Had a reservation for right when they begin their Sunday jazz brunch. It went downhill from the moment I checked in. I ordered the brunch menu special which comes with an appetizer, main, and a dessert. Gumbo (1/5) -- very bitter, occasional bits of inedible pieces too tough to swallow safely Eggs benedict over shrimp cakes with potato brabant (2/5) -- the shrimp cakes were mostly filler, each containing maybe one whole shrimp if you get lucky and the mushy texture of them combined with the hollandaise made me so nauseous as they resembled baby food. Asparagus was oversalted while the potatoes had no salt and lost their crispiness within 10 minutes. The only saving grace for this course was their hot sauce, arguably the highlight of the entire meal Bread pudding (2/5) -- had the highest hopes since this is raved about, but it was a pile of mush, lacking any texture whatsoever, sat in the most clawingly sweet sauce. The candied pecans served alongside were quite chewy instead of crisp. Managed to eat the top half only because it wasn't doused in sauce and had a nice crust A huge shout out to my waiters Alice and Marin for their tentativeness. They were on top of things, refilling my water without me having to ask and consistently checking in. On the flip side, the hostess with the short curly hair and blush blindness is quite possibly the rudest I have ever encountered. When I checked in, I did not receive a smile let alone a single glance. She asked me for my name and instead ordered someone else to take me to my table. On my way out, she failed to say goodbye to me and others even though she had nothing to do but sit at the front. Jazz 5/5 -- I came mostly for this experience and loved it. The group played me a song of my choice and played around the room for about 30 minutes before going to other dining areas. Unfortunately, the jazz and wait staff did not make up for the food. So, I was in NOLA for work last summer and managed to get to this historic location before I left town. It was kind of on my trip's bucket list since this place is so historic and a cultural icon to the city. I've passed by it multiple times while walking through Lafayette Park and have heard the ghostly stories on a few walking tours. I've also heard they give a pretty authentic food experience so of course I had to step in at least once and try it out! Walking through the doors, you can just feel the history. Every nook and cranny is covered in artwork and brickwork. The building is pretty neat to take a walk through, many neat little places to explore (like an indoor-ish courtyard on the way to the bathrooms, very neat). I tried the full NOLA experience with a sazerac cocktail, classic shrimp and grits and bread pudding to finish it all off. Everything was pretty good. Not my favorite shrimp and grits (I rather have a creamier sauce) but it was still cooked perfectly and tasty. The bread pudding and the cocktail were very good. Service was top notch. You know they only hire top talent because no one was slaking off or taking it easy. Full service meant full service. There was always someone to fill your glass, take a plate and check on your table. Prices were on the higher side but this place is a fancy location and the service is top notch so I didn't feel like I was getting fleeced. Great date night or celebration spot for sure. If you are looking for a well renowned establishment that offers a great experience in the heart of New Orleans, this place would fit the bill. read more

We lucked out and were able to walk in without a reservation on a Tuesday night around 5:30PM with a group of 8. It never hurts to try, and this time it paid off. The atmosphere is historic and the enclosed courtyard near our table was lovely. I had a classic Pimm's Cup cocktail which was refreshing. I had the shrimp and grits for my entree which was amazing. The shrimp were fresh, sweet, and perfectly cooked. The grits were rich and delicious. Service was excellent and our server was able to answer questions about menu items. Visiting Jackson Square, we realized it was 4 o'clock and that means happy hour ( its 5 o'clock somewhere) We headed right in, got a drink at the bar then headed upstairs to the balcony. The view was outstanding and great for people watching. Also got the best view of the famous iron railing across the street. Service was quick and friendly and prices fair. On the corner lot of Jackson Square, this places welcomes you with friendly dapper staff along with a beautifully aesthetic inside. There is a lot of culture popping in here with a lot of artwork around. The menu consists of some great crafted cocktails and a refined menu. They have both a prix fixe menu as well as à la carte. Everything was great, but the sweet potato soup was definitely the standout of all the dishes that we got. Went to Muriel's on our first night in Nola and it did not disappoint. Extremely reasonable wine list and really friendly and polished servers. It's also one of the best deals in town. For $55 you get 3 impossible to choose courses. I started with the goat cheese crepes which were delectable. Followed with one of the best pork chops I've ever had. So good! Shrimp and grits were also terrific. Dessert was chocolate pecan pie which I couldn't stop myself from finishing. We will definitely return! read more

The process was pretty frustrating although the staff seemed to be working very hard and seemed to be pretty frustrated too. I think there might have been a large party in another part of the restaurant that might have been occupying the wait staff. All of the food was pretty good but not spectacular. I have always been a fan of Muriel's as a previous local! The staff was welcoming, courteous, and attentive. We requested a spot away from the windows in our reservation details (as sometimes tours stop outside to look inside- something to mind if you don't fancy being the center of attention), which they were able to accommodate. For the appetizers, we shared the scallops and I had the spinach and apple salad, along with the warm bread. While I did not drink any wine this evening, I was amazed at the delicious lemonade mocktail on the menu instead- SUPER fresh! I had the duck as my entree and to be honest, the star of the show was the potatoes and vegetables that came with it! The duck wasn't disappointing by any means- I mean look at it! What a hearty portion! We were able to be convinced for some dessert and got the crème brûlée which was delicious as well. No visit to Muriel's is complete without exploring the seance room and taking in the atmosphere. I love looking at all the antiques. We went to Muriel's Jackson Square for dinner, and I wish I had read more about the history beforehand. I originally came for the food, which was really good, but the story behind the restaurant ended up being just as interesting. Apparently, a former owner took his own life here, and the restaurant honors him with a permanently set table reserved for his ghost. It's a unique touch, and honestly something I wish we had experienced as part of the visit instead of learning about it afterward while just walking by. There's also a séance lounge/bar upstairs that we didn't know about at the time, so definitely check that out if you go. As for the food, it didn't disappoint. I had the turtle soup and the pork chop, and my significant other ordered the shrimp and grits. Everything was excellent, flavorful and well prepared. The cocktails were great and I really enjoyed the gin fizz. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot if you're in New Orleans. My son and I made advanced online reservations for a weekday dinner at 5:30 pm. We picked Muriel's because they offered the 4-course Reveillon 2025 exclusive menu, only available for 23 days in December. We were seated immediately at a low-top table in one of the lower dining rooms. I noticed they did not have table linens, and the silverware was rolled rather than set. We had alternating servers who were professional but not personable. All four courses were exquisite, from the turtle soup to the lamb. Unfortunately, the enjoyment was spoiled by a large party near us celebrating a birthday. They were loud and obnoxious, acting like they were at a sports bar on bourbon, not at an upscale restaurant that required collared shirts and cost $100+ a person. My son mentioned it to one of the managers, and he just apologized and nothing else. I would have appreciated it if he had spoken with the table or moved us to a quieter part of the restaurant. They did not miss on the food. It was excellent. They missed the experience, which would cause me not to return. Please do not portray yourself as refined and upscale, and then back it up. read more

This place was amazing!! They have live jazz players from 11 am to 2pm on Sundays. Every dish we ordered was reasonably priced and very very tasty! I enjoyed the gumbo, the blackened Mississippi fish, shrimp and goat cheese crepe and a wedge salad with blue cheese. The hosts and servers were so prompt and kind. My daughter and I decided to have dinner at Muriel's. We started with the shrimp crepes which are a MUST! I ordered the double cut pork chop and she had the Drum with crabmeat. We washed it all down with the bread pudding and a decaf coffee with amaretto. Honestly, one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Chloe was our server, and she was the best. I started with the fried green tomatoes topped with delicious crispy fried shrimp & remoulade sauce, followed by a Grilled chicken cobb salad that was amazing, packed with grilled chicken breast, fresh boiled eggs, tomatoes, avocado, bacon, & blue cheese with a perfectly balanced dressing. We also ordered a breakfast omelette that was hands down one of the best I've ever had, paired with hash browns & a fluffy homemade country biscuit with jelly on the side. The mimosas were perfectly poured & refreshing. Our waitress Becky was super sweet & welcoming, it felt like we had known each other forever, & Mari was just as nice & hospitable. We enjoyed brunch while watching the horse carriages pass by, adding to the timeless experience. Then we went upstairs to indulge in the balcony view of Jackson Square, enjoying the live street performances with their upstairs bar & red room, one of my favorite spaces. Even though balcony dining is no longer offered unless for private parties, you can still enjoy the view with drinks from the bar. We arrived early at Muriel's, so we headed to the bar for hurricanes! We never had them before, and we promised friends we'd have one (or two) while we were in New Orleans. Curious about the lounge upstairs, we climbed the stairs to the second floor, drinks in hand. We didn't spend any time upstairs, as the friendly hostess came up after us because our table was now ready. We were seated at the most beautiful table for two, surrounded by art panels, next to a window. Very cozy and private! The three courses for $56 is a good deal, so we ordered the gumbo; shrimp and goat cheese crepes; shrimp and grits; drum with a lemon butter sauce; and the bread pudding. Everything was excellent! This place is one of my new favorite restaurants in New Orleans. I love the historic building, and the cute little ghost table. So interesting and cool! I had such an amazing time at Muriel's! From the ambience, to the food, and to the service - it was worth every minute and penny. My partner and I came here to experience a jazz brunch and had 2 incredible servers, one of whom is named Sunshine and I'm regretful for forgetting the other name. Their energy was just so genuine and they really made sure we enjoyed our time and even gave us local suggestions for our trip! Food wise, it was our very first New Orleans meal and I was pretty wowed. The Crawfish & Goat Cheese Crêpes was this beautifully plated dish with buttery and creamy goodness. This was definitely my favorite dish here. We also shared the Duck & Chaurice Hash which I thought was good but there wasn't a lot of duck and so it tasted mostly of just potatoes. The Turtle Soup au Sherry was a fun dish but for me personally , I don't think I enjoyed the alcohol as much since it tasted strong. The turtle meat was quite delicious however. Lastly, we had their gumbo and for my first gumbo, I really enjoyed it! It's something I'd love to have again. I really was looking forward to trying Muriel's for a Birthday dinner, but sadly it did not live up to the expectations. The ambience was cool with the story of the ghost and plantation dining room feel. The staff was professional and attentive. I highly recommend the lamb empanadas and the bread pudding. Both were really good. That is where is the positives end however. We got the gumbo which was bland, contained very little seafood, and was luke warm. We also got the Cajun Redfish, which was seasoned well but one of the smallest and driest pieces of fish I have ever been served. It was almost insulting that the kitchen would send this mess of an entree out of the kitchen. Muriel's seems to rely too heavily on the lore and ambiance and not enough on serving delicious menu items these days. My biggest waste of a couple hundred bucks of 2025 for sure. read more

The mimosas were excellent, the Bloody Marys were spot on, but the All Shook Up cocktail absolutely stole the show. My fiancée loved it, and it quickly became the standout drink of the morning. Adding to the whole experience was the live jazz. The music was fantastic and created the perfect New Orleans atmosphere without overpowering the conversation at the table. Brunch at Muriel's Jackson Square was exactly what a New Orleans Sunday jazz brunch should be. We arrived right at 11 with a reservation and were seated promptly. Live jazz was already going, present but not too loud. You could actually talk, which matters. Our servers, Bryan and Merlin, were excellent. Friendly, knowledgeable, and dialed in. Their recommendations were spot on all around. We started with cocktails. The Mocha Mint Martini was basically an Andes mint in a glass. Absolut vanilla vodka, chocolate, Bailey's, crème de menthe, vanilla cream. Smooth, dangerous, and you absolutely cannot taste the alcohol. The Vampire's Kiss leaned bright and fruity. Blood orange vodka with strawberry balsamic, cranberry, and lemon. Think fruit roll-up in cocktail form. They brought out warm mini brioche rolls with butter. Flaky, pillowy, and very easy to overdo it. I could have eaten four without thinking twice. For appetizers, we split the seafood gumbo and the split pea soup. The gumbo was savory and comforting, not overly thick, loaded with crab, shrimp, and andouille. Warm and well balanced. The split pea soup was creamy and peppery without needing salt, with small chunks of ham throughout. Simple and very well executed. For mains, we went with the blackened drum and the wood-fired grilled pork chop. The blackened drum came with broccolini and popcorn rice. The fish was tender and flavorful, not aggressively blackened, with a nice buttery sauce and plenty of crab on top. Broccolini was cooked perfectly. The pork chop was excellent. Moist, tender, seasoned just right, and served with mashed potatoes and greens. There was a glaze on the side that reminded me of a Thai chili sauce. The greens were smoky, not bitter, seasoned well, with small bits of ham. The mashed potatoes were fluffy and worked perfectly with the dish. Dessert was the bread pudding. Warm, sweet, not mushy. The pecan praline crumbles added a streusel-like crunch that really elevated it. Overall, the food was excellent and the experience felt special. The three-piece jazz band walking through the dining room added that extra layer of New Orleans magic. I would absolutely come back here and would recommend it without hesitation. read more

We heard this place was super popular and a must have! We booked a reservation online prior and thank goodness we did, the walk in lines for weekend dinners is super long. However because it was super busy, our food took a looooong time to come out! (About an hour for appetizers to arrive...) but the server was nice and kept checking in with us. The food was on the saltier side and nothing stood out like crazy for us.. It can be really noisy inside because the room is older and it echoes so if you're looking for a quiet dinner where you can hear each other, not quite the place! I'm giving Muriel's restaurant Sunday Jazz Brunch 4 stars instead of 5, primarily due to my husband's experience during his birthday celebration. When I made the reservation, we were told his dietary needs (heart-smart diet) could be accommodated. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The grits were prepared with cheese and salt, so he couldn't order them, and the only alternative was plain poached eggs and dry toast. We were surprised to be charged $20 for such a minimal meal--2 eggs and 2 small slices of toast--even though toast was actually listed on the menu for much less cost on. When we raise this point, they said they had to charge for some other sides because they didn't have a toast button. Additionally, although I had noted the occasion, his birthday wasn't acknowledged at all. That said, my own experience was excellent. The Sunday jazz brunch was perfect. We had requested to sit near the band and were seated right in front, which made the atmosphere truly special. My Bananas Foster French toast was indulgent and delicious, and the bacon was cooked to a perfectly crisp, balanced texture. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting, the food, and the music. The restaurant is absolutely lovely, and I would gladly return--just with the hope that future accommodations are more thoughtfully handled. read more

Upon arrival, I immediately made plans to come for dinner. I arrived a bit early, so I went to the bar and met some very interesting folks. Great drinks and great atmosphere while waiting for the restaurant to open for seating. I got a wonderful window seat again. I had two waitresses. Both were wonderful. We were visiting New Orleans on vacation end of April, and I had done some research a couple months out to find a nice fancy style restaurant for us to go to in the French Quarter during our trip. Muriel's came up on Yelp with rave reviews, so I went ahead and made reservations for 2 people on April 26th, 2025 at 7:00pm. This restaurant is located in the quarter, and kinda tucked in the back area. It looked very nice and a little small from the outside entrance, but once you walk in, you can see how it expands in all directions making it quite large in size! It was busy. and I mean BUSY. If you are planning to make a stop here on your trip, ESPECIALLY on a weekend, I highly recommend booking reservations far in advance. We just happened to be in New Orleans during Jazz Fest, so that probably contributed to the high foot traffic in town. After we checked in, we waited about 10min. as they were having issues with seating another party. Once seated, we were greeted by our server who was lovely! she took our drink orders and went about her way. Looking around the restaurant, it was REALLY well decorated. Some walls looked like they were original bricks.. where other walls looked like the bricks were painted on. Given the length of time this spot has been around, I'm not too surprised! I don't think I saw any area of the wall with no decoration... and all of the decor looked to be historical or historical inspired (which I LOVE). Lets just say our eyes were never bored lol! The servers brought bread and butter to our table, but they only gave us 2 small slices... and didnt refill or ask if we'd like it refilled for the duration of our stay. This was my first time having seafood gumbo, and this can totally just be us... since I have nothing to compare it to... but the taste had a burnt taste to it. Kind of like when you accidently char garlic and leave it in the dish, that taste just lingers. SO.. sadly we didnt really like the gumbo, which made us sad. My boyfriend ordered shrimp and grits and he LOVED it! I tried some too.... and I agree with him. NOW the pork chop, MY GOODNESS. I mean just look at the picture of it!! it was the thickest pork chop i've EVER had, along with the most juicy! I have NEVER had collard greens.. and let me just say. IM A BELIEVER. It complimented the pork chop unbelievably well. After we devoured these courses, the bread pudding and creme brulee came- and that too, was devine. The ONLY bad thing I have to say about this spot was the waiting. We LOVED our server, but I could tell they were all overwhelmed with tables.. and it showed. We felt like we had to create a running list of questions or requests in our head before she came because we didnt know the next time we'd see her. Totally not her fault, because we saw her working her butt off... this was solely on the restaurant management for understaffing. Other than that, we enjoyed our food, and prices were VERY cheap for being on the fancier side of dining. I highly recommend this spot! What an experience!! The food was delicious. I had the blackened redfish and my gf had the steak. Both were flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. After dinner we were handed a paper with the history of the restaurant. We also got to visit upstairs where the seance room is located. What a fun experience!! read more

Muriel's it's a fun and atmospheric place to hold any kind of event: birthday parties, anniversary, or just a fun night out. They have a wide drink selection that will match your favorite flavors. The service is wonderful, and our server was super friendly. While my dish was spectacular (I had the half chicken), I was also able to taste the shrimp and grits. Sadly, it was not my favorite flavor, compared to other shrimp and grits that I've had in the past. read more

Easily one of the best meals we've had worldwide. Wife had the pecan crusted drum, which is a firm white fish similar to redfish, I had the shrimp and grits. We did the $56 3 course prix fixe. Best option for the yummy food being served. Best most attended service we've had. How can you go wrong with a place that has been around for 200 years? Gotta go up to the seance rooms upstairs. We came here for a final group meal with the entire bachelorette party and it did not disappoint. We had to separate our table into groups of two in order to be able to accomodate, but fortunately, our tables were still pretty close, so it wasn't bad. Since we were here for dinner, they offered us a pre fixed menu or an a la carte. Most of us opted for the pre fixed menu. I got the pork chop menu which was amazing. Some of my other friends got the fish -- there was a drum fish and a redfish option and they were both tasty. What was the best part about this place was that it was right in the heart of Jackson Square, which was quite convenient for us. We also had an amazing server. Huge shoutout to Joel, who was entertaining and made sure our food came out in a timely manner. He told us about some ghost stories about this place which was cool and allowed us to go upstairs to the Séance Lounge, which was even more unique. Highly recommend coming here if you're headed to NOLA. read more
