with new selections I wasn't familiar with but sounded fantastic The first thing on the menu was their Lentil Soup and it definitely earned the top billing! This was followed by classic starters like Babaganoush and Hummus. I all ready have decided what I'm going to order on my next three visits. I started with the Lentil soup and Babaganoush and they seriously were the best I've ever had... Absolutely seasoned to perfection. For my main course I ordered Lamb & Beef Doner with rice and Salad. It was fantastic. This is the kind of culinary find that you have to tell your friends and family about. Prices were good and for three of us for everything it was under $70. If you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine, you owe it to yourself to plan a lunch or dinner at Chef's Table Turkish Mediterranean Grill. They have a new regular customer... I am already planning my next visit. read more

Have you ever been so moved by a meal at a restaurant that you just have to find out who is responsible for such a place? The person behind it all? I instantly googled Chef's Table to learn as much as I could because it was just that incredible and I could not stop talking or thinking about it! They start you out with delicious bread and a red pepper relish that gives you a preview of the flavors that are to follow. I would have been happy just eating this. We tried the hummus and it was bright, rich and oh so creamy. It was topped with some shaved cucumber which made for a nice presentation. We couldn't stop sopping it up with the bread. We shared the mix grill and WOW. Every piece of meat was carefully seasoned and grilled to perfection. My husband loved the kofte and my favorite was the doner. The plate comes beautifully stuffed with rice, salad, meats and grilled tomatoes and peppers. It was bursting at the seams and quite the feast. It generously fed the two of us with leftovers for the next day. I slathered some of the red pepper relish on the meats and my husband followed suit. The ambiance is well executed and I felt transported to Turkey with the thoughtful details, including the music and light fixtures. It was nice to hear chopping and dicing of vegetables while we waited for our food. If you ask for water, expect to pay for a bottled one. After I tasted the food, I didn't care one bit about that. I am obsessed with this place and applaud the owner for capturing an authentic experience. read more

Great ambience. Great service. Food was very good. Tasted like home cooking. Baba ganouj was delish. My wife recommends the beef stew (tava). I had the beef and lamb doner. It was decent but I would try something different next time. Meat was thin sliced and a bit dry. Could have used a sauce. Tastes more like beef than lamb. Would def. Go again to try more. Some very interesting items on the menu that I will try next time, but because I kind of knew what we wanted I went with the lamb kebab and the chicken kebab plates. Both were season really well and quite tasty. The bread is outstanding! Couple that with the hummus which is just plain delicious and you have an extremely good meal.
