We had breakfast here because we had a free voucher, thankfully. Took a bit to be seated and plenty of empty tables. We were seated and told of the buffet and omelet station, no menu to order from. Once we got up, the omelet line was 12 people deep and one person making omelets so we promptly skipped that disaster. We opted for the buffet which was well picked through at only 9am and was a mess. The eggs were burnt to the pan, and a crumbled mess, probably because they were powdered. The bacon and sausage decent and unfortunately didn't try much else as the fruit was mostly empty and no options for healthier yogurt other than full fat, full sugar. The bill came at a hefty $40 price tag, which I gasped at! If I had to pay out of pocket I would have been angry, it was that bad. Service was nice, but overall it was dirty and unkept. Very disappointing for it being the Marriott!

I'm always surprised at the questionable ratings of Marriott properties restaurants! For hotel restaurants they can be fantastic! They're always well decorated, typically going with a theme of the local area, and their food is always quite good! No, it's not going to be a 5 star locals bistro that you talk about for years to come, but it's always going to be quite tasty! Writer's Bistro is no different as they went with the theme of authors from the Asheville area! A beautiful little Bistro that's right off the front entrance lobby that's worth a morning visit for breakfast!

We didn't know that this place existed but we are happy to know now! My husband and I are locals so obviously we don't have much need to stay at The Renaissance, but The Writer's Bistro was a lovely treat for our date night. The atmosphere is classy and romantic. The food is artfully and thoughtfully designed as well as delicious. The service was also a plus. Kimberly was friendly and very professional which enhanced our evening. There was a prix fixe menu tonight since it is Valentines weekend and it was very well priced. We look forward to coming back another time to enjoy another delightful evening. Whether you're just visiting or a local The Writer's Bistro is well worth it. (A side note: We parked free of charge in the parking lot directly behind the entrance to the hotel and walked in through the outdoor patio)

Let me start by saying the buffet is nothing great. It is similar to what you get at a limited service Marriott. The second morning I ordered off the menu and it was a huge improvement. Order off the menu.

Pretty good for hotel food. I had the huevos rancheros cheeseburger. It was cooked well and the ingredients were fresh

The ambience was very nice and the server was a real sweetie. However, my steak was overcooked and a bit tough. Blegh.

My fiancé took me here for my birthday, and I felt celebrated every step of the way. Our server Laura brought us a complimentary small bite before the meal and after dessert. She also made dessert super special and was kind and attentive the whole meal! The food was all phenomenal, I couldn't believe it was all gluten free. It felt very fresh due to the farm to table nature of the restaraunt. We started with the cheddar biscuits, which were a hit. My short rib with polenta and roast veggies was delectable and a very generous portion! Finally, we ordered 1 dessert but they brought us a trio. I was wowed by the cheesecake and olive oil cake! Would definitely return for date night or any other special occasion!

I was in communication with Lindsay for over four months while exploring options for hosting my wedding dinner in their private dining space. Out of more than 10 venues and vendors we considered, she was the only one who consistently showed up with prompt, thoughtful, and genuinely kind communication. Every question I had--no matter how detailed or repetitive--was answered with patience and care. She made herself available through all my moments of uncertainty, which, as any out-of-state bride can attest, is invaluable. When we finally visited in person, Lindsay went above and beyond by accommodating us outside of regular scheduling. Her attentiveness and warmth never wavered. Planning a wedding from afar can feel overwhelming, but having someone like her in your corner brings a level of reassurance that cannot be overstated. Dinner itself was nothing short of exceptional. We were served by Tennille, who elevated the entire experience. She was engaging, knowledgeable, and incredibly personable. Every dish was presented with intention, and she took the time to walk us through ingredients , local farm sourced education and preparation in a way that made the meal feel curated and special. You can tell she genuinely cares about the guest experience--it shows in every interaction. After dinner, we visited their second location to explore their private dining options. There, we met Pierre, who matched the same level of service and hospitality. He went out of his way to not only show us the space, but also recommend local after-dinner spots that could enhance the overall experience for our bridal party. That level of thoughtfulness and big-picture thinking is rare. Bottom line: this team understands that they're not just serving food--they're creating experiences. If you're looking for a venue that delivers on service, communication, and unforgettable dining, this is it.

Google calls it "American" cuisine, which is basically the one cuisine I don't do, but this place does offer some nice vegetarian options. Wanting to save some room for my food tour, I got a salad with a veggie skewer on top, but I did indulge in some lentil fritters. Fried bean paste is always a winner (technically lentils are not beans). The fritters were savory and the clash between their freshly fried texture and the cool dill-flavored dipping sauce and mixed pickled vegetables was quite robust. My salad delivered the promised crunch, and the shiitake shishito kabob had a wide variety of freshly barbecued vegetables, but unlike my appetizer this dish was missing an extra flavor touch. The drink and dessert selection looked good, but I like to spread myself around. I would definitely want to come back and eat outside on a warmer day.

During the warmer weather I am sure the patio is the spot to be. It was 23° so we stayed inside. Come! Be merry.

We ordered ours $7 hamburger patties that came in a dog bowl. So special! The fries here are fantastic. Wish I would have taken a photo. Just the right amount of crispness and seasoning. It's kind of a curly fry and kind of a wide short steak fry. Definitely tasty. 5/5 stars! Kale Caesar salad was bland. Not enough cheese or dressing. Probably 4 croutons. I got an extra side of dressing but the taste was a bit off and didn't really help. 1.5/5 stars there. Lots of good choices in the menu. One person ordered a burger with fries and another got the figgy piggy pizza. All agreed it was at least 4/5 good. Pizza had a lot of arugula on it (easy to take off a bit) and enough cheese to feel like you're eating a pizza vs a salad on a plate. Pizza was big- could easily be split. Burger bun was fresh and cheese melted was just right and a little thick/crispy which makes for beautiful presentation. Drinks were solid with a good selection. Prices for all were reasonable/to be expected. Service was very good. Park using the Park Mobile app on the street or in the surface lot across the street or just behind the building. We were able to make a reservation and got seated right away, which was nice, however most people just walked in. Would love to go back!

The Brussel sprouts were good, though not as crispy as stated in the description since it was covered in sauce. The sauce was delicious though so I forgive. The arancini with the marinara was so good! I loved it. It was cheesy and full of goodness. I want to apologize because I devoured my burger as soon as it arrived and didn't get a photo of it. The smash burger was indeed a smash burger and it was delicious. The patties were cooked to perfection, the bread toasted to perfection, the pickles placed exactly right and the magic sauce applied. I loved it and I will come back to this restaurant for another. Our waiter was also amazing. Definitely a great entry into Asheville. Thanks Payton!

The main courses, however, were great. The mussels tasted amazing and the lamb was incredibly tender. Other members of our party got the salmon and chicken and spoke highly of them. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable but perhaps suffered from the table layout which was tight and tucked away in the corner, and as a result multiple things were spilled on us and dropped on the table when clearing up. We were also served a warm, flat diet coke, but to the servers credit she took care of it immediately and replaced it with something else. We were surprised to read Lauren B's review below who, by her own admission, spent her anniversary dinner eavesdropping our table. Even if what she claimed we said was true (instead of making up quotes), it is totally inappropriate. Our subjective opinion on a dining experience is ours alone and just because someone else's experience was different, does not make ours untrue. Lauren arrived long after we did, so claiming to know what we had said or to claim to know of our experience is bizarre behavior. Claiming to hear our table say "we should disparage them on yelp" is a flat-out lie and makes no sense if we had said that before the food even came out. Wanting to leave reviews on a restaurant is not abnormal and discussing the value of a menu item does not equate to not being able to afford something or wanting "cheap eats". It is ironic that someone who understands empathy would go online and make personal judgements about someone based on their own subjective experience. So I would take her review with a grain of salt.
