I have been to Cheba Hut a million times and it's always top of mind if I want a sandwich. The chipotle mayo is awesome!! I have some of my favorites, the Five O, Jamaican Red and Midwest's Best are all fine sandwiches and the bread here makes the sandwich. The folks who work here are awesome, they recognize you and remember your name and you can tell they are always trying to bust ass to get the food out quick. Soooooo happy today! Since I've gone vegetarian I've been sad that a lot of my favorite places don't offer good vegetarian options. But Cheba Hut, you won my heart over again! Let's start off by saying this review has nothing to do with the food. The food here is great. This review is about the staff and how they operate. If they give you a time frame for an order you want to add an additional 20 minutes to whatever time they give you. I've gone in there and sat for 20 minutes past my order time. Additionally the staff pays no attention to the orders that are ready. I almost had them remake my sandwich that had been sitting for 15 plus minutes but I didn't feel like waiting for an additional 30 minutes for a new one. I really enjoy the food here but who ever is the owner/manger needs to reevaluate the people they employ and know how they are running the business. read more

Best subs in town. The first time I went in I thought it was a little pricey, but have had no problem forking over the cash countless times upon my returns. The Hazy Choke is my recommendation, slap a little hummus and bacon on it, with the chipotle mayo. That's a sandwich I'd pay $2 more for. The staff is always friendly, and helpful, and hospitable, unlike other places around that try to "cater to the counter culture" whatever that means. In these kinds of places you expect to find exhausted, uninterested employees who make you feel like a massive burden on them for stepping into the establishment. But not at Cheba, it's like visiting friends who get excited about making some bomb food for you. The egg salad is also a champ. I will agree that the bread can be a little tough sometimes. With a crunchier exterior than most people are used to. This can make eating the sandwich a little more of a chore than you expect. But as someone who has handled bread a good bit in a restaurant setting, I can say that this is most likely due to the higher quality of bread. It absolutely never gets that awful styrofoam texture that has made me throw out more than one sandwich from Subway. All in all. This is my favorite sandwich shop in the area. If you haven't been, you owe it to yourself to check it out. read more

Restaurant was dirty, cooks were wiping their foreheads with their wrist. Tables are stacked in the hallway next to racks of bread. State of Oregon is allowing indoor dining but this location is "worried" for their staff's security and remains closed. Not sure this restaurant is focused on product and service. read more

I'm visiting Eugene for a work trip and I heard good things about this place and OH MAN it is AMAZING!! Hands down best turkey sandwich I've EVER had. I got the Kali Mist with extra fresh jalapeños and they were sooo fresh and spicy. I had it with chips and BLUE KOOL-AID! I was so excited when I saw it. The staff is amazing, and so helpful. From the weed-based sandwich names to the pot leafs sprinkled along the walls, it oozes a huge sense of relaxation when you enter. I always get the 5-0 on their garlic bread with red onion and chipotle mayo. All pork and no veggie, it is a guilty pleasure I never tire of; and I've eaten it for the past three years. Nothing disappoints, including their desserts that are simply described as different takes on Rice Krispies. The Cheba Hut... why did I only ever go there when I was stoned? The atmosphere is so corny. Or, weed-y. Bob Marley and other pothead icons are throned in tapestries and, I mean, it's pretty obvious, but the sandwiches are all named after... marijuana strains. The sandwich sizes refer to marijuana smoking methods. It's so dorky. I get that it's a chain, I really do. This location is not to blame. And it's cute that their theme is so easily manifested. The employees never messed up my order - well, maybe a couple times they didn't hear me quite properly, but they were kind about it. The product was my issue. I made it a point to order in normal-speak... a 6'' turkey or something, instead of using their terminology. I wanted to be better than the Cheba Hut. But the sandwiches are honestly not that great. They do take a minute to arrive, and on principle aren't terrible. They're just boring. Like Subway-level boring. Half-assed lettuce, maybe some condiments, and ho-hum meat and cheese. The cheesy bread is awesome, but keep in mind that it's literally bread with cheese melted on it and some marinara sauce on the side. "Toasted" subs. I get it. read more

I was on a camping trip a couple of weeks ago and passing through Eugene Oregon. We ordered online for pick up - there were seven of us. Got the 5-0 all the pig, this was the best Italian sub I have had. they toast the sub roll, I had wheat, so good and fresh. The pickles inside were crunchy and fresh.
