    Crispy Summer Roll
    Allen L.

This was my last meal in NY before heading home to CA. The Bun Bo Hue was good, I asked for it extra spicy but it wasn't. Their version was somewhat traditional with a heavier shrimp paste flavor but still a bit too Americanized for me. It doesn't have pork blood and came with the same accoutrements as pho, no cabbage. Crispy Summer Rolls was tasty but a little skimpy for the price. I was expecting to be a bit more wowed based on reviews but overall was still an enjoyable meal!

I like this place! It's quite small (maybe room for 30 people), but it wasn't too crowded when we went. Staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered mostly pho, which was really good. I'd recommend the Signature, as it's only $16 and quite delicious; they don't skimp on meat which is nice. The shortrib pho is the best tasting, but it's $25, so it's not the best deal. Personally, I'd come back for the leek pancake. It's almost mochi-like, but comes out steaming hot with dipping sauce. So so good! At only $10, it was excellent value. I'd def come again, or visit their new location (this one is the original).

Found this place on Yelp and came here for early dinner. This place is small and it gets full really quickly especially during dinner. For appetizers we got the fried salt and pepper squid and crispy wings. The salt and pepper squid was crispy and flavorful. The crispy wings were pretty good especially with the homemade sauce. I really enjoyed the bbq pork vermicelli. The pork was flavorful and I liked the combination of food in this dish. The pho was also good but the short rib was a little tough and dry. We could've done it without the short rib.

It's my second visit at this location. Staff is always friendly and quick to take your order. I really enjoy the chive pancakes and the Pho. Classic beef brisket, tendon and beef round pieces. The broth is great- not too salty and has that nice bone broth finish. The noodles are very good as far as texture and it's cooked just right. My friends like to order the truffle fries, guilty pleasure. And I like ordering the hot tea with my meal. It's good for digestion and they give you a small tea pot that yields over 6-8 cups of tea. Great for sharing. I've always over ordered so I've never had the desserts. Next time! I've also done take out and the go to besides the Pho are the grilled pork chops over rice. Two generous chops, grilled to perfection. Has grill marks and the fish sauce accompaniment is delicious. Totally recommend.

The food was great! Came here for dinner with my friends and had a good time. We ordered pho and the grilled pork chop over rice, along with a few appetizers, and everything was satisfying. Although, the fried salt and pepper squid could be a bit crispier, and it would've been nice if it came with a dipping sauce since it was a little bland on its own. My friends got thai iced tea, and I ordered a lychee thai tea. The staff were super nice and patient, didn't rush us to finish our food. Overall, great food and warm service. Would definitely come back or check out their LIC location.

This place is a gem among a street of cafés and mainly Korean restaurants. I come here a few times a month for takeaway if I have dance class down the road. I was first introduced to Chef Papa years ago through a Yelp Elite perk, but I have come back as a regular throughout the years. They consistently make bomb Bahn-mi's and authentic pho, but all of their classic menu offerings are fire. The Bahn-mi's are stuffed with pickled shredded carrots, fresh herbs & veggies, and a choice selection of meats. Personally, my favs range from the classic house special to smokey grilled pork chop to fragrant lemongrass chicken, but you can't go wrong with any of them. The crusty bread and fresh ingredients makes everything taste really authentic (in fact, I attest to housing this behind the wheel... I couldn't even wait til I got home!) The classic pho comes with a broth that is rich, deeply aromatic, earthy, with fresh herbs, poured over perfectly cooked chewy noodles topped with tender meat & tendons. It's one of those broths that lingers for a while and you can't wait to have again. I can't forget to rave about their shrimp summer rolls: super fresh and light -- definitely best eaten right away while the rice paper is still soft and everything inside tastes crisp. For $7, this can make for a mini- lunch or hearty snack to you tie you over between meals. The peanut sauce on the side is the perfect accompaniment to bring everything together. While the above three are my regular goto favs, on my most recent visit, I ordered the Bun Bo Hue and the grilled pork chop vermicelli -- both were seriously good. The Bun Bo Hue had a really rich, flavorful broth with just the right amount of spice. Even though I ordered it mild, it still had a significant kick (so fair warning to those who cannot handle spicy). Hubby ended up devouring that one. The hearty broth was simmered properly as noted by that deep, comforting flavor. The grilled pork chop vermicelli was just as solid. The pork was juicy and nicely charred, with a slightly smoky sweetness that paired really well with the fresh herbs and pickled veggies. The chewy noodle underneath soaked up all the collective juices. The portion size was generous that I had enough for lunch the next day. Overall, it's a great spot if you're craving authentic, comforting Vietnamese food. Friendly and fast service too. Pro tip: 3% discount if you pay in cash. Everything I've tried over the years has tasted balanced and fresh. I'll definitely keep coming back to try more from the menu!

Order: - Chicken Pho (4/5) - Beef Pho (4/5) - Beef Summer Roll (4/5) Pros: - Great tasting food - Large portions - Classic Vietnamese options - Quick service Cons: - Marinade for the chicken of the chicken pho was a bit too sweet Overall: Great pho spot and will definitely be back

Excellent signature pho. Hot Vietnamese coffee is perfect for the cold weather. Sugar cane juice is sweet. Love the bone marrow additions! Service is excellent. It can get crowded so if you need a table for more than 2, go early or get the wait time.

This place is adorable and quaint. Come off peak hours to grab a seat for a larger group because the place is popular. Service is polite and quick. Ordered a few things to try and the winner was the pho. The pho is light but the broth is flavorful and exactly what you want with meat to noodle ratio. The reason for the rating is everything else. We had the pork chop over rice, chicken wings and sandwich. All delicious in flavor but seriously sweet. It was tough for my palette to digest the sweetness in every bite for these meals. Perhaps it was just a heavy hand this time or the marinade was just off this time. Willing to try it again just for the broth and attempt the sandwich again.

I came here with a girlfriend yesterday after hearing about the social media drama tied to this place. We came on a Saturday for lunch and were seated immediately - the restaurant had ample seating for about 8-10 parties! We started with the Thai iced tea, and also got the veg spring rolls as an app, and they were good, standard Vietnamese spring rolls! Thai tea was also good, but standard! For mains we ordered the signature pho and lemongrass chicken. The pho broth was sensational but the beef felt a little overcooked to me. I would order just the broth and noodles next time w no meat! The lemongrass chicken was also good, chicken was so flavourful but felt like the platter itself was missing something. Overall, delicious meal, great for cold days. I soooo disagree with the horrendous review from the social media influencer, this place is a little hole in the wall and has good food! Plus points for clean bathroom, but the parking situation is a little bit of a nightmare!

We came here for dinner on a weeknight and were glad we found this place. The food tasted delicious and was very filling. The waitresses were friendly and efficient. The restaurant was small, but still had plenty of tables. I would return.

    Delivery packaged drink

I've eaten in person multiple times before, but this is for a delivery order. The service is usually attentive. They have hoisin and sriracha on every table, as well as a QR code for an online menu. I normally get a Regular Pho, but was in the mood for something different. The Bon Bo Hue had a great balance of sour and spicy, and you can definitely taste the shrimp paste. It smelled so fragrant. The noodles had a good chew to them. However, the meats were a bit overdone, especially the beef, which I didn't finish. This could be due to it being delivery, but was a bit disappointed since their meats (especially the over rice or vermicelli dishes) are usually cooked well. The Salted Lemon Drink was packaged securely. Flavor wise, it reminded me of Umeboshi, there's actual salted lemons in the drink! Overall, a decent spot to hit. Just be sure to pick and choose what you order if you're getting delivery.

Limited seating so be prepared to wait ~30 mins, especially on a rainy day when everyone wants pho! The Lemongrass Beef Banh Mi was actually very filling with generous portion of beef - the picture is misleading cause there is more pickled carrots but believe that the beef is tender, juicy, flavorful and plentiful! We also enjoyed the Vietnamese Pancake, which was also loaded inside - I particularly enjoyed the mung beans, which I've never had in a Bahn Xeo but it added this nuttiness and savory taste I enjoyed.

I can't believe I never wrote a review for Pho Che after dining here multiple times over the years…read more I have been a huge fan of their pho broth and their grilled pork chops. They are both always seasoned very well and make a delicious meal. However, the price seems to have increased tremendously for the side of pork chop (almost doubled since they first opened). We opted to try their spicy pho and BBQ pork banh mi on a Saturday. The entire restaurant was packed with plenty of diners waiting for a table. Our food came out quickly and we were able to share our pho with an extra bowl. The spicy broth was indeed spicy and pretty flavorful. There was plenty of meat and aromatics to accompany the dish. I really enjoyed the dish but towards the end, it was just a bit too spicy. The large bowl also had plenty of noodles for two people. The bbq pork banh mi was not as great as other shops that specialize in freshly made banh mi. The pork was seasoned well but the sandwich felt a bit bare and lacking. Overall, I do love supporting Pho Che as my local pho spot and hope they continue to serve amazing food.

Mekong at the end of the strip closed a while ago, so a new Vietnamese place fits right in. They spent a good amount for the interior décor in light wood tones and it looks nice. With all the new and popular businesses in this HMart strip mall, the parking situation in this lot is cutthroat with everybody jockeying to get a space at all hours, but even worse at meal times. For new Vietnamese restaurants, I always have to compare their biggest beef pho bowl, the Locomotive 火車頭. Why it's called that, I'm not sure, but most places call it that. The broth comes hot and flavorful with plenty of Brisket, Tripe, Tendon & Eye Round slices and though not the biggest or best, but pretty decent. Garnish with plenty of bean sprouts, basil and jalapeño slices while the broth is hot. The thin rice noodles are just the right consistency, too. I like to mix a dipping sauce for the beef with the hot sauce & hoisin sauce on the table. My son goes for the Grilled Pork w/ Vermicelli Blankets because not all Vietnamese restaurants have it on their menus. He likes to wrap the grilled sliced marinated pork in the vermicelli blankets and dip them in the fish sauce. It also comes on a bed of greens. My wife had ordered the Grilled Beef on Rice Vermicelli, which is sliced, but what she really wanted was the Marinated Cubed Beef and that comes over rice. To round out the meal, we also had a plate of Stir-fried Baby Bok Choy and it was really tasty with plenty of sliced garlic. So next time we'll have to try again, but we'll order a la carte family style. I want to try the Grilled Lemongrass Pork Chops, Salt & Pepper Squid, Stir-fried Water Spinach and maybe throw in some Shrimp Summer Rolls and Fried Spring Rolls. Apparently, this Pho Grand also has a separate buffet takeout counter that you can select 4 dishes over rice & a soup for a flat rate, which is great for a grab & go lunch.

This place feels like a hidden gem you almost want to keep secret... but it's just too good not to share. What makes Pho Metro stand out right away is how authentic it feels. You can tell this is truly a labor of love. One guy runs the show and somehow manages to do it all, from cooking to serving, and the care he puts into the food absolutely shows in every single bite. It has that comforting, homemade quality that makes you feel like you've stepped into a small family kitchen rather than just another restaurant. The food itself is outstanding. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, from the herbs to the broth. I highly recommend the thin noodles with the spicy lemongrass broth (you can request this if it's not listed). It's bursting with flavor, slightly tangy, perfectly spicy, and deeply savory in a way that warms you from the inside out. Every spoonful feels like a cozy blanket on a cold day. The summer rolls are another must-order. They're fresh, light, and packed with flavor, and the peanut sauce that comes with them is absolutely delicious. It's rich, savory, and addictive enough that you'll find yourself scraping the cup to get every last drop. Another detail I really appreciated is how everything you need is right at your fingertips. All the sauces are readily available at the table, so you can customize your bowl exactly how you like it without having to ask or wait. The summer rolls and calamari were good, you could taste the freshness of the veggies and shrimp. I wish the calamari had been a bit crispier and seasoned with a touch more salt and pepper, but it was still very good. The real reason I'll be coming back is the pho broth. I do enjoy the fact that you can order specific portions of the appetizers. Summer rolls was a bit confusing without the typical sauce but honestly it was great on its own. Pho itself was good and probably better than most pho offered in the area. I don't think I'll have dreams about it but it's reliable and hits the spot on a cold day. Staff here is also very very sweet and attentive; would come back to see them honestly.

On our last visit, we decided to go all out and order everything we wanted to try (aside from the signature pho, which we had the first time). The appetizer were quite pricey - 2 pieces of beef mushroom roll for $5 and 1 gaibi (braised beef rib) for $11. The gaibi was dry and hard to eat on the bone even though they provided gloves and a knife. The pork chop as a side was $15 for 2 pieces and also on the dryer side. It was seasoned well but I really wished it was juicier. My favorite part of the meal was the smoky beef bun cha platter. The beef was thinly sliced and tasted sweet like bulgogi. The noodles were served with a cold dipping sauce, which contains fish sauce. I enjoyed the noodles but wished they were easier to separate. Lastly, the spicy intestine pho was my least favorite. I personally do not like small intestines so it was not the dish for me. The soup was not very spicy and tasted like the offals. Overall, this is not a classic Vietnamese restaurant so you'll be disappointed if that's what you're expecting. I'd recommend coming here if you are looking for a Korean twist on Vietnamese food.

( https://www.instagram.com/p/DQF8Gzekcks/ ). It is a shame because, besides myself, I know a few people that aren't in the neighborhood that travel regularly to G&L. Also its surprising because every time I go the place is pretty packed and occasionally there is a wait. What's also a shame, for me, is that on my recent visit my friend ordered the Steamed Seafood in Lemongrass and this is perhaps the top, or one of the top dishes on the menu. The seafood flavors and balances the slightly spicy lemongrass broth making this a crave worthy bowl. I ordered something out of my wheelhouse - the Coconut Spicy Lemongrass Soup, which on online order menu states its a popular dish. I couldn't see why this dish is so popular because I find other items on the menu superior. They make a tasty pho (especially when paired with a marrow bone). Their sandwiches are well made - I enjoy the different fish ones. I think their Vietnamese coffee could use some work - it is blander than other versions I had tried. Don't be too sad and maybe feel a little optimistic because owner Petra Rickman has a great track record opening interesting, in demand restaurants (This one and Taco Azul have been longtime go-tos in Whitestone). Additionally G&L has a 2nd location with the same menu in Manhattan, which unfortunately for a Queens boy like myself is a bridge too far and a congestion pricing too high for me to make the trek.
