    Bone broth bowl.

We were driving up toward the Grove Park Inn when we spotted the quaintest little restaurant across the street -- Bone & Broth. It caught our eye instantly, so we decided to stop in for dinner, and we are so glad we did. Even without a reservation, the team welcomed us in right away, which was such a nice surprise. The ambience is simply beautiful. Dim lighting, exposed brick and cement walls, and even a living plant wall overhead made the space feel warm, stylish and inviting. We were greeted by our waitress Sarah who we enjoyed and had a lot of fun with. She made the evening fun and entertaining. We started with the bone broth soup, and my wife -- who is a huge broth fan -- said it was absolutely amazing. I ordered the beef tips with blue cheese penne sauce and added a side salad. The dish was rich and creamy and packed with flavor from the very first bite. Everything we had was wonderful, and the atmosphere made it even better. We are so happy we stumbled upon this place, and we absolutely recommend it. You will not regret giving Bone & Broth a try.

For dinner, I was craving bone broth, and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that a Google search would lead me to a restaurant actually named Bone and Broth that serves just that. I immediately told my family we had to go, even though we were still full from lunch and all-day snacking. I'm so glad we did because it turned out to be an amazing spot. The restaurant is charming, and the servers are just as delightful. Dave, who took care of us, was incredibly helpful and patient as we asked plenty of questions. For drinks, my husband ordered a dirty martini while I had an amaro sour. Both were very well made. I had been hoping to start with a fernet from local distillery Eda Rhyne, but they didn't have it on this occasion. We started with the Brussels sprouts, and I can see why they're one of the most popular appetizers. Crispy and perfectly paired with a lemon aioli, they were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them. For mains, my son had the ribeye, a generous 16 oz cut served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The steak looked fantastic, and the mashed potatoes were so dreamy he even ordered an extra side of them. My daughter enjoyed the steak and frites, while my husband ordered a cup of beef bone broth with a side of cubed steak bites. I went with the bone broth bowl, adding steak bites and omitting the pasta noodles. The result was a hearty, flavorful soup that hit the spot. The atmosphere is another standout. I couldn't help but notice how happy everyone looked as they left, and that says a lot. The combination of excellent service, warm ambiance, and flavorful dishes makes Bone and Broth a wonderful dining experience.

This is a nice restaurant that felt high end inside. It has a pretty brick exterior. Our server was so kind and attentive. We got the mushroom bisque and ceaser salad (not pictured), we had ordered an entree too, but we were so filled from the salad that we asked if we could cancel it and our server was very understanding about it. I can't wait to go back next time I am in town to try their entrees as they knocked the soup and salad out the the park.

Lovely restaurant! Warm, bar atmosphere with polished wood and comfy booths. Our server was attentive and knew the menu well so she could make suggestions. I had a summer salad with pickled blueberries and shrimp. It was wonderful! I also had an order of bread which was 2 slices of warm wheat bread with a choice of butters - I took the honey butter which complemented the bread well. My sister had the shrimp and grits which she loved. My brother in law had a veggies plate and enjoyed it.

We dined on Saturday night and we had a delicious meal. The overall ambience was perfect. A neighborhood restaurant with just the right amount of tables so it felt cozy and comfortable. We started with the bread and butter service. It was hard to choose which was between the herb or the honey butter. For our entrees we had the filet with mashed potatoes and a ribeye with charred brussels and broccoli. The meals were fantastic, flavorful and good portion size. The only thing I would say is the service was incredibly lacking. Our server had no warmth or personality. She greeted us flatly and then went on to say there are no specials and we aren't out of anything. Ok, strange greeting. Then something must have happened in the kitchen that delayed our entrees for a VERY long time. Rather then check in on us we had to ask what the delay was and she just said something had to be recooked. It was very off putting. I'm hoping we just had an inexperienced server and this isn't the norm. The food was definitely the saving grace of the night. Hoping others have a better service.

Absolutely 100% incredible. A must go. Atmosphere is casual chill, but you can dress to the nines if that's what you feel comfortable in. Bread service was delish. I didn't like the tallow butter(personal taste), but the herb and garlic butter knocked it out. We both had the filet. Cooked medium(perfect). Garlic mashed potatoes. I had Brussels sprouts and she had green beans. The house steak sauce would sell out if they bottled and sold it separately. Then we had the house made cheesecake, which was on the house because it was our anniversary. Make you a reservation and go!

This is a secret gem in the Charlotte street area. My bf and I went on a bike ride one day and stopped in to grab some drinks and that was the beginning of a wonderful relationship with the place. We came back another day for dinner where we shared a burger and deviled eggs. They may have been the best deviled eggs I'd ever had. And the burger was amazing. I returned a few more times and it was always a treat. I've tried a few meals, I may stick with their burgers though cause they hit so hard. But I'd recommend for foodies that like a different mix of flavors.

We picked this restaurant becuase it had great reviews on Yelp AND becuase it was a short walk from our hotel. We couldn't have made a better choice. I ordered the pimento burger (which came with fries) and my wife ordered the bolognaise (fresh linguini egg noodles | bolognaise sauce | grilled sourdough | parmesan | herbs). My burger was fantastic. The menu indicated that it was locally sourced and actually came from te butcher shop NEXT DOOR. The burger itself was one of the best I've ever had. A great burger coupled with the 5-pepper pimento topping was excellent. My wife said her bolognaise reminded her of the sauce we used to love at a long closed spaghetti shop in Cleveland, OH. She said it was superb. Service was excellent. The restaurant was quite noisy which did make it a little hard to carry on a conversation.

While in the area for business we came here for dinner... our server was great! The menu is awesome! The venue is beautiful and quaint! We started with their mussels and the broth they were in was excellent; the mussels were fresh and tasty as well. Next was soup, I got the broth and the other got a mushroom bisque and we all enjoyed our soup course. The broth was rich and flavorful. The main course consisted of steaks for everyone and they were prepared very nicely. Mine was slightly over-cooked, so they re-fired one for me without question. The broccoli and mashed potatoes that comes with the steak were both excellent! Finally, their cheesecake for dessert was perfect! They have a very nice wine list here and serve a decent amount by the glass too. Overall, we all enjoyed this visit... I'd definitely return!

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.

Fried bean paste is always a winner (technically lentils are not beans). The fritters were savory and the clash between their freshly fried texture and the cool dill-flavored dipping sauce and mixed pickled vegetables was quite robust. It may have just been an off night, but our server felt a little scattered. One of our guests was initially served a lukewarm, flat Coke in a very small bottle, which was surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. To her credit, she replaced it with a Mexican Coke and didn't charge us, which we appreciated. Still, overall guidance on the menu and pairings would have elevated the experience. At the end of the day, the biggest issue was the pricing. The food was good, but not nearly good enough to justify how expensive everything was.
