This was an interesting place to go. It's absolutely huge. It has a gift shop where you enter as well as a bakery where you can buy pies. And for as big as it was, it was pretty much empty. We called ahead since we had a big party and they accommodated us just fine, but we didn't even need to call ahead. They put two round tables together which wasn't the best setup but it worked. The bread they gave us was really good and you got several different types. Very very good breads baked fresh and hot. They also give you coleslaw and cottage cheese for everyone to share. The coleslaw was pretty good and the cottage cheese just plain. Not many of us ate either so it was kind of a waste as they put down about three bowls of each for our large group, one each would have been enough. More bread tho!! (which they brought out without being prompted). I got the prime rib with a sweet potato and broccoli. It was pretty average, nothing to write home about. Girlfriend got the ribs with fries and they were also pretty average. Kids got kids meals and had no complaints. The service was fantastic. Our server worked hard and was very attentive. She did an excellent job. The coolest part was probably all the antique tractors outside. Plenty of spots for all the kids to get their instagram selfies. I was staying in town for work and decided to stop in The Machine Shed for lunch. I travel all over for work but I'm from Iowa and this restaurant gave me the "small town" vibe which was very refreshing and homey. The staff are all very friendly and pleasant and water is served in Masson jars which I thought was really cute. I had the Southwest Chicken Salad and it was probably one of the best Southwest Chicken Salads I've had in a long time. The chicken was cooked and seasoned soo perfectly and the salad was fresh and crunchy. If I get sent here again for work I'll be stopping by. read more

My husband and I visited your location on Saturday, 07-12-25, at 9:45 am. First off, let me say that I frequent the Pewaukee Restaurant and have always been pleased. This was not the case at this restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, I was a little concerned. The place is really run down. Ceiling tiles are dirty, worn carpets are present, tables are scratched, moldy wood trim is visible, and seats and tables are dirty. Also, I noticed that tables were not bussed and food and debris were on the floors. Our server, Jose, brought us water, menus, and coffee. Knowing what we wanted, we ordered immediately. It took about 30 minutes to get the food, but another server brought a refill of coffee during the wait. We then observed Jose with our food in hand, talking to the Hostess. Jose brought the food to the table and disappeared. Now, the food quality and presentation.....Terrible. The easy-over eggs were overdone, hash browns burnt on the edges, bacon burnt, and the plate was saturated in grease. The pancakes were cold and dry. We tried to locate Jose, but he was not to be found. We sopped up some of the grease with a napkin and tried to eat some of the 'meal'. Couldn't do it. We waited for Jose for a while. I then flagged down the Hostess and asked if I could get a check. About 10 minutes later, Jose brought it to my husband. My husband went to the counter and asked the cashier to speak to the manager. He replied that she was not available, but would be back shortly. The cashier then asked him," How was everything?". He replied, "Not so good." His response was "Oh". He paid, and we left. To say the least, we were very disappointed and concerned. We left hungry. read more

Usually Machine Shed is a big hit!! Sadly, last Friday, it was a huge miss. We ordered a salad bar/soup, country fried steak, and the chicken pot pie. The soup was cold. When my mom asked for warmer soup, the server brought it back and said "sometimes when we add the toppings it cools it off," and walked off. That would be believable--if it wasn't the INSIDE of the potatoes that were cold!! Such a bad look and a way to both invalidate your guests and miss important information from them. When we asked for butter for the *few* pieces of bread, she would only bring one pad of butter at a time. They made a point of putting the "fixins" which usually grace the table for all the guests next to the only diner that had ordered a "dinner"--and the dinner is only $1 more than the pot pie. Overall, it was like the restaurant was rationing. It's a bad, low brow look. The server never brought the bill. When we went to the front to pay (which is what we do at the Rockford location, so we thought that was expected), the server met us there and scolded us for not paying at the table. Complete and utter lack of hospitality, which should be the upmost importance for a Midwest-based farm cooking restaurant. So disappointing. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in America. Not because the food is so fantastic (although it's really good), not because it's new and trendy, not because of who eats there, but because it is one of the last great American farm to table, heartland restaurants. The food is excellent, all midwestern staples that many of us grew up on, the atmosphere has that same farm inspired mid America, country feel and every time I've been here, the staff is great. I know this place is a chain but we experienced great service and good food at this Appleton restaurant near the Fox Valley Mall. It was going on 11 and we had not eaten anything yet. I was hungry for a breakfast type of meal. I did not notice if they serve breakfast all day but as we were seated we were handed a breakfast menu. We were here around 11:30 am. My order included a marinated pork steak with scrambled eggs and choice of two sides. I chose the hash-brown casserole and biscuit and gravy. My pork steak was flavorful but not the tenderest. The biscuit and sausage gravy was flavorful and ok-not the flakiest biscuit I've ever had. Hash brown casserole was average My husband chose chicken fried steak with gravy, hash-brown casserole and he enjoyed his meal. He said the chicken fried steak was crunchy. We both left with enough food for another meal for each of us. I would say The Machine She'd is comparable to a Cracker Barrel. I would stop back to this restaurant again. read more

1st of all, didn't know they were open. Parking lot was empty. Drove around and saw cars on the back side. Nice place, kinda set up like Cracker Barrel. First off, you walk in and the place is absolutely adorable, and huge. Farm house gift shop for home things including cookbooks, kitchen items, signs, and more. They have a desert counter as well. There is a homey feel in the rest of the restaurant. Jesse was attentive and patient as a server and would love to have her again. The food portions are just as big as the place. I had the Cobb salad and it was enough for 2 meals! Not pictured was French onion soup. Best I've had in awhile. High recommend this location with farm to table food, home style cooking, and a cozy environment. Machine Shed seems to be a less-cluttered Cracker Barrel, which isn't a bad thing. You can expect comfort food favorites, giant portions and pretty reasonable prices. They weren't crowded when we stopped and it looked like MS was doing a good job keeping people separated, cleaning and requiring masks in common areas. Appreciated! They're absolutely set up for larger (6-10) groups so bring the whole family. Unlike CB, there isn't all day breakfast, and I wouldn't say there are a ton of "healthy" options. If you're choosing Machine Shed you already know that though. The Mister opted for a fried chicken dinner (available in 2 or 4 pieces) which came with a potato choice, a mound of vegetables and a side plate that included cottage cheese, slaw, rolls and a small piece of cake. My Cobb salad ($11?) was full of fresh ingredients and served on a plate the size of a bar tray - LOL! I ate until I was full and I didn't make a dent. Our server was fun and friendly and most people will be going home with substantial doggy bags. There is a small store area with mostly kitchen accessories but you won't find the kitschstravaganza of Cracker Barrel. That alone makes me want to pick this place instead! read more

We were on a group trip flying into the EAA AirVenture Airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in a WWII vintage C-47D plane. The package included our hotel and one dinner and the Machine Shed Restaurant had been selected by our trip organizer. It was only about 15 minutes from our hotel and could accommodate our group of fifteen with a reservation. We arrived at 7pm on time for our reservation and were greeted and immediately seated. The table was all set with water in pitchers distributed along the table. Small canning jars were set for use as water glasses. Menus were distributed and drink orders taken and it was only five minutes since we walked in. My wife ordered Iced Tea and, after she tasted it, said it was quite good which I quickly confirmed. She ordered the Sautéed Savory Shrimp with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and I chose the 9oz Haybaler Top Sirloin Steak with a Baked Potato. Then the bread baskets came with Dinner Rolls and other breads served with butter. This was followed by several dishes to pass such as Green Beans, Coleslaw, and Cottage Cheese that were all quite good. Finally the entrees arrived and the Shrimp was tasty with a bit more cheesy flavor than she normally liked but was still very good. My Sirloin Steak was tender, seasoned perfectly, and cooked exactly medium as I had requested. The 9oz size was just the right amount; it's great when restaurants offer a choice of several sizes of Steaks and Chops on the menu for customers to choose from. Service throughout was great, especially given the size of our group, and the drinks were regularly refilled. After our experience here tonight, we would definitely return anytime we are in this area! read more

Really not very good. The meal started out with cola that tasted like bleach. My wife tried it and also tasted bleach. The waitress said she had ben drinking it and didn't notice any off flavor. That apparently ended the matter. My wife ordered pot roast, which turned out to be a thin, soupy concoction with very few vegetables. I had country fried chicken, which I had enjoyed many times in the past. This time the chicken was prepared with an abundance of salt. I tried a few bites to be certain it was that salty. It was, and I left the rest on the plate, along with a mediocre baked potato. This used to be a place I'd anticipated visiting on trips to Appleton. Next time I'll try somewhere else. read more

This place reminds me a little of Cracker Barrel. There's a store in the lobby area I guess you call it. They sell trinkets and such, candy, souvenirs, etc. We showed up with a pretty large group and they were able to accommodate us pretty quickly. The menu was also similar to CB. Basic american menu. Very cute and food was delicious we passed the buffet for a breakfast wrap (huge serving) and corned beef hash and eggs (delicious).
