This place deserves to be rated high for its EXCELLENT culinary service! Not surprising at all as Chef Edgar "Dook" Chase is simply skilled in Creole cuisine and it shows through this gem. The ambiance was something amazing and each artwork told a unique story and brought an art gallery vibe across the restaurant. Great staff and very friendly team. Our waitress Kierra was so sweet and attentive, such great hospitality. The coffee was brewed to my loving. Ummm NOLA has some of the best coffee and this place lived up to the hype. FOOD I had the fish and grits and honestly, this was the BEST fish and grits I've EVER had. I need to break down each component to help you understand the magic. 1-The fish was fried to perfection, crispy and golden brown on the outside with a flaky juicy texture inside. 2-Next was the crawfish and andouille maque choux placed on top of the fish. Baby when I tell you that if they sold this online I would be their biggest customer. It was sooooooooooo scrumptious. WOW! Literally no comparison to this. 3-Lastly the grits...whatever culinary magic they used for this dish did not stop at the fish or the maque choux, no, it ran down to the grits-the most creamiest and delicious ever had. I added a biscuit on the side as a compliment but honestly, everything was incredible. We also had the BEST chicken and pancake ever and once again there is no comparison to how AMAZING the food here truly is. Add it to your must visit list!
Fantastic experience here for brunch. The ambiance was clean and elevated, our server was friendly, and the drinks were great. I really enjoyed my bloody Mary and pina colada. They were accommodating to my dietary restrictions and were able to get me a side of fried green tomatoes even though they weren't on the menu, and the grits were great. I would suggest that they put more vegetarian/vegan dishes on the menu in general, but otherwise, no critique.
This was my first time at this restaurant. The food here is delicious. The salmon and potatoes were tasty . My ultimate favorite was the redfish with the crab fried rice . The crab fried rice was a perfect match to go with the fish. The service was okay, nothing to go crazy about . I went on a Sunday , which means it was very busy and extremely loud ( I wasn't a fan of that ) . I'll definitely be back on a less busier day to try out more things ! I would definitely recommend to others.
Lisa was great and provide professionalservice. Location is modern and bright. Parking was easy with plenty of street and lot options in the area. The food was fresh and delicious. Several options with a spin. Mimosas were well crafted!
Amazing shrimp and grits, service was amazing and the atmosphere is very pleasant. We made reservations online and arrived prior to opening by a few minutes, but they allowed us to wait inside due to the rain and heat. That was a very nice gesture and set the tone for the rest of the visit. The menu had your traditional breakfast fare, such as bacon, eggs, pancakes. But I wanted shrimp and grits and I was not disappointed. The grits were creamy, flavorful, and I did not turn into a liquid mess once cool. Shrimp is deveined (YES!!!!) and it's a nice size portion. This restaurant is definitely on my list of New Orleans favorites. I'd like to return to try their other menu items. Do yourself a favor and go there ASAP!
A group of friends and I had brunch at this restaurant owned by Dook Chase. We were excited to dine here and get a taste of what New Orleans has to offer. I ordered a Lychee Blossom cocktail. It had a mild flavor incorporating Prosecco and elderflower. It was okay. For my meal, I ordered the Fried farm raised catfish, crawfish & andouille maque choux creole grits. My food lacked the flavor I was looking forward to. Not sure that I would dine here again for breakfast. Maybe I will give dinner a try. The best thing I had was my Arnold Palmer drink. The server was very good and made recommendations from the menu.

I came here with my family and everybody loved their food so much that we're cooking back for my nephews graduation breakfast. The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant itself was really nice. Very bright. Very clean. And very aesthetically pleasing. Also parking was decent. I was able to find street parking nearby.
Great little Restaurant great service good food. Overall, I had the gumbo and the crabcake. They were all very nice. I'll have to come back here with the Wife and some friends. The Parking situation is not good. He's paid to park on the street so you gotta plan this timing you just gotta get lucky there might be a parking garage two or three blocks away but it's a good place to have lunch if you find parking, I also have breakfast general, New Orleans, food, menu, salads, drinks, and specialty cocktails I recommend it nice ambience and the art was nice as well.
Located on a cute little street. You walk in to a small quaint restaurant. The hostess at the door greeted us and asked if we had reservations. So I assume you can make them in advance. Luckily; we didn't need it at the time for lunch. The waitress was attentive, polite and pleasant. I love the extra attention to filling my water glass. The food came in pretty fast and was delicious. You can pay via the QR code on the receipt which was seamless. Overall, Greta dining experience
The staff were great My old fashion was perfect! The ambiance is loud. The bathroom was clean Our 12:30 reservation was halted because it started raining and the power went out. We we to another spot and then was called back that the power came back on. Whew came for Saturday brunch to celebrate a birthday. Party of 20. I got the chicken sandwich with sauce and pickles on the side. The sauce was sweet and so are the pickles. Not a fan of sweet pickles. I didn't finish it because it was just bland, fried well though. I did try my partners chicken and pancakes which I should've gotten. Pancakes were crispy edged and fluffy but th chicken wasn't seasoned so maybe a no to that as well. Other than that, everything was good. I may come back to try something else I ordered the sandwich due to the reviews here on Yelp. You guys steered me wrong
My first time brunching in New Orleans and I'm glad it was at the beautiful location Chapter IV. This spot is walking distance from the Saints football stadium and Pelicans basketball stadium which is perfect for people who want to indulge in good food and sports. When we walked in we were greeted by manager Erin who was so nice and felt like a friend from home. The interior was lively, with a bar and tv for those who want to watch the games. Our waiter Jena was very helpful and gave us the best recommendations. My husband and I loved her! We ordered the following: Brunch champagne mimosas special, Oyster Rockefeller, Crab fried rice, Crab cake, Gumbo, Bbq shrimp omelette, Seafood pasta, Bread pudding. Every single thing was so full of flavor and delicious. The drinks were hitting, and the gumbo and bbq shrimp omelette were my fave! But the very best thing on the menu was the bread pudding...OMG my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Come to find out this Black owned establishment is the son of Dooky Chase restaurant. It's great to see how much African American culture is celebrated here on the walls with the beautiful pictures. I can't wait to come back and also I hope to check out the original Dooky Chase restaurant one day!
Chapter IV was one of the best dining experiences I had during my recent trip to New Orleans. The restaurant is owned by Chef Dion Chase, grandson of the late great Leah Chase. I had them bookmarked on Yelp, but one of the local drivers said they have some of the best gumbo so I knew I had to see for myself. I called prior to arriving to inquire if they would be able to accommodate a party of 6 and was told to come on in. The restaurant is bright and modern. The menu has a good mix of Louisiana staples as well as some other stand out dishes. I wanted to taste a bit of everything, so I ordered the gumbo, sweet chili wings and ribs and the oysters Rockefeller. The gumbo was fantastic! I wish I could've taken some back home, lol. The sweet chili wings and ribs were a favorite amongst our table. The meat was a bit crisp and tender on the inside. The oyster Rockefeller was good too. The oysters were fried, places on top of creamed spinach and topped with pickled red onions. One dish amongst the group was sent back, but overall everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Our server was outstanding! She was so personable and even recommended some other places to check out during our stay.
Beautiful spot! I made Friday lunch reservations for 2 through Resy. Street parking was available. There is paid parking on the left side of the street and free parking on the right side. We were seated at bar table with an outside view. The decor was beautiful but our high table was wobbly. Our server was a nice young lady. She made a great suggestion for mocktails. We went with the Leah's Garden. It was sweet and delicious. We started with the Thai Chili Ribs and Wings. These were good. 3 wings and 3 ribs. For our entrees we both went with the grilled redfish served with crab fried rice and yellow and green zucchini. This dish was just okay. The fish was seasoned well but the crab fried rice was a big let down. It tasted like boxed rice with carrots and added piece of crab. The zucchini lacked flavor. Overall, great atmosphere. I'd probably return to try more appetizers and brunch. read more

Such a beautiful restaurant with AMAZING food! The only reason, and I mean ONLY reason I knocked off one star is because the service was a bit slow. The restaurant is minimal and gorgeous, I really loved the artwork. We all enjoyed our food, and wish we had another day in New Orleans to go again and enjoy another dish on the menu. For food, you have to get the shrimp and grits. THEY WERE SO GOOD. The grits were creamy and yummy. The taste of the shrimp My man got the chicken and pancakes - also very good. I really enjoyed the pancakes. We also loved the bread pudding, especially the crispy edges! If you're in New Orleans, you have to try this spot out! read more
I love this place real bad. My mom, brother and I went there for Mother's Day, was unaware that there was a modified menu until we got there. Was sort of disappointed at first because I wanted their Squid Ink Pasta but the fish and grits did not disappoint. The fish was hot and crispy and the grits were so creamy. Our server, whose name I forgot, was very pleasant and patient, especially since another person in our party was late. The restaurant in itself is really nice. The whole ambiance is laid back and refreshing. I recommend this place to anyone who asks about brunch. Definitely can't wait to visit again. I had to come back and say, that bread pudding, OMG. read more
About 3.75 stars. This is high class southern cuisine. There is plenty of customers even during lunch. There is one menu for lunch and dinner. Basically is sandwich, small plate, shareable, soup and entree. They do have cocktails on reverse side of menu. I am here for the blackened redfish. I have it extra blackened with crab fried rice as a bed and stir fry squash. The blackened redfish is delicious. We also got a shareable for crawfish and Andouille corn Maque Choux. This is creamy corn crawfish andouille sausage. It great dish. Service is a bit mixup. But got corrected. read more

I loved everything about this place! We sat at the bar for brunch before heading to the Saints game, and it was the perfect start to the day. I definitely recommend making a reservation because it was packed. Both the food and service were top tier. I had the mimosa and oysters Benedict ...absolutely delicious. First time here and everything was amazing. We didn't have a reservation and was seated quickly! Our server was really nice and patient. The menu was very concise and straightforward. My party got everything different and it was sooo good. That corn and crab bisque was 10/10 and the sticky wings and ribs were fire as well! The place is very well decorated and I loved that they didn't have a grass wall! I def recommend coming here. It was soooo worth it! read more

Each meal was extremely tasty. Everyone got a taste of each meal and could have been satisfied with either choice. We made reservations 2 weeks in advance!,we were in town for a celebration. This proved to be a great move. We arrived early, and were seated before our time. The service was great, our server was engaging and nice as she indulged our giddiness. It is a social gathering place so the noise, conversations and laughter filled the room. Will definitely be on list for next visit. read more
Came for birthday brunch festivities for family. We were a huge group so kudos to the staff for trying to remain attentive. The oyster Rockefeller was a great start to the meal. The ambience is very nice and clean. Simple aesthetic so it could be to dress up or dress down. The menu is very straight forward with options for breakfast and lunch all day. We opted for the fish and grits which was amazing, the bbq shrimp omelette which was loaded with shrimp and the crab fried rice that had nice fresh crab. The veggies in the rice were a bit too Al dente for me but overall it was good. The only weird thing was the hostess seemed like she didn't know where we should sit and went to ask the waitress when that's literally her only job. She seemed to be more into her phone than helping us get seated but our waitress was very nice and helpful. read more

My coworker is from the north shore and when we decided to meet up for lunch we both had this restaurant at the top of our list. We did make a reservation, but when we got there (around noon on a Friday), there seemed to be plenty open seating. I love the layout and design of the restaurant. It is very open and inviting and not too crowded with tables. The food did not disappoint! The salmon was cooked to perfection- very juicy and flavorful. The martini was the perfect balance of sweetness, coffee, and liquor. As you can see from my photos, the dishes and drinks were beautifully presented as well. Our server was very attentive but not overbearing. I can't wait to go back to try more food! read more

Probably the best meal and service of my entire visit to NOLA. I was so pleased with the service that I had to speak to the manager as we left the restaurant and verbalize my praise. I enjoyed a bowl and gumbo and two soft scrambled eggs. Our server managed a table of demanding 13 patrons with expertise and a smile. I tasted the bread pudding and pancakes - both delicious! I stopped in recently and sat at the bar. The service was friendly and attentive, and I really enjoyed my drink. The appetizer I ordered, the gumbo, was also delicious--definitely the highlight of the meal. For my entrée, I went with the Caesar salad and added shrimp. Unfortunately, this was where the experience fell short. The Caesar dressing didn't taste like a true Caesar at all--it was very oily and lacked the bold, tangy flavor you'd expect. At one point, I even asked the server if she was sure it was Caesar dressing because it just didn't taste right. I also paid about $12 extra for the shrimp, and while there were around seven, it still felt overpriced given the quality of the salad. I also ordered smothered okra to go, and honestly, it was probably the worst okra I've ever had. Very disappointing, especially compared to how good the gumbo was. Ambience-wise, it was fine. The football game was on at the bar, so it had a casual, laid-back vibe, nothing particularly special but not bad either. Overall, I'd come back for the gumbo and drinks, but I'd skip the salad and definitely wouldn't recommend the smothered okra. read more

The Oyster Benedict and the chicken and ribs were finger licking good. The okra and Corn Maque Choux were okay. My service yesterday was top notch! I sat at the bar on Saturday, June 7th and truly enjoyed the service and conversation. The restaurant is cute place! It's been about two years since I was last here because the service wasn't the best. It was soooooo good yesterday, that I will be back sooner than later. read more

I've heard such great things about Chapter IV and had been longing to try next time I was in the area. I stopped by during the week so there weren't many people inside. The restaurant is very beautiful indoors and I noticed they even had an area for outdoor seating. I was greeted immediately and all of the staff were super friendly. I opted to try the oyster Rockefeller and the catfish and grits. The fried oyster itself was fried to perfection and was pretty good, however the creamed spinach, jalapeños, and pickled onions accompanying the dish were just okay. I didn't feel as if it added to the dish, but more so brought it down. This could be a great starter but I think there needs to be something done differently to give it that wow effect! The catfish and grits presentation wise looked outstanding, but taste wise not so much. I was expecting to be wowed but it was just okay. The sausage inside was good, I did like that, however the catfish reminded me of frozen fish and that, I did not like. The corn maque choux atop of the fish was promising but seemed to lack seasoning. The grits were okay too I'd give them a 6.5/10. All in all chapter iv is a beautiful restaurant with really wonderful staff, I could definitely see tourists enjoying this place. I just wished I enjoyed it a little bit more read more
This place has been on my list for brunch for awhile, and I enjoyed the experience. Although the service was a bit on the slower side, our waitress communicated well and checked in when she could as it was a busy Saints Sunday. For my cocktail, I ordered a French 75 with cognac and it was the best I've had in a while. For appetizers, I ordered the gumbo and BBQ shrimp. The gumbo had a great flavor and was full of seafood and meat and the BBQ shrimp were my favorite. The sauce was buttery and rich in flavor. For my entree, my cousin and I shared the catfish and grits and seafood linguini pasta because it was just too hard to choose. The pasta was good but the catfish and grits stole the show. The grits were so creamy, the sauce was a red sauce, which was different from a usually fish and grits sauce, but I loved it and it also came with a maque choux and crispy fried fish. I am definitely ordering it again. And for dessert the apple cobbler yum! This is a cute brunch spot I loved the open windows, art and openness of the restaurant I will be back. read more

Mixed review here: 3/5 for service, 5/5 for food We made a reservation but when we got there about 10 minutes early, the hostess seemed annoyed that we were early. We didn't mind waiting but she just pointed to a corner and said to wait there. Our waitress was much better, so props to her. The food was SO. GOOD. we got the smothered okra, which felt like a jambalaya and was so rich. i got the chicken and pancakes and i swear i was eating a funnel cake. Delicious. Husband got the catfish and grits, and the grits were the most flavorful and creamy i've ever had. Atmosphere was fine, it felt weirdly clean (idk maybe that's just me). Overall, I'd go back, just maybe earlier in the day. read more
Wow! What an amazing restaurant. I loved the aesthetic of the place, it has great natural lightning and beautiful artwork. We didn't have reservations but was greeted warmly and seated almost immediately. Our server Chloe was phenomenal. She provided excellent customer service. She was the consummate professional. I had the gumbo and the Louisiana blue crab and beet salad. The gumbo was perfection, great color and flavor. The salad was unique and a perfect culmination of flavors. Visited again with my sister, and service was super fast and the food was great. Their chicken and waffles are my personal favorite! The pancakes were slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy in the center, which was perfect! The oysters were good, but not as seasoned as I remember from last time. I enjoyed the corn and crab bisque, as well! It was a good consistency with a balanced flavor profile. I'll be back soon! read more
The prices were shockingly good for the quality of the food. I got the crab and beet salad and was surprised by the amount of grab and beets. Genuinely surprised! Added to how delicious it was and they've turned me into someone recommending the restaurant to strangers. Good place for having conversations while eating. Not too loud in the place. Service was a little forgetful of our drinks but once reminded, they were brought out immediately. Not a knock because sometime you just get super distracted as a server and with a little reminder, it was addressed ASAP. read more
I visited Chapter IV for the first time over the weekend. My friend and I didn't have a reservation and it was a busy day but the hostess was so gracious to find us a table after a brief wait. That was a pleasant surprise and we were grateful. The space is bright and sunny and a bit on the sterile side but all the white gave it a clean and modern feel. Immediately upon being seated we were served water and took some time to look over the menu which has sooo many options. I ordered the catfish and grits with the corn maque choux and my friend ordered the crab cake, bbq shrimp and a side of grits. Everything tasted amazing. They really got the flavors right, which is not a surprise as this restaurant is the brainchild of the famous Dookie Chase family of restauranteurs. I'd definitely go here for brunch again. read more
First time visiting chapter IV while in town for Jazz fest! Ambiance is great, it's quiet, very bright and clean! Service was great, we had a reservation but were immediately sat and greeted with waters. Our server Jasmine answered our questions and suggested some great options. Late review but Chapter IV is by far one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. This visit my husband and I came in for brunch during Essence Weekend. We invited our couple friends to join us and once again the food, service, and vibes did not disappoint. Chapter IV feels like home now. The waitresses feel like family and it's just a warm inviting space. I had my usual Calm In the Morn espresso cocktail and my husband had a tequila old fashioned. We both ordered the Catfish and grits. The food is always hot and delicious. Our friends seemed to enjoy their food as well. Came here for lunch today. I had the filet minion medium with creamed spinach, crab fried rice and potatoes. My coworker had the burger and fries with sweet chili ribs and wings. Loved so many things about this restaurant. I would have given it 4.5 Stars if it had been possible. The location was convenient, the building itself was bright and inviting. The service was exceptional! From the Greeter to the server, kind, welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable. All while making the customer fell comfortable and at home. Couldn't ask for better. The menu was exciting, containing a twist on the common with its crab fried rice, and chicken with pancakes. I liked the uniqueness. As for the food, I had the latter. Chicken & pancakes. Beautiful on the plate and the pancakes were perfection. The chicken was perfectly cooked. Started with the Fried oyster appetizer, which was served on a bed of spinach & artichoke choke. The spinach was good but with a small amount of seasoning ( namely salt), it would have been perfection. However I believe it was possibly thought that the oyster would provide that with its seasoning. Close but not really. The same can be said about the fried chicken. A small amount of salt would have made it perfection as well. Mind you, I'm not a salt person. Rarely add it, so this should give you a more informed understanding of these comments. Again, both dishes were still quite good. The fish with crab friend rice was ordered by my husband. He also added a side of the house grits. The grits contained several types of cheese and were smooth and flavorful. He even enjoyed them, and is usually not a fan of cheese in his grits. As for the fish & rice, he raved. Loved every bite of it. We enjoyed our meal very much and will absolutely return. I'll end by saying this restaurant does the family legacy proud! Well done! read more

My friend and I went to Chapter lV after church. Do we were there as soon as they opened for 9am, so missed the rush. Since I am trying to eat healthier, I decided to go with their beet salad, and their bowl of gumbo. It was exactly what I needed. The gumbo was really good and seasoned well, ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture lol. Beet salad, comes with crab, was just what I needed, it was refreshing and I was full without feeling heavy. Will be frequenting this restaurant every chance I get! read more

Service was fast, Dussè French 75 was spot on. BBQ shrimp had this smoke/citrus flavor that I never knew I needed. A lot of sauce so bread was soggy. Catfish and grits. Can never go wrong. I visited Chapter IV for lunch. The food and service was good. I had the citrus glazed salmon with the crab fried rice which I really enjoyed but found the portion size a little small (I have a hearty appetite ). Since I had room I got bread pudding which was pretty traditional. There are a few other things I want to try on the menu so I'll be back. read more

The walk up to the building was great, the exterior & interior was Beautiful for this Halloween Birthday Queen. We really enjoyed breakfast at Chapter IV. I indulge in the Shrimp and Grits for the first time (yes I'm a black girl who never had Shrimp and Grit until 36.) Both were made to perfection. The grits didn't need anything. I'm a butter and sugar grit kind of girl, and these didn't need nothing extra, I open a butter and didn't even use it. They were creamy and buttery and paired nice with the shrimp. I did get my cajun sauce on the side, which was nice as well. I ate the sauce with about a quarter of the dish. It was so good, I could have went without it. My friend had the pancake and chicken, which the pancake was HOMEMADE and you can tell, which was pure amazing. OMG. they were a great Grand size topped with power sugar, and crispy edges that I love. we both enjoyed the OJ which tasted very much homemade as well. The service was great, and friendly the setting was intimate and business casual. Perfect for everyday and special occasions. This is defiantly a place I want to explore their entire menu. Chapter 4 is officially added to my MUST DINE every time I'm in NOLA. read more
