The hot bar was just getting set for lunch and it looked so tempting I ended up with roast and potatoes for breakfasts (let's just call it brunch at this point). It's a no-nonsense place that for dining-in is one step above a food truck with some portable tables. Expect a solid plate of comfort food with satisfying portions. Dynamite tasting breakfast sandwiches! Service was very friendly, though not overly fast- but for good reason, they are making your sandwich to order. Asked for a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant. 4 slices of bacon and a good 2 eggs made this sandwich delicious. Also tried the meat pie and egg roll, because, why not? The meat pie had a great spice to it and was hot from a temperature standpoint even after a 20 minute walk back to the house. Egg roll tasted like an egg roll. Not much ambiance to the place, but there are several tables you can sit at, though everyone I saw was getting carry out. A constant stream of customers, though not crowded. read more

I had some time to kill in the neighborhood this morning, and someone recommended "the Caboose". I'm glad they did! This is a very simple little diner - order at the counter and have a nicely short wait. There are a few tables, so they can probably handle a decent crowd - very simple, comfortable dining area. I got their breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, and I'm going to proclaim that it was the best darn egg, cheese, sausage, biscuit sandwich I've had in a very long time. Simple and simply delicious. I wish I worked or lived closer to this place (or maybe it's good that I don't!) So that's it - they serve breakfast and lunch (not sure about dinner), and if I'm in the neighborhood long enough today, I may eat lunch here also. Very friendly gentlemen behind the counter. This is a small old neighborhood diner sandwiched between buildings and streets. In fact, there are entrances from 2 different streets. We ordered shrimp po-boys dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo. The bread was fresh and the shrimp were breaded and cooked perfectly. They don't skimp in the shrimp. There's some in every bite. Sides are separate, so we ordered fries. They also have hot plate lunches and that looked good as well. Was less than $30 for lunch for 2. It's local New Orleans if that's what you are looking for. I do wonder why it was named Leo's Caboose though. read more

I stumbled on this place because I'd visit the hospital across the street. It easily became my go-to during my visits. The red beans and rice, smothered pork chops, and gumbo are a hit! It was hard to deviate from those when visiting, so I can't speak for anything else, but all the food looks and smells good. Definitely try it out! read more

I get breakfast at least 3 times a week from here and the food is always hot and fresh the employees are always very friendly.

Small mom and pop restaurant. You order at the counter here, and the staff is wonderful. We got two of the Tuesday specials. I got the baked chicken with dirty rice, green beans and bread. This place is a hidden gem. I was next door running errands and happen to park right in front of Leo's. I decided to give this place and try and so happy I did! I ended up ordering the fried shrimp combo with fries and a drink. The fries were big-cut ones ! Loved the meal. There are specials everyday. As I waited for my order.. a lot of people that worked closed by came and got the special of the day. It happen to be a Thursday so I watched a couple of people come in for the cabbage and roasted pork. I'll need to come back and try that. read more

On a side street in the Touro area sits a little diner-ish restaurant with a get-in-line ordering system and a few tables set up to eat at. Remember in elementary school when you lined up in the cafeteria and pointed at what you wanted through the plexiglass? That's what happens at Leo's. They have whatever they made that day and you line up and order. Their peas were definitely canned the potatoes in a spicy brothy sauce were good (prob not veg broth). They usually have brownies or little pies from Tee Eva's- a plus! The fountain drinks come in huge styrofoam cups. The staff is friendly and so New Orleans. There is definitely a lunch rush from the hospital staff- one lady just got in line in front of me the other day in her scrubs and was mumbling something and i decided it was safer just to step back and let it happen. Leo's is tucked away in Uptown by the Vintage Kitchen, Prytania Bar, Touro Hospital, etc. It's your typical unassuming mom n pop diner for breakfast and lunch; but the food is amazing! We've had the roast beef poboy, roast pork and cabbage, lasagna, and the grilled shrimp on a couple separate visits. All the food has been delicious. The only crappy thing is the $0.75 charge for soda refills and they pre-fill your cup with ice (just dump out some of the ice before you fill up). Friendly service always! read more

This place is a hidden gem! Cheap, Hot, and really Good plate lunches. The smothered cabbage and pork roast are to die for as are the red beans and rice with breaded pork chops.
