Oxtail Special with greens, sweet potatoes, dirty rice and a roll
Tabitha C.

Wanda greeted us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. Her friendly energy made the experience memorable. The Chicken Sandwich delivered on all fronts. The portion size was huge. The breading achieved perfect crispiness while keeping the meat juicy inside. We ordered the spicy but felt we could handle more heat. The Adobo Cracklins stole the show. Each bite had a satisfying crunch paired with bold adobo seasoning that kept us reaching for more. We took home the oxtail special, which came with greens, sweet potatoes, dirty rice and a roll. The oxtail had a deep, savory flavor. The greens were pure deliciousness. The sweet potatoes hit the right notes. The dirty rice had layers of flavor that made us want seconds. Southerns combines great food with warm hospitality. Wanda's service and the kitchen's execution make this spot worth your visit.

I got my first taste of Southerns on their food truck for lunch one day and then again at FQFest this year and they never miss. Had to try the brick and mortar once my husband showed me their Instagram post and it was worth the trip to Metairie. The location was really cute: spacious and welcoming. The staff was friendly and was ready to recommend or explain any item. I got the Nice wings and maaaannn were they nice! The sweet chilli glaze and cranberries were a festive and delicious touch. Will definitely be back.

I was always thrilled when their food truck would park near my office building-and now we are lucky enough to enjoy an extended menu at their new brick and mortar location. My dining companion and I started with Boudin balls stuff with pepper jack cheese. Basic, but good. We had "the prince" sandwich at a heat level of spicy. Well seasoned, and the cooling kewpie mayonnaise did the trick. We also enjoyed a smash burger with cheddar cheese. Absolutely excellent. The fried onion strips were a great addition to the sandwich. The staff is friendly and their specials advertised on various social media look AMAZING. (Oxtail platter, anyone?!) Try the Phuket sauce.

We found this place on our way out of the airport (MSY) and were overwhelmed by how great the food was. It's a bit pricey for fast food, but blows everywhere else away in terms of quality. We splurged and, in addition to the chicken sandwiches, we got the pork belly bites too, and they were also excellent. The staff was very friendly and it was clear they really cared about making sure the experience was great. Only disappointment is that they don't have locations in the northeast and are limited only to the NOLA area.

Personally not for me or my bf but clearly from other reviews people really like it. A little too messy and overpriced for us (but also a good portion of that was tiny fountain drinks). Food was hot and service was good though.

Best. Louisiana. Chicken. Sandwich... EVER! I've heard about Southerns before when they were only doing their food truck, but this was the first time I went to their actual restaurant. To start off, service was excellent! The guy in the front was not only nice and friendly, but he was also very detailed and patient while explaining the menu since it was my first time there. From his recommendation, I got the Southerns Original Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($10.99), their Phuket Fries ($5.99), and a regular fountain drink ($2.95). The chicken inside the sandwich was HUGE! Not only that, but the spice flavor to it gave off a very southern/cajun flavor. The sauce on it had an aioli kick to it, which I really liked. The Phuket Fries were really good too. They weren't stingy with the amount of fries compared to other places, so I give them props for that. The sauce for the fries had a spicy aioli taste to it as well, which made it worth the price in my opinion. The inside was average looking, but was still clean and neat regardless. Overall, I'd definitely recommend trying out Southerns. Friendly vibes? Delicious chicken sandwiches? How can you pass on that?!

Fried Chicken sandwich, cracklins, and fries

Best chicken sandwich, hands down. Southerns stands out because they use a fried chicken thigh instead of a breast and it's a total game changer. The chicken is always juicy, perfectly seasoned, and fried to perfection. The portions are huge and I can never finish the sandwich and fries in one sitting, so it's easily two meals. The dipping sauces are a great bonus, and service has always been quick and friendly. If you're looking for the best chicken sandwich Southerns is it.

Consistent! This place always has perfectly fried chicken and chicken sandwiches. Their flavor profiles are great! They hit all the taste buds! The ambiance is clean and minimal (I enjoy this a lot!). Service is good as always! Keep it up, Southern's!

First: amazing experience. Service was so sweet and helpful. She helped me decide and recommended her favorite sauce, and it HIT (the Phucket y'all, the best out of em. There's lots of seating and it is very clean. I got the original, and the sandwich was massive, so worth the price. The spice level was less than I thought (I just got regular spicy) so I want to try the hotter level. But the chicken was so juicy and batter so flavorful. The slaw on it was fresh and tasty, and the fries shocked me at how good a fry could be! So delicious, crispy, and well seasoned. Didn't even need the sauce but the sauce elevated everything. 10/10 recommend. Stop going to that overrated plain chicken finger chain and spend about the same price on amazing southern chicken!

Phuket Fries, OG sandwich

Delicious crispy chicken dusted with spicy seasonings and complemented by a fresh slaw, Southern's proves to be well worth the hype. I ordered their OG chicken sandwich the other day, and I was pleasantly surprised by the spice level and heat. The well-seasoned fries and the Phuket sauce were also super tasty and delicious. That being said, one thing to note is that if you're coming here for the first time, you should probably order "one size up" on the spice level as my fiancé and I were content but not completely blown away with the amount of heat. Case in point, I ordered the "Spicy" heat level but I definitely could have handled the "Super Freaking Hot". I also wish that the sandwich came dripping with some kind of spicy sauce and that the chicken itself was seasoned and not just the batter. All in all though, this place has nice portion sizes, delicious chicken, and quality service plus a few weekly specials like gumbo or oxtails. I can't wait to try more things in the future and I'm excited that NOLA finally has a local version of the Nashville chicken sandwich!

Tried Southern's for the first time and it was delicious. I had this place on my list for a while and it didn't disappoint. I had the burger and it was flavorful and a nice portion. The Phuket fries were good. They had a seasoning to them that was tasty and not overwhelming. The sauce to accompany had a nice kick to it. My husband had the chicken sandwich which was enormous. He enjoyed his meal as well. It was definitely worth the price so I would go back when I have burger or chicken sandwich craving.

Plain chicken sandwich with mild spice level with phuket sauce and queso on the side with sweet heat sauce
Rebecca H.

This fried chicken sandwich was MASSIVE and so juicy The fries were perfectly crispy and the dipping sauces??? unreal. I got the Phuket sauce kind of like a garlic aioli and it was so good I dipped the fries AND put it on the sandwich. They've got different spice levels and flavors so you can really customize it, plus they also have burgers. On top of that, you get a ton of food + a drink for under $20. Customer service was top tier she even let me sample the sweet heat sauce and was seriously the sweetest. I already can't wait to go back

Nothing spectacular but decent food. The signage for the entry could be way better and the prices a little steep.

Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop is definitely a great stop if you are looking for great gumbo…read more The place has that dive atmosphere pretty much down pat. The service is decent, but the real star here is the food. I went with gumbo and boudin balls and both were very good. The only complaint that I can say is that they added a dollar onto my bill for using my credit card. I would definitely recommend here.

I went with the half oyster po-boy and gumbo combo. The sandwich turned out pretty well, with a good amount of fried oysters that were clearly cooked fresh rather than sitting for a while. Pretty good bread too. The gumbo was a disappointment though. I guess I've spent too much time on the bayou down through the years, because anytime a bowl of gumbo shows up without a scoop of potato salad in it I'm disappointed. Worse still, this gumbo was flavorless, bland and completely lacking of spice. Were it not for the dark color, I would have not been able to tell the difference between this and the sort of store-bought gumbo that comes from a can. The server kept an eye on me and my drink of choice, so props for that. Also, beware going to the restroom here, as the door doesn't seem to lock.

Lunch on a Monday with SIL. Arrived not long after they opened and it was already filling up…read more Seated immediately and drink order was taken ASAP. Ordered 1/2 doz chargrilled oysters and the meat pies. For some reason I did not realized the meat pies had ground beef in them; I remembered a different flavor profile. They were good but won't order them again; too many other choices. Chargrilled oysters, on the other hand, is now on my SIL's list of top fav foods. I usually eat mine raw, but these were not too salted and not overcooked. Good job, ACME! SIL ordered the 1/2 shrimp po boy, which was on her hit list of foods for the trip and I had the 1/2 hot sausage patty po boy. Both of us had the jambalaya, which was tasty but not overpowering. Her po boy was loaded with shrimp and I had her try my po boy, since she had never heard of the hot sausage. It was a winner with her as well! We had leftovers, of course. Things were hopping by the time we finished, and it was a bit to get our to go boxes, drink refills and check out, but we'd go back in a heartbeat.

They were a lot larger than the oysters I'm used to back in Maryland but the taste was similar. They were nice and fresh, a little gritty, but that comes with the territory sometimes. We also got the fried alligator and it was so much better than the fried alligator that we had at Mulate's. It's was fresh and crispy. The sauce that it came with was good too, but I'm always gonna go for the Louisiana hot sauce. We also both got a cup of seafood gumbo. It had the perfect dollop of rice in the middle. It was savory and full of flavor. For drinks I got the prickly pear mojito and my boyfriend got a margarita. We really enjoyed our lunch here.
