We went out to celebrate my husbands 83rd birthday we got a nice surprise the staff sang Cinder's Happy Birthday song and we got a small cake to commemorate his big day. Our waitress was wonderful. She was attentive and added sparkle to our day. Food was very good. We had a table of 4 and everyone got something different. No complaints only praise fir a good lunch. read more

Atomosphere: Multilevel just like their other location on Wisconsin, but it is much larger. The parking lot is a bit of a cluster to navigate when it is busy. There are tall wooden booths throughout providing some intimacy to your evening. There is a large bar area up front by the kitchen so you can watch the magic of food happen. The bathrooms were very clean and I was pleasantly surprised at the size of them. Service: We called ahead to make a reservation/get on the wait list and were seated immediately when we arrived. The host was very helpful even though she was managing about 30 people waiting for seats. Our server was slammed, but kept our drinks coming, our water glasses full, and got us out of their quickly after the meal. Food: The food was just as good as their other location and it came out fast and hot. We really enjoyed the menu set up here vs. the location on WI, it was very easy to navigate in regards to drinks and food. If we are on this side of town, we know this is a great place to eat that keeps their consistency and quality at great standards. read more

This place is exactly what it looks like from the outside. Nothing fancy, tables and booths and a countertop. Exactly the type of place you can find fresh burgers on great rolls. I would highly suggest the steak sandwich and waffle fries. The steak is so big you can actually have a bite or two before you get to the bun! Great charcoal flavor. Specials each day of the week, including fish and ribs along with a soup or two. I believe they have salads for the non-meat eater but I never got to that part of the menu! read more

Our food was really good. The service was pretty bad. For food, we ordered cheese curds and a side of veggies. The waitress made a big deal about ordering a side, a la carte, as an app. I don't see why it would make a difference. She eventually agreed to do it. For meals, my boyfriend got a cowboy burger with fries. The burger was great. Lots of toppings and sauce. The fries were hot and had wonderful flavor. I ordered the yellow tuna salad with no cheese and no dressing. Making sure she got this written down, because I have been burned before. Well, you guessed it. Came out with both. After 15 minutes, no joke, it came back out. It was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend their salads. I might come back, hoping for a different waitress. read more

November 2019: update to what I wrote back in June: Just spent another week in the area doing some system tuning; so I had to come back To Cinders for one more dinner. Had the Northwest Burger & onion rings, chicken & dumplings soup. They did not disappoint! Another fine meal. My original notes below.... So I'm wrapping up a 2nd week of work in the Appleton area and Cinders has become my go-to dinner spot. Good food; grilled items are cooked over an honest charcoal fire. I've had several different burgers, fish a couple of times, their house special "Steak Sandwich" and one evening did a departure from the menu & did a large ribeye & shrimp combo. All of the food has been good to excellent. I like the fact that they have good alternatives to the standard french fries as a side for a sandwich based order. Both their coleslaw & potato salad are very good and a worthy alternatives. Good onion rings too. In a sea of cookie cutter box chain restaurants; Cinders offers a family run alternative with honest good food, friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere. I don't know if I'll need to come back to this jobsite but I know where dinner is if I do. read more

My favorite place to eat out in appleton! Friday fish is the best around, but I usually just try my fiance's fish and order a steak sandwich. Everything is always fresh and cooked how you ask...I usually get my steak sandwich cooked medium. This place has good food but it's great for the value if you have kids. I like that they source ingredients from local businesses, you can never go wrong with Manderfield's Bakery products for example. I'd say it's better fare overall than nearby chain style restaurants. The difference maker for me was this: gookids meals on Monday-Thursday are just a couple bucks. Then they include a free sundae if they clean their plates. With two little boys, that means we can eat at a sit down restaurant and I can get a good meal and keep it under $20 including tip. That is very hard to beat. Went to Cinders yesterday. Before we left home, we printed the coupon they have on their website - $2 off order of $25 or more. There was no expiration date on it. I showed the coupon to the waitress before we ordered. When we were paying, she came back and said "I'm sorry. That has been changed to $30 and you're just under that amount." I told her I printed it from their website. I should have made a bigger deal out of it, because even though it's only $2, that is what they are advertising. The coupon is still out there. With all of the reviews saying how great the food is not sure if it was just a bad night maybe a trainee cooked our meal or we just pissed someone off, but this was the worst meal we had in a while. My daughters cheeseburger had a stale bun and it goes downhill from there. I got a bowl of chili which was not even to the level of Wendy's. The wife ordered cheese and broccoli soup and salad. When we got our entrées we were told no cheese and broccoli, had we known that from the start she would have ordered a burger but since the entrées were out she just ordered the chicken dumpling. BIG mistake. Barley any chicken, no dumplings, and a full cup of salt. This was uneatable. My steak sandwich was cooked well but apparently they felt the need to store it in the freezer before bringing it out. Sent this back and they made a new one. Mistake #2, second one came out raw,picture provided doesn't highlight the glowing red off the steak. Funny thing is we had the kitchen cut it in half so my wife had something to eat, how they sent this out bleeding is unacceptable. We left hungry and wife had Cheerios that tasted better than anything we ate at Cinders. Service was good although for as much that was wrong they should have compensate far more than $5. I'm from the Appleton area and make it back to visit my parents every few months. My parents love Cinders and go often, so they took me and my fiancé with to check it out. My dad and fiancé both got wraps while my mom and I had steak sandwiches. Everything looked great and tasted even better. I was pleasantly surprised as I'm often a little snobby when it comes to eating out in WI as opposed to Minneapolis. There was an awkward moment during our meal that two guys around us started arguing/yelling at each other, but someone (manager?) came over and apologized quickly after, which was a nice gesture even though we weren't too concerned about it. Before the pestilence hit, my wife and I were regulars here. They do make an excellent steak sandwich. We had a taste for steak sandwiches tonight so we ordered take out. We got two steak sandwiches, one of which had an order of crisscut fries. 28 dollars and change! It's good, but hardly that good! May I suggest Mihm's Charcoal Grill in Menasha? It's a very similar sandwich for about half the price. The seating certainly isn't as nice, but if you're getting carry out, who cares? Nice cozy atmosphere in the dining area and you can see the kitchen and all the goings on back there so there was free entertainment! I tried the bacon cheeseburger soup on this friged night and it hit the spot. Large chunks of tomatos, ground beef, etc. I also tried the veggie delight basket which included: fried zucchini, cauliflower, mushrooms, onion rings and cheese curds. They were all good but the mushrooms were my least favorite. The consistancy of them were a little mushy after frying. Gone downhill! We have dined here on various occasions and usually it's pretty decent food for the price. However, this last time our food was almost inedible. We ordered mozzarella sticks which all but 2 were under done. Not to mention the fact that we were not given marinara sauce for about 10 minutes because they ran out. And I understand these things happen but they could have waited to serve our appetizer until all the parts were ready. Then our meals come out 1 chicken sandwich 1 chicken wrap. There was something off with the chicken it was rubbery and just flat out tasted bad, and you guessed it the fries were also terribly underdone and soggy. Each of us had only 2 bites out of our sandwiches and could not have anymore. Honestly I am upset I paid over $30 for worse quality than the dollar menu at McDonald's. When you order a 6oz tenderloin steak sandwich and charge $13 - you expect to get an actual steak, not a skinny hamburger patty. I went for a Friday fish fry with my family. They are all from here, and they know Cinders well. They recommended the Whitefish all you can eat. It was more than what any one of the five of us could eat. Tender, hot, went down well. Service was on pace with a busy restaurant, The price was in line with other fish fries I have been to. This is normally one of our favorite places. However, today when we ordered steak sandwiches, the bun was very dry. The bun crumbled as soon as you took a bite. We ordered our sandwiches medium-rare and we got them medium-well. There was no pink in the middle what-so-ever and the sandwich tasted very dry. Just finished this weeks "Burger of the week" the "Dirty Burger". This was the burger I was craving, massive patty done to order, thick slice of grilled ham, bacon, sauté mushrooms, lettuce, added raw onions, on a pretzel bun with a side of fries. FANTASTIC!
