I visited Chapter IV for the first time over the weekend. My friend and I didn't have a reservation and it was a busy day but the hostess was so gracious to find us a table after a brief wait. That was a pleasant surprise and we were grateful. The space is bright and sunny and a bit on the sterile side but all the white gave it a clean and modern feel. Immediately upon being seated we were served water and took some time to look over the menu which has sooo many options. I ordered the catfish and grits with the corn maque choux and my friend ordered the crab cake, bbq shrimp and a side of grits. Everything tasted amazing. They really got the flavors right, which is not a surprise as this restaurant is the brainchild of the famous Dookie Chase family of restauranteurs. Loved so many things about this restaurant. I would have given it 4.5 Stars if it had been possible. The location was convenient, the building itself was bright and inviting. Beautiful on the plate and the pancakes were perfection. The chicken was perfectly cooked. Started with the Fried oyster appetizer, which was served on a bed of spinach & artichoke choke. The spinach was good but with a small amount of seasoning ( namely salt), it would have been perfection. However I believe it was possibly thought that the oyster would provide that with its seasoning. Close but not really. The same can be said about the fried chicken. A small amount of salt would have made it perfection as well. Mind you, I'm not a salt person. Rarely add it, so this should give you a more informed understanding of these comments. Again, both dishes were still quite good. The fish with crab friend rice was ordered by my husband. He also added a side of the house grits. The grits contained several types of cheese and were smooth and flavorful. He even enjoyed them, and is usually not a fan of cheese in his grits. As for the fish & rice, he raved. Late review but Chapter IV is by far one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. This visit my husband and I came in for brunch during Essence Weekend. We invited our couple friends to join us and once again the food, service, and vibes did not disappoint. Chapter IV feels like home now. The waitresses feel like family and it's just a warm inviting space. I had my usual Calm In the Morn espresso cocktail and my husband had a tequila old fashioned. My friend and I went to Chapter lV after church. Do we were there as soon as they opened for 9am, so missed the rush. Since I am trying to eat healthier, I decided to go with their beet salad, and their bowl of gumbo. It was exactly what I needed. I'm a butter and sugar grit kind of girl, and these didn't need nothing extra, I open a butter and didn't even use it. They were creamy and buttery and paired nice with the shrimp. I did get my cajun sauce on the side, which was nice as well. I ate the sauce with about a quarter of the dish. It was so good, I could have went without it. My friend had the pancake and chicken, which the pancake was HOMEMADE and you can tell, which was pure amazing. OMG. they were a great Grand size topped with power sugar, and crispy edges that I love. we both enjoyed the OJ which tasted very much homemade as well. The service was great, and friendly the setting was intimate and business casual. Perfect for everyday and special occasions. This is defiantly a place I want to explore their entire menu. This was my first time here . The ambiance seemed nice, decent music. We were a party of 25 and had a scaled down menu. So we were only able to get the items on that menu. Im assuming it was because the restaurant closed at 3 and our reservation time was for 1. They were not able to accommodate us with the variety of choices on the menu. I got the chicken and pancakes. The chicken breast did not have any flavor. The pancakes were very good buttery soft and airy. My cousin had the shrimp and grits. The sauce had a great flavor, but the shrimps were very rubbery and not sure if they were overcooked or undercooked. Because they looked clear . They were definitely not Louisiana shrimps which was disappointing seemed like frozen shrimps. The grits were very cheesy and had a decent taste. For Father's Day, Rachel and Pearlette took me to "Chapter IV," which is Edgar "Dook" Chase, IV's hip new restaurant in downtown New Orleans. Being from New Orleans and raised on Ms. Leah Chase's food from the historic "Dooky Chase Restaurant" on Orleans Avenue, I was expecting the best but would understand if it didn't quite measure up to Ms. Leah's cooking. I have to admit I wasn't disappointed; Ms. Leah taught Dook well. We started with the Oyster Rockefeller and Sweet Chili Wings and Ribs; both dishes were excellent. I am very particular about my fried oysters; they were fried perfectly, neither too soft nor too hard. They were crisp and tasty. The ribs and wings were also excellent, and the sweet chili sauce was delicious. Pearlette had creole gumbo, the right color, and taste. Then, for entrees, Pearlette had Grilled Redfish, crab fried rice (the first I had heard of this), and grilled squash and zucchini. What little she allowed me to eat was very tasty. Rachel had citrus-glazed salmon with charred asparagus and potatoes. Not only did this dish taste good, but the glazed salmon was beautiful. I had fish and grits (fried farmed-raised catfish), crawfish, and andouille maque choux creole grits. OMG! This meal was fantastic; the fish, fried to perfection, and the maque choux were outstanding, but the grits were truly exceptional. I am a Southerner, and I love my grits, but these grits were off the scale in goodness. We also had hot, homemade biscuits, which we used to sop up the Sweet Chili sauce. The entire experience was fantastic, and we plan on going again. The staff was friendly and professional. The restaurant, including the restroom, was orderly, well-appointed, and very clean. They also have very beautiful art work on the walls, that remind me of the many works of art that adorn the walls of the Dooky Chase restaurant. Excited to visit the newest restaurant from the legendary Ms. Leach Chase!!!! Chapter IV is squeaky clean, the white wall are super shiny, it's so clean!!! The space has a lot of natural light which I really like (nice for photos). The service was good. My friend and I went on a good day (Wednesday afternoon). It wasn't overly crowded (glad we missed the crazy lunch rush). Chapter IV does close really early (3:00 P.M.). It would be cool if they could have a little happy hour especially since it's in the CBD. The food is AMAZING! My friend and I were so satisfied! I had the fish and grits. My friend had the salmon.
