And wow, the taste is the exact same. The decor is the exact same. The people are the exact same. It was truly a feeling of nostalgia that's hard to describe. My favorite dish has always been, and still is, the bamboo shoots with pork. It is so fragrant, umami, and simply delicious. The west lake soup is also a classic done so well - pro tip to add white pepper to give it a little kick. The steamed pork belly was okay - sauce is flavorful (a touch salty) along with the preserved greens but the pork wasn't as tender as I had remembered it. The fish filets are fried to perfection, full of salt/pepper flavor, and pairs well with the jalapeños. If you don't like fish, you can get the same flavor with the pork version of this dish, which I also really like. The service can be a little slow because it's just 1 chef and 1 waitress who own the restaurant - same people that have run the show since I first came here probably almost 30 years ago! Incredible to see them still working so hard and serving delicious food. They'll never know how much their restaurant and food means to me!

Great flavor and the pork didn't have that weird pork taste some Asian places have. The crispy smoked duck pancake was awesome and worth the steeper price. I wasn't a fan of the sauce alone, but in the pancake was excellent. The eggroll was a decent eggroll and the duck sauce that came with it was the best sauce I've had with an eggroll. The lady working was sweet and was working her butt off with the 5 tables she had. Felt great to support a local business. The restaurant itself is out dated but the tables and utensils were clean. The atmosphere added to the experience and the background music was just perfection.

Unfortunately, after our visit this past Sunday, we won't be returning. On our very first plate, my sister found an aluminum wire mixed into her fried rice. Not a hair, not a bone but an actual wire. As you can imagine, everyone at the table immediately lost their appetite. We flagged down the waitress, and she quickly took the plate away before anyone else nearby could see it. Thankfully, I managed to take a photo. She brought the manager over, and his explanation made the situation even worse. He claimed that the wire must have come from the "brush they use to clean," and insisted it was okay. That reasoning made absolutely no sense. If the wire came from a cleaning brush, why wasn't the wok rinsed properly? And if it somehow ended up inside the fried rice, what exactly is going on in the kitchen? How many people have eaten these wires without noticing over the years? Food safety is not something to be brushed off with excuses. This was our last visit here. If you care about cleanliness and proper kitchen standards, I would proceed with caution.

The food is normally pretty good but when my sister ordered the teriyaki chicken it didn't look done. She said it was nasty and asked then for a refund and was told no. She then asked to get get soemthing else and was told they would only take $2.00 off! There are no signs that say no refunds or exchanges! I couldn't believe the manager made that much of a fuss over a $5.00 lunch! I've eaten at a lot of Chinese places around Garland over the years, and this might be the best Chinese food I've had in the area. I got the Orange Chicken and it was amazing. One thing that really stood out was that the orange sauce actually tasted fresh and homemade instead of tasting like it came out of a bottle. It even had real orange peels in it, which gave it a ton of flavor and made it feel way more authentic than most orange chicken I've had. The portions were huge too. I ordered takeout and still had enough food left over for another meal. The menu is massive, and I had no idea what to get at first. Chris (server) took the time to help me look through the menu, explain some of the dishes, and make recommendations. He didn't make me feel rushed at all, which I really appreciated especially for the takeout focused style they have going on. The owner, was also super friendly and welcoming when I came in. It was also cool hearing about some of the improvements they have planned for the restaurant. You can tell they care about the place and want to keep making it better.
