China Harbor - Honest Review I have to be honest--yes, the price is a bit on the higher side, but you definitely get your money's worth. The portions are generous enough to feed two people easily. What really stands out to me is the taste and quality. I don't know how they do it, but not only is the food delicious, it also sits well with my stomach--unlike most other Chinese places around. That alone makes it worth coming back. It's a small spot, and they seem to get a lot of mobile orders, so the size of the location isn't really a big deal. If you decide to order on-site, just be prepared to wait up to 30 minutes. But honestly, it's worth the wait. My biggest concern when rating any restaurant is flavor--and China Harbor delivers. I'm heartbroken, I've been coming here for years and the food has always been great. Tonight I picked up at drive through, went home and started adding soy sauce to my fried rice. There was a white spot in it so I assumed it was eggshell and tried picking it out. It was immediately stringy. It was chewing gum, and it still had mint scent to it. I called them and told them I was bringing it back. On the way decided to make a police report about it. Met police there, got a refund, made a report and will be turning the food into the Health department tomorrow. All the manager could say was that nobody chews gum there and wanted to know why I was reporting it to the Health Dept. One of the employees did this and I bet there are wrappers in the trash can. I took video and pics at the time I found it. If the manager had seemed to be concerned and an employee fired I'd go back but their attitude was like they were upset with me. read more

This is a nice little place to get take out when you don't feel like cooking. I live in a nearby neighborhood and have come here on and off for probably 20 yrs, maybe more. As mentioned, it's location is misleading. Old building is old in an old part of town. Ownership of this place has changed a few times over the past 15-20 yrs. Owners from 15 yrs ago or so were the best. I think they were actually chinese and the food had a lot more flavor than it does now. They sold it to someone whose food was mushy and flavorless. The current owner is much much better than the previous owner, but the food still doesn't have the flavor it used to or the flavor I'm looking for. Owners/employees are very friendly and courteous. Orders have always been correct, which wasn't the case all of the years prior to that. Prices are good and portions are more than enough. Drive through is a bit slow at times since food is cooked to order. Best to call in your order then come inside to pick it up. Egg drop soup is the best. read more

The food is never greasy, always hot and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. The family that owns this restaurant is great they take pride in their restaurant and it shows. I've tried many chinese places in and around Garland and I've recently found two worth yelping about. China Harbor is one. My favorite dish is mu shu, either vegetable or chicken. It has been a long time since I've had it so crisp and fresh tasting with the right blend of vegetables. My son always gets orange chicken and says it's really good. I can't give it any more stars because I would not eat inside. It's small and in a run-down strip center and is just some old diner chair around some cafe tables and a tv in the corner. They have a drive thru for pick up but it's dark. A motion sensor turns on the light as you drive up but it goes out while waiting for someone to come to the window to wait on you. The service is a tad slow considering I usually call my order in. However, giving the benefit of the doubt.... I'm assuming they don't start cooking until I order so that's a good thing. read more

The food is delicious but the staff is a bunch of young kids who WILL get your order wrong or forget something on it just about EVERY single time so if you order delivery, make sure the driver checks your stuff before leaving and if you pick it up yourself you must also double check the order! read more

Just tried this place and I have to say everything we ordered was very good. My favorite was the wanton soup. My daughter ordered the jalapeño chicken and while we were afraid it would be extremely spicy, it was not. The amount of spice was on point. This place is the best American Chinese restaurant, it is owned by a Hispanic family. The place looks a bit ghetto but don't be fooled by the looks. We only live a couple blocks from this place and really wanted it to be awesome. We've given them several chances, but they keep disappointing us. Most recently, we ordered Crab Rangoon and each had about a teaspoon of filling. The outside is good, but not worth it without the crab filling. Also, we ordered soup and it was lukewarm when we got home (literally 2 blocks). In previous visits, they have taken 30 minutes more than the time they gave us on the phone, forgotten parts of our order, and frequently change the consistency of the sauces. It's not the worst food; I think we only got sick one time out of 8-10 (does getting sick 10% of the time make it okay?), but it so mezzo-mezzo that we're done. read more

Been coming here for years. It's the only place that doesn't burn the sweet and sour chicken or have more batter than chicken. The only complaint is the fortune cookies that come from another supplier are not good, but that's not really why you would go there anyway. Also don't be shocked that the owners are Hispanic. Although it's kind of hidden, the place is very clean, good food and good pricing! Customer service is not above and beyond good but it's not bad either! I always order their 2 for $5.79 soups which are veggies soup with meat chicken and shrimp, very healthy and yummy (this coming from a person who's not big on veggies) love the price for them and they are a good size!!
