When people ask in the foodie groups where the best Chinese food is in the area, Chef Chan's is invariably among the replies. With good reason. I rolled up on Chef Chan's yesterday after a day of Christmas shopping (more accurately Christmas pickups, who can risk "shopping" these days). Wish I had gotten here sooner. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Chef Chan's Beef, egg rolls and fried dumplings and all were among the best I ever had. The egg rolls were crisp and hot and not one bit oily. The dumplings were fried on all sides and filled with a pork filling that was superb. The Mongolian Beef was not too sweet and paired beautifully with the rice. And the very best? Chef Chan's beef. I had scoured the menu for orange beef which serves as a litmus test for me when I'm trying a néw Chinese place. Sadly, there wasn't any on the menu. I asked the waitress about Chef Chan's beef and she said it was his version of orange beef and I was all in. This beef is barely breaded but fried to a delightful crispness. There is no visible sauce but the essence of orange resonates in each bite without overwhelming. The portions were huge so I got two meals out of it but I was ready to hurry back for more. The very best! COVID-19 precautions are in place with masks and hand sanitizer required. Meals are served in solid takeout containers which is both safe and convenient. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've been coming here since I was a child and I'm now in my mid 30's and still come here. The food is delicious and good quality, great portions. The owners are very nice and you can just tell they take pride in what they do. I will continue to come here as long as they are open. Wouldn't change a thing. read more

Chef Chan's makes brisk, efficient work of all your Chinese food needs. We've dined in twice now, receiving quick but not unfriendly service. Takeout and delivery is available (within their service radius) but with a generous dining space, it seemed like a lot of their business was also done with groups eating in. The space is dim and slightly outdated but with tablecloths and carpeting, it's definitely a step up from a quick takeout place. On both of our weekend trips, there were plenty of groups here enjoying an alternative Sunday brunch. With plenty of lunch deals that include a soup, choice of rice, and fried spring roll with your entree, the options are aplenty. We let our appetites take the lead and ordered a gluttonous three meals for our party of two, engorging ourselves on beef with broccoli, baby shrimp with broccoli, and a vegetable lo mein. The 'with broccoli' protein dishes were just all right, tasting more of salt and soy sauce than anything else. The humble vegetable lo mein was the surprising star of the meal both times that we ordered it. Perfectly seasoned with not too much filler, we put this away in double time. I appreciate the restaurant's healthy cooking claims, such as avoiding MSG, and using low sodium soy sauce and extra virgin olive oil in their kitchen. Our server on both days was good about refilling our water glasses frequently and there was no wait at any point during our meals, whether for the seat, meals, or the check. read more

I wanted to try them out after the local foodie FB page talking about how good they are every time a discussion about "Best Local Chinese Food" comes up. I was disappointed. The band news: It took forever for somebody to come to my table after the hostess seated me No crispy noodles for your soup? Never heard of that. It happened to me once before somewhere else and the server said, "Sorry, we are out of packaged crispy noodles, so we made fresh for you!" and the they were great! Server got my order wrong. $2.49 for an unsweet tea with no refills offered? Server took my bill and said "thank you" and walked away. An 80% tip was not appropriate. Gave her 20% but that was not worth the quality of the service. I had to ask for me receipt when the server brought back my change for my work expenses. The good news: The food was very tasty! I will give them another shot. Maybe the server was new, but I am going to guess not since she and the hostess talked a lot. read more

First step into the restaurant and right away greeted kindly. Server seated us right away, and was professional the entire time. He knew the menu inside out, and was able to suggest great dish pairings. The meals we had were above expectations. Cooked perfectly, the seasonings blended so perfectly. Eating a meal here was a wonderful experience for us. And we are planning on coming here more often. The atmosphere here was amazing. Very clean, organized and warm. The music was at a perfect volume, and the lighting here really makes you feel comfortable. Not bright and not too dim, just perfect. I noticed a group come in, and even when they treated the server disrespectful, he maintained professionalism and courtesy. The Mongolian beef was a plate full of dark sauce drowning a few gross looking pieces of beef my husband finally told our daughter not to eat because it looked suspect. Today I tried the Chan's beef (delish) and the tangy and spicy green beans. This is the first time I haven't liked what I got. The green beans are just steamed green beans. It pains me to have to update this restaurant down to one star. Not sure if pandemic got the best of them or what? While still great in 2020. Starting in 2021 food quality plummeted and now in 2022 is still dismal. Cold Cabbage is a dressing filled massively full of chilies mess Pork in Peking sauce is now in the ubiquitous brown sauce Chicken Sia Chai. Dry. Overcooked. Not sauce. No heat. So disappointing to see the service, food, and management of Chef Chan's decline so rapidly the last several months. They appear to be under new management, as the gentleman (owner? Manager?) I used to see every time I walked in the place is no longer there. He seemed to run a tight ship and I never had issues with incorrect "to go" orders. I have had several problems in recent months -- tonight I get home to find out they left out the friggin' RICE! A few weeks ago, I ordered and paid online, only to arrive to pick up my order and they tell me they have no record of it! (I showed them the charge made to my credit card). We've been ordering delivery from here for 15 + years and it's always been great. Two adults and two children. Our kids grew up and when home would ask that we order out the first night home. All great. When we did eat in it was similarly great. Loved it. Then yesterday we ordered take out and picked up. Something has gone horribly wrong. The pork fried rice, normally juicy and yummy, was dry and the rice variety has changed. Different flavor. Crunchy. The sesame chicken was very over cooked, dry and tough. Couldn't eat it. Egg rolls were soggy and tough too. Crab puffs still good so maybe they were fresh at least. New cook? New supplier? Or are they recycling leftovers from lunch? There was no one in the restaurant at 5:30. Has everyone figured this out or are they purely take out? We will try them again since we have a relationship and you should too, at least once. I have eaten at or had take out from Chef Chan's around a dozen or so times. I would definitely give them five out of five stars if they had a little better consistency. Some of the times we order from there it is the best or some of the best Chinese food we have ever eaten. The next time we order food from there it is mediocre at best. Awhile back I tried their Mongolian beef for the first time. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection and I thought I had found my new favorite food in the area. One week later we had guests and I convinced them to order the Mongolian beef. This time around it turned out like it had been frozen then microwaved to heat it up. The Chinese food here is acceptable. It is a little pricey, but the portions are pretty big. We ordered General Tso Chicken and Orange Chicken. The breading on the chicken is pretty thick, very similar to southern fried chicken. The sauces were very runny and watered down. Overall I wouldn't particularly recommend this restaurant. read more
