I sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing, every drink had such fragrance to them, honestly it was one of the highlights of my night. I ordered the steak medium and it was served a littlw under cooked for my liking but had good flavor. The brussel sprouts were great. This is such a great stop after drinks at The Grove Park Inn. Made a reservation while we were sitting by the big fire having a cocktail and it was the right decision. We were warmly welcomed and seated at a great table in the main dining area. Kicked things off with a bread plate and bone broth and I would go back just for that, to be honest. My friend got the trout and it was really good and I had the Bolognese and enjoyed it very much. The only regret I had was not taking my leftovers, esp when I started craving it the next night. Gonna keep this one on my list of recommendations for friends going to Asheville and probably one of those places I go back to every visit. read more

We were driving up toward the Grove Park Inn when we spotted the quaintest little restaurant across the street -- Bone & Broth. It caught our eye instantly, so we decided to stop in for dinner, and we are so glad we did. Even without a reservation, the team welcomed us in right away, which was such a nice surprise. The ambience is simply beautiful. Dim lighting, exposed brick and cement walls, and even a living plant wall overhead made the space feel warm, stylish and inviting. We were greeted by our waitress Sarah who we enjoyed and had a lot of fun with. She made the evening fun and entertaining. We started with the bone broth soup, and my wife -- who is a huge broth fan -- said it was absolutely amazing. I ordered the beef tips with blue cheese penne sauce and added a side salad. The dish was rich and creamy and packed with flavor from the very first bite. Everything we had was wonderful, and the atmosphere made it even better. For dinner, I was craving bone broth, and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that a Google search would lead me to a restaurant actually named Bone and Broth that serves just that. I immediately told my family we had to go, even though we were still full from lunch and all-day snacking. I'm so glad we did because it turned out to be an amazing spot. The restaurant is charming, and the servers are just as delightful. Dave, who took care of us, was incredibly helpful and patient as we asked plenty of questions. For drinks, my husband ordered a dirty martini while I had an amaro sour. Both were very well made. I had been hoping to start with a fernet from local distillery Eda Rhyne, but they didn't have it on this occasion. We started with the Brussels sprouts, and I can see why they're one of the most popular appetizers. Crispy and perfectly paired with a lemon aioli, they were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them. For mains, my son had the ribeye, a generous 16 oz cut served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The steak looked fantastic, and the mashed potatoes were so dreamy he even ordered an extra side of them. My daughter enjoyed the steak and frites, while my husband ordered a cup of beef bone broth with a side of cubed steak bites. I went with the bone broth bowl, adding steak bites and omitting the pasta noodles. The result was a hearty, flavorful soup that hit the spot. The atmosphere is another standout. I couldn't help but notice how happy everyone looked as they left, and that says a lot. For our entrees we had the filet with mashed potatoes and a ribeye with charred brussels and broccoli. The meals were fantastic, flavorful and good portion size. The only thing I would say is the service was incredibly lacking. Our server had no warmth or personality. She greeted us flatly and then went on to say there are no specials and we aren't out of anything. Ok, strange greeting. Then something must have happened in the kitchen that delayed our entrees for a VERY long time. Rather then check in on us we had to ask what the delay was and she just said something had to be recooked. It was very off putting. I really enjoyed this restaurant. The staff was very attentive from the start, always clearing the table, setting it up for the next plate. The place had a great ambiance with dim lighting. The menu had great choices. The bone broth was super delicious. I ended up trying the pimento burger and fries. It was very tasty. You cannot stop eating the fries!! The burger had excellent flavor! This is a secret gem in the Charlotte street area. My bf and I went on a bike ride one day and stopped in to grab some drinks and that was the beginning of a wonderful relationship with the place. We came back another day for dinner where we shared a burger and deviled eggs. They may have been the best deviled eggs I'd ever had. And the burger was amazing. I returned a few more times and it was always a treat. I've tried a few meals, I may stick with their burgers though cause they hit so hard. I ordered the pimento burger (which came with fries) and my wife ordered the bolognaise (fresh linguini egg noodles | bolognaise sauce | grilled sourdough | parmesan | herbs). My burger was fantastic. The menu indicated that it was locally sourced and actually came from te butcher shop NEXT DOOR. The burger itself was one of the best I've ever had. A great burger coupled with the 5-pepper pimento topping was excellent. My wife said her bolognaise reminded her of the sauce we used to love at a long closed spaghetti shop in Cleveland, OH. The main course consisted of steaks for everyone and they were prepared very nicely. Mine was slightly over-cooked, so they re-fired one for me without question. The service is impeccable- water was refilled quickly and often, plates were removed promptly, food came faster than I expected. With all of that said- not once did we feel rushed. We decided to eat here on the last night of our honeymoon and we weren't disappointed! We asked around where we could get a good steak dinner and while it didn't beat out our Texas steaks, it was the best overall dinner (for price, quality, and flavor) that we had all week. Overall 4.25/5 stars. The interior was cute, but we arrived 10 minutes after it opened at 4:30 pm on a Friday and we couldn't be seated at a table - no open tables until after 8 pm. That's fine, so we sat at the bar; however, there was a booth right behind us that was empty the entire time we were there. We started off with mocktails - the bartender came up with some concoction with gingerbeer and lavender? Doesn't matter, it was freaking phenomenal (5/5) and delicious! After chatting with another bartender, we decided on the following food: Ribeye - 3.8/5 - The ribeye was a little tough and not quite as flavorful as I was expecting. My husband got it with a side of green beans and okra. Green beans were ok. The okra was delicious - I definitely recommend the okra. Filet Mignon - 4/5 - Tender, flavorful, and a decent size. I got the standard sides of mashed potatoes and broccoli. The mashed potatoes were delicious and the broccoli was decent. Scallops - 6/5 - This was a seasonal item on the menu that I HIGHLY recommend. I'm not a scallops fan, but it's one of my husband's favorite dishes and this particular dish was the absolute BEST scallop meal he had ever had. He loved it so much that he ordered this AGAIN. (He took the ribeye back to our hotel and had it as a midnight snack!) You'll definitely want reservations or get there when it opens and eat at the bar. Parking is limited. So went here on a whim while in town. Menu looked good, reviews looked good, figured I was walking into a pretty good place to get a steak. Had the ribeye, the quality of the meat and the cook were on point, exactly what I expect at that price point. They offer an array of sauces with your steak, that should have been my first red flag. Went with no sauce and pretty much no seasoning on the steak. Pretty simple formula, oil, salt, pepper, and grill that sucker. Unfortunately the lack of seasoning carried into the potatoes, there's garlic there but not much else. The broccoli is apparently quite good as it picks up seasoning from the grill where they cook other dishes. We also had the cheesecake, this is the only slice of cheesecake my wife has failed to finish, pretzel crust? I had a bite and didn't get the pretzel but it wasn't a great example of a cheesecake I'll say that much. The service was great and very timely, on point and what you expect out of a place of this quality. The atmosphere, loud as all get out, nice soft music in the back and tables pretty much yelling at each other, could have toned down the whole room with some changes. The wife and I came to Bone and Broth for her birthday dinner, and it really happened randomly as a few other options we had marked down had no reservations available, so we landed on this spot due to an availability at 7pm. Best decision we could have made. Bone and Broth delivered in every single aspect and was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a very long time. When we arrived slightly earlier to our reservation, we were seated right away, and our server promptly arrived moments later to introduce himself and let us settle in before taking our drink and appetizer order, once we had a chance to review the menu. I want to take a moment here to talk about our server, Steve. Don't get me wrong, the food was fantastic from start to finish (more of that later) but it was Steve who made this a truly special night. He's one of the best servers I've had the pleasure of meeting and was so attentive to any needs the wife and I had throughout our dinner. Customer service goes a long way, and you can truly tell Steve is passionate about what he does. We were able to chat with Steve multiple times throughout the night and found out he's a former Bartender who's been in the service industry for 12 years. You can really tell how much expertise he has. Just an awesome guy who really gave us a phenomenal service on my wife's birthday. My overall experience with this restaurant was somewhat marginally compared to other restaurants I've been to. Maybe it was a rainy day, but I didn't get a very good first impression of the hostess. We had an excellent waitress so somehow that made up for everything else. The food was a bit overpriced and underwhelming, nothing I would brag about. Muscles were chewy and had a bitter taste. Scallop dish was fishy and almost tasteless. Salmon was the only dish we thought was good. It was a bit noisy for a relaxed and romantic date night. Perhaps, a weeknight would be less noisy. I really like this restaurant, but I don't get to patronize it as often as I would like. I've had the Grilled Caesar Salad several times, and chef has it down to a science (crispy capers!). A few notes from this last visit... The Beef and Blue (s/b "bleu"?) is delicious yes. The quality of the frites was uneven; most were nicely cooked, but some were limp. Because they skimped on the bleu as well as the beef bits, not all of the flavors and textures were equally present. For a $15 appetizer, that's surprising. We've always enjoyed the shrimp and grits and this time was no exception. Fine, tasty shrimp. But again, skimped on the creamy yellow grits. For $25! We ordered a grilled-peach dessert. Because peaches are my favorite fruit, I pay special attention when their season comes on. This year, good peaches have been available unusually late into the season-- in fact, I mentioned it to the server, who was perhaps too young to be much interested in that kind of fine point. And sure enough, we had to send it back, because the peach was mealy. In its place, we chose the Limoncello olive oil cake with a raspberry-strawberry couli and amaranth-lavender crumble, which was stellar. Service was fantastic, our waiter was attentive quick and very helpful. I had the wedge salad that while similar to a standard wedge, it was not. Dinner for me was a great Fillet done exactly to my liking, with mashed potatoes and uniquely prepared broccoli that was fantastic.
