Fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese, and a biscuit

I moved to New Orleans in August for law school and hot stuff instantly became my favorite casual restaurant. I probably go too often and spend too much money, but wouldn't change it for a thing. The staff are incredibly friendly, the food is delicious & fresh, the portions are perfect, and the price is completely reasonable. Posting various photos I have but the white bbq wing sauce may be my favorite wing sauce I've ever had. This is the only restaurant I willingly order meatloaf at and walk out not regretting my choice (but am very pleased with it). Couldn't say enough great things 10/10.

This is the kinda place that just feels right. You're a little tipsy and need something to soak it up, or maybe you and your friend Mary Jane are hanging out and suddenly craving something really good this place f***s (excuse my French). The plates are generous, the sides are phenom... It's casual, fun, and deeply satisfying. If you're looking for food that feels like both comfort and surprise, Hot Stuff delivers.

I had a good experience at hot stuff. The food was really good, and value was good. I liked the vibe too. Will say I left a bit hungry, but it was overall good. I went to hot stuff on a Thursday after work. There was a decent amount of neighborhood/street parking. The restaurant wasn't super busy when I went. I got the stewed chicken & black eyed peas. The food itself was really good. My stewed chicken was nice and flavorful. It was a little dry. Overall - fun experience and good flavor.

This is a cafeteria style dining experience with fried items made to order. Staff is friendly and welcoming. The cooks were working hard. Everything we tried was excellent! Meatloaf was covered with a yummy gravy. The mashed sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy were whipped smooth and had great flavor. The collard greens had bits of meat and were tender. The smoked wings with white sauce were smoky and had a nice pepper seasoning. The fried pork chop tasted just like I was back in Hawaii - seasoned perfectly and fried crispy without being dry. And the bananas foster pudding.??? Seriously, it was all delicious and I will be back again.

Stopped by for the first time to try the fried chicken everyone raves about and it did not disappoint! I was so hungry that I failed to take a photo of any food, only a picture of the vintage poster inside. For sides I had the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. Everything was so tasty. Service was friendly and they have a rewards program too! It's not cheap but fairly priced and the portions are good. And they have hand sanitizer by the condiments, which I really appreciate. Will be back to try more things!

Y'all. Like for reals, y'all. If you haven't tried here, who hurt you?! Why not? First off, it's a meat +3. That's not a requirement, it's a suggestion. You're going to walk in to the greatest service staff in the neighborhood. Always a welcoming smile, and great for a chat. Grab yourself a tray and work your way down the line, cafeteria style. Anyone who comes to visit gets treated with a visit here because it's great southern-style dishes that rotate on the daily. AND THEN, if that wasn't good enough, you can get some bonuses on the weekends - crawfish boils, and late night menu items like tenders and mozzarella sticks. Want a nice daiquiri, beer, or liquor with some mixer? They've got that covered too. It's a fantastic neighborhood joint that everyone should come visit. You'll never leave hungry or disappointed.

If you're into stick-to-your-ribs comfort cuisine with a blue plate special feel, please do yourself a favor a give Hot Stuff a try. The food was delicious, the ambiance was totally laid back, and the service was warm and friendly. I had the hamburger steak, mac and cheese, and a roll. It was kind of like being back in the 70's, but with people who had the culinary knowledge and experience of today if that makes sense. The hamburger steak and Mac and cheese were fantastic! My mom had the shepherds pie and it was a very unique version. It was an actual pie filled with the components of a traditional shepherds pie. Genius. She also partook of their bananas foster pudding. Get it. You're welcome. I'll be back for sure. Oh, and make a trip to the restroom whether you have to or not, and make sure you push the button.

Excellent comfort food that doesn't leave one feeling like it was too much. Delicious, amazing variety, swift and easy. Kind staff and ample seating make this a no brainer for lunch if you find yourself uptown near the universities.

If I had to choose my last meal, this would be a top contender. Everything was so delicious! Prices were reasonable. Staff were so kind. Ambiance is very casual, hole in the wall. A true comfort food. So happy we stumbled into this gem!

Good ole southern style food!! Reminded me of going to dinner at church on Wednesday nights with grandmother. Menu changes daily which I like - all the food tasted REALLY good. Green beans just how I like em, and the cheese grits got a little kick to em just like they should. I would imagine if I went earlier than later some of the food would be more fresh (it is kept warm until it runs out). I had the fried catfish, mac n cheese, green beans, cheese grits, hushpuppies, dinner roll, and bananas foster's pudding. I can't wait to come back and try more! Good friendly service as well. (Please know I ate some of the food before taking my pictures lol)

I'm not a fan of waiting in a line outside so we made sure to get there when they opened since it was a Saturday. No line and we were greeted when we walked in. I was bummed that they did have fried chicken or wings but perked up when I saw stewed chicken. It was just being pulled off the stove. I ordered the stewed chicken with rice, collard greens, white beans and hush puppies instead of the roll. OMG the flavor!! The stewed chicken was delicious and the meat was soooo tender it fell apart when barely touched. The collard greens, white beans, and hush puppies were super flavorful and tasty. The decor of the restaurant was fun and funky like Turkey and the Wolf and Molly's Rise and Shine. The service was great and they came to bus our table when we were getting up to leave. We will definitely be back and I hope to get a chance to try their fried chicken and their wings!

This place is so good I came back two weeks in a row. The building itself is smallish looks like it used to be a neighborhood convenient store or something. Staff is very nice and helpful letting you know how everything works and makes good recommendations. First time went with hamburger steak gravy and potatoes, green beans, and Mac and cheese. The burger was juicy, the gravy super flavorful, and the mash pillowy. Mac and cheese was super cheesy and creamy. You pretty much can't go wrong. Today I went with fried catfish, cheese grits, hearts of palm salad. The catfish was super crispy, but still soft inside. Cheese grits were great. Salad was very refreshing. I might even go back next week and see what else I can try.

I had seen some news about them at some point, I love chicken wings, and it looked good. It's take out only. Not much to see besides the menu and the pictures of Adam and some other dudes. You can see the kitchen, little shotgun style place. I asked some questions about the sauce heat levels and ordered what he equated to medium regular buffalo I think. The names are strange to me. Just say Buffalo!!! Ugh. The wings were flavored very well, I liked the sauce a lot. The fries had a nice seasoning on them as well. The packaging absolutely ruined the food. It was all soaked when I opened it. That really sucked. It was about a 15 minute ride. They packed it in a wax lined, fully sealed box, similar to an Asian food box. It simply steamed the food while I drove. Bad move guys. I could not even eat the fries, they were just mush. Wings had a slight crispness in some spots after I left them open for 20 mins or so to dehydrate. As I said, the sauce was great so I did eat the wings. The wings are probably really good I bet if they were not ruined by the packing. 3 stars for the flavor. '26 - 96

We were desperate to cool off. Their AC was so cool and necessary during the heat wave that we had just spent a couple hours walking through. 2. This place served best rum punch I've ever had. Oh my goodness. Turning down a second one was hard!! 3. I've never had a server who appeared as invested in our order as our guy. I developed an old lady crush on this sweet man! We told him that we are both vegetarians and one is a post bariatric surgery puzzle. He was so sweet and supportive that I would return here weekly if we were local! He made sure we had what we needed. 4. We ordered the roti, two tacos (Rasta & cauliflower) with coconut rice and plantain as the sides. The tacos were both so extra, so yummy, the roti was tasty- but the sweetness on top confused me- we loved the plantain but not the rice. We'd be back in a heartbeat.
