Today I went to cheddars. It was an amazing experience due to the amazing food I ate such as the trio sampler that comes with a wide variety of food choices. But the best part was my waitress whose name was Ronny. She was the best and had the best energy ever going from table to table putting a smile on everyone's face. Nice setting and superb waiter on the evening of Saturday, April 11, 2026. He was willing to give us 5 separate checks, and we didn't enter the establishment until at about 945 PM and we did ask before ordering anything which helped too. My steak was a bit tough. The flavorings on my green beans and cheese on broccoli was good. The cocktail was tropical which I like and I definitely didn't want to have more than one. I liked the number of options available, especially for a from scratch kitchen. There aren't too many places in the area open past 10' PM for dine in except for Applebees and a diner probably. What a delightful evening last weekend at Cheddar's! Think of a cozy, no fuss family atmosphere..Our server Maureen was so attentive and helpful. We never had to look for her to top off our drinks or to bring us anything. All of the food was delicious. From the honey butter croissants to the onion ring appetizers to the entrees (ribs, steak bites, country fried steak), to the desserts (apple pie and ice cream and carrot cake). The onion rings were some of the best that I have had, not greasy, not overly seasoned, and nice and crispy, and so many for the whole table...and the carrot cake, apple pie and ice cream made a tasty end to a really good meal...Hefty portions and reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? - The online option to join the wait-list did not give an arrival option. When I reserved our table when we were about 20 minutes from the location (we were traveling from Baltimore) our table was ready earlier than expected. I called to alert the staff that we were delayed and was told to just check in when we arrived. Unfortunately we still had to wait about 1/2 hour for our table when we got there. - Although delicious, the steak bites were over seasoned and quite salty. Thank goodness the mashed potatoes were able to balance it out somewhat. All in all, I would definitely come again to try out some other menu items. read more

We stopped here for a quick bite on our way to somewhere else. The restaurant was a little busy, but there was no one at the bar. Eboni was our bartender, and she was friendly and started us out with a Watermelon Margarita and honey butter croissants. We were not familiar with Cheddar's, but she said they are known for them. We really enjoyed the croissants. We ordered the chips and queso, which did not seem to be scratch at all, and the Key West Shrimp. It would be hard to mess up shrimp and rice, and it was very tasty, as was the pineapple pico de gallo. However, the "off the cob" corn tasted like canned corn. I would say Cheddar's is more "scratch-esque" but the prices are so reasonable we are ok with that once in a while, and it's a solid 3. The drinks are especially delicious. read more

This was my first visit to the Newark Cheddar's scratch kitchen location, and it definitely lived up to expectations! I had previously dined at the Dover location over 8 years ago, and this one was just as welcoming. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff made us feel right at home. The drinks were fantastic, and we were off to a great start with their signature complimentary honey butter croissants--soft, buttery, and a perfect way to wake up the taste buds! The food was equally impressive: the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the country fried chicken was packed with flavor, and the shrimp and fish platter was generously portioned and cooked to perfection. Cheddar's really had the potential and they still do. Service was great. Very friendly, attentive, accommodating. Food was both hit and miss. We were given fresh bread shaped like croissants with a white glaze that were good. We got the trio app that came with chicken tenders, spinach artichoke dip, and queso and salsa. Chicken were four generously sized pieces and tender..the chips, however were pretty... not good. It tasted like stale/old oil. The cheese curds were good, we dipped those in the queso and spinach artichoke. At least it's an issue with the chips and not the actual oil that they are currently using to fry. The bourbon porkchop wete pretty tender and tasty. I didn't like how my side of rice was saturated in the sauce. The rice also had a strong celery-like flavor to it which I as not expecting. The broccoli cheddar casserole was very good though. It reminds me of Cracker Barrels Hash brown casserole. The shrimp and ribs.. the ribs got sent back. They were advertised as "fall off the bone" but instead was very tough and jerky-like. The fried shrimp and side of fries were fine. They also offered to make a new rack of ribs, but we assumed it was going to probably be a similar issue so we declined as we didn't want to waste another set of ribs. Our waitress had removed this off our tab completely, even though we took the shrimp and two sides. While there are some positives, we most likely would not be returning at our next Delaware field trip. It is still worth a try! read more

I'm officially done with Cheddars restaurant. Let's start with the service.....lazy waitress. Ordered their cranberry cocktail. The first one came out with no alcohol. We didn't get the cranberry juice and alcohol until our dinner was done. Only ask her 12 times. Next is the food.....where do I start? Ordered the Cheddar Bites.....not hot and not crispy. Their Monte Crisco used to be excellent at this location and the fries crispy. I think they used pancake batter on the sandwich and the fries were not crispy. A little cold and soggy. The salad with chicken was missing salad type ingredients. Who wants just lettuce and chicken? Lastly the place wasn't clean. This was the last good location that I knew of. The one in Greenville, South Carolina is 100 times worse. read more

I hate to give you a bad review, but our experience was horrible we will never go back on a Saturday again because Kim is off. We never got cresonts, my husband ordered the kids chicken Alfredo with extra chicken. He didn't get he ordered broccoli ​he ordered cheddar cheese Which was 1.95. For a kids Alfredo it was way to much pasta.I ordered the beef tips with the potatoes ,it tasted good but the 4 pieces of steak. I got 13.99 not again. I almost chocked on the meat it was so tough.. I'm a Cheddars fan. I'm so glad that this Cheddars is close by in Newark. I've eating at Cheddars in York Pa, Virginia and Texas. My favorite sandwhich, without a doubt is the Monte Cristo. The Monte Critsto is a lunchtime or dinner meal My favorite dish is the Chicken Fried Chicken. I would rate Cheddars above Texas Roadhouse, Applebees and Chilis. If Cheddars served breakfast, I would rate it above Cracker Barrel. read more

Cheddars has been open a little over a week and they definitely have some things to work out. If you want to eat here any time soon, I strongly suggest adding your name to the waitlist which you can do so online. I went on a Tuesday evening and you would have thought it was the weekend. I was seated after a 45 minute wait. You can order bar drinks, appetizers and kids meals from the table kiosk but everything else you have to order from your server. My server was so busy, she didn't mention her name. The honey butter croissant was tasty. You will only get a croissant for the number of people in your party. If you want extra, you will have to pay for them. I ordered the Key West chicken and shrimp. The entree comes with two sides. The portion size was good, but the food was slightly on the cold side. First impressions on the decor and looks of the restaurant is very nice and aesthetically pleasing. The croissants at the beginning were amazing. I haven't been to Cheddars in 10 years so I was very impressed. I got the chicken pot pie and mashed potatoes for a side. My husband got a steak and sides. Chips and queso was ordered for our app. Which btw, if you get on their rewards ahead of time you can get that app for free. I enjoyed my food. It was extremely hot so if we weren't in a rush I probably could have sat there for a good 30 min and it still would have been piping hot. The waitress was great and very attentive. The cook or manager did come back and ask clarification on our order so I'm glad she did or it would have been made wrong. Cooked just right - meat ready to fall off the bone and sauce layered on top before being served. That was soon after they first opened!! Next 2 visits was a whole different story. Ribs were overcooked - looked like blackened ribs. Asked for extra sauce to make it palatable. In November I took a chance and suggested Cheddars for a party of 6. Four of us had ribs and no one enjoyed them! Dry, overcooked and no sauce on top to help make it easier to digest! Cheddars has great potential but looks like they're switching up cooks who don't know how to cook ribs. Ribs should never be hit or miss! My brother had the meatloaf- recently added to the menu. He said it was delicious. If you like meatloaf - try it now before a new cook or a new recipe is used! read more

We decided to stop in after a shopping trip to Cabalas. We are from NJ and don't know the area. Unfortunately all it takes is a few bad reviews and you would think twice about going somewhere. So glad we gave this place a try. Came at 4:00 after a few minutes, we were sat down, ordered some apps and drinks, which came in a timely fashion. We ordered ribs, monte Crisco, cheeseburger, and 2 16ounce bone in ribeye dinners. Everything came out wonderfully prepared and not too long of a wait. This was our first and definitely last visit to Cheddar's. As soon as we were seated, my husband said he had bad vibes. But we decided to give it a shot. Big mistake. We waited 10 minutes for our server to come to our table. She took our drink order. I had a coupon for free Chips and Queso for signing up for their EClub. I asked if we could go ahead and order the chips / queso awhile. Needless to say, we NEVER received the Chips and Queso and our server said she would have the manager take them off our bill????!!!!! Thanks...you're going to take a free item off our bill like you're really doing us a favor????? Okay, so back to our order / food. It took our server at least 10 minutes to bring our drinks - 2 unsweetened iced teas and a root beer. All 3 drinks should have taken a total of 2-3 minutes to bring to our table. Our server told us (for the first time) that our queso and chips would be right out. NOPE!!!! We sat there about 35 minutes waiting for our food and the server telling us 2 more times that our queso / chips would be right out. She kept blaming it on the kitchen One would think that queso and chips would be a quick fix. Obviously that is not the case at this Cheddar's location. Our food did finally arrive. My husband's ribs were so hard he couldn't eat them. My son's french fries were dark brown. My salmon was warm on the side of cold. The manager did come to our table after the server told her about the chips / queso. She was the only saving grace about our whole dining experience. She was very apologetic and told us to please come back, ask for her and she will make sure she seats us in a good section with a good server. I thanked her but told her I seriously doubt that we would be back. She said they were very short staffed. Sorry, that is not a good excuse. They should have either called other staff in, put the hosts on the floor (there were 3 hosts) or put the managers out on the floor. And the servers they had were definitely not hustling for being short staffed. It is a shame that we had such a horrible experience. So many people have told us how good Cheddar's is.
