I talked about Cheddar's in another review and gave it 5 stars! Each visit I ordered ribs and they were smoking! Cooked just right - meat ready to fall off the bone and sauce layered on top before being served. That was soon after they first opened!! Next 2 visits was a whole different story. Ribs were overcooked - looked like blackened ribs. Asked for extra sauce to make it palatable. In November I took a chance and suggested Cheddars for a party of 6. Four of us had ribs and no one enjoyed them! Dry, overcooked and no sauce on top to help make it easier to digest! Cheddars has great potential but looks like they're switching up cooks who don't know how to cook ribs. Ribs should never be hit or miss! My brother had the meatloaf- recently added to the menu. This was our first and definitely last visit to Cheddar's. As soon as we were seated, my husband said he had bad vibes. But we decided to give it a shot. Big mistake. We waited 10 minutes for our server to come to our table. She took our drink order. I had a coupon for free Chips and Queso for signing up for their EClub. I asked if we could go ahead and order the chips / queso awhile. Needless to say, we NEVER received the Chips and Queso and our server said she would have the manager take them off our bill????!!!!! Thanks...you're going to take a free item off our bill like you're really doing us a favor????? Okay, so back to our order / food. It took our server at least 10 minutes to bring our drinks - 2 unsweetened iced teas and a root beer. All 3 drinks should have taken a total of 2-3 minutes to bring to our table. Our server told us (for the first time) that our queso and chips would be right out. NOPE!!!! We sat there about 35 minutes waiting for our food and the server telling us 2 more times that our queso / chips would be right out. She kept blaming it on the kitchen One would think that queso and chips would be a quick fix. Obviously that is not the case at this Cheddar's location. Our food did finally arrive. My husband's ribs were so hard he couldn't eat them. My son's french fries were dark brown. My salmon was warm on the side of cold. The manager did come to our table after the server told her about the chips / queso. She was the only saving grace about our whole dining experience. She was very apologetic and told us to please come back, ask for her and she will make sure she seats us in a good section with a good server. I thanked her but told her I seriously doubt that we would be back. She said they were very short staffed. Sorry, that is not a good excuse. Cheddars is like Cracker Barrel without driving over the NJ bridge and paying the toll. I hit a low when it came to trying out new restaurants but Cheddar's fixed me. The food was great. It was a great deal, cheap and high quality. I got the veggie platter which was four sides and a soup or salad, as a side girlie they understand me. My boyfriend got country fried chicken and two sides and the chicken was so thick and cooked perfectly. Our waitress Christine was super knowledgeable about the menu since we had never been there. The restaurant has low lighting and low music. My only complaint is that the booth we sat in was small and the table was easily crowded when we had plates. I would definitely recommend this place and will continue going in the future. read more

Honestly, this is a decent spot for a cheap family dinner! It's like Applebees meets Cracker Barrel. Everything is super affordable. They have a great selection on their dinner menu as well as their kids menu. And also well priced drink options. My husband and both had to go with big tropical mixed drinks as the prices were just too good to pass them up!! My husband had the "painkiller" and I had the strawberry paradise punch. Both were huge and delicious. I will say though, I didn't feel / taste much alcohol in my drink but that's okay. When you first sit, the server brings out croissants for the table. They don't look as fluffy as they do in the pictures but they're sweet and yummy. For dinner I did a half rack of ribs with southern green beans and broccoli cheddar casserole. The casserole reminded me of a classic thanksgiving side, makes you feel right at home. The green beans were different, but really tasty. And the ribs were delicious. That said, we'd ordered the Wisconsin cheese bite appetizer and I felt reallly full after eating a bunch of those. My son had the grilled chicken and rice kids meal with fries and he really seemed to enjoy it. My husband had the country fried steak and it was huge!!! He also had the cheddar broccoli casserole with his, as well as a loaded baked potato. Overall, we all enjoyed the meal. We loved our experience. The hostess was a little miserable, but she could've been having a bad day but our waitress and waitress in training were absolutely amazing. Food was awesome and seasoned Very very well. Nothing went to waste. We definitely plan on going back. The restaurant was beautiful and we got right in but I know there was a wait after, but I don't blame it being a Saturday. We plan on taking our friends this weekend. My husband and I literally sat at this bar and watched the bartender wipe her nose, face, head several times and continued to make drinks, pick up fruit to put in peoples drinks, and even wiped the side of one of the glasses with the same hands without washing her hands once. Even some of the waitresses picked up fruit and put in peoples glasses with their hands after touching on everything. Uggh, so disgusting.... I looked at the Yelp reviews before choosing to dine here for the first time and despite the low rating, we went ahead and took our chances since we heard good things from friends. I should have gone elsewhere. The hostess was pleasant and seated us promptly and then it went downhill from there. After waiting for quite some time without being acknowledged, I looked around to see staff standing in the corner chatting and on their phones with no regard that no one had been to our table. So we waited and waited. I had to walk back to the hostess to let her know that no one had been there to take our drink order. Finally, the waitress came and offered no apology for the unnecessary wait (they were extremely slow). The honey butter croissants were delicious but they only give you one per person and charge you for extra. Everything else tasted like microwaved leftovers. It certainly did not taste fresh. The chicken fried steak was tough and the gravy was disgusting. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant boxed potatoes. The broccoli cheese casserole was the highlight of my dinner. Unfortunately, the portion size was really small. After eating, we yet again waited and waited for the waitress so we could get our bill and leave. As a former waitress, there was NO reason we shouldn't have had quicker service. It was dead in there- and now I see why. It just seems that staff don't care. I have never in my life left a review on an establishment but this restaurant is so terrible I cannot in good faith let it go unnoticed. I'd like to start off by saying that there are some absolutely amazing staff here at this restaurant in all areas and I am so grateful that I was able to meet them and I hope they find better places of employment that will treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve. Now onto the bad, to start off the good is very mediocre and I can understand that for your size portions the price isn't bad but when you get a 6oz steak, you expect a 6oz steak, not a steak the size of your finger. The steak sizes are so disproportionate it's hard to believe the management knows what they are doing and not to mention the quality of the food changes every single day, it has never once stayed consistent but when it's good it is good. The servers are a mixed bag as you have extremely sweet and talented servers while having ones that are just downright obnoxious and rude and they think that because they're in the back you cant hear them talking trash about you and your family, some of them will have AirPods in while taking your orders, others will just ignore you when you need something; You are gambling Everytime you walk in on wether todays the day you'll get great service or the really bad service like usual. The host are extremely kind and very much know what they are doing but there are some that will just speed off when seating you and say absolutely nothing. The Bussers will stare at you as you eat and remove things off your table and continually do this until you leave which doesn't happen often but happens more often then it should. The final and worst point is the management, I have seen the way the servers and host are treated by their managers and it is horrible, they do not EVER stand up for them and will actively degrade them infront of customers, I have watched a single host dealing with multiple parties get torn down by her manager infront of everyone just because she was not moving fast enough and refused to take the hostess advice on the seating plan which I'm assuming she would know more about seeing as she is the one there a majority of the time and never the management, the managers are vile and treat their staff like work horses and also make it clear they are easily expendable by the factors of their turnover rates, I have never seen a place have so many new faces every other week like this restaurant. I genuinely hope this place changes as eating here is fun when it's not a nightmare dealing with the horrible things that take place here but other then that this place needs a complete overhaul read more

We went to Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen again today to give it another go. I really wanted to like this place and my meal but was extremely disappointed again. I ordered a 6 oz Sirloin medium rare. The steak was cooked as requested however, I COULD NOT chew the steak as it had a LARGE amount of gristle...it was awful and I had to find a comfortable way to discard parts of this steak from my mouth. Some of it was even difficult to cut with the serrated sharp knife that came with the other utensils. Thank goodness that the server brought quite a few napkins which I ultimately needed. The sides that I ordered were the French fries which would have been good if they were hot and green beans which were oddly sweet. This is the second time we went to this restaurant, the first time I ordered salad - better choice. My husband ordered Chicken Fried Steak and he did not complain about his meal but when he was done his plate was still full. Full of what you asked, the THICK breading surrounding the steak and a good portion of his French fries. He chose carrots for his size and they were whittled (baby carrots as they are affectionately called). Sorry, I don't get it! Last time we were there I wondered why the couple a few booths up from us sent their meals back (now I know). The manager came and asked if they could fix them something else and evidentially the answer was no. NOW I UNDERSTAND! And no, I don't usually send food back, I just Yelp and don't go back. We've been to the location in Camden, DE years ago and had a positive experience. I'm not even sure if this is the same franchise after our Newark experience. We were seated quickly (party of 5). The hostess made no eye contact and we had to chase her after we realized she was walking to our table. Our drinks and food were slow but somehow arrived lukewarm. A patron with a pistol in hjs waistband was seated near us (and we understand DE is an open carry state). Many establishments have signs prohibiting weapons... Cheddars doesn't, as I confirmed with the hostess. Our kids were upset about "the guy with a gun in his pants" so we asked to pack our food, paid at the table, and left. Between the lukewarm food and the careless open carry at a family restaurant, and the host staff who simply did not care about anything, we're finished with this place. We won't return. read more

I am writing this while I am waiting for my son's burger. Not my first rodeo with Cheddars. I've been to the location in GA. This one was new and just opened up.. I called to see if there was a wait. Went through the prompts and waited. The host picked up the phone and kept it off the hook then hung up. I should have taken that as a red flag. I checked the website and I was able to place myself on the list. I get in and there are two host stated that it would be about 10 mins. I walk outside and it's was about 5 mins. I was excited. I came in and went to the 2nd hist who was seating. A white older couple got in front of me and they sat them. My son then found a bank card and gave it to the hostess. The other lady who was working with them stated it was hers and walked away. No thank you or anything. It was a Caucasian lady who sat us and she was very pleasant and apologized. We are seated, we get my food , steak and shrimp, it's luke warm, and more like medium rare some parts rare oppose to the medium I requested. My son opens his burger and it looks as though someone took a bite from his burger. We ask for it to be taken back and it's been about 15-20 mins we've been waiting. While we are waiting for his food my son eating the rest of the appetizers he finds finds a hair on his plate. A manager just walked up and asked about my experience. We joined the waitlist from home and checked in at arrival. We were seated timely within 15 min. We were seated at a high top table in the bar section. Well we waited a good bit and I asked again and she said he was busy but we could go back on the wait list. I said I'll wait here for the manager. In the meantime I went to the bar to get us some waters myself because we had been there a bit. And then we decided to just move to the next table ourselves. The hostess walked by when we were getting up and was really snarky saying oh you're just going to get back on the wait list and in her mic told someone we were just moving ourselves with a really mean tone of voice. Then my husband's dinner was supposed to come with a salad but he never got it. When he questioned it after our entree arrived he was asked if he wanted the salad now.
