Our server was so sweet and made recommendations. The burger was delicious and the fries were hot and crispy. One of our friends had the shrimp Poboy, which they said was delicious. Red beans and rice and the gumbo were also favorites. But do not forget to save room for dessert. The chocolate mousse pie was so delicious, that I went back for a second piece the next night. Stopped into Daisy Dukes Creole Kitchen around 9:40pm looking for something savory after a couple bar stops, and we're so glad we did. We were greeted by a lovely lady at the door who quickly seated us in a cozy booth. Our server, a young man from Ghana, was exceptional. He was incredibly personable and took the time to give us some personal recommendations from the menu, which we really appreciated. Based on his suggestion, we decided to share a bowl of seafood gumbo. When it came out, you could literally see the steam rising from the bowl and our mouths instantly started to water. The gumbo was absolutely incredible--rich, flavorful, and easily the best we've had in a while. It was the perfect late-night bite, and the service made the experience even better. Let's level set: The French quarter is a slaughterhouse of humanity. It's also rife with overpriced and overcrowded tourist traps. So when we walked into Daisy Dukes Express and saw that there were only a couple parties and the menu prices for items were double or higher than average, we thought we made a mistake. Admittedly part of it was that it was removed from Bourbon St. But our eyes did not deceive us when we looked at the pictures of food before choosing this place. We had red beans and rice, gumbo, and etouffee at 6 different places and this by far was the best. So good in fact, that we revisited to get a to-go order before leaving for the airport as a last meal. Temperature is overlooked a lot when it comes to food reviews and everything came out piping hot. Each of the dishes had a deep, rich flavor that tastes like someone in your family made it with love. It's been a long time since I've experienced food this fulfilling; the reason we call some dishes soul food. We arrived at our hotel late and wanted a place close so we asked the lobby attendant where he would eat and he said hands-down Daisy Dukes. It was almost directly across from the hotel and many of the tables were filled, which is always a good sign to me. It had a large menu so it was hard for me to decide knowing I didn't want too much because dinner would arrive soon. We ordered two menu items to share, the crab cakes with fried green tomatoes and a cup of veggie red beans and rice. Both came out very hot and the taste was delicious. The outside presence was not great but the inside taste and feel good was on point. Our waiter was very attentive, keeping our drinks filled and checking on us. Stopped in for lunch before our city tour. A quick snack turned out to be a huge meal. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries, i can only do almost half. The burger was huge and delicious. The fries were season with a good flavor, but very salty for me. My guy ordered the pork chop which was also very tasty. I had an ice tea which guess has mo refills, but ok water it is. We were craving a real taste of Southern classics, and Yelp led us here. It was poppin' during the parade but we were seated within a few minutes and served with water. I ordered the crawfish ettoufe since I had it the day before and fell in love with it. Safe to say, I really liked the one here as well. You could really taste the crawfish and the portion was so generous; Not to forget, the biscuit was delicious with butter. My friends opted for the New Orleans sampler and got a taste of everything. It was my first time trying red beans and rice, and I actually quite liked it. Gumbolaya wasn't my cup of tea, nor is gumbo itself, but smelled good nonetheless! Out of all the options in New Orleans for some good creole food I finally decided to give daisy dukes a try. I must say daisy dukes didn't disappoint. Their red beans and catfish were so yummy and made me felt so welcomed to be in New Orleans for the food. Customer service was on point. I was greeted immediately when walked in. While we were able to be seated quickly, our not super complicated breakfast order for 4 ppl took over 50 mins to come out (waffle, pancakes, breakfast sandwich) By the time the food came, it was ice cold, and one of our orders had been given to another table, so it had to be remade. Solid 3.5 star joint. Staff are super chill and the vibe is slightly dive bar...my kind of place. As it was close to our hotel, thought we would stop in one night for dinner. One of the football games was on so it was a good spot to sit and watch. Notes: Wings came recommended, and these were probably the best out of our entire order. If you're looking for some straightforward eats, I'd get some of these. My trio - gumbo, etouffee, red rice and beans...was just so so. Flavors were hit or miss. Reminded me of the Tube Steak radio show on KFSR in Fresno. My waitress was quick to and helpful. Went double entree with the Jambalaya (extra paprika) and a shrimp po boy. Jambalayas exactly what I was looking for in Nola! Spicy, rice perfect, lots of sausage and chicken. Magnificent. The bread on the Po Boy felt almost grilled to a crunch, but soft on the inside with a little sweet taste. Perfect match for the shrimp that I doused in the house hot sauce. BANGIN! On Fat Tuesday as the parade was slowly making its way up Canal Street we decided to go eat. It was a chilly day for Mardi Gras, so why not get some comfort food before we head back to the festivities? There was a wait mostly due to this location being one of the smaller ones and on a very busy, yet closed off street. We put our name on the list and patently waited outside. After about 30 minutes we finally were seated. Our hostess was so poised and pleasant. We talked about the Lundi Gras Festival (she missed it). Our server was so cool too. He suggested the 2-for-1 mimosas to start. Lots of people came in to order to go drinks from the bar to get back to the parade. The atmosphere was like a diner or cafe with several people at tables, the bar, waiting for a seat and food coming & going. It was Mardi Gras, birthday parties, shots, families and everyone ready for a good time in NOLA! We ordered the breakfast dishes - seafood omelette with grits and a biscuit. He ordered a country breakfast with ham, fried egg, cheese grits and a biscuit. We couldn't leave without the crawfish étouffée though. So warm, just enough spices and plenty of crawfish.
