Apparently it's possible to have a five star fast food Chinese place in Rowlett, Texas! We regularly order to-go food for a very large extended family. It would be Soooo easy for them to screw it up, but they simply refuse to do so. Every special request, every minor detail, every side dish, every sauce- packaged up and ready as promised! It's amazing! They are literally the only restaurant in Rowlett that has never screwed up my takeout order. The vegetables are always fresh, the sauces are delicious, the meats are juicy. Just called and spoke to Jay over the phone. he has been so helpful. Very patient with answering all my questions. I ordered Meat Dumplings Fried and Steamed, General Tsao's Chicken, Cathay Combo, Dan Dan Noodle Bowl Chicken, Dan Dan Noodle Bowl Scallops, and Beef Pepper Steak. Awaiting it's arrival for delivery. Delivered by Colton! very sweet helped me with the door. Very polite and respectful! Ok. So I'm going to give my very honest opinion. Let's start. Meat Dumplings Fried/Steamed - Either way you go it's yummy and you have to eat with sauce. General Tsao's Chicken - Sauce was yummy and portion size of chicken was good. But I'm not sure if I was impressed with the breading. It was kinda chewy. Cathay Combo- Sauce was very tasty. Lots of chicken some beef maybe 2 - 3 pieces of medium shrimp. And one of the shrimp had some of the shell left on. Dan Dan Noodle Bowl Scallops- Ok now I was very disappointed in this dish. Very tasty. But there were 8 mini marshmallow size scallops in the bowl. The rest of the bowl was NOODLES. I feel like they could of done a little better on the portion size for the scallops. I felt like I was paying for scallops but getting a bowl of noodles. Dan Dan Noodle Bowl Chicken- Same thing happened here as the scallops. It was tasty but just not enough meat. Beef Pepper Steak- Very Tasty lots of beef. Kinda chewy and some tender. Kind of hit or miss with this one. Rice- Slightly undercooked and hard. Overall flavors were all there. I really enjoy eating at this restaurant. The fact they offer brown rice for those of us who try to eat healthier is the great. The food is excellent quality and the vegetables are fresh. My husband and I went to Chef Chen last night (11/19/2016) We had to wait about 20-25 minutes for orange chicken, sesame chicken and a order of crab cream cheese rangoons. When we got home to eat, the chicken was extremely hard almost not edible. And to top it off the young lady that took our order didn't even give us our correct change. Ordered from this place before and it was good but this place has gone downhill. The food last night was greasy and had no taste. It was not just one but all three of our orders. Pepper steak, scheswan chicken and sesame chicken we're all so bad we could not eat it. The wonton soup had wontons that we're stuck together. I will never order from them again. I've been twice. First time I went we had a large party that they were able to accommodate and the food was delicious. I went back this evening and ordered their Ginger Broccoli Shrimp, a bottle of hot and sour soup, fried rice, and a bottle of coke as a to go order that I waited for. Got home (20 min drive) opened my bag and my ginger broccoli shrimp is ginger broccoli chicken with 3 pieces of shrimp thrown in. Not only that but the hot and sour soup tasted oily ( won't order this again) and they didn't tell me I had to grab the drink myself. I called and they said they would fix it and deliver it and take back the wrong one. Very disappointed with our meal, we had 2 orders of crab cheese wontons, and 2 orders of sesame chicken and fried rice. When I called to place the order i specifically asked what came in the fried rice and I was told peas, carrots, and eggs. Our crab cheese wontons only had cream cheese, and our fried rice was only rice no veggies. The sesame chicken was adequate. When I called to ask if it was normal for the crab cheese wontons to not have any crab, I was informed by the manager that I didn't taste the crab but it's there and I was wrong. When I asked about the peas carrots and egg, I was told I have to ask for extra if I want any in my fried rice because even though it comes with it, they don't put it in the fried rice. I was then told I'm the only one to have ever complained and they have never once heard of anyone having issues, so I thought I would post this here so next time they can't tell someone else that they've never had a complaint ever in the history of being open. The hot and sour soup was perfect! The crab wontons were sub par. I mean it was basically only cream cheese and green onions. Now for the entrees my dish was pretty salty. Like I took two bites and I just couldn't do it. My wife had the ginger broccoli beef. The flavor was great , but the beef was very chewy. I would recommend the chicken or just straight veggies. The service was a bit shotty. It looks like most of there business is to go, so the "wait staff" is poorly trained. I would order to go next time instead. read more

Terrible customer service, if they forget part of your order they do not care. I understand it's the holidays during a pandemic, but the customer service issue we encountered went beyond that. We ordered at 545PM and the food arrived at approximately 7PM, incredibly reasonable turn around. Unfortunately, they forgot half of the order. No big deal- it happens- so we call and report the oversight. The manager immediately claims to call the driver to have him come back with the second half of our order. We received a promise they would call us with an update shortly. We called them again at 735PM and they advised they were making the second half of the order having it delivered. Ok, we were understanding and said that was fine. We called again at 834PM and were told the same thing. Again, we chose to stay calm. Its the holidays, people are busy- we get it. But when I called for a 4th time at 9PM and was told again, the order was going to be delivered shortly, I finally got frustrated. As of this time, it was more than 3 hours after we had ordered. Chef Chen never bothered to reach out to us, we had to call them each time. This is when we have officially become frustrated and finally ask for a cancellation or a refund of the missing items. The restaurant argued. Insisting on the order being delivered and offering a 15% discount on a future order. At this point, we have no desire to order again in the future, the food was no longer needed and we had to change meal plans for half the family. I had to ask numerous times for a refund before one was finally agreed to. A refund of $20.19 was offered to offset the items we had not yet received. At 910pm the food was delivered and we received a call from Chef Chen saying that instead of just refunding the items they would just have the driver leave the missing items and $20 and call it even. So, half our meal was 3.5 hours late, and were given $20 cash instead of a proper refund. The staff was very short on apologies and lacked understanding of how to correct an issue. Instead we were told numerous times it wasn't the restaurants fault because they were busy and just didn't have time to fix the mistake. Again, I understand it is busy- but when a restaurant makes a mistake it should not be a punishment for the customer. If they were not going to get the items out timely, we should have been told that upfront and given a chance to cancel the missing items. instead we were forced to call 4 times and request a refund multiple times before action was finally taken. As a customer, you shouldn't have to call 4 times to beg for your meal or a refund after 3.5 hours. read more

I order from here about once a month and have never had any problems until this time. My 8 year old daughter almost swallowed a 1 inch metal shaving found in her white rice. I have published this photo in the photo section. I called chef chen to let them know of the finding. They said that its probably from the metal brush they use to clean the pots with. They offered me 15% off my next visit and I found this to be a horrible resolution. I told them they needed to dump all that rice and stop using that brush . They said they would but it sounded like they just wanted me off the phone. If you want to eat metal I recommend this place but I will NEVER be back. I hope you choose a different place as well because anyone who simply offers you 15% off your NEXT purchase for something that could have put your daughter in the hospital, does not need to be in business.
