Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, lots of charm, history and character, attentive wait staff. Not super expensive, great value. Recommend.
Made reservations for a special dinner for my mom. Immediately greeted when we walked in and seated promptly. The ambiance was beautiful and very classy. The lights were dim and the restaurant was lit with lots of candles. The waitress was super kind and very knowledgeable. I don't usually like pork chops but she raved about it and highly recommended it so I tried it and she was right. My meal was delicious. The drinks were strong and we had an overall good time.
We did the 3 course menu and chose the carbonara, shrimp & grits, and the chocolate dessert. It was all phenomenal!!! The Carbonara was unexpectedly delicious, the shrimp & grits were the star of the show and the chocolate desert was chefs kiss. The cocktail (bees knees) was just okay. I also tried my friend's gumbo and didn't love it. Great ambience! I will 100% be back!
The service was great! My girlfriends and I had the 3-course meal, which included an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert for $56. The restaurant was filled with family and friends. The ambiance was perfect for an early evening. We were able to go upstairs after dinner, and it was definitely worth it! Really nice deck views, as well as rooms with historic seating.
We came to this restaurant 2 nights back to back for their amazing shrimp and grits. Our server, Charley, recommended adding crab meat with it and it was delicious. Charley provided us great service. June 2026: STILL a must stop for me and delicious as ever. The shrimp crepes might be one of the best dishes in the square. We stopped in during restaurant week and it was perfect. The half chicken was wonderful and I finally got some bread pudding and wow is it delicious. Update Sept 2023: Was able to stop in again on our most recent trip for lunch. Our server great and the food was delicious! LOVED the shrimp and goat cheese crepe! The pecan crusted drum was also delicious. The prix fixe menu was well priced and all great options. Good food and friendly service. Great location next to Jackson square. Get the risotto balls!!
This location was a nice little walk from our hotel and a little gem to eat. My husband had the 3-course meal with the pasta carbonara as the appetizer (it was very good) the pork chop for the main dish (he enjoyed it) and creme Brulé for dessert (very good). I had the filet - cooked perfectly with the demi-glace. My son had the 1/2 chicken - we all left feeling very satisfied with a lovely dinner. Oh also had the chocolate praline dessert - it was fantastic!. The ambiance is classy, but I would recommend a reservation
Came for Sunday jazz brunch and made a reservation. Me and my mom love jazz so this was a fun way to eat and hear some music. I heard about the history of Muriel's on a ghost tour a couple of months ago so I was super excited to dine here. The jazz musicians come around to play music which is nice to get a closer view and even request songs. The first waiter who came over was very kind and he was super attentive. It got a bit busy so half way through right after we ordered our drinks, we got a new waitress. She was not very attentive and rarely checked on us which took away from the experience. We got the gumbo for an appetizer and it was pretty good. One of the better ones in the city and certainly the French quarter. We got the blackened catfish and the shrimp and goat cheese crepes. Both were solid, nice flavor but a bit cold. We thought it took awhile for our food to come out and came to the assumption it had been ready but since our waitress was inattentive it probably sat there. Now the jazz...amazing! We really enjoyed that. The restaurant is beautiful inside as well. Overall I think it's a good place to try once and that's kind of it. The food was okay but I wasn't wowed. The entrees are also quite pricey for what you get. We ate at other places and the quality and portion was better.
My daughter was adamant about eating here after seeing it recommended on her tiktok feed for can't miss NOLA Spots. I made a rezzy on OT and we were seated right away. All of our food tasted great and the only issue was when my pork chop came slathered with the apple jelly sauce despite me asking for it on the side. I sent it back and was eventually given a fresh one without the sauce. The waitress apologized which was appreciated but I thought perhaps because of the cost point and status of the restaurant, they might offer a discount or a dessert to make up for the inconvenience of having to wait for my entree. My daughter had hoped to go upstairs to see a certain room that is supposedly haunted in the restaurant but they had private parties so the upstairs was closed off to the public. Maybe next time.
A very eclectic and cozy interior with several different eating areas. It felt very New Orleans- loved it. We were greeted by hostess with a smile. The bread basket was delicious. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and their drinks. They offer a 3 course meal option if you prefer. The shrimp and goat cheese crepes were quite different but light and flavorful. The shrimp and grits had a tad bit of sweetness, not too much and not too heavy- which made for a nice dish. The bread pudding was quite yummy- everyone was boasting about how good it was. A unique and tasty experience. The restaurant was packed so I suggest you make a reservation!!

Had a reservation for right when they begin their Sunday jazz brunch. It went downhill from the moment I checked in. I ordered the brunch menu special which comes with an appetizer, main, and a dessert. Gumbo (1/5) -- very bitter, occasional bits of inedible pieces too tough to swallow safely Eggs benedict over shrimp cakes with potato brabant (2/5) -- the shrimp cakes were mostly filler, each containing maybe one whole shrimp if you get lucky and the mushy texture of them combined with the hollandaise made me so nauseous as they resembled baby food. Asparagus was oversalted while the potatoes had no salt and lost their crispiness within 10 minutes. The only saving grace for this course was their hot sauce, arguably the highlight of the entire meal Bread pudding (2/5) -- had the highest hopes since this is raved about, but it was a pile of mush, lacking any texture whatsoever, sat in the most clawingly sweet sauce. The candied pecans served alongside were quite chewy instead of crisp. Managed to eat the top half only because it wasn't doused in sauce and had a nice crust A huge shout out to my waiters Alice and Marin for their tentativeness. They were on top of things, refilling my water without me having to ask and consistently checking in. On the flip side, the hostess with the short curly hair and blush blindness is quite possibly the rudest I have ever encountered. When I checked in, I did not receive a smile let alone a single glance. She asked me for my name and instead ordered someone else to take me to my table. On my way out, she failed to say goodbye to me and others even though she had nothing to do but sit at the front. Jazz 5/5 -- I came mostly for this experience and loved it. The group played me a song of my choice and played around the room for about 30 minutes before going to other dining areas. Unfortunately, the jazz and wait staff did not make up for the food. If I am ever back in New Orleans, I will steer clear of this place.
Visiting Jackson Square, we realized it was 4 o'clock and that means happy hour ( its 5 o'clock somewhere) We headed right in, got a drink at the bar then headed upstairs to the balcony. The view was outstanding and great for people watching. Also got the best view of the famous iron railing across the street. Service was quick and friendly and prices fair. I'm putting this on my "must do" list for every trip to NOLA! Try it...you can thank me later.
What an absolute amazing dinner we had! My family and k came in from Houston and extended family from Los Angeles. And boy we were not disappointed! Each person got a different dish to experience all of them from the 3 course menu. The shrimp and goat cheese crepes along with the Pork Chops were a hit across the table. The service was fantastic and they took care of all our needs and checked on us regularly. The inside has a cozy home feel that just highlights the experience even more. Take me back to Muriel's or some delicious comfort food. Steak, bread pudding, turtle soup, crème brûlée, blacked redfish, or whatever you pick you won't be disappointed. We went for a special occasion and made reservations in advance, which I highly recommend. The atmosphere is great great and takes you back in time and the level of service is wonderful! So, I was in NOLA for work last summer and managed to get to this historic location before I left town. It was kind of on my trip's bucket list since this place is so historic and a cultural icon to the city. I've passed by it multiple times while walking through Lafayette Park and have heard the ghostly stories on a few walking tours. I've also heard they give a pretty authentic food experience so of course I had to step in at least once and try it out! Walking through the doors, you can just feel the history. Every nook and cranny is covered in artwork and brickwork. The building is pretty neat to take a walk through, many neat little places to explore (like an indoor-ish courtyard on the way to the bathrooms, very neat). I tried the full NOLA experience with a sazerac cocktail, classic shrimp and grits and bread pudding to finish it all off. Everything was pretty good. Not my favorite shrimp and grits (I rather have a creamier sauce) but it was still cooked perfectly and tasty. The bread pudding and the cocktail were very good. Service was top notch. You know they only hire top talent because no one was slaking off or taking it easy. Full service meant full service. There was always someone to fill your glass, take a plate and check on your table. Prices were on the higher side but this place is a fancy location and the service is top notch so I didn't feel like I was getting fleeced. Great date night or celebration spot for sure. If you are looking for a well renowned establishment that offers a great experience in the heart of New Orleans, this place would fit the bill. read more
This is a very neat restaurant. Presentation was beautiful, however I was disappointed with the taste of some of our food, especially with how much it cost. I didn't like the gumbo too much. With that said, the goat cheese crepes were AMAZING! I just wish there was more of them! The pork chops were HUGE! The drinks were yummy and strong! The bread pudding was super yummy too! We loved reading a bit about the history and the ghost that resides there right on the menu! It's a good story followed up by some amazing steak and drinks! Found this restaurant based on the Chase credit and was glad they had it there, this place was great! On the corner lot of Jackson Square, this places welcomes you with friendly dapper staff along with a beautifully aesthetic inside. There is a lot of culture popping in here with a lot of artwork around. The menu consists of some great crafted cocktails and a refined menu. They have both a prix fixe menu as well as à la carte. Everything was great, but the sweet potato soup was definitely the standout of all the dishes that we got. Overall, would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area and want a great experience! read more

Went to Muriel's on our first night in Nola and it did not disappoint. Extremely reasonable wine list and really friendly and polished servers. It's also one of the best deals in town. For $55 you get 3 impossible to choose courses. I started with the goat cheese crepes which were delectable. Followed with one of the best pork chops I've ever had. So good! Shrimp and grits were also terrific. Dessert was chocolate pecan pie which I couldn't stop myself from finishing. We will definitely return! read more

We started out with Muriel's for dinner for the first night of our 2nd annual NOLA foodie trip with one of our favorite food and fun loving couples. We were very excited for our dinner.....but the experience fell short a little bit. There were numerous delays between our seating, water service, drink orders, food orders. The process was pretty frustrating although the staff seemed to be working very hard and seemed to be pretty frustrated too. I think there might have been a large party in another part of the restaurant that might have been occupying the wait staff. All of the food was pretty good but not spectacular. When you only have two to three evenings in a food centered city and your big meal is dinner; you cannot afford a mediocre experience. read more

I have always been a fan of Muriel's as a previous local! The staff was welcoming, courteous, and attentive. We requested a spot away from the windows in our reservation details (as sometimes tours stop outside to look inside- something to mind if you don't fancy being the center of attention), which they were able to accommodate. For the appetizers, we shared the scallops and I had the spinach and apple salad, along with the warm bread. While I did not drink any wine this evening, I was amazed at the delicious lemonade mocktail on the menu instead- SUPER fresh! I had the duck as my entree and to be honest, the star of the show was the potatoes and vegetables that came with it! The duck wasn't disappointing by any means- I mean look at it! What a hearty portion! We were able to be convinced for some dessert and got the crème brûlée which was delicious as well. No visit to Muriel's is complete without exploring the seance room and taking in the atmosphere. I love looking at all the antiques. Consider making your reservation later in the night to take in the ghostly ambience for your special occasion without it being too busy! Always happy to support this local gem. We lucked out and were able to walk in without a reservation on a Tuesday night around 5:30PM with a group of 8. It never hurts to try, and this time it paid off. The atmosphere is historic and the enclosed courtyard near our table was lovely. I had a classic Pimm's Cup cocktail which was refreshing. I had the shrimp and grits for my entree which was amazing. The shrimp were fresh, sweet, and perfectly cooked. The grits were rich and delicious. Service was excellent and our server was able to answer questions about menu items. They are able to accommodate allergies as well and explicitly ask if anyone at the table has allergies which is really helpful. So happy we were able to enjoy a dinner here. read more

The BEST shrimp and grits I have ever had! Friends had recommended we go to Muriel's and it was my favorite place I ate in NOLA. Reservations were easy to make and our table was ready when we arrived. The staff was friendly and service was impeccable. We also went during thier Jazz brunch and the Jazz trio was fantastic. This place was phenomenal. I had the duck hash. It was outta this world. Our waitress was great and we had a wonderful brunch. After brunch we went up stairs where they had a cool balcony that looked out on Jackson square. The place is supposedly haunted. read more
I had always heard that New Orleans had amazing food but my first night was not impressive- guess we tried that wrong restaurant as tonight we ended up here and it was fantastic! I had the best Shrimp and Grits of my life! I rarely eat a whole entree but I ate all of this - it was fantastic, full of flavor and one of the most memorable dishes of my life! Hands down the best shrimp and grits I've had in the French quarter , and I tried them all. From Brennans , Commanders Palace to hole in the wall places like cafe Amelia, Coops, Vampire cafe, Negril , Fives .. just the best food was here, with close runner up Coops! My son and I made advanced online reservations for a weekday dinner at 5:30 pm. We picked Muriel's because they offered the 4-course Reveillon 2025 exclusive menu, only available for 23 days in December. We were seated immediately at a low-top table in one of the lower dining rooms. I noticed they did not have table linens, and the silverware was rolled rather than set. We had alternating servers who were professional but not personable. All four courses were exquisite, from the turtle soup to the lamb. Unfortunately, the enjoyment was spoiled by a large party near us celebrating a birthday. They were loud and obnoxious, acting like they were at a sports bar on bourbon, not at an upscale restaurant that required collared shirts and cost $100+ a person. My son mentioned it to one of the managers, and he just apologized and nothing else. I would have appreciated it if he had spoken with the table or moved us to a quieter part of the restaurant. They did not miss on the food. It was excellent. They missed the experience, which would cause me not to return. Please do not portray yourself as refined and upscale, and then back it up. read more
This place was amazing!! They have live jazz players from 11 am to 2pm on Sundays. Every dish we ordered was reasonably priced and very very tasty! I enjoyed the gumbo, the blackened Mississippi fish, shrimp and goat cheese crepe and a wedge salad with blue cheese. The hosts and servers were so prompt and kind. The decor is so rustic - they had got the place ready for the holiday season. Go enjoy the festive season with some awesome food! read more

Yum yum yum! Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and left with our hearts full and stomach's even fuller haha! The start was their house bread with the most delicious butter. Such a good prelude to an incredible meal. We ordered the shrimps and grits and the server recommended we try the pecan crusted drum. Both were such standouts! Shrimp and grits is a such a signature dish, and relishing every bite was such fun. The pecan crusted drum wowed coz the pecan flavor never got monotonous or boring. Each bite was wonderful. The crème brûlée was silky, classic and perfect. No notes. Beautiful ambiance, excellent service, and food that hits all the right notes. Muriel's is definitely a must-visit in the French Quarter. read more
If I could give 6 stars I would! Came for Saturday brunch with two friends and was wowed. No wait to be seated for our reservation, super elegant ambiance and amazing service. Started brunch with fried green tomatoes, served with a delicious sauce. I had the shrimp and grits for an entree, and my friends had the croque Madame (croque monsieur with an egg on it) and the duck hash. All were phenomenal! Ended with a crème brûlée. What is dress code for Muriel's? Shorts allowed for 5:30 dinner?
When we visited, we saw guests that very very dressed up as well as those in shorts and a nice shirt. It's a very touristy type restaurant, so I think they will take just about any outfit that comes off the street to be honest.
Do they do live music and gospel brunch on Sundays?
They have a Jazz Brunch on Sundays.
Can my husband and I split the three course meal, just want to be sure there are no restrictions?
I'd call and ask. We split the dessert and salad without an issue. They even gave us a second plate to split the salad.
Where is the best place to park?
