The food was good and the service was great. My server, Gino took good care of me. The Mushroom Veronique was so amazing I missed taking a picture. I also suggest you try the shrimp and grits. It's not something I'm usually a fan of, but their fried cheese and grits patty with their special cream sauce changed my mind. On a rainy night in New Orleans, sorry Brook Benton (my first ever Brook Benton reference), my friend and I headed to Galliano Restaurant on Julia for happy hour oysters and dinner, but mostly the oysters. Long rainy but fabulous day at JazzFest left us in a hungry mood for more of that great stuff that Nola serves up best. My friend started with an Old Fashioned that she very much enjoyed which I know because she got it refreshed. I ordered the Rougaroux which was too good and refreshing so I nursed it through the meal as this cocktail went down too easy and I'm a lightweight and cheap date so I know my limit. We had an excellent server who recommended we order the BBQ Pork Belly with our 1/2 dozen Louisiana select oysters. I would have loved the char grilled but I'm gluten intolerant and they use flour and I can't go for that. I hope Daryl Hall doesn't sue me. We split the 6 oysters and they were ginormous, tender and sweet. With the side fixings of cocktail sauce and mignonette (also horseradish but I'm not a fan of this condiment as I feel sorry for the horse), we were in oyster heaven and my friend is relatively new to the raw oyster game really enjoyed these delights. Next came the BBQ pork Belly with Honey Crystal hot sauce glaze, andouille and tasso mach choux, creamy mash potatoes, fried okra, pickled red onion. This was one of the best pork bellies I've ever had because it was so meaty, perfectly prepared with just the right small amount of fat keeping it tender and the glaze with the mach choux and creamy mash potatoes was so good we easily could have thrown in the towel and screamed No Mas. We didn't so wait, there is more. We split the Lamb Chops two ways, one a lamb chop with an excellent Chimichurri Sauce and a lamb sausage. I thank the Mary Poppins films for introducing the world the Chimichurri sauce. The lamb chop was excellent while the lamb sausage was good, very lamby and a bit too salty. Rougaroux Flor de Cana white rum, Bayou Spice Rum ,blood orange sour, black cherry syrup, Regan's Orange bitters Louisiana "Select" Raw Oysters With horseradish, cocktail sauce and toasted filé mignonette Half-Dozen BBQ Pork Belly Honey Crystal hot sauce glaze, andouille and tasso mach choux, creamy mash potatoes, fried okra, pickled red onion Lamb Two Ways 2 Lamb loin chops and Lamb sausage grilled and served on a sizzling plate with Chimichurri, asparagus, roasted fingerling potatoes This joint inside is comfortable with the look of an unfinished warehouse but not in a bad way at all. Booths surround the exterior in the one large dining area, nice bar and a smoky aroma that enhances the taste buds without causing one to run out to safety. Galliano is a classic Southern restaurant, located close to the Convention Center. I visited as a group dinner and it was a nice cozy experience with great food. We got the Bayou Feast designed for groups, and it features a wide selection from the regular menu. =DRINKS= - The cocktail list is impressive. The highlight of my visit was the smoked old fashion: Four Roses Bourbon, muddled with fresh orange, cherries, and fresh Louisiana sugar cane. It arrives in a carafe infused with smoked with cherry wood chips, and you get a healthy dose of smoke with the pour at tableside. =APPS= - My favorite was the baked mushrooms, a hearty appetizer stuffed with honey goat cheese, a cheese blend, and a white wine garlic sauce. There's a random grape in the middle which worked surprisingly well. - Baked oysters were alright; oysters are huge. There was a lot of crunchy batter. - I'm picky so I passed on the Cajun peel and eat gulf shrimp, meat pies, raw oysters, and alligator creole (yes feel free to judge me--but this means more food for everyone else!) =MAINS= - I chose the red wine braised short ribs, and it was extremely tender and satisfying comfort food. 10oz is a generous portion! It came with garlic mashed potatoes. It arrived with a rosemary stalk that was literally lit (I blew it out like a bday candle), a creative addition for a strong earthy aroma. - Their signature pork chop was a tour de force, a giant piece of Andouille-stuffed roasted pork. It would be enough to feed me for days! - The vegetarian carnival vegetable platter caught my eye, but it has no protein. =DESSERT= - NY style guava cheesecake was good, but I was already stuffed and couldn't finish it. Checked out Galliano yesterday for New Orleans Restaurant Week and I'm glad I did! They're offering a 3-course meal for $56 and had one of the larger selections, which is what drew us in. I started with the beet salad (shoutout to our waiter for recommending it over the Caesar, most people don't go for beets, so I knew I had to try it). He didn't lie! It was fresh, flavorful, and the portion was huge. For the entree, I went with the short ribs. Gotta be honest, I wasn't a fan, the beef had a strange aftertaste and there was way too much gravy for me. BUT I tasted my friend's gulf fish and ... yeah, I'll definitely be back for that. I walked into this restaurant spur or the moment, by myself and offered to sit at the bar. The waiter asked if I would prefer a table - so rare!! I had two appetizers - the Shrimp Galliano and the Mushrooms Veronique with a couple of glasses of Pinot Grigio. The reception was warm but hesitate until I confirmed I had a reservation. We were promptly seated. The ambiance was typical quarter...nothing too fancy. When we inquired where the oysters came from the stare we got was funny eventually the server said...their local. The raw came first and there were about 3 small/ medium oysters and 3 of the largest oysters I've ever seen. Let me add context...one of my guest is an oyster scientist and he refused to eat them. The baked oysters were over breaded in the planko and the taste was bland. The gumbo was and is a keeper! Exceptional gumbo. My photos are horrible but the food was very good! This was my first visit to NOLA and my first meal here. We were a party of 6 and everyone said it was the perfect "taste of New Orleans"! The pork chop had some heat but my friend said it was very tasty. The burger was Wagu so ...delicious. The smoked shrimp she said was fantastic. The only item that was not good was the chicken. It was very dry. Everyone loved their cocktails and dessert of course. Our waiter was really fun and very accommodating...he only works once a week so some of the items he was not sure about but he got the answers and was very attentive. We are local and finally made our way to this place. They were completely packed during restaurant week! They had one of the best menus so we went in on a Friday night. The food was really fresh and tasty. All of the servers were collectively helping everyone. What really impressed me was the owner/manager himself literally jumping in and contributing to everything. He was cleaning tables, greeting customers, delivering food and drinks- literally everything. It shows that he has a pulse on everything happening and that is very rare to see. They turned out to be an amazing experience as the bartender was witty and sweet! We both started with the seafood gumbo and added Crystal hot sauce. It was delicious! I had my birthday dinner here this year and it was fabulous. I was traveling with just my husband so it was a quiet one, but I was expecting good food and drinks and that's what I got. We started with the Cajun Wellington, which was a unique twist that was saucy, flavorful and had a nice flaky crust. The gumbo was excellent and my husband said it's the best gumbo he's ever had. The pork chop was cold smoked and so tender. The andouille sausage stuffed in it was delicious. By the time we go to the chocolate mousse cake, we were stuffed, but it was so decadent and rich that we ate most of it. Drinks were excellent too! I had dirty martinis and an espresso martini. Galiano We made reservations to another restaurant down the street. As we passed Galiano's it caught our attn and we became unsure of our reservation. Sure enough, we get to our reservation, and we didn't like the ambiance and didn't feel comfortable, we looked at each other and just knew we wanted to go to the first restaurant we saw. We got up , politely said we weren't staying and bolted out. We walked happily to Galiano's not even knowing what food or anything but it looked inviting . Just as we thought , very inviting from the moment we walked in. Joshua greeted us and sat us wherever we felt comfortable and just took our drink order and explained the menu and the specials. I've never been to a restaurant where you can't order appetizers before your meal--everything has to be ordered all at once, which makes no sense. The pork belly appetizer was overcooked and tough. Traditionally, pork belly should be so tender you can cut it with a butter knife, but I needed a steak knife. I ordered the wagyu burger, which came as two patties on a baguette bun, and it was burnt to a crisp when I asked for medium rare. When I asked the manager to take it back, they responded with a cold attitude, and after that, no one checked on our table for the rest of the meal. They did remove the burger from our bill, so I decided to try the banana foster pie. Big mistake. The skillet was hot, but the pie itself was ice cold. To end the night on an even worse note, they don't allow split checks or itemized receipts, which made it impossible to expense or split the bill properly. My father in law was talking to the front desk at our hotel and asked, where do the locals eat? The front desk tells him, while in town you must visit Galliano Restaurant. I want to make everyone happy on our trip so we leave Bourbon St and head towards a different side of town via Uber based on a suggestion. Once we're dropped off, the host stand has a table ready to accommodate our party. We order drinks and two dozen Oysters to get the party started. The oysters, I understand they're chargrilled but they tasted more like baked Oysters topped with dry breadcrumbs. Good? Yes, but not mind blowing. We also ordered the double cut Pork Chop Laplace. Again, good but not what I wanted for our party. Everyone wanted gumbo, crawfish and other local specialties. Galliano Restaurant looks like a great bar to sip on some outrageous cocktails. Well the food was good hovering on great but the service was not good at all. Let me list why! 1) People in my group had to wait at least 30 min for a drink they ordered. Others on my group had received their drinks and were ready for another and everyone was still waiting! 2) What the heck with a closed kitchen. It was an in conscience when we wanted to add additional appetizers. We got our way but not without a pushback. I thought they were here to make money. We loved the Wagyu Arancini app. It's fried as a ball shape which provides different textures when broken apart. The flavor was rich but not so rich you couldn't eat the entire plate yourself. I'd also recommend both our main dishes Wagyu Po'boy cheese burger and swamp pasta. Both as described with great flavors. Fried gator was not tough. The service was friendly and the wait time for food was as expected - not too long, but not sure of exact time. Ambiance was not excessively upscale and not too casual. Ok, I'm here to be nothing but Real... For context, I'm a NOLA native. 1) the steak was the saltiest piece of meat i've ever had in my life. (I've had a lot of steaks). 2) the gumbo was not good. it was extremely watery and barely had any seafood or flavor. 3) the bbq shrimp was extremely THIQUE. Like? It was not traditional at all. honestly...get bbq shrimp elsewhere. Just being honest here. 4) the fall seasonal salad was a joke. are we at a michelin star restaurant ? No... i'm sorry but no.. If you're in NOLA, please. there are so many other places you can go to enjoy yourself. I will say, our waitress was AMAZING. Caroline was 10/10. She did everything she could and made the best recommendations that she could. the drinks (4 mint juleps, were VERY good.) I'm not one to write harsh reviews, but I was just so extremely disappointed tonight. New Orleans always boasts some of the finest cuisines in all of the land and this quaint little restaurant right across from the Convention Center will blow your tastebuds into a whole new creole dimension! Manny the owner was a rock star and gave us the breakdown on all the dishes and absolutely incredible cocktails! The traditional Old Fashioned with the cherry smoke filled flask was impeccable! The Spicy Louisiana Crab Cheesecake was absolutely mouthwatering and such a fun breakaway from a traditional crab cake! The baked Oysters were the perfect side kick to the start of our desert, however DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED on the cornbread! That golden buttered carbohydrate filled goodness is like crack and once you eat a slice, you'll constantly ask for more (it's free too!) Lastly but not least the main entrees were fantastic and although they are well known for their stuffed porkchop with andouille sausage, we all agreed the Swamp Pasta was the bigger rockstar! Decent food and a good time! A group of 8 of us walked in when other restaurants were closed around 830PM. The staff were accommodating in seating us quickly. The waiter was nice enough, although odd that we explained twice that our group doesn't eat pork and he proceeded to list all his favorite pork dishes. Found that to be aloof and disrespectful. The entrees on the menu do tend to have pork, which cannot be removed - so the group mostly did the entree with the crawfish and alligator. Tasted good! Went for a Coolinary date night and while it was still very expensive, the food was superb. The fried green tomatoes were crispy and had remoulade as well as a sort of pepper jelly that really took them to another level. I got the fish dish which was redfish that day, which came with crab meat, asparagus and fried potato balls. All were amazing. My husband got the pork chop and it was probably the best pork chop we've ever had. Thicker than a snicker with a glaze that was flavorful and crispy. Crème brûlée at the end was everything you want it to be. The chocolate pecan brownie pie was more pecans than pie but still good. Would recommend for a splurge. read more

This is my new fave restaurant in NOLA- which I never thought I'd say. I've eaten everywhere and haven't found the size, taste and juiciness of the chargrilled oysters here!
