Came back for a manicure and it was great. I usually avoid getting manis because the techs always hurt me or screw up the shape of my nails. But this mani was very impressive. I think I found my new nail place! Great location! Right next to the circulator and metro bus stops! I got a full set of acrylics with gel polish. I made a same day appointment and they held to the appointment. There wasn't a rush, which was so nice. Lana did my manicure and was great. I made an appointment with Kelly because of the rave Yelp reviews, but my experience was anything but charming! I told her I wanted a full set and short almond-shaped nails. She replied, "o, you're going to give me problems." Excuse me, you said what to a paying customer? She also said, "I don't like short nails, I like long nails." Well, that's great for you. I tried to make small talk, but she was extremely curt and short. But when one of her customers came into the shop complaining about an issue with her nails, she was extremely rude. I'm shocked that her bad attitude has not been checked by her colleagues since it's bad for business. In terms of quality, some of my nails were uneven and I had to reshape four nails when I got home. Two nails also smudged hours later that evening and I question the integrity of their products, since I witnessed them reusing a solution. The main point: there are other nail salons in D.C. with technicians that have far superior skills, are more affordable and definitely have more accommodating and positive attitudes. The second I walked in I asked if they had a certain polish, and one of the other nail techs immediately heard me and pointed to the right one (OPI let's be friends). I hate to write this review. I used to be a regular at Charming Nails when John and Kelly were the owners. I haven't been back since they left but decided to give them a try today. The location is convenient for me! Not worth it. The salon isn't the same. My appointment was for 3:30. The nail tech didn't start until around 3:45 and didn't finish until 5:55 (no exaggeration because I was watching the time like a hawk!). I was so frustrated because my daughter had to be picked up from school by 6 and this appointment was NOT worth a late fee! In full transparency, I was 5 minutes late (hello Georgetown parking!), they called like they were waiting on me only for me to arrive and have to wait. The lady (didn't get her name) who did my nail and pedi, was really nice and took her time (that I didn't have). I'm just not used to it taking almost 2 hours. I'm usually in and out in 1.5 hrs max! Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back because in the almost 3 years that been wearing sns, I've NEVER had it smudge (see index finger)! My two friends and I usually go to Elegance Nails but we have to take an uber ride to get there. We decided to give Charming Nails a chance because it is a short walk away. You walk into the place and you're nostrils are instantly inhaling strong fumes. These are not normal nail salon fumes. There is no absolutely no ventilation in this place. Honestly don't know how the nail techs don't fear for their health. By the way, we had made appointments in advance. When we showed up to our appointment ON TIME we waited for 45 MINUTES. Okay so one nail tech fixes my one nail which is what I made my nail appointment for. But, I thought because I waited that long to get my one nail fixed I should get a quick paint job done. The second nail tech who was reshaping my nail had to ask the first one if she could paint my nails. The first nail tech refused for her to do it because my appointment was just to fix the one nail. But then she proceeded to say that she was allowed to paint over my already yellow nails (with the purple color i had picked out), but couldn't take the 30 seconds to remove my previous color. Needless to say I should have never cheated on Elegance (for acrylic) or Annie's (good mani-pedi for walk-ins) down the street. read more

NOT so charming after all. Went in to ask if they did matte because any nail salon around after 2000 should be able to acquire a bottle of matte top coat. She says they have it. Great! I show her what I want because I've learned describing doesn't always yield the best result. It's matte with French tip, any five year old with tape can achieve a neat result. She said we don't have time for that. We have an appt at 1:45. It's 1:20.... Does the shop close after the 1:45 appt??? They quickly dismissed me because I wasn't willing to settle for something other than what I wanted. I'm paying, right?? I should be able to get what I request. I was really looking forward to my visit to this salon, given the extremely positive reviews on Yelp. As someone who just recently moved to D.C., this was also my first attempt to find a good salon in the area which was also affordable. I am leaving this review because I really wanted to enjoy my time there and was genuinely disappointed by my experience. I had signed up for a manicure/pedicure combo, which was supposed to be 60 minutes long. The technician was initially friendly, but at the very outset pressured (unlike making a one-time suggestion) me to upgrade my service to a more expensive polish service, and kept insisting that I was making the wrong choice, even when I politely declined. This definitely did not make me feel good to start out with. I had already committed to $50+ to try a new salon and enjoy what I had hoped would be a soothing experience, going only off of the reviews I had read here, and did not appreciate being made to feel that the service I had signed up for was subpar. After this, both services were performed in a rather rushed and perfunctory way, and did not feel relaxing at all. All filing and buffing was done quite brusquely (and one hand was not buffed at all until I said something). Overall I felt a sense of impatience, like the whole thing was something to get over and be done with, and the entire visit was done in 45 minutes, after which the technician dashed out. To confirm my suspicion, another customer arrived for a manicure at the same time as my manicure was started, and the was still being attended to by someone else long after my polish had been applied. Not sure if it was an off-day for that specific technician, but at the end of the day it was just not a pleasant experience. read more

I made a reservation for 2 pedicures and 2 manicures for a saturday. The reservation was confirmed and when we showed up for our time slot, it was evident that the salon had just started 2 people for pedicures like 5-10 min before us--so we clearly were going to have to wait. We waited close to 20-10 minutes after our reservation time before we were even started on our pedicures--We were about 5 min from walking out because the wait time was so long for having made a reservation days in advance. The actual pedicure was good. The staff are friendly, the music was fun and current and the quality of the polish is great. I got a gel manicure. As other's have stated before, there's a 2 week anti-chip policy and it's quite official--there's a slip of paper and everything--which is awesome!!. My actual nails are absolute crap, and the folk at Charming Nails definitely made them look great. The color and polish were high quality OPI and a week later everything is still holding up well. It's a win in my book. Paying was another hassle. Pay in cash, you'll get a discount that's actually worth the trouble of getting cash...however all services are added up by hand which leaves room for human error...as was the case when I was paying. My friend was actually like, oh you were supposed to take 5% off (for checking in on yelp!) but you didn't so she overpaid. And yep, I did and the guy then gave me back a few dollars because of it. Overall, this place is cute and I'd go back--would be 4 stars if the logistics of waiting for our reservation and paying weren't so clunky and disorganized. read more

My wonderful SO gave me a Groupon ages ago for a gel manicure. I called about 20 minutes before I wanted to get my nails done and was able to get an appointment. Charming is squeezed between two stores and you'd miss it if they didn't have a sign out front. Shop was super clean and Kelly was very nice, offering me a selection of drinks. I love what she did with my nails. She took her time getting my nails just right and helped me pick out a color that will work for the office and New Years Eve. I had a cracked nail and she was able to repair it without having to file my nail super short. I don't live near Charming but if I have free time (which I don't) I'd make the trip over. read more
