I have ordered take out from Cheddars twice in the last month. I find the service and the food to be very good. I must say, I ate here about 4 years ago, and found the food and service to be so-so. But I think the restaurant has made improvements over the years to keep up with all the restaurants in Asheville. The food is very good, and if you order take out, they package everything in a separate container. So, if you order the chips and queso with beef; they will place the queso/beef, and salsa in separate containers, so the chips stay fresh and crispy. read more

Quality and service took a hit here. Was sifted and had ordered fir a good 10-15 minutes before croissants were brought out. Baked potato was not hot or cooked enough, butter and cheese didn't even melt. One burger ordered medium well was blackened on the outside and over done and chewy. The lettuce was not fresh. Only received half of our order and Sara the waitress would not bring rest of order. She assumed we did not want the sides. The manager Taylor was not willing to assist in resolving our issue. OMG this was one of the BEST Cheddar experiences.... stopped for a early dinner the waitress was friendly, bathrooms was clean and the food was seasoned to perfection. I order the veggie plate with a Caesar salad they forgot my cheese but I didn't worry. Green bean was bursting with flavor, garlic butter broccoli, baby carrots were sweet and let's not forget the mashed potatoes was also very tasty. I was impressed my sister ordered the key west chicken and shrimp (hold the shrimp) broccoli casserole and broccoli. I am a waitress myself and absolutely HATE to leave a review, but I wanted to leave this for other people who are not able to eat out all the time, and don't want to waste the money on a bad experience. Upon being seated we ordered food immediately. We sat on the left hand section, and sat at about 1:00 pm on 08/26/2023. Once the food came out our waitress in the span of about fifteen minutes, checked on us 6 times. She dropped the check off after sitting us both down full plates of food, and only about three minutes after that brought us boxes for our fully uneaten meals. I caved and decided to pay, hoping she would leave us to eat, and she continued to come over and ask us what we needed or if we needed drinks to go, while still having two full plates of food. I even tipped 25%, maybe thinking that it was just an off day, and that she wouldn't have to worry about us once she got our tip. I would not have left that much had I known that she would continue to push us out of the restaurant. Frustrated and uncomfortable we left, needing 4 boxes to fit our full meals, and opted to eat in the car. I have never written a review about a server experience, but this was the worst I have ever had. read more

The attitude of the lady handling curbside pick up was completely unacceptable. I did not put a tip on my card when I placed the order because I was going to give a cash tip. The lady brought out my food was very nice and gave me the receipt to sign, which I did. I handed it back and said thank you. The cash tip was sitting on the passenger seat. The lady grabbed the booklet out of my hand, stormed off mad giving me a dirty look. If she had not had a bad attitude I would have been happy to tip her. But she made an assumption about me. First and last dining room experience here at Cheddar's. What a massive disappointment after rave reviews from family. We sat at the bar because there was a long wait for the dining room and there were just 2 of us. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks ordered, another 10 to get our food ordered, then another 40 minutes to get the food. The guy next to us, who ordered food after us, received his meal 15 minutes before we decided to leave. By the time the food arrived, we asked for the check, didn't want the food, and the manager never came over to apologize for the inconvenience. For a go-to local bistro Cheddar's seems to cover all the necessary bases - variety menu with something for everyone, very decent prices, pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. I especially appreciate their lighter options - just had the tilapia with shrimp and mango salsa and couldn't fault a single bite. Atmosphere was nice . There were TVs everywhere and a nice huge fish tank. The sirloin was a tad overcooked and over spiced. It was a little bland along with the shrimp i had to dip it in sauce. The appetizers are healthy portions and the sides are very good especially the broccoli The menu was very fair priced although there was some confusion occasionally with the wait staff. The booths were nice but the table was to tall for the booth. I would give Cheddar's the same rating as a chili's it is an average restaurant with average food and an average staff. 3 stars read more

Came out tonight with a group of friends. They did seat us at a table where 8 of us were able to be together. Our waitress was ok, a few times we ended up with empty glasses several times. Food quality was ok as usual, but when it came to dessert, that was not so good. Ordered the monster cookie and bit into a button, yes, a shirt BUTTON. It easily could have broken a tooth or chocked someone. Showed waitress and she advised kitchen (which no one seemed to lose any buttons), they took the dessert off the check, which after 3 bites I had no desire to eat anymore of, and gave a $5 gift card. At 3:20 p.m. this restaurant isn't busy but when I walked in asked for a booth with my 2 interracial granddaughters I was treated like they didn't have time for us. The host looked around the restaurant for us a booth the second host came up and looked at me then said it will be just a minute and I said we can just sit in the bar area if that is easier and she responded "well good someone will follow you to the table of your choice. Then an interracial young lady brought us our menus and flatware about 4 minutes later. No one followed us... Our waitress didn't act like she was to thrilled to be waiting on us. I'll still leave her a nice tip because I don't know what she is going through. Body language says it all...But the cook that brought me our food was so nice greeted me with a smile and even laughed with me. read more

Cheddar's is a 6 out of 5. We had to wait longer for the cheese to be made for our nachos, so the waiter brought us a complimentary honey butter croissant for the entire table. This place is A-OK! The service is alright, the food is alright, and the prices are alright. You totally pay for what you get here. My sister and I were planning on making a quick run to the Wal-Mart and planning on doing some other shopping in the area when she suggested grabbing a drink! Drinks always make shopping more fun. So, we decide to stop in for a glass of wine. Our server was pleasant but not very attentive or happy to be there. She served us without complaint but also without a smile. Our wine was not bad, we even decided to stay for a second glass and our food was just alright. We ordered spinach artichoke dip which came with tortillas and salsa??? Odd. The artichoke dip also had sour cream on it which I found a little creepy. I don't visit a ton of chain restaurants given that there are so many small, local business I like to try. But when I'm in Asheville visiting the fam, I can't help dropping in for some fish tacos at Cheddar's. It's ideally located (next to Petco and Kohl's) and has a pretty varied selection of food. I can go there with all or some of my family and we can all order something that suites our specific tastes. When there, my dad pretty much always orders the burger, I ALWAYS get the fish tacos and my mom always gets the chicken tenders. We don't stray much from those dishes because they do them so well. I also love the tortilla soup when it's cool out. I've had just about every side and haven't been disappointed, but there is just something about tortilla soup. If you find yourself in need of food and don't want to be bothered with the long lines of some of the local, Asheville hot spots, try Cheddar's. They'll take good care of you, and you are sure to find something to satisfy any mood. read more

My son's hamburger was sent back because it had hair on it. His mac & cheese tasted like stale bread, which would I presume is what the "breading" scattered on top of it. Used to frequent Cheddars last year but have found more interesting places to go to eat in the Asheville area. Went there today for the chicken sandwich I always used to get only to find they have changed the menu. As usual service was slow and I had to listen to the server complaining about having to work two jobs when he finally showed up. Ordered the Cheddar's Club and boy oh boy was I disappointed. I ordered it with southern style green beans. First of all it was served like a regular sandwich and not like a club. I did not want a regular sandwich or I would have ordered one. Next the turkey was obviously processed prepackaged meat as was the ham. It was served on toasted white bread. Tasted like something I could have made at home after a quick trip to the convenience store. The green beans were fresh out of a can and tasted like oil. My wife ordered a chicken ceasar salad with pasta in it, which she said was not good either. Why would you add heavy duty carbs to salad? All in all the new menu is poor. Different member of the wait staff brought our appetizer. Completely different member of the wait staff brought our food. Had to ask for our waitress to get drink refills. Excellent food; excellent service; excellent atmosphere. Entrees and apps are wonderfully cooked and portions are generous. Servers are friendly and fast. And the "American good time eatery" is nicely understated. We enjoyed light, crispy onion rings, buttery-sweet croissants and salads, steamed veggies, fried shrimp, slaw and fries. The only improvement could have been hotter fries and fresher veggies. Still, Cheddar's is a reliable winner. And we'll go again and again. read more

This poor place needs so major revamping. New management and new staff, or maybe just some intense training. The last couple times we have been to cheddars have been a complete failure. It's very disappointing to have to choose to not go back somewhere when they have the best spinach dip. Tonight we was seated with no wait fairly quick. Should have been a red flag when it was 5:30 on a Friday evening Valentines weekend. The waiter was quick to get our drink order and appetizer order but took about 15 mins to get our waters to us. Then with our main course we got our food before our salads. I told him my potato was ice cold and he said "I'll be right back" and showed up with melted butter. He asked if we was paying cash or card and if we needed to go boxes when he literally brought our meal. I told him we had no idea, we had just started eating and he walked off. This is not normally the kind of place I like to eat (a chain), but every now and again I am on the losing end of a coin-toss - so I ate here. There are way too many good, independent restaurants in Asheville to come to a chain. I have to say, Cheddar's was fine - my meal was good. There wasn't much for me (vegetarian) on the menu, but there was a lunch combo of a baked potato and salad, very reasonable at $7. The salad was fresh and the 1,000 dressing was good. The potato was good too. The sweet tea was very good. But, the BEST part was the warm croissants with the honey on top. One came with my salad, but we ordered 3 more - they were SO good - worth a visit here. The inside is clean and very nice - cool decor, and a good place for a family with kids. I loved the high beam ceilings and the gorgeous, huge fishtank. The host was very nice, and our server was nice. Our salads came out in a reasonable amount of time, but the soup and baked potato took a while. But, it wasn't a big deal. It was a good dining experience -- for a chain restaurant. p.s. We had an early dinner at Cheddars, one of our favorite restaurants and so disappointed from the time we walked in until we left. Our table was sticky and smelled sour, we asked to move, our appetizer was not what we ordered and waiter suggested we eat it anyway because it was better than what we asked for. Appetizer that was brought to us was dried out and so obviously had been sitting out for quiet some time, and the waiter was shaking his head obviously very angry, at what we did not know. My dinner came with 2 sides and I only received one, I was actually leery of the waiter he was so upset. The manager did nothing except send someone else over, no apology, no nothing. I've been to Cheddar's Casual Cafe twice now and I have to say it is a pretty cool place. The parking lot is always packed on the outside but this building is bigger than it looks on the inside. We walk in and are greeted with happy hostess who take us to a huge booth no matter what the size of our party. Cheddar definitely made me realize how much elbow room I want when I'm eating. The food is usually good. We've never had anything bad but some has been disappointing in preparation, overcooked, side dish missing, and cold. All is fixable and better than me cooking! The thrill is gone. Cheddar's has long been one of our go-to places for many tasty menu options, good cheer, and low prices. The cheer disappeared on a recent visit, when we arrived 1 hour before (what we thought was) closing time. The place was nearly deserted, the waitresses scarce, and the bartenders announced last call soon after we sat down. To say that our waitress was perfunctory and terse is gracious. The mops and brooms came out along with our orders, to remind us that we were keeping them from closing early. Not my favorite dining experience. We told the waitress that it was very unwelcoming. She apologized, but I think the problem goes deeper than her service. Maybe this was an off day for Cheddar's. I hope so. But if this is their new look, it's not a good one. read more
