I finally got to experience a little bit of normalcy today. I went to Cheddars to have lunch with some family members. Working under some Covid restrictions is certainly challenging for most restaurants. All staff were wearing masks, distancing between tables, sanitizer available, tables disinfected, disposable menus, etc. Certainly inconvenient but we managed to have a good time. All 6 of us were pleased with what we ordered. Our server, Olive was very attentive and delivered everything we asked for and kept checking on drinks, etc. I am not fond of their limited menu at the moment, but I understand the need for it. We all had to make some adjustments to what we would normally order, but we were happy just the same. Their prices are very good, especially since everything is scratchmade. 3 of us had alcoholic beverages and 3 of us had iced tea. Steaks, ribs, salmon, chicken tenders and salads were consumed and the bill only totaled $108. I am looking forward to Cheddars bringing back some of my favorites and having a bit more "normal" dining experience, but until then, they rocked it with the restrictions and tools they have to work with. We really like the food here. I have one request and that is to provide more healthy selections: baked fish, chicken etc. Grilled food shouldn't be drowning in oil or butter. And more steamed vegetables would be appreciated as well. Of all the sides listed, we only eat the steamed broccoli. This is all of Cheddars restaurants, not just this site. For a chain restaurant, this was actually really good. Very pleasantly surprised by short wait, prices and food quality for a chain. This one is a bit on the loud side, so its hard to hear other people and there are kids running around from time to time, so do keep that in mind. My friend and I both were in the mood for fish, so I opted for the lemon pepper catfish (lunch portion) with broccoli and mashed potatoes while my friend got the citrus miso glazed salmon. Neither are dry, both are packed with flavor and the vegetables were tender. Unless you're really hungry, lunch portion will satisfy you. The rice was a bit clumped and hard. Still given the price and what I was expected, far exceeded expectations. Give it a try, as I'm sure it'll exceed yours too. read more

We got a togo order from these guys that was done incorrectly. The manager on duty said that if we come back in for the order then he would replace it but when we actually tried to get it replaced another manager on duty told us that they "don't do that" and only send out gift cards for orders that are messed up. I tell her nicely that the manager at the time made it sound very simple and easy - to "just come in and pick up the correct one" and then she goes on to tell me "we never do that here" implying that I am telling a fib. This is just not how businesses should be run. We have a newborn and were going to add more to this togo order since we can't really cook a lot at the moment but now we have to go somewhere else since they are treating us like we are trying to fraud them over a chicken fried chicken meal. We were frequent visitors here and this is really just a sad day for us as local Cedar Park residents. UPDATE : Someone from Cheddar's asked me to contact them. It's a chain restaurant. Good prices, good portions, ok food, and everything else is just mediocre. I don't know why a waitress would ask if we want our drinks refilled when they were empty and our food still wasn't out. One of my side dishes was incorrect but it was still veggies so I didn't say anything. There was a mechanical gear sound the whole time I think it may have been those huge dusty ceiling fans. Some music would be nice. The carpet looked pretty dirty the whole time. Some of the workers appeared stressed out. read more

I usually don't have a problem with this location, but today was the total opposite! The customers were even rude! Beyond impolite. My 2 year old nephew busted out in a loud cry & people kept staring through out our meal. Then our waiter lady, came to give us our receipt five minutes after our food came out!! Talking about "no rush guys, but here's the receipt." I've hasn't even had time to melt. I was thinking desert, but since everyone & their waiters are so quick to get us out of here never mind! Now, we had a table of 10 & as the waiter was cleaning up she starting shouting "DOES ANYONE WANT ANYTHING WHEN I GO BACK THERE!" Like there wasn't already enough attention on us. What? Does she have limited "to the kitchen"? I guess it was my mistake for thinking this restaurant was a family friendly location. It will be a looong while before I even consider coming back again. We have been eating here for years but it's always the same ole stuff when you eat at the bar. They are Always understaffed, Always! So the day time bartender has to wait on all bar patrons, as well as deal with all the take out food, plus today she had to wait on every single table in the bar. She did the best she could as busy as it was but it's the same stuff no matter when you go into this particular Cheddars. They are managed terribly and they recently lost their long time day bartender, like 10 or 11 years there, because of this! They need a new General Manager to fix this! Food is always good and drink prices are fair (when you can get one) but this is an on going flaw which ads to poor customer service! And why should the bartender have to deal with take out food orders when she has a bar full of people that have empty drink glasses and want to order food? Fix it! read more

We ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich. It looked great!! It is a deep fried sandwich with cheese, ham, and different deli meats inside of it. My first bite as a big surprise, as the outside was hot, but the inside was cool. I guess I expected something deep fried to be hot all the way through. Went to this location on 7/22 with my boyfriend and son (my son is 15 months old) which he is in his toddler stage and will not sit still for anything and will not stay still in a high chair ever. So we always take him to restaurants and stores in his stroller which shouldn't be an issue at all. We went to this location around 2 or so, which it wasn't really busy at all! So the hostess was like is he staying in that? And I was like yes he won't sit in a high chair. And it's like she had a problem with it. So she says let me see if I can sit you anywhere and had to go get her manager. I'm sorry but it wasn't busy at all what so ever so it really shouldn't have been a issue. And the manager tells her they can really sit any where and it's as if she had an issue! Then the service was horrible as ever, I never go to this location I just happened to be in the area. Then when we are almost finished with our food the hostess who had an issue with the stroller, her family came to eat. And she sits them in a booth right by us at a dirty table, because the man who cleans up wasn't done and I over heard him saying they can sit their but I'm not done cleaning the table and he walks away for a moment and out loud she says "ugh I can't stand him I hate him so much" like if you don't like your job you don't have to be here. Oh man. This place. I tried this place out with my boyfriend and they gave us the fluffiest most delicious croissants I have ever had in my entire life. The waiter checked on us constantly and was great help when decided what to get, the food came out fast and was made exactly how we wanted. We even got free cookies and a coupon for free queso! The price is what you would expect at chili's, as well as noise level. I'll definitely be coming back for the queso and more croissants! :D read more

I've been here twice and eaten it 3 times (once to-go) and it's still one of my favorite budget American sit-down restaurants. Got great service both times I came with the toddler and food was good. Not a fan of their chicken pasta but the ribs and shrimp meal was good for the price. They also have lunch specials for $7. I have to say, I would never normally order a steak at a non-steak place but I was instructed to up my protein intake, sooooo... a steak it was! Ordered a 20oz bone-in ribeye steak with 2 sides of broccoli casserole & it was amazing!!! Ordered it medium rare & they cooked it perfectly! It was topped with parsley bits and melted butter and was seasoned well. A little bit of gristle but not too much! For $20, I got a steak lunch and also had some leftover to share with the husband who definitely envied the picture I sent him. He also agreed it was a tasty steak. We'll be back :) read more

A great choice for affordable food in an upscale atmosphere. The decor will make you feel like you're at a nice steakhouse (with some fun elements like the fish tank), but unfortunately, the food is underwhelming. This was our second visit to Cheddar's and both times, the food was only meh, even though experience was overall a positive one. Now, the food is pretty good considering how affordable the entrees are ($10-15 for most), but definitely nothing to brag about. My steak was well-seasoned, but overcooked. My mac and cheese side was drowning in soupy sauce and looked like someone had dropped a full slice of cheddar on top and half-melted it. My husband's ribs were also nicely sauced, but not cooked great. The only thing I really liked were the fried cheese appetizers--those were bite sized and generously portioned (sometimes you buy $7 mozzarella sticks and get like 4, but this basket could have fed 3-4 of us!). I will give kudos to the staff for excellent customer service on a busy Saturday night. Nice restaurant and ambiance. Easily accessible from highway 183. The parking is pretty tight. The onion rings are out of this world fantastic! Otherwise, the food is pretty mediocre. I will say they serve hot food, so that is a bonus. However, the chicken fried steak has way too much breading. The mashed potatoes and gravy are good, and the green beans taste like heated canned beans. The monte cristo was not so great. The service is pretty good and friendly. I really don't believe we will be back anytime soon, as it just wasn't enough to warrant another visit. This is subjective and may have to do more with our preferences. However, if you find yourself in this area, it may be worth a try, just for the onion rings. They were outstanding! read more

Horrible customer service!!! We waited at least 10 minutes to be seated because the only booth that was available in the bar area was dirty. The waitress didn't acknowledge us at all. She walked past us multiple times. The person who finally came to clean the table flopped down into the seat like she had an attitude. Ambience - The interior is a very nice cozy almost log cabin feeling. The whole atmosphere is very vibrant and has this nice feeling. The furniture still looks nice and in shape despite this place being here a long time. The bar is a nice horseshoe bar with a nice aquarium and several TVS. The main dining room has some nice natural lighting from there being a window on the roof. But the whole vibe here is nice, homey and it was a clean looking store. Service - Probably some of the worst i have had. I dont know if it was because they were busier than normal but my server just had weeded all over her face. We came in around 4 and only saw 1 other server. I only saw about 6 other tables with guests so i am unsure if this was a staffing issue, the server just sucking or whatever. Anyways, so first off she comes and and very quickly says "What do you want to drink?" Not a Hi my name is so and so, how are you? And as soon as we told her her next question, which she also quickly said, was Do you know what you want? Umm....well no, because i have only been sitting here less than a minute. So as we were saying "No, we will need a few minutes?" She had already darted off before we could finish our sentence. The only time we saw her after that was when our food came out she came up very quickly, again. And just asked if it came out right. And off she went. Then she dropped the check without even asking if we need refills, condiments, more food or even a togo box. This server was very unattentive, had no personality and you could just see it in her eyes that she was either weeded or just plain sucks. Sorry not sorry, but try harder and dont let people know you suck. And the other server was was a fairly elderly lady looked like she was going senile. Her eyes just wandered and walked around like she was lost. Menu - It is a standard American Country type menu. It has all the main classics of meatloaf, tenders, seafood, pastas and so on. Similar to other places. The menu is very solid thou with a little bit of everything and plenty of choices. They sport that they are a scratch kitchen but in my opinion based on the food, this is either false or the food just is very mediocre at best. The wife got the chicken tenders with fried shrimp and mac and cheese. I got the chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed taters. So the tenders and shrimp were probably the only good thing we had. They were fried nicely, nice and crispy and had some decent flavor. There were a few dry spots in the tenders but it was nominal. The mac and cheese was pretty gross thou. It was very very grainy. Like the cheese is powdered or something. Or maybe not melted correctly. It was not very good. My green beans were decent, had some nice flavor and cooked well. The mashed taters had a great consistency and looked like handmade taters. But there was way to much seasoning. It was very overpowering and made me pucker a little bit. Now for the main tamale...errr......steak? The chicken fried steak was a pathetic excuse to its name. This was an imposter and quite frankly the worst i have ever had. First off, the breading literally wasnt even attached to the steak. It was like wrapping paper. It was like a piece of meat just put into an oversized fried batter bag. The actual steak itself was much smaller than what it appeared to be. The meat literally just came right out of the breading. The steak itself was extremely dry, chewy and had a very unusual taste. The only thing that comes to mind is that it was overly starchy. Like just eating pure starch. The meat had no flavor and that weird taste was very off putting. Only reason i ate it was because i was starving and didnt want to upset the wife. The worst chicken fried steak ever and the rest was just mediocre at best. Overall - its a standard chain and im sure they have some decent dishes. But i would avoid what i had. As my wifes food was ok so im sure others are too. Plus the price point is actually pretty cheap. Not saying its a bad restaurant but considering my lackluster steak and the terrible service i can only give 2 stars. I literally had to walk into the entrance of the kitchen it gets someones attention that my wife needed a togo box. Thats just freaking sad. If you want some ok food at a great price than yeah this could be your spot. But for me, i would rather slit my wrist than be treated like a piece of $hit by the servers for just subpar food. Much of the experience was 4 star. Food and atmosphere was good. I had the fresh homemade chicken pot pie, which tasted as such. My wifes salmon was very good. My salad was decent. The main detail that was a little bothersome was the wait staff. I knew what items I wanted and ordered them, and with each item, the wait staff person tried to upsell each item. This seems like a training issue, she was attentive and courteous. We've eaten here numerous times and the food has always been very good. I've had sandwiches, burgers, chicken fried steak and chicken (love the gravy) and steaks just to make a few. The steak is very good and very reasonably priced. Ask for a side of the bourbon glaze and dip your steak bites into that little cup of deliciousness. The service has always been good on our visits. We've sat in the bar area and the regular seating, and I prefer the bar area. There are tv's in case a game is on and the vibe is just a little more upbeat. This isn't my first time here but this is the first review that I'm making. Me and my two friends were here just for drinks and we had dinner at a restaurant before here but of course the staff didn't know that. We had a pain killer which was a two drink minimum and we had the top shelf margarita which is another really strong drink and because we didn't order food the manager came Monique came over and said she'll order us croissants on the house just to make sure we were able to drive home. I thought that was very smart and responsible although we already ate before but it shows that they really care about their customers and I for one admired that and I will come here again and again because I felt important. At first I thought this place was just another trendy hipster joint. While the hipsters crowd this place up (normal for the area though) it is worth fighting your way through all the fixed gear bikes to get some blue tuna jalapeno poppers and a mug of pabst. I'm just now getting around to trying this place even though it is pretty close to my neighborhood. We had the potato skins as an appetizer and they were very tasty. To drink, I ordered the spiked cherry limeade. It was alright but I'm used to stronger drinks and found this to be just ok. I'm not complaining about that at all though. We had a good waiter who had a very good sense of humor. This place was packed when we went and they have this fan in the middle of the restaurant that will definitely get your attention. I wanted to take a picture of it but I forgot to. Because they were so busy, it was a bit of a wait for the food; but again, I'm not complaining. I was so busy engaging in conversation that I didn't really notice it. Everything that I ordered was hot, fresh and good. No complaints there. I had the chicken tenders, a baked potato and some fries. All of it was delicious. There was a lot of food that I took home because they do give you a lot for the price. We could not finish it all and I have 2 boys with very big appetites. Oh, and the prices are not bad either. Overall, a pleasant experience. read more

Update MINUS 2 STARS: My experience on Friday 6/23 First, I was sat at a table that was dirty. I didnt notice until my hands and elbows got very sticky. Then I told the waiter to wipe off the table and a girl came over with cleaner and spritz the table (and it kind of got on me). I cannot believe she did not ask us to get up. Then I went into the restroom and none of the paper towel machines worked. Thirdly, my food was served luke warm. OHH and my croissant was served without honey butter again. Okay so as with most of my reviews, I'm going to give the good, the bad and the ugly here. Some background. I'm a very busy mom, I have 2 kids, one is 6 and the other is 2. My mother also came with me and she is disabled, so this will have everything to do with comforts, amenities and kid friendly as well as food, cleanliness and staff. Here are the positives aka The Good! They have an impressively cool looking celing fan. It's worth looking at. The waitstaff is EXCELLENT. We had one of the finest waitresses that I have ever seen. She not only got our drink refills promptly, but she even took care of refilling my daughter some fries when her baby brother took half of them. The woman was exceptional, and deserved every bit of the tip I left, if not more. The place is very clean. It's so clean they clean when they are not busy. They were not idle waitstaff, they literally kept working even when they didn't have to, which really says a lot to management and cleanliness. The food was amazing. Portion sizes are rather large and very good for the price. I had whitefish with a side salad, and it was fantastic. The fish was well seasoned, cooked to perfection and the salad was not oily or wilty at all. Salad can be hit or miss sometimes, but they did well. My mother ordered chicken fried steak, with potatoes and green beans. The potatoes, gravy, green beens, and breading on the steak were amazing. The steak itself was overcooked, but she was willing to put up with that given how well everything was seasoned and otherwise presented. Here are the neutrals: (Not bad, but not good) Both of my kids ordered mac and cheese. If you go to Chili's, Applebees, etc, beware they do not do mac and cheese like the other chains. These were shells and baked mac & cheese. My son who is 2, had no idea what it was and wouldn't eat it. So we ordered them both a side of fries. My daughter had her fries and mac & cheese which she said was fantastic. My son loved the fries. Also beware, if you have kids they do not do children menus that can be colored on or played with. If you like going to the big chains for distraction while you pretend to have a decent meal, and you have a little one with you, this is a thing. It's up to you the parent to supply the distraction. Ours came in the form of the indestructible drink menu for my son to point out his colors and the shapes of the various glasses. Restrooms are very difficult to find. My mother who is disabled spent 10 minutes looking for a restroom until finally someone was kind enough to point out where it was. The Bad/Ugly So this seriously had me very close to demanding a manager or walking out. I have issues when there is a Hostess who does nothing. They have one of those. This woman invites you in with a "Ehhh" and a look of pain on her face when I said "Four please" followed by "And please can we have a highchair?" "We don't have highchairs" she says. Who doesn't have highchairs in this day and age and offers a childrens menu for kids 2 to 12. I did look that up prior to the visit, which is the entire reason we showed up in the first place. So I give her a look of amazement and she says "We have boosters, will that work?" and I nodded. Boosters with a 2 year old are a GIANT pain in the rump. It means one adult has to spend the entire meal basically hugging their child in place in a booth in hopes that the kid behaves and that they can personally eat with one hand. My son is a good boy, but he's 2. We are working on his social skills, which is why we ate dinner at 3:45PM and not had him there during the dating crowd or busy lunch time. Not only did she only get a booster and pass it off with disgust, but she also said "We only have 2 menus" and plopped them down unceremoniously. Remember the restroom debacle I mentioned earlier. Well my mother got a tour of the building and found a mountain of boosters and highchairs. So the woman lied to my face. My mother after her visit with the building, brought me a highchair that she scooted along with her cane and my daughter's help. So we strapped the boy down and had a much better meal.. The one and ONLY reason I did not raise a stink right then and there was I remembered 2 things. 1, I love Yelp. 2. The waitress had been lovely up to this point. After we had our own highchair the meal was fantastic. But the hostess spent the rest of the afternoon on her perch being just as unpleasant as she had been prior to my face. What's the point of having a hostess if they are going to be like this, I wonder? I thought the whole idea was that they were supposed to be a warm presence to help you get to your seat, get you what you need and make you feel at home? Maybe I was wrong. If all she's going to do is stand there and be frustrating, than maybe you shouldn't have one. The only really bad thing about the experience was the hostess, she did not make me feel welcome. read more

What I like: The tiled floor; the brick walls with oval arches; the fish tank; the wooden table tops; the color scheme; the friendly service; and, the music. What I don't like: They only have seven drafts, all American; they measure their pour; bar prices; the menu; the food; and, those annoying oar fans( or wtf they are). Cheddar's doesn't need a 33rd review, but my expectations were low and it's CHEAP. Lord it's cheap: I forgot people would let you sit in a chair or put a shirt on a waiter for that little money, much less warm up a fair-sized meal. Yes, it's teeming with hoi polloi, but my cocktail, the "Cheddars Painkiller", was terrific -- far more interesting and delicious than the Austin trailer food I purchased from cool tattooed people last week. I thought I was getting a tropical cocktail with orange juice, pineapple juice, and coconut cream (I love coconut), garnished with a pineapple slice. But, to my surprise, its rim was also dipped in honey and rolled in toasted coconut.. two more things I love. For a drink that includes a favorite thing to have two more surprise favorite things was just shocking. Also, $5.50. You can't even get a burger for that at Terra Burger. Service: good attitude, no long waits. Food: fair, but the broccoli was slightly freezer-burned or otherwise dried out. Salmon slightly below standard (but large piece, and cheap) and broccoli-cheese casserole good. read more
