I have friends visiting from out of town and since they've been to San Antonio several times, I thought we'd have dinner at Chart House. Well, the best part of the evening was the elevator ride. Food was not great and over-priced for the quality. When we were leaving, a large group of folks was leaving, too. I started talking to an older gentleman from Austin and he asked me if I'd come back. I said no. He replied,"Same here. Food wasn't great at all." Perhaps a drink at the bar and maybe dessert....but don't go for the food. On top of the overpriced not-so-great food, the restaurant wasn't even moving due to renovations so one of the main attractions wasn't even available...so felt really let down/cheated. While visit San Antonio this was for sure a mus, we were doing some other things and almost missed our reservation. I called them to see if we could hold a little longer and was told they have a 15 min Grace period, after that we would for sure lose our table. We could eat at the bar but it is a part of the restaurant that does not spin. This is basically the only reason we were coming here, to experience the restaurant rotating feature. Spoiled alert, I was a bit angry cause we made it! Got our table and I noticed that there were empty tables that did not get guests for the entire time we were there. So I was angry that they rushed us with our other engagement knowing they would not have issues accommodating for one table. Tho I know why they prob do that cause accommodating for one may imply for many and this is a very tourist heavy town. But they had a few empty tables the whole time so that was a bit disappointing. We came in and have a Wait staff changed 3 times, one waitress said she was sick and leaving so we got another waiter and then he also left us to a third one. We not sure why cause the first one was there the entire time we were there. Not a big deal but very weird. We ordered appetizers and drinks and those took forever cause of the change of wait staff we had to wait a long time for the drinks. I was not impressed to be honest. Fleur de liz- it came with an very simple presentation, looked like pineapple juice and did not taste like it had any alcohol in it. I didn't even drink more than half of it. One of our friends liked his drink and asked for another one but we never got that second one. He was not charged for it so that's a positive. We got for appetizers: Half dozens oysters- nothing to write home about, it was ok, already loosen from shell and ok. HUMMUS AND PITA- also another pretty average appetizer. The little pita looked like those ones u get from the market, the mini pita breads. For the meal: Shellfish linguini: that was my meal and I must say it was very dry. I appreciated that it came with a half lobster tail, the tiniest lobster tail. But it was nice to see. However the pasta was so dry. The sauce was all in the bottom so I feel like they put the cooked basta on top of the sauce and the guest is supposed to mix it in. I was not here for that. So very dry. For dessert: Creme brûlée tasting: the mini trio was well presented, the original and the mint flavored ones was pretty good but the strawberry one has a very displeasing after taste that came later after the strawberry note was gone. I could not have more than two spoons of it and honestly tasted pretty bad. The waitress noticed and asked if I wanted a replacement but I refused as I was already very done eating and waiting on our orders. If I accepted that replacement I was not sure how long would that take so it was fine to leave it alone. All the meals took a very long time to arrive, we were no longer hungry when the main dishes arrived and we were not able to enjoy the meal. The timing of all dishes was very bad. Took too long. Lastly, the ambiance and the experience is what people come here for, I can definitely tell that time is catching up to the room. The spinning floor has very noticeable nuances that is stalls in certain parts of the rotation, there are areas of the restaurant that the temperature regulation is way out of wack. We would have areas that were comfortable and then areas that were so cold we had to put our coats on. It was pretty distracting from the entire experience. For a place that charges fine dining prices this was definitely not a fine dining experience. read more

I really don't understand the average and subpar comments here on Yelp. Is it people expecting filet mignon and pay for hamburger? I don't know. All I know is we had a terrific time with truly delicious food and expertly crafted cocktails! This was a treat, and we enjoyed every second of it! We opened with appetizers of a shrimp cocktail and their hummus. Our beverages of a Manhattan and chocolate & bourbon cocktail were absolutely amazing! The shrimp cocktail was visually stimulating with the fog coming off from the dry ice. The hummus was surprisingly delicious! My wife raved about her filet and I thought my grouper was scrumptious! The chefs are always creative and the meals are presented well. We had a steak filet mignon with garlic mashed and a sea bass fish option. When we went, the revolving part was not working and they don't tell you that ahead of time when you make a reservation( main reason we even went to eat there). The shameless tourist trap experience starts with $20 parking fee to park on the middle of a giant mostly empty industrial parking lot. Ok. The lower waiting area is literally Disney slop complete with a giant "gift shop" full of random junk and a sticky floor. The hostess seemed miserable to be there. The rotation function of the tower was broken! Thanks for telling us that when we made reservations...that's kindve the main point of this place. The main lobby experience finishes with a mandatory Photo Booth where they later come to your table trying to sell you a cringey photoshopped family picture. Like who actually buys these? The elevator attendant cut our party of 5 in half so we didn't even get to ride up together. The restaurant. I had low expectations but yiiiikes. When you get to the top, instead of going to your table you are in yet another waiting area where people are packed in. And then they're yelling out people's names like a bad chain restaurant. Really awkward set up. Food wise everything was mediocre at best. We had steaks and prime rib. You're being served select grade beef here at Prime prices. Worse almost every dish came out slightly colder than it should be. Service was fine but not notable. Bottom line: this is not an elegant place for a date or business dinner. She has 12 tables-I asked her. We didn't get seated until 12:40. Ordered when she's came back to get outer drink order a few minutes later. Didn't get our food until 1:55pm. Didn't get our dessert until 2:45. I walked around several times and her section was the only packed one. We walked out of the resturant at 3:10pm. Our server was wonderful and totally overworked. This place was super fun experience! All the food we ordered was really good. My favorite dish was the Shrimp and Crab dip. I would get that every single time. FYI happy hour is only at the bar. Website was a little confusing about that but no biggie. The server Dave was very helpful and kind! We met both the AM Emily and the GM, they were very kind and wanted to make sure we had a memorable experience. We came in for my sisters birthday and they gave her a dessert with a candle and the server even gave her a card from him That was one of the sweetest things i've seen a restaurant do for birthdays. We've been here before but it's been a few years. Before you go, know that parking is $25 and they do not validate parking - definitely a downside. When we arrived they already had our reservation pulled and menus ready for us, which was a positive. We were seated immediately on the outer ring so we had a great view as we turned, with one complete revolution every 55 minutes. The view is THE draw to this restaurant. Being able to have dinner while turning slowly and seeing the scenery turn from daylight to sunset to darkness with city lights is really awesome. For the food. We had the fried calamari and the coconut breaded shrimp for appetizers. Both were prepared very well. The shrimp had a great flavor and all three sauces were very good and paired well with the shrimp. The calamari was also prepared well and the light glaze was spot on! The calamari was a very generous portion. The Spinach salad (with eggs, Mushrooms, bacon and radish and warm bacon dressing) was very tasty and also a very generous portion. For our entrees we had spicy ahi tuna and prime rib, both with garlic mashed potatoes. The prime rib was also a very generous portion. It was prepared very well and the creamed radish and au jus sauce were also prepared perfectly. The garlic mashed potatoes were very tasty. The Spicy Ahi Tuna - a big disappointment. The chunks were the size of chunks of pot roast. The tuna was dry and despite ordering medium rare, it was overdone. The wasabi paste was actually a wasabi sauce and had almost no 'heat' at all. Not what I'm used to with all of the other restaurants I've been to that serve Ahi Tuna. I would not order it again. For dessert we ordered the volcano chocolate cake with Heath pieces and ice cream. Really, aside from plain ice cream - that is the only desert choice. Make sure you order it early if you want it because it takes 30 minutes to prepare (we ordered it when we ordered our meal) as indicated in the menu. The service was mediocre. My glass was empty for extended periods of time and we had empty plates for long periods of time. Despite ordering the dessert when we ordered our dinner, it took about 30 minutes after we finished dinner to get our dessert. The upside was the great view while we waited. When my Ahi Tuna arrived, I was not brought a steak knife - I only had my butter knife. My first soda glass had a foreign substance all over the outside - with dish washer power or food of some sort - not happy about that. I asked for a new glass and received one - but it also had a foreign substance on the outside of the glass, just not as much. Overall - most of the food was really good (except the tuna); The view was awesome; the service was mediocre at best for a restaurant as pricey as this one; and the parking was ridiculous. Made reservations for Christmas day cause we didn't want to cook and wow a lot of folks had the same idea! We were shock on how busy it was, and happy we made reservations! We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and was asked to wait no problem. We then got up to the restaurant, and there were probably 20 people waiting in the lobby... we checked in and waited to be called. It was about 15 minutes before we were seated, but we got a great seat! It was probably another 10 minutes before we were helped, but they were slammed, so we just enjoyed the view for the time being. Our waiter did finally make it to us, and we tried to order everything we could, caise we were starving! Our drinks took another 10 minutes or so, and apps arrived shortly after that. The drinks were nice and strong, and the apps were great! The crab cake was full of crab and cooked perfectly, also ordered the shrimp, avocado, mango stack. It was nice and refreshing but not much flavor. There was a set menu for the holidays so we ordered the clam chowder which was really good, the lobster bisque which was good but a little thick, the Surf and Turf which was cooked perfectly and the truffle crusted sea bass which was so awesome and tasty! The asparagus i got was more or less raw, just heated, but I ate it anyway. The deserts were great we got the mud pie and the mini lava cake. I recommend arriving with a little extra time since it took a few minutes for the elevator to take us up. We were seated by the window, such an amazing view! Very cool that the floor slowly spins so you can soak up all the views. They were sold out of the two appetizers we wanted. We ended up getting hummus which was good but nothing crazy to get again. For dinner I got the filet mignon with the chimichurri butter with a side of shrimp scampi. This was super delicious. I would 100% order that again. For drinks I got a classic margarita. The few times we've been to Chart House is for dinner dates but this time we decided to bring my mom to experience the Tower of The Americas and take her for lunch with a view. Such a disappointment. I believe our server's name was Jeremy. He was so kind and helpful and apologetic. When we first arrived there was quite the crowd waiting to be seated so they told us we could wait upstairs at the bar if we'd like. We went up at ordered drinks and right when we did that, our table was ready so it was kind of clunky. The tables are fairly tight together in certain areas which means if you are staring out the window to see the view, you may also awkwardly be staring at another party that's between you and the view. My sister's starter plate that was set at the table was dirty but that was quickly replaced. The food was good. However, our soups came out cold and the lobster bisque was wayyyyy too spicy. I didn't know it was southwestern lobster bisque?! LOL (it's not) The wait time for our main dishes was quite long. It was a nice bucket list restaurant visit but you definitely go for the view more than anything. Walking in, I appreciated the beauty and fanciness of having lunch at the top of the tower. The food prices are definitely based on the location and not the food. I started with the shrimp and crab fondue as an appetizer. It was really good until I found that mini shrimps were used instead of actual shrimp. It felt like I was eating a cup of noodles. Then my lobster bisque was so sweet and had an aftertaste similar to eating bread which was gross. My friend is a dumpster so he ate it but first telling me that it didn't taste good. My meal was pretty well made, not handmade noodles, but it was expected. My other friend's lobster was also tasty looking even though I didn't try it. Then when the desert came, I expected a lava cake and it was definitely a cake that was made yesterday with hard crusty edges and no "lava" in the middle. It was pretty though. Although we had reservations, we waited in the ground floor lobby, then waited for several elevator trips & then waited again in the restaurant lobby. There are a lot of missed opportunities to provide efficient guest flows and timely service, with the use of reservations and knowledge of how long the elevator trips take. Guests should be seated as they exit the elevator. The wait service was very slow with long windows of time before our server returned. The most engaged interaction we had was with James, a chef, who came to offer alternatives as one of the selections was unavailable. Although the food was slightly higher priced, as expected for the view, the quality was average. Our check was not correct on delivery. The entree came with a lava cake because it was on the Valentine's sweetheart menu. I wish the portions were bigger for the price. It's a little expensive, but a great place to eat if you want a great experience in San Antonio! It's conveniently located at the top of the Tower of the America's, and the view is amazing. We had lunch there after visiting the very top observation area, and it just completes the experience of viewing downtown from above. The service was great, but the food took a while to prepare and serve, all in all, we spent a little over an hour and a half there, but it was worth it. I had the sea bass, which was cooked perfectly and the soy broth with the mixed vegetables was also perfect! To me, one of the best parts was the rotating floor/restaurant that goes around all of SA, letting you see the area around you. I definitely recommend Chart, but I would say that you shouldn't have anything planned for a specific timeframe for after your lunch/dinner. Will definitely come back! read more

I came here a few months ago while in town for a conference. The space here is actually stunning, but is not being utilized to its full potential. The ventilation was extremely poor, as nearly everyone (patrons and workers) at the round bar were sweating profusely, the seating was ridiculously minimal, and the service was painfully slow for the amount of people they had manning the bar. The bartenders were very cordial and the drinks were great, but it wasn't enough to keep me there, nor to recommend to any friends or visitors. There's nothing special about anything, other than the view. It's a $200-400 dinner with the taste of Golden Corral or Ponderosa. That's the quality of the food. The steaks are tough. The lobster tail didn't taste fresh. The off menu Mac and cheese had plenty of watered down cheese for a $12 add on. Lots of cardboard tasting. No bread or any complimentary starter, that all other fine dining offers. No specials on menu. Not one exciting part of menu. I did expect more for the most expensive dinner I've ever bought. Without the view at a ponderosa I found have paid $37 for two without the wine. Food ( 1 star) - lacks taste. Flavor was generic. bland. The steaks were gritty and unflavored, even with a $3 seasoned butter up charge. -$14 bowl of lobster bisque was absolutely insulting. Like it had fake lobster seasoning. Lots of flour. ZERO pieces of lobster. Not a hint of lobster in it. What was I paying for exactly? The mashed potatoes were gritty. Reheated, and old. I didn't taste any garlic in them. Atmosphere- the you do rotate that's fun. You can experience the sunset. We went at 8:15. Great time to catch the sun going down to the night lights. Air conditioning was HORRIBLE! It was soooo hot. Made it very uncomfortable while eating. Took a lot away from the environment. When you can't be comfortable and sweat just from sitting, it's too hot inside. It would be nice if they fixed this. There's lighting and picture in walls that rotate and impose a huge glare on windows. Decor is very outdated. The tables and cushions are 80's ish. The music was loud, boring. Took away from the experience. Total crappy music. Nice classical, jazz, or something would be better. If they fixed a few things, it could make the average consumer feel better about the experience. 1. Comp parking with a dinner reservation. 2. Add some nice bread and butter to make it feel like a fine dining experience. 3. Fix the AC. Beyond the easier fixes. 4. Let's get a real lead chef. Make this menu stand out. With flavor. And make it respectable. It's insulting and sad this is what they call quality. I hope there are other Landry's are better. Over all it's even declined from a few years ago when I went. It still is over priced, very low quality food. I do not recommend wasting your money. Been coming here for years and have always gotten the same thing & had a great experience. Honestly loved it & would come celebrate special occasions here. However, it seems they have taken my favorite dish, the only reason I came here, off the menu. Please bring back the old shrimp pasta! This new one wasn't even good and was definitely incomparable to the old one. In addition, our server seemed to forget about us multiple times. Expensive af but the food was tasty. Came here to celebrate my mothers birthday and the waitress was very attentive to us and the people around us. I got the lobster bisque and my mom got the clam chowder, both come with chives on top. Both were good but the clam chowder was better. Drinks were definitely overpriced. Anyways, I got the filet mignon and my mom got the prime rib, prime rib came out almost raw but it was an easy fix. My steak was small but it had a ton of flavor! Probably the softest piece of meat of ever had, like butter. The mashed potatoes I wasn't expecting to be that good but it was packed with amazing garlic flavor. The coconut shrimp was okay I have had better. And the desserts I wish were bigger.
