Our guests kept talking about how delicious the food was and how wonderful the atmosphere felt in the private room. The servers and coordinators worked so hard during the party. Everyone was so kind, attentive, and easy to work with from the moment we started planning until the last guest left. The Machine Shed in Appleton, WI made a very special milestone in our lives, completely stress-free and memorable. Considering the cost of hosting a party-shower, The Machine Shed offers a wonderful meal and room at a very decent price point, The server was so attentive as the host of the shower I was able to visit and enjoy the event. The food was fantastic as was our waitress and the rest of the staff. In my eyes, our visit couldn't have been better. I would highly recommend The Machine Shed to everyone. They were extremely friendly and accommodating and had no problem getting all of us taken care of. I kept it pretty simple and got a burger and a beer. The burger was really good and everything came out well, especially considering how many of us there were. What really stood out though was the service. One person in our group is extremely picky about how she likes her steak cooked and ended up sending it back three times. Each time they were friendly about it and genuinely seemed more concerned with getting it right for her than being annoyed about having to remake it again. For us to come in with 25 people on such short notice and still have everyone be so friendly and accommodating was really appreciated. They handled our group incredibly well and never made us feel like an inconvenience. Definitely a 5-star experience and somewhere I would come back to.

It was a Trio Diavolo, a trio of protein with squid pasta, and a red sauce. I didn't understand that the proteins were diced bits that were stirred into the red sauce pasta. I actually thought the protein was separate from a side of pasta. It disappointed me because I generally dislike seafood in red sauce, but honestly, that wasn't their fault so I still gave them a high rating. Service was friendly and playful. Pretty efficient and seemed to like their job. It is a beautiful restaurant with a pretty amazing view, even if the water is at very sad low levels. Maybe this is natural, I've never been here before. All of the wildlife/birds really enhanced the experience. Flocks of seagulls (not the band), and surprisingly large number of pelicans were wonderful to watch. You can see the riverfront exterior and distant bridge in my standard and 360° photos. I had an absolutely wonderful experience here. The food was amazing, but what really made my visit…read morestand out was Jonathan at the bar. His hospitality and personality were exceptional. I was in Appleton for 4 days and 3 nights at a conference and staying at the Hilton across the street. I had seen Rye and talked myself out of going there on my first night. On night 2 I was fully committed to "treating myself" as I was traveling alone for work and just wanted a nice meal. My husband is a manager at a fine dining steakhouse in Scottsdale and I truly missed the "family" feeling that I get from sitting at his bar waiting for him to close up. The feeling of "I'm home". As soon as I started talking with Jonathan, he instantly recreated the feeling that I was missing from home and made me feel like a regular. After finishing my drink, I told him how much I appreciated his hospitality. Before saying my goodbyes, I briefly discussed going to another restaurant closer to the water on my last night in town so I could see the views before leaving. When the next day came and my conference ended, I walked out of my hotel and found myself walking in the opposite direction of the water and right into Rye. I ended up eating dinner, having a few drinks and even getting to know other regulars as Jonathan has such a welcoming aura everyone quickly becomes family. Having this kind of hospitality is a talent. It is not only special but almost impossible to accomplish in just one encounter. Traveling in an unfamiliar state can sometimes leave you feeling very much like a tourist, but Jonathan had an incredible ability to make me feel like a regular from the moment I sat down. He was welcoming, personable, attentive, and genuinely seemed to enjoy making sure that every individual at the fully seated bar had a great experience. Great food can bring you into a restaurant, but people like Jonathan are what make you remember it--and want to come back. Highly recommend!

Stepping into Rye in Appleton, WI, felt like entering a warm, glowing hideaway. The quiet hallway…read moreof the Copperleaf Boutique Hotel by Best Western opened into a dining room alive with texture: reclaimed wood walls, polished copper accents catching the light, and a tall, handsome bar gleaming at the entrance. The air held a faint aroma of roasted meats and spices, a subtle promise that dinner would be satisfying. We were led to our table, the soft hum of conversation and the clink of glassware creating a calm buzz around us. Michael, our server, appeared with a polite nod and offered Saratoga sparkling water. The first sip was airy and fine, the delicate bubbles dancing across the tongue--an understated luxury compared to the harsher fizz of more common sparkling waters. The bacon and cheddar risotto balls arrived still steaming, their golden crusts giving off a toasty aroma. As my fork broke through the crisp exterior, the interior oozed rich, creamy cheese, and the first bite delivered a satisfying contrast: crunchy shell, molten center, and a playful heat from the sriracha-laced cream sauce beneath. Next came the poached pear salad, a vibrant mix of greens topped with glistening fruit, ruby slices of pickled onion, and dark swirls of balsamic glaze. The first bite, however, was sharp and assertive--the onions and heavy drizzle of glaze overtook the gentle, floral sweetness of the pear, leaving the dish leaning hard into acidity. The pumpkin harvest tenderloin plate was a feast for the eyes: tender slices of pork laid over creamy risotto, punctuated with bright pumpkin purée and caramelized Brussels sprouts. The aroma was subtle, almost shy. Each bite revealed perfectly roasted, moist pork, but the flavor was muted, missing the seasoning or smokiness to match its visual promise. Dessert arrived like a small work of art: the date and fig carrot cake, topped with a scoop of cheesecake gelato and a sprinkle of honey graham crumbs. The gelato was cool and creamy, the crumbs giving a faint crunch, while the cake itself leaned more toward a fruit-spice profile than a true carrot cake. Its scent was lightly sweet, but the comforting warmth of cinnamon or nutmeg was barely there, leaving a sense of something missing. Overall Rye delivered a solid experience with wins for atmosphere and presentation and misses for flavor execution.

Walking into Author's Kitchen + Bar in Appleton, WI feels like stepping into a warm memory. The…read moremoment we opened the door, the creak of the original wooden floors greeted us alongside the cheerful hum of a bustling kitchen. Laughter rang from somewhere behind the counter, a sound that immediately set the tone for a visit rooted in hospitality and heart. Kailin welcomed us with a smile that matched the inviting aroma wafting from the kitchen. After guiding us to our table, we settled into the comfort of the cozy dining room, accompanied by the subtle percussion of footsteps on those charming old floors. Within moments, our server appeared, effortlessly balancing warmth and efficiency as they presented a glass of fresh-brewed iced tea, beads of condensation catching the afternoon light, and a steaming mug of coffee rich with the scent of roasted beans. We began our lunch with a bowl of tomato cream soup. It arrived piping hot, its vibrant color promising comfort. The first spoonful delivered on that promise: velvety and rich, with a gentle heat balanced by a quiet sweetness, each bite coating the palate in layers of flavor. Before we could fully finish savoring the soup, our empanadas made their entrance. Today's lineup included cheese and quinoa, chicken and cheese, and beef. The empanadas were a feast for the senses--golden, flaky crusts that crunched delicately beneath the fork, releasing steam fragrant with seasoned fillings. Each bite was a perfect contrast of textures: the crisp pastry giving way to molten, well-seasoned centers. The trio of sauces elevated the experience--the truffle aioli luxuriously earthy, the tomato cream sauce echoing the soup's comforting warmth, and a third option adding a playful zip. From the first creak of the floorboards to the last satisfying bite, the meal at Author's was a five-star journey. It wasn't just service; it was service from the heart, guided by intuition and a genuine love for the craft. In a world of transactional dining, Author's stands apart as an experience where every sensory detail is curated with care.

I Came Back to Appleton... Wisconsin Immediately Fed Me…read more There are many ways to kick off an HS Reunion weekend. Apparently, the correct Wisconsin way is cheese curds, a soft pretzel, beer cheese, mustard, and craft beer. One of my host~family sisters and longtime friends brought me to Stone Arch Brewpub shortly after I touched down in Appleton, and this was exactly the kind of welcome~back I needed. Let's talk about those cheese curds. Pillowy. Soft. Tender. Ridiculously good. I don't say this lightly, but these may be some of the best cheese curds I've ever eaten. Then came the pretzel~super buttery and incredibly soft~with Wisconsin beer cheese and mustard for dipping. At that point, the reunion could have ended and I would've considered the trip successful. But we weren't done. We worked our way through an assortment of craft beers spanning Hazy IPAs, West Coast IPAs, Sours and Gose~style beers. The atmosphere was cool, the service was great, and the combination of food, beer and catching up with an old friend made this feel like the perfect beginning to my return to Appleton. Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't about finding the newest or trendiest place. Sometimes it's about sitting down with someone who knows you, sharing some great food and beer, and realizing some things really do feel like coming home. Stone Arch was a damn good way to start the reunion. Would absolutely return.
