This restaurant is obviously a local favorite. There were a ton of people waiting outside and our party of 5 probably waited...45 mins for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Not too bad. The neighbors have signs on their fences saying " we love Elizabeth's too but please don't park here". There was a small parking lot area available across the street. We tried a bunch of different dishes. Pecan waffles, crabby eggs, shrimp and grits, avocado toast, country breakfast, biscuits, praline bacon..it was all delicious. I knocked a star off because our service wasn't that great. She was a really nice and personable person but three of us ordered coffee and she only brought one. I ordered a diet coke and never got it. We ordered an extra egg on the toast and didnt get it. We had to grab hot sauce from another table. My eggs were definitely undercooked. Off the beaten path and in the Bywater area down right at the river you'll find this quirky little place that has a great reputation in New Orleans Elizabeth's. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong thing which was supposed to be boudin balls topped with a poached egg and crawfish étouffée. Unfortunately the Boudin balls were actually patties and they weren't very good. The Crawfish was not very good at all and the poached eggs were way over poached not runny at all. This place really deserves a solid 3.85. As a fan of the Bywater neighborhood, I wanted to make sure to get bfast/lunch in the area. Back again for a wonderful breakfast the way staff here is Super very attentive the menus almost the same every time they have about one waffle special I got something new on the menu. You can call the limited, which is just eggs, potatoes and toast, my wife, that avocado toast they were a little light on the avocado but again it was a great breakfast. Thanks. I've only been here once for lunch upstairs and once for dinner downstairs. My first visit was years ago just a few years after they initially opened. I specifically planned this visit with with the decided intent of sampling their "infamous" Elizabeth's Dream Burger, that usually comes topped with lots praline bacon (I don't eat pork bacon so I ordered it without it). My burger came and it was a very large thing and also had plenty of praline bacon on it even though I had specifically requested it without it. I was able to easily remove the offending bacon and fed it to my hungry dining companion who enjoyed it thoroughly. My burger, on the other hand, I found to more than adequate on the size scale but definitely lacked in the flavor scale. It was such a disappointing experience to have my burger dream shattered I've never went back for over a decade. So over the years I did keep hearing good things about their brunch. So eventually decided to make a return visit and sample the burger again as I assumed there would have been some changes. That assumption actually turned out to be accurate and I enjoyed dining at their upstairs bar, which has a great ambiance, and got to have a delicious and juicy burger. Unfortunately the trend of them not doing a good job of following requests continued a I had ordered my burger with no mayo and it was DROWNED in mayo... So Elizabeth's does make some good food but they have a history with me of failing to follow my ordering requests. I think i found this spot on YouTube when I was trying to look for places during our trip. They raved about the breakfast burrito and honestly? That was probably my least favorite thing. This place is amazing! A friend who's a local recommended it to us and I couldn't rave about it enough. While we had the hardest time deciding what to order, my husband got the shrimp and grits and said it was the best he's had. Stopped by Elizabeth's for breakfast while visiting NOLA for my birthday. The restaurant is tucked away in an area that feels industrial and residential and we passed a really cool art gallery/lot on our drive over. The atmosphere is welcoming and rich with colors. I noticed that most of the art on the walls came from the gallery down the street which was awesome! For brunch we started with the praline bacon and cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. The bacon was perfectly crisp and sweetened and the gumbo was good and really warmed up the body. For mains we ordered the Campfire Steak and Eggs and the Bayou Breakfast. The steak was cold-smoked (a first for me!) and was extremely well cooked medium temp. However the steak was just a little over salted for my taste. I will always be ordering this when I come here. *Banana Foster French toast ($9 for half order) was also yum! Exactly what you crave when you order this, a sweet soft French toast. Highly recommend this to order on the side of your main dishes. By the way, their half order is huge, so I would not commit to a full order if you're not sharing with others! *Shrimp and Grits ($17) was one of the specials of the day. This was different than what you normally get at other places. It was made with beef broth and tallow, and it was a bit soupier than what I like. I didn't personally love this, but it wasn't bad at all. *Basic Breakfast ($10) was just fine and what you'd expect. We got two eggs, hash browns, a biscuit, but the items are interchangeable (replace biscuit with toast, replace hash browns with grits, etc.) If you're in a mood for a no-frills breakfast, this is for you. New Orleans, and on the hunt for work in the movie business, having finally gotten fed up with my dead-end movie "career" in Central Florida and I was already feeling homesick. So my mom came to visit. Of course she wanted brunch, as most women do, and since her name is Mary, bloody Mary was on her mind. A quick Internet search provided some 5 star yelp reviewed restaurant named Elizabeth's. Sauntering in, we were greeted by two young shouting bohemian hostesses, and a smattering of glamorous servers balancing god knows what on tattooed forearms full of plates gliding through a bustling restaurant like it was a crowded roller skating rink. This atmosphere shook my mind of missing home. I know now, having traveled quite a bit, that every hip town has a brunch/breakfast spot that hires hot young punk rock/rockabilly waitresses to serve you food network worthy greasy spoon style food, but back then I didn't know anything about anything. I was just a ball of hormones in a sea of pheromones on a repentful Sunday morning. So of course I was smitten, (as I'm sure were most of the patrons back then). Having nearly forgotten my mother was present, whose motherly intuition perceived my newfound obsession with these lovely women, decided after her 2nd strong Bloody Mary, to give our waitress my number. The embarrassment meter knows no limits when a mother is trying to persuade a young woman to take romantic interest in her shy mumbling blushing son. It's as if she's arguing with the school principal that her boy is a straight A student, when all he really does is smoke, skip school, and chase women. I think our servers name was Sarah or Katherine or some victorian name like that. She wore wine colored combat style boots with a billowy vintage polka-dotted 1990s grunge style dress, adorned with mascara and ruby red lipstick that would make Cleopatra jealous, and it was all topped with big teased messy almost wig-like hair that might of been brown or blonde or crimson red. It was all so overwhelming, the stylish gorgeous looking waitresses were as plentiful as the praline bacon back then. Sarah or Katherine's appearance suggested she casually rolled out of bed looking like that, but to the skilled eye of my moms 30 year career as a hair dresser, she knew it took hours to perfect that éclat. I wondered what they must be getting paid to support such curated flair, or if there was a style budget for their "uniforms". These waitresses, cut right out of an MTV Daria cartoon, were the center of attention to an otherwise blur of Dr. Bob folk art wallpaper capped smothered and topped with fried green tomato & eggs benedict portions big enough for leftovers. I was so distracted and tongue tied I accidentally ordered rabbit for breakfast. Which was phenomenal. Went home stuffed, and in heaven. Sarah or Katherine, never called me. Surprisingly. But after that day I had a whole new love for this city, its colorful people, comfort food, and its culture. It's been over a decade now since that ephiphinal Sunday morning, but I think about those good old days of our youth every time I pass under that pink flying pig sign. The landscape over there has changed quite a bit with sky rise apartments cropping up everywhere. I'm not even sure if the restaurant is still open. I never see a line outside these days but I ought to stop in there again soon and see if the gals who work there now can compete with the A team of 2015. After other brunch plans ran into some unexpected twists, we ended up here, and despite being a weekend, they were able to accommodate us in a reasonable time!
