Steak sandwich got a thumbs up.

I've been here a couple times before with my other half while visiting his family in Wisconsin. Honestly, this time Cinder's was not as good as I remember but I gave them an extra star because the staff were all still wearing masks, gloves and sanitizer was available everywhere. Also because the other half's steak sandwich was reported to be pretty darn good. I was not so happy with my fish fry plate which should be stellar in Wisconsin. The perch was tasty but ridiculously minuscule. The shrimp tasted just OK but the haddock was good. The drawn butter and sauces were spot on. We will be back and I'll try Friday Fish Fry on an actual Friday.

Back in the early 90's my best friend in High School worked as a cook at Cinders. Unfortunately during that time period he passed in a fishing/boating incident. I moved from the area and 25+ years have passed since I've visited Cinder's. I returned to the area for a work conference and visited Cinder's once again. I so vividly remember spending an occasional evening at Cinder's with my friend after closing having a pitcher or two and just enjoying the particular time in our lives. He never wanted us to have too many because he didn't want to get in trouble with the boss. Miss my friend and those simpler times. On this visit the steak sandwich was as good as I remember from back in the day. They also now have bottomless fries with their sandwiches. (Bonus, the statute of limitations has most definitely passed on the few after hour pitchers I enjoyed with my friend while 18-19 yoa.

We ended up stopping here after a night of errands and exhaustion that led to not wanting to cook. We spotted it on the side of the road while driving. Atmosphere: You seat yourself when you walk in. It kind of feels like an old diner vibe? A lot of booths and they can accommodate your group size, large or small. They have a grill station where you can watch the food be made. Service: REALLY great server. Super personable and heck, I just wanted her to sit down and hang out. I can't remember her name, but young with thick framed black glasses and short hair to her shoulders. Kept our water glasses filled and brought drinks over promptly. Food: COME HUNGRY. I seriously was ravenous when we arrived, and I STILL could not clear my plate. I ordered the chicken tenders, they hand bread them to order. They were alright, nothing that floored me. French fries were well cooked, could have used more salt. I loved the coleslaw that came on the side, great texture. The cheese curds are fresh, and you get a good portion size. My fiance got a burger and it was a really good size (a 1/3 lb.), he did not leave hungry either. The waitress hooked us up with extra pickles because I am obsessed with eating pickles. Good experience that we weren't really expecting since neither of us had been to a Cinder's before. 1 star for the food, and 2 stars for our amazing server

I got the cowboy burger and it was real good... Great texture and great flavor... I'd give them 5 stars but the silverware was dirty.

Perfectly filling It was a little weird that they put the lettuce/tomatoes on the side instead of directly in the burger haha, but the pattie was deliciously buttery! Heard that the steak burger is particularly good, so I'll have to try that at some point. Fries were great as well

Too expensive. $16 for a hamburger (more for a cheeseburger) with only fries. Not including a tip. Won't be back. Has gotten too expensive.

We went to one of their limited dinner services. I had called the day before and reserved a table. When we were quickly seated at a table by the entrance, I admit being suspect of how our visit would go. The hostess asked if the table was alright and pointed out a heater by the table. Not only did it keep us warm, it made our table feel cozy. Despite it being very busy, I'd describe the restaurant as being a great place for a special date. Our waiter for the evening brought great energy. His timing was great and his knowledge of the food served was helpful. Without hesitation he suggested the Napolitana (which was phenomenal). He also made the restaurant less pretentious than I had assumed it would be and it definitely wasn't pretentious). We ordered the empanadas and beet salad as appetizers. Great picks and I'd return just to get the empanadas! As previously stated, I had the Napolitana. My dining partner has the quinoa bowl but added chicken to it. No complaints for either. We finished with two desserts suggested by our waiter. Although truly full from our meal, we polished off the tasty treats. I'm going back, just disappointed I've haven't visited it before now.

They're located in an old building along the main street in downtown. For lunch, they seemed to have a short list of items...and not really catering to a red meat eater like me. I picked the chicken pesto sandwich since I normally eat chicken sandwiches for lunch and opted for the house potatoes. Our waitress was very loopy and loud add seemed overly happy about her job. My colleague thinks she was yelling at us whem she spoke, but I believe that is just how some people talk. My chicken sandwich was good...but the chicken breast seemed like a machine formed patty and it was small. I was expecting something a little fresher, like a whole grilled chicken breast for the price. Instead, this seemed like a pre-made patty from a vendor they just heated up in an oven. The house potatoes were simple and pretty good though. They add cheese and herbs and spices to these to amp them up. I can't really speak for the breakfast or cocktail program, but their music was pretty good.

They have an upstairs tap room, an arcade, and a bar and restaurant downstairs. The service was all-around incredible. The employees were warm, friendly, and professional, and they seemed to know exactly how often to check in without interrupting our meal. They spaced out our drinks, appetizers, and entrees just the right amount. Our server Andrew was particularly great. We had a soda flight of their craft sodas for a super super reasonable price, and every single soda was spectacular. We're spoiled in the craft soda department by virtue of living in Wisconsin (Sprecher, Potosi, etc), but this was definitely the best craft soda we've had. Even the wacky flavors like blue raspberry were rich and flavorful--they didn't taste overwhelmingly artificial. I cannot recommend their soda enough, although I imagine their craft beer is pretty good too! We also had a delicious mocktail, which always goes a long ways in impressing us. All of our food was reasonably priced and so, so, fresh and delicious. The Bavarian pretzel with the beer cheese was heavenly!! We loved our entrees as well. Even something simple like the fries were perfectly done--fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside I don't think we could have asked for a better experience. Everything we had their was top notch, and despite the number of things we ordered, our bill was not very high at all (about $50 for a mocktail, a craft soda flight and a soda pint, an appetizer and two entrees.

We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.
