We got the jalenpeno chicken, magnolia beef, shrimp lomein and egg roll (sorry for the misspelling ) Everything was absolutely yummy and fresh. This is a great place for some traditional, basic Chinese food. Nothing unique but they use quality ingredients and large portions to draw you back. Also know that iced tea is free with your meal if you dine in. If you like your shrimp big and plentiful their shrimp rice and noodle dishes don't hold back! I had a great waitress yesterday. I asked her opinion on the level of spice in the Mongolian Beef lunch special and not only was she accurate but she came back to the table to see if I agreed after my meal was cooked. The chicken was meaty compared to other Chinese restaurants that use about 75% batter, 25% chicken. The chicken here was about 90% chicken, 10% battered. The price beats P.F Chang's restaurant any day, but the food isn't as high-end quality... Now here is the bad news... I ordered "orange chicken" and "general tso's chicken," but I felt like I tasted soy sauce chicken and sweeter soy sauce chicken. The fried rice was a huge disappointment. Basically the rice was made with little pieces of eggs and doused with soy sauce. That's it, with no more ingredients besides the oil used to fry it. I was heading to HEB but my wife was hungry. Since I'm fat, hunger personally moves me, so when she said she was in the mood for Chinese food, this place just made sense. It's the end cap restaurant of the business complex. Initial thoughts of this place was one of safety because the window by the door was boarded up (see photos for evidence). This is a good neighborhood, so I allowed my fatness to overcome all doubt and just made up a scenario where the food was so good to whereas people broke the window in order to get more food. I also saw a hand written sign offering free iced tea to dine in costumers. If I actually liked tea, that would be a win for me. It's unsweetened tea just for the record. Aesthetically, this place is simple, yet regal. There is not much decorations, but the amount they have is quite adequate for the size of the place. The wife and I made the second and third customer inside, but their phones were ringing for takeout orders often. You get free delivery with a $15 minimum order. Customer service was very attentive...we were one of three people, so I can't really mess with them about anything negative. We ordered barbeque pork, Chinatown Stir fry with fried rice and Seafood Deluxe with fried rice. The pork was slightly seasoned, but the dipping sauce made up for the light flavoring. All food were lightly flavored. Eating the food almost made me feel as though they cared for my overall health while still trying to get me full. All in all the food is decent, and the price point is decent. Portion sizes were slightly small, but nothing too bad. Pretty awfully disappointed in my first visit to this place. I ordered Szechuan beef and scallops with fried rice. The plate consisted entirely of beef with enough scallops to legitimize the name. There were no vegetables of any kind. The beef was scorched and had the same consistency as beef jerky--not the tough stringy authentic beef jerky, but that fake processed stuff that is chewy like bubblegum. The sauce was not at all spicy like one would expect from a Szechuan dish. It was pretty much straight Teriyaki sauce. The rice was not fried at all-just a scoop of brown rice. This is my go-to for local Chinese food. Love their stuff and their dumplings/pot-stickers are the best outside of Auntie Chang's. Only catch with eating in is the inconsistency of staffing. They've had some excellent folks over the years, but either management's changed or they can't keep good employees. The in-restaurant service can be very slow at times. read more

I'm from New Orleans, so my palate is a lot different than most Houstonians. I've been grading many restaurants here on a curve, as much of the food in the area is light on seasoning; many places I'd rate a five here, I'd rate no more than a four back home. With that said, Bao's Cafe isn't anywhere near as flavorful as I'm used to back home. But it's a leader of the pack when it comes to Chinese in the Spring/Woodlands area. It even tastes better the next day. I frequent the HEB and Walmart nearby, so I've passed Bao's for nearly two years, visiting for the first time on May 2, 2020. Practicing social distancing, the staff were masked, with folding tables laid out. On those tables were makeshift kiosks with your order waiting. My order and billing were done over the phone, and I simply had to sign my receipt and tip once I arrived 15 minutes later. They also had complimentary snacks available. The friendly staff provided stellar service during this questionable crisis, and I eagerly fled home to try my massive dish. I ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice with a BBQ Pork appetizer. The flavor and texture of the battered shrimp took over, filling me up instantly; their fried rice is similar to P. F. Chang, but not quite as flavorful. But everything was cooked to perfection nonetheless. The rice was al dente as I like, the shrimp were massive and chewy, and it all paired well with the barbecue pork, which tastes great with the semi-tangy sauce (in a separate container), but also has a special flair *without* it. What I loved, though, is how great my fried rice tasted the next day, due to the seasonings setting in. Like I said, it was all very different from what I'm accustomed to. Plenty of black pepper. Today I have the Kung Pao beef. A lot of beef for lunch portion. I asked for it spiced. It was perfect. Sauce is not sickening sweet. Great wait staff.
