Onion strings with chipotle dipping sauce

This place is a well oiled machine. Wow--everyone hustles here. We stopped in on a Friday and had fish: one haddock fry and the other broiled. Everything was on point. The broiled fish was cooked perfectly to temp and well seasoned. The fried fish--loved the batter and that it's not greasy. It really was a great fry and please don't ever remove the crinkle fries from the menu. They are these best.

Fantastic dinner at Marks East side. Some places are just classic, and this is one of them. The ambiance is classic supper club and it's an experience. Food was fantastic. We had the jaegerschnitzle and the eisbein (pork hock) with Bavarian Scotch eggs. It was a great meal. Our server was so friendly, while working like two people with the full house. Marks is a bucket list item you need to try.

We went for corn beef & cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. It was excellent! And they had draught Guinness to boot! Service was quick. We sat in a section of high top tables in the bar. The bar is quite cosy and comfortable. It was a good time.

Another great visit to Mark's East Side. We had 6:30 reservations, but they were able to seat us about 6:10. We had a group of 6 tonight. The bar was very crowded when we arrived, but we did not have to wait long for a beverage. The Mahi-mahi was quite delicious. It was served in a bed of wild rice with mango salsa and fresh asparagus. This paired so very nicely. Even with the large group, our food came out in a timely manner. Our server, Carly was very attentive. She did a great job making sure beverages from the bar were kept fresh. Dessert for myself was a grasshopper. It was a bit larger than I expected. Unfortunately, after such an amazing dinner, I could not finish mine. My husband brought home a wonderful German chocolate cheesecake. I would have never been able to eat it all....but in my refrigerator, I feel I may fit in a bite or two. The dessert menu is quite extensive, so leave room for the tasty treats.

We love this place. Great bartenders mixing great drinks. Great atmosphere. Steaks are delicious. My favorite is the German entrees. Especially the Jagerschnitzel with Spatzel and the mushroom gravey.

We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.

We had fun listening, even though we were sitting at the bar. Dinning experience was only so-so however. Thing I really liked was the French Roquefort dressing (for salad). My Prime Rib was better than average, but my wife's steak was so underdone (for her, medium well tastes) the center was not even medium rare! Her Haddock was tasty however. We both also ordered hash browns as a side, my wife's browns came out first and they were great. I was told that that mine would be out in a minute. What came out was definitely freezer burnt, gray and oily. My browns did not even look like my wife's, and tasted terrible. Because we had plenty to eat, I just shared my wife's and left mine. I did show the waitress. . She told me I should have told her earlier, she would have had them remake them. That would have been great if she would have been at the table more than the one time she said "how are the first few bites". Never got a refill on my water, even though I asked. (It's funny... she did ask if she could refill my alcoholic beverage multiple times when that was empty!) I'll say we did really enjoy the barroom entertainment, dining experience... maybe not so much. Plus.. kind of thought that when I didn't eat my hash-browns that my wife didn't eat most of her steak that maybe they would have offered a dessert or something....

They have an upstairs tap room, an arcade, and a bar and restaurant downstairs. The service was all-around incredible. The employees were warm, friendly, and professional, and they seemed to know exactly how often to check in without interrupting our meal. They spaced out our drinks, appetizers, and entrees just the right amount. Our server Andrew was particularly great. We had a soda flight of their craft sodas for a super super reasonable price, and every single soda was spectacular. We're spoiled in the craft soda department by virtue of living in Wisconsin (Sprecher, Potosi, etc), but this was definitely the best craft soda we've had. Even the wacky flavors like blue raspberry were rich and flavorful--they didn't taste overwhelmingly artificial. I cannot recommend their soda enough, although I imagine their craft beer is pretty good too! We also had a delicious mocktail, which always goes a long ways in impressing us. All of our food was reasonably priced and so, so, fresh and delicious. The Bavarian pretzel with the beer cheese was heavenly!! We loved our entrees as well. Even something simple like the fries were perfectly done--fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside I don't think we could have asked for a better experience. Everything we had their was top notch, and despite the number of things we ordered, our bill was not very high at all (about $50 for a mocktail, a craft soda flight and a soda pint, an appetizer and two entrees.
