My wife and I have started to make Hobnobbers one of our regular spots to eat. She has her usual and I like to see what they are making for that day. I am starting to gain a lot more enjoyment trying the different specials as they truly put their heart and sole into their creative dish. Last night I had the Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and peas and it was great, not good, not good +, it was really great. Instead of the usual white gravy this was different and I am still not sure how to describe it. An Italian flair, a little spicey but the chicken was cooked really well, the peas and potatoes equally as good and I really, really enjoyed it. So this is a long standing community cafe that's been feeding folks for over 40 years. It's pretty popular and always draw a crowd. Every time I come here, there's always a full dining area. They're known for the gumbo, salads, po boys and down ole Southern flares on Cajun meals. Service is great, friendly and helpful. Went there for lunch for the first time with a friend. I tried their trout almandine with brabant potatoes for lunch - their special on Tuesdays. Wow. It was delicious! Well worth every calorie and cent! The salad was good, but nothing special. We ordered at the counter, and service was fairly quick. Not a dive but not upscale, just a little family place. Plenty of parking. Highly recommended and I hope to come back before too long. read more

So I ran across this local gem and how lucky was I. Good food and nice people at reasonable prices. Now that's tough to beat. My first visit I was lucky enough to meet both of the owners. How nice was that? I had the fried catfish and shrimp platter and the Friday seafood gumbo. The platter was very good but the gumbo was exceptional. I was craving spaghetti & meatballs for some reason. Maybe it was the 2 week food binge I had been on after not being in N.O. for 44 years. So I remembered seeing on this menu. What I got was a steaming plate of nice hot noodles 2 huge meatballs in a very nice sauce. It couldn't have been better. I was so surprised how you enjoyed the meatballs I stopped by a couple of days later and got a meatball po boy. Sorry, no picture. I ate it to fast. I only wish I was a local. read more

This place is ace. And to think I've passed it 1000x without giving it a second look. Gosh, what a mistake. Everything is homemade. Croutons, tomatoes, dressings, real imported Italian ingredients. Not an hour wait, no microwaved food, no gelato, and it's in a safe area, right by where I live. I could kick myself for not trying it sooner. The restaurant not only got every single item we ordered correct, but the quality and flavor of the dishes were outstanding. The portion size was very generous and the food tasted fresh. This is literally a hole in the wall, but when we arrived there were some gentlemen who guided us inside and we were seated pretty quick. The cleanliness of this place was not up to par. There were bugs flying around us the entire time. The home fries looked like lumpy mashed potatoes. The pancakes we're good. My friend ordered shrimp and grits that had so much oil, she had to soak it up with the bread and at that point she didn't even have the desire to eat it. My family ordered to go and tried here for the first time today. I got the boneless fried chicken and macaroni and cheese dinner. My chicken was very crispy, moist, and the flavor was good...nothing mind blowing but it hit the spot. The macaroni and cheese lacked salt and was a little watery. I wish it had more cheese, but once I added salt, it brought out more flavor. I think it was bc I received a portion that didn't have much cheese...everyone else had plenty cheese on theirs. I've been meaning to order from here for a while and I finally got the chance to today. The woman on the phone was fast and friendly. The food was just about ready by the time I got there. Cute dining area. Got back to work with my food (finally!) I didn't order anything super special because I wasn't super hungry. I got a small plain grilled chicken poboy so I could just have the grilled chicken and a side of mac and cheese. The chicken was good and the mac was even better. A side portion is actually a pretty large amount. I also couldn't resist getting a brownie when I saw them by the checkout counter. There is a reason that "hole in the wall" joints often have some of the best food in the area. There is a huge variety of options to choice from on the menu, most of which are common cajun dishes. The dining area is a little tight but the area is always very clean. There is a salad bar that is included with most dishes on the menu, along with a self serving soda machine. The staff is always very friendly and great at their jobs. If the majority of their menu was not slightly over priced, Hobnobber would be getting the full 5 stars. So my sister and I are searching for dinner so we stopped by this sweet little gem that's really ducked off! I had one of the best shrimp po boy ever! They use dat Good kinda old fashioned French bread! The shrimp were fried to perfection! My sister ordered a seafood platter and she's still talking about how delicious it was! She's crazy about their baked macaroni! I had a delicious brownie from the cooler and omg it was scrumptious! Hobnobber is close to my office, and the older male employees make a point to go here weekly. Possibly more than weekly. There really isn't a lot of variety around the 8000 block of Airline in Metairie. Hobnobber is somewhat close by on West Metairie Ave. Anyway, in the ~2 years that I've worked at my current job, I hadn't tried Hobnobber. I'm not really a seafood fan and their menu consists of a lot of seafood entrees. If you like seafood, this might be the place for you. I finally gave in and accompanied some co-workers last week. They recommended the Italian entrees, if I wasn't in the mood for seafood. I opted for the eggplant parmesan. While I didn't have high expectations, it was really quite good. I've had better, mind you, but for a quick and reasonably priced lunch, it was nice. Plus, it's a convenient location (for me). If you are in a hurry, you might want to call ahead and place an order to-go. It's a small space with limited seating, particularly at lunch. Also, if dining in, note that it's one of those places where you order at the counter, the server brings your food, and then you eat. They have a small, limited selection salad bar by the serve-yourself drink machine. Overall, I wouldn't make the trip here if I had more time for lunch. But, in a pinch, it's good homemade food at a good price. read more

I was craving red beans and rice this evening and have been to this location a few times for their po boys. I got it with smoked sausage and it came with a salad. The food was fantastic! A large plate of goodies and almost ate it all but also got a side order of fries with roast beef debris. Yum! What I liked the most had to be the owner who was very friendly. She already knew what some customers wanted, how they wanted it, and how to space out one customer's food who had their dinner there. Having an owner pay attention to details like that is awesome!
