I had an amazing experience at Chapter IV. Me and 3 friends had a lovely brunch during Mardi Gras season. The waitress was fantastic, the food was delicious, the ambiance was top tier. My food was delicious even though I had trouble deciding what I wanted to eat with all the great sounding dishes. I'd been here for another private event during Essence too. 10 out of 10 would recommend! Started with their version of an expresso martini and the chapter IV salad as an appetizer. My friends enjoyed the gumbo, crab cakes, and corn and crab bisque. The service was great except they fumbled the appetizer and meal order. The food pretty much came out all at the same time. So next time order your apps first and once they come out then put your meal in. Also make a reservation online because there's limited seating inside the dining area. The main was the fish and grits and nothing disappointed! I could have licked the bowl. Grits were creamy and well seasoned. The catfish was fried perfectly. I also enjoyed a blood mary as a second cocktail and their homemade mix was refreshing with just the right amount of kick. I literally cannot wait to go back and try some more items in the menu. This was my first time here . The ambiance seemed nice, decent music. We were a party of 25 and had a scaled down menu. So we were only able to get the items on that menu. Im assuming it was because the restaurant closed at 3 and our reservation time was for 1. They were not able to accommodate us with the variety of choices on the menu. Our choices were shrimp and grits , garden omelette, and chicken and pancakes. But i don't understand why appetizers were not included in the menu. And we could not order any. We wanted to get drinks and needed to eat a little something with our drinks before our meals came. We were denied. And Very disappointed. The food did not take long to come out once we ordered. I got the chicken and pancakes. The chicken breast did not have any flavor. The pancakes were very good buttery soft and airy. My cousin had the shrimp and grits. The sauce had a great flavor, but the shrimps were very rubbery and not sure if they were overcooked or undercooked. Because they looked clear . They were definitely not Louisiana shrimps which was disappointing seemed like frozen shrimps. The grits were very cheesy and had a decent taste. My niece had the garden omelette she said it was good but could be better with the sauce of the shrimp and grits over it. The drinks were good. I had a Leah's garden . Reminded me of a Mojito , very refreshing . My cousin had a rum punch that was also good. I will definitely return because there were several items on the menu that I would've liked to try. read more

I went here on today 9/28/24 & I fell in love with this place. My friend & I came here unexpectedly & we got seated w/out a reservation promptly. We ordered 2 green tea shots, & 2 raspberry lemon drops, oysters Rockefeller, crab cake, catfish with grits, pancakes with fried chicken..... Drum roll, the food came out all at once so the supervisor caught it & comped the starters. Luckily, everything was hot & fresh..... The crab cake was enough for two people & it was all crab meat no stuffing. The oysters were delicious with pickled red onions & pickled jalapeños on top. The entrees were superb & so were the drinks. My friend & I both agreed that this family's chain of restaurants never disappoints! The only bad part was that this GEM closes at 3pm daily..... read more

I realllllly wanted to love this place, but it just didn't meet my expectations in regard to food. Don't get me wrong, the decor and overall space is very gorgeous, clean, and classy. The staff were all pleasant (even the woman who asked my friend and I to get up and move down the bar while we were eating *bombastic side eye*), but the food is what left me just feeling ok. The general crowd definitely gave 35+ year old professionals; they seemed to really enjoy themselves, so maybe I'd enjoy it more 10 years from now? Again, I had HIGH hopes that this would be one of the best brunches I've had in a while, but unfortunately, there was much left to be desired. The presentation was lovely, but the food was not as great as I'd hope. The shrimp and grits: the grits were pretty good, however I was expecting more than literal shrimp and grits-- a little sausage or peppers or something could've been included also, as most other establishments do. The sauce was very oily and almost drowned the grits. The apple cobbler was not good; it lacked flavor. My friend was not very impressed by her meal either. read more

I can't believe I just tried this place in 2024, I'm so late! But it was soooo good! Every single thing that came to the table hit the spot! We started off with the oyster rockefeller and the sweet chili wings and ribs. Those ribs omg! Soooo good! We tore these up. I ordered the chicken and pancakes for my entree and the pancakes were so good and fluffy. The chicken wasn't seasoned the best but it still was really good. I also got a side of grits which were so good! I can't wait to go back! It was also really clean and modern in here. read more

For Father's Day, Rachel and Pearlette took me to "Chapter IV," which is Edgar "Dook" Chase, IV's hip new restaurant in downtown New Orleans. Being from New Orleans and raised on Ms. Leah Chase's food from the historic "Dooky Chase Restaurant" on Orleans Avenue, I was expecting the best but would understand if it didn't quite measure up to Ms. Leah's cooking. I have to admit I wasn't disappointed; Ms. Leah taught Dook well. We started with the Oyster Rockefeller and Sweet Chili Wings and Ribs; both dishes were excellent. I am very particular about my fried oysters; they were fried perfectly, neither too soft nor too hard. They were crisp and tasty. The ribs and wings were also excellent, and the sweet chili sauce was delicious. Pearlette had creole gumbo, the right color, and taste. Then, for entrees, Pearlette had Grilled Redfish, crab fried rice (the first I had heard of this), and grilled squash and zucchini. What little she allowed me to eat was very tasty. Rachel had citrus-glazed salmon with charred asparagus and potatoes. Not only did this dish taste good, but the glazed salmon was beautiful. I had fish and grits (fried farmed-raised catfish), crawfish, and andouille maque choux creole grits. OMG! This meal was fantastic; the fish, fried to perfection, and the maque choux were outstanding, but the grits were truly exceptional. I am a Southerner, and I love my grits, but these grits were off the scale in goodness. We also had hot, homemade biscuits, which we used to sop up the Sweet Chili sauce. The entire experience was fantastic, and we plan on going again. The staff was friendly and professional. The restaurant, including the restroom, was orderly, well-appointed, and very clean. They also have very beautiful art work on the walls, that remind me of the many works of art that adorn the walls of the Dooky Chase restaurant. Mr. Edgar "Dook" Chase, IV, you did an excellent job, and know that "Chapter IV" is a hit. In a city of great restaurants, that says a lot. Ms. Leah is smiling proudly down at you. read more

Went here for lunch with a coworker and we were thoroughly impressed! The food, service, and ambiance were top tier. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now so I was excited when my coworker suggested we go here for lunch. When we got in we were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated, they do take reservations so I recommend calling ahead of time if you have a large party. Our waitress was very kind and answered all of our menu questions. I decided to try the Catfish and grits, it was delicious. The grits were so creamy and the catfish was fried to perfection 10 out of 10! Also, our food came out pretty fast which is always a plus when you're hungry. The ambiance was very nice, everything was clean. Whoever decorated did a great job, great art selection. They are located in the CBD so be prepared to pay for parking. This place is a good addition to the Chase family's restaurants. I'd recommend reservations since it looks like things get busy quickly. We went on a Saturday before a Broadway play. The music and ambiance were good. The food was good. Seasoning is not of concern since it was well seasoned. I had the BBQ Shrimp as a starter and the grilled redfish and it was delicious. The redfish came with crab fried rice and yellow squash and zucchini. I got to try the citrus glazed salmon that my friend ordered and it was good also. I'll definitely be back to try other items. read more

The ambience and beautiful decor was on point. I was very pleased with service and taste of food. My only drawback was the cost and amount. Ordered Bowl of seafood gumbo $12 which was more of a cup not a bowl Oysters on toast which was overflowing with oysters and tasty (Oysters are expensive) Fish n grits substituted for crab fried rice ($2.00 upcharge which was 1/2 serving of grits which was fine) Fish was a small serving for $19. Instead of a filet it was 3 small strips Arnold Palmer was very tasty and perfect The teamwork is remarkable. Mrs Lisa was Amazing and accommodated all of my needs. Gavin the Executive Chef was wonderful. $68.00 total for lunch with the servings was a little expensive to me and I am a foodie. Excited to visit the newest restaurant from the legendary Ms. Leach Chase!!!! Chapter IV is squeaky clean, the white wall are super shiny, it's so clean!!! The space has a lot of natural light which I really like (nice for photos). The service was good. My friend and I went on a good day (Wednesday afternoon). It wasn't overly crowded (glad we missed the crazy lunch rush). Chapter IV does close really early (3:00 P.M.). It would be cool if they could have a little happy hour especially since it's in the CBD. The food is AMAZING! My friend and I were so satisfied! I had the fish and grits. My friend had the salmon. I didn't try the gumbo. My friend loved it. He needed a bigger portion (too small for him lol). We both had the same cocktail which was Leah's garden....soooo refreshing!!! Amazing very quaint restaurant perfect for brunch or an early lunch! Sat at bar and the grits were amazing and the signature cocktails!

The food was good, but a cheap lunch it ain't. I went with a group of coworkers for lunch on a Tuesday. There were 5 of us and we did not have reservations. Luckily we got there early enough to beat the lunch rush and were immediately seated at a tall round table. The table had proportionately tall chairs with low backs; nice for the aesthetic, but uncomfortable. I got the seafood linguine, which was very nice. Despite having a fair share of butter, it felt a lot lighter than the typical smothered-in-sauce pasta dishes. It was a refreshing change of pace. Initially I had also wanted a cup of gumbo, but they only had a $10 size which I assume was a bowl, so that was kind of disappointing. The kicker here was cost. I'm still adjusting to the new inflation prices, so I'm giving some leeway, but $31.07 (all inclusive) feels like a lot for lunch, especially since I could've easily eaten it all in one sitting. I would hope at that price at lunch I'd at least have enough leftover for another meal. My table decided to pay via the QR codes on our checks. When you pay that way there is a tip selected by default. However, we were considered a large group so gratuity was already included in our bills; if we hadn't caught that and selected a custom tip of zero, we would have double-tipped. There is a bus stop hub nearby, so it's fairly easy to get to by public transit. If you drive you're going to have to pay for parking, but the HEAL parking garage is nearby. read more

On a recent visit to a charming Southern-inspired restaurant, I had the pleasure of experiencing a meal that was as memorable for its service as it was for the outstanding food. From the moment I walked in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere set the stage for what would be an exceptional dining experience. The service was nothing short of top-notch. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, with a keen sense of timing that ensured our glasses were never empty and our plates were cleared promptly. The server's knowledge of the menu was impressive, offering insightful suggestions that enhanced the meal. Every interaction was marked by genuine hospitality, making us feel valued and cared for throughout our visit. **The Meal: A Southern Symphony** The star of the evening was undoubtedly the catfish and grits. The catfish was perfectly cooked, with a crispy, golden-brown exterior that gave way to tender, flavorful fish inside. The grits were creamy and rich, providing a comforting base that paired beautifully with the catfish. A subtle hint of spice in the seasoning tied the dish together, making each bite a delightful blend of textures and flavors. To accompany the meal, I opted for a Bloody Maria, which was a bold twist on the classic Bloody Mary. The drink was expertly balanced, with the tequila adding a smoky depth that complemented the tomato's tanginess. Garnished with pickled vegetables it was the perfect cocktail to kick off the day. The crab salad was another highlight, featuring fresh, sweet crab meat tossed in a light, dressing. The salad was vibrant, with crisp greens, juicy tomatoes, and a touch of beets, providing a refreshing contrast to the richness of the catfish and grits. The portion was generous, yet it managed to remain light and satisfying. For dessert, the Creole cheesecake was a revelation. A smooth, creamy cheesecake infused with just the right amount of ingredients, it offered a unique and decadent finish to the meal. The crust was buttery and crumbly, while the cheesecake itself was rich without being overwhelming. A drizzle of berry sauce added a sweet, luxurious touch that left me wishing for just one more bite. This restaurant delivered an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The combination of outstanding service and quality food made for a night to remember. Whether you're a fan of Southern cuisine or just looking for a meal that will leave you thoroughly satisfied, this is a place worth visiting. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of the menu, but the catfish and grits, Bloody Maria, crab salad, and Creole cheesecake have already set a high bar that will be hard to beat. read more

I've been wanting to try Chapter IV for brunch and finally got the chance to over the weekend. The restaurant was packed when I arrived, but I was able to sit at the bar. Giselle was nice and gave great recommendations. I started with the gumbo, and it reminded me of my grandma's (old school filé). The gumbo had chicken, sausage, hot sausage, and shrimp in it. The rice was a little hard. I do think $12 was pricey for the portion. The same portion is $8 at other restaurants in the city. I also ordered the catfish and grits. The grits were creamy topped with fried catfish, corn maque choux, and crawfish tails. The dish was delicious! Unfortunately, the restaurant only serves unsweetened tea, so I opted for the lemonade. The lemonade was made in-house and had a good flavor. Overall, the restaurant was clean and beautiful. The staff was friendly, and the food was pretty good. It did take a long time for me to get my check because the bar staff had a lot of drink orders to fulfill. Although I'm not a fan of the neighborhood, I would return. read more

I came here for a birthday brunch during my recent trip to New Orleans and this was a standout meal! I always have high expectations when visiting this city and this restaurant is upholding those standards. The location is great, decor is classy, lovely outdoor seating and it was extremely clean including the restrooms. We were a party of 7 and our waitress was polite and attentive, she kept my water glass full, the table joked about how I was working her because I drink so much water. I ordered the chapter lV salad and it was excellent, super fresh and all the toppings complimented each other. The pepper jelly vinaigrette was a standout, an unexpected dressing I'd love to try making at home. I got the redfish for my entree and it was superb, perfectly seasoned, excellent portion, and reasonably priced. The crab fried rice was far better than expected, this is a plate where you want a little of everything on each forkful. 3 of us ordered this dish and we all cleared our plates. Only bummer was someone at our table wanted a pancake a la carte but we were informed the chef doesn't allow that. I look forward to visiting again and ordering the exact same thing because it was just that good, $38 for the salad and entree was well worth it! read more

An enormous disappointment for our son's 30th birthday. The minute we entered and told the hostess of our 12:30 pm reservation, an over zealous employee came out of nowhere, citing without question, "there's a hour and a half wait time." How stupid did she look when the fact of the reservation was repeated. We were seated 35 minutes before asking for a manager due to no service. When the waitress finally arrived, she stated that she had three other orders to take before ours. Who does that! She never returned, literally. After the second complaint to an employee, a woman came to the table to take the order, but did not acknowledge that she was the manager requested until being told that we were waiting on the manager. She took the order, and in less than 20 minutes, it arrived fresh and hot. Still no waitress who had passed our table and look our way without ever stopping to provide service. Finally, again, she came by over 90 minutes into the dining experience to ask if we wanted dessert. CHECK PLEASE!!!!! Zero is always our hero when dealing with servers who are lazy, inattentive, bias, prejudice, disrespectful, or plain ole' dumb. Chapter IV is ONE and DONE! No more opportunities to ruin a special occasion brunch. read more
