We stopped here for a quick bite on our way to somewhere else. The restaurant was a little busy, but there was no one at the bar. Eboni was our bartender, and she was friendly and started us out with a Watermelon Margarita and honey butter croissants. We were not familiar with Cheddar's, but she said they are known for them. We really enjoyed the croissants. We ordered the chips and queso, which did not seem to be scratch at all, and the Key West Shrimp. It would be hard to mess up shrimp and rice, and it was very tasty, as was the pineapple pico de gallo. However, the "off the cob" corn tasted like canned corn. I would say Cheddar's is more "scratch-esque" but the prices are so reasonable we are ok with that once in a while, and it's a solid 3. The drinks are especially delicious.

This was my first visit to the Newark Cheddar's scratch kitchen location, and it definitely lived up to expectations! I had previously dined at the Dover location over 8 years ago, and this one was just as welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff made us feel right at home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The drinks were fantastic, and we were off to a great start with their signature complimentary honey butter croissants--soft, buttery, and a perfect way to wake up the taste buds! The food was equally impressive: the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the country fried chicken was packed with flavor, and the shrimp and fish platter was generously portioned and cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were spot on--we even had leftovers to enjoy later that evening. It truly felt like the flavor party continued well into the night. I'll definitely be returning!

Food was very satisfying. The manager and waiter took great care of us and the drinks were great. I had 2 just because and ordered food to go.

Staff was friendly and on point from beginning to end. They do take the dress code seriously, I saw people get turned away for athletic wear. It's clear on their website and not asking too much for an upscale night out. Prices weren't ridiculous, especially since portions were plentiful. A lot of people were leaving with leftovers. The specialty drinks are a bit pricey tho. The cornbread and Mac n cheese are a must order the moment you sit down to start things off. Both served in a small skillet, perfect to share. The cornbread bread was flavorful and the butter that comes on top you def want to let that melt right in! The Mac n cheese noodles were a little softer than I would of preferred but the blend of cheeses and the crisp crust on top made me not worry about the doneness of the noodles, it was top notch! We went classic with the entrees - catfish with gulf shrimp. The catfish was cooked perfect super tender and flaky. I wasn't thrilled with the shrimp, for "gulf shrimp" as they listed in the menu they were a lot Smaller than I expected and a little tough. The sauce they came in was nice. I would have liked some kind of sauce on the side for the catfish. The collard green rice was delicious and the broccoli that came with it was prob the most delicious broccoli I've ever had, just cooked well in lots of butter! The other entree we got was the fried chicken. Really delicious and tender. It came with a sweet potato side that was yummy and a classic collard greens Even tho we were stuffed we had to try the bread pudding, it was served with a Side of delicious ice cream. The bread pudding was perfect! I would definitely return even just to eat and try more menu items but the jazz club is a must do! Beautifully decorated and classy establishment all around

They let us know that our waffles kept sticking and they might have to give us pancakes instead. I found that odd. Makes me think the maker was so dirty that they couldn't get it to work. The rest of the food was slop. If your dog sniffs it and walks away, it's a sign. We didn't dine in. Good thing because we ended up throwing everything away and driving to Rehoboth. Later we discovered they literally serve rodents (muskrats). Supposedly it's a Delaware thing, but they are the only ones that do it. GAG!

The food was honestly a 10 out of 10. The collard greens were so good and full of flavor, and I got the smothered turkey wings which were amazing. Definitely ask for extra gravy because that gravy is too good not to. My friend got the shrimp and cheesecake pop and the portion size was actually really solid. I also cannot forget the cheesesteak beignets because wow... such a creative idea and they were amazing. I asked for the sauce on the side and it initially came out wrong, so I had to flag someone down to fix it, but once they corrected it everything was perfect. Now the only downside for me was definitely the service. We really were not checked on much outside of taking our order and bringing drinks. Anytime we needed something like boxes, extra help, or corrections to food, we kinda had to wave down bus boys or random staff members passing by. A few more table check ins would've made the experience so much better because the food itself truly deserves top tier service. Parking can also be a little annoying, but I did notice there's a garage across the street which helps. Overall though, I absolutely loved this place and I'm so happy my friend brought me here. Even with the service issues, I would 100% come back because the food alone is worth it. I love the drawings on the wall and the place has a cute and cozy feel which we love! We started off with appetizers ... the deviled eggs topped with lobster (amazing), cornbread (delicious) and cheesesteak beignets (they were just okay to me although my husband and son both really enjoyed them). For entrees we shared a bowl of gumbo, it was quite tasty and full of flavor (definitely worth ordering). I had the Picnic Basket Fried Chicken. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection, the potato salad wasn't my favorite and the condiment was described as a sweet and sassy sauce but it tasted more like a doctored Crystals Hot Sauce. My son ordered the lamb chops cooked medium. They initially came out overcooked but I have to give the restaurant credit, the chef remade them and the second order was cooked properly. My son enjoyed them although he felt they could have used a bit more seasoning. My husband ordered the Po' Boy Cheesesteak and absolutely loved it. The drinks were a bit of a mixed experience. My rum punch had to be remade a few times before it was right but once they got it right, it was delicious. My son really enjoyed his Old Fashioned, no remake was required. Overall we had a great dining experience. I have to note our server , Anye, was amazing. She was friendly, attentive and provided excellent suggestions.m While there were a few misses, ie dirty and damaged menus, the highlights far outweighed them. We would definitely return

Would have loved a piece of white bread or cornbread. My 14 year old granddaughter ordered fried chicken wings and was sucking the bones. She also ordered the Mac n Cheese which she said was to die for! She, too, felt the collard greens were okay but nothing to write home about. Neither of us ate our greens. We wanted to order sweet iced tea which is usually a staple in most soul food restaurants but at 2:30pm they had already run out. Also, we wanted to eat in the dining room but they said the dining room closes at 2:00pm :-( so we got our food to go and ate in the car. Mind you, it was about 90 degrees outside but we turned the air conditioning on in the car and enjoyed our lunch. Too bad I discovered this place on the day before I left the conference because otherwise I would have been eating here everyday of the conference.
