I will preface by saying Nick and Rob were the two salesmen I delt with and they were GREAT. I will also say I did buy a CX-5 from this location and so far am happy with the car itself. The reason I am giving 2 stars will come down to the manager Dave and the finance guy Hon. I went there and met with Nick to test drive a 2019 or 2020 white cx-5 but wasn't happy with how it handled, it felt loose and when compared to the other Mazdas I was looking at it just wasn't what I was looking for. I let Nick know what I was looking for so he could keep me in mind if anything came in. The next day, I got a call from Dave, the manager saying they just got in a 2021 CX-5 on trade with the trim I might be looking for the night before, so I came back to check it out. Dave started off really friendly, Nick was working with another client, so Rob came to assist me. Rob was great and personable, and we took it for a drive. It wasn't cleaned up yet since it just came it but it felt like it handled well, and I was happy with it. When we sat down to go over the numbers is where Dave, in my opinion turned semi-unprofessional/shady.. He tried to add on a charge for tint that the car already had from the trade-in and a charge for the protection filim, again that the car already had from the trade-in. In my opinion, this is just a shady practice. I have seen this at another Mazda dealership, too, so buyer beware. We negotiated on the price of the car for a bit, and the car still needed to be certified and cleaned, but it was late in the evening. I was not going to finance the car and wasn't going to fully commit to anything until the car was inspected and certified. I was also paying cash for the car and was not going to finance. I offered to leave a deposit and once the car was certified I could come back the next day and buy it, Dave was trying to apply pressure and telling me he already had another buyer lined up and wanted a cashiers check... It was 8 pm at this point, and obviously, I didn't have a cashiers check. Then he said I needed to fill out finance paperwork to hold the car so they could run my credit. I was not looking to finance the car, and it would have been an unnecessary hit to my credit. Dave was really trying to apply pressure to make the sale. I left and told them to call me once the car was certified, and I could come back the next day with a check. I went to the bank the next day for the cashiers check and called to see who the check needed to be made out to. I was waiting for a call back when I saw the car listed on the Chapman Hyundai (connected to the mazda dealership) website for $500 less, same vin. When I got the call back from Dave to tell me who to make the check out to, I asked him to honor the lower price. He got an attitude and kept saying he had another buyer coming at four if I wasn't interested anymore and that he would typically charge another $999 for it being certified. I ended up moving forward with the purchase. We started the paperwork when I arrived at the dealership. That's when I met Hon to complete the paperwork. Hon was filling in for someone who had the day off apparently and was annoyed that I wanted to read all the paperwork I was signing. He literally said I was "being anal retentive" for wanting to read everything and made a comment that he "couldn't live that way" as if l had asked for his opinion. Like WTF? So, once, again, I just felt rushed through the process and disrespected for wanting to protect myself by reviewing the paperwork properly. All of this pressure was put on me to rush through the process, and yet I still had to sit at the deslership and wait several hours for the car to be ready. Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with the car-buying experience even though I am happy with my purchase so far. It's been a few days, and I am enjoying the car. That said, I would not recommend this dealership for a good buying experience. read more

Bought several cars from this dealership when they had a salesman named Michael. He was very thorough and handled EVERY detail of the transaction. Trade in, transferring all the motor vehicle info, insurance, new plates etc. Well Michael is no longer there. Every part of my last purchase was handled in a TRULY non professional manor. Most important they never instructed me that I had to do the plate transfer as well as insurance. I left some items in my trade in and asked them to hold them for me. When i got there they misteriously disappeared, the registration and insurance were not transferred. So I was still paying the state for registration on the trade in . There was NO insurance on my new car. It cost me thousands of dollars because I was driving an uninsured vehicle for over 6 months. I went back for my first service and expressed my disappoinment to the salesmanager. He was combative. Didn't even offer me a bottle of water or even try to give me a courtesy discount on my oil change. I by a car on average every 18 months as I drive alot. I found a different dealer and was treated with the type of customer service I am used to. My familly own several Mazdas. NEVER AGAIN. read more

After my review I was contacted by management they placated me, he told me the mechanic had been let go. I don't believe them for a minute. I didn't ask for anything and they didn't offer me anything, the last thing I would want to see is the mechanic fired. They were, I'm sure, just saying anything to get me to remove the review. Corporate money machines with little or no ethics is my guess. I could be wrong, choose for yourselves. I was able to schedule an online appointment the day before. when I Bruce, the service agent was helpful and anticipated what the issue was with my car based on visible signs. He gave me an estimate estimated pick up time and the car was ready well in advance of that time. I liked frequent text messages about the status of my service and photo confirmation of the work done. read more

Purchased a 2011 VW Jetta. When I took the car home I finally had time to look underneath the car and saw a major oil leak that appeared to have exsisted for a while, at the time of purchase, I did not have a flashlight and could not look well under the car. I reported the findings asap and returned the car to Chapman under the 500 miles, 15-day rule. Chapman claimed that they tightened some screw and topped off the oil. When I got home, I checked the oil level, and it was still short at least 1qt. I monitored the oil drops and noticed that they continued. Due to the distance of the dealership, logistics, losing work time I was not able to return the vehicle again. Also, at this point I did not trust Chapman's claims. I should note that I paid for the car with a credit card and a personal check in full. At the time of purchase, I did not have another driver with me to take possession of the car, so I made arrangements to return the next day for the car. The night of the purchase, the sales rep called me and told me that I could not take possession of the car the next day until the check cleared. With the pending holiday and weekend, it would have been at least three days for the personal check to clear. had I known of having to wait for the check to clear I would have taken my business somewhere else. Also, the financial representative never advised me of the need to have the check clear when I signed the paperwork. What was frustrating was that, had I had a driver with me the day of the purchase, I would have taken possession of the car at the time of signing the paperwork and the whole check clearing thing would have been moot. The sales rep then told me over the phone I could take possession of the car the next day, but I would have to "sign a paper." The next day I went back to the dealer to pick up the car and noticed that the "paper" was a credit application. I objected to the credit application because I did not want my credit run since, I was paying in full. The sales rep assured me that the signing of the form was just as a backup incase my check bounced, and I was assured that my credit would not be checked if the check cleared. a few days later I learned through Chase Bank that my credit was run by Chapman, in other words they lied. A few weeks later I received a letter from Experian confirming the credit check. After researching oil leaks regarding Jettas, I replaced the outer vacuum brake pump seal, which was leaking, however the leaks continued. I then took the car to my mechanic where they identified the harmonic balancer ring/gasket leaking. My mechanic replaced the seal and did some additional work. I had to pay over $800 for the HB leak. The source of the leaks were much more than just the tightening of a screw. Any decent mechanic would have identified the leaks and addressed them accordingly, which Chapman did not do. I believe the sales reps scammed me out of a known issue that was not disclosed or properly addressed. I will not recommend Chapman or purchase from them again. read more

My wife actually left a 5 star review on here for this dealer after she purchased her Mazda 3. Over the last 5 years we have had the car serviced at this dealer - and been happy with the result. However, yesterday she came in for an oil change (the car was due for one, and Mazda has a promotion for teachers.) The service writer was irritated and snippy because my wife failed to mention the promotion to him before the service was done - despite the fact my wife mentioned it when booking the service. The worst part is - however - that apparently Chapman Mazda is making up for the loss of sales revenue due to the vehicle shortage by charging absolutely unreasonable prices for service. For example, one line item on the estimate for my wife's 3 was new spark plugs (x4.) This service is very simple. You remove the plastic engine cover (no tools required,) four very easily accessible bolts and connectors to remove the coil packs, and then R&R the plugs. The service at any reputable shop would be charged out at .25 - .5 hour labor. The Spark plugs (factory uses NGK) even with a 50% markup are less than $30 dollars each. The price quote by Chapman for this very simple service was $339.40 dollars. They also quote 239.39 to replace two serpentine belts, and $354.61 to change the easily accessible belt tensioner. $594 dollars to do two maintenance items that should not be "booked out" at more than 2 hours labor and $150 in parts (with markup.) I checked prices at their competition (Mazda dealer in Phoenix) and Chapman was far and away more expensive. The alignment they quoted us was $50 more than a rival Mazda dealer, for example. I have been a mechanic for over 20 years, and I am a good one. We chose to have her car serviced at this dealer because previously the pricing was fair and the service was nice. They have lost a customer, who not only purchased a vehicle from them, but also chose to have the vehicle serviced there. read more

Super disappointed. We went to look at a specific vehicle. I called ahead of time to make sure they had it. We do not live super close, so I wanted to make sure it was there. I was told it was. Then we get there and it's not there. I gave the stock number. How hard can it be to answer that simple question? We were then directed to look at the a few of the same model, same year, same mileage, upwards of $7k more than the vehicle we originally came to see. Price point was one of the things we liked about the vehicle we came to see and I had mentioned that to the manager who was offering his apologies for being told the vehicle was there when it was not. The salesman was very nice (and new, learning the hard way I guess), and did text us a few minutes before we arrived to tell us he was still trying to get his hands on the vehicle to make sure it was available to see. This was after I had called and was already told it was there and available, and with that information we had already headed that way. It was a waste of our gas, and our time. After having a few less-than-choice car shopping experiences, I decided to visit Chapman Mazda because they had the car I knew I wanted on their lot (2020 MX-5). I was greeted by a friendly salesman (Cody) who was refreshingly low-BS, but actually just really liked cars. The challenge was getting the car to a price I was comfortable with, and ultimately we did a song and dance that worked. I do not regret my car at all - it is one of the best purchases I've made. I don't regret purchasing from Chapman either, although I do think they had some odd non-consumer-friendly policies and could use some CDC training. I understand science is politicized now and all that, but honestly, businesses should just follow the CDC recommendations. While Cody was really cool about it all, the sales manager or whoever the "pressure man" was, some guy named Ali, didn't wear a mask the entire time, which was off-putting. But honestly, having done the car shopping circuit, this seems to be how car dealerships are right now. I don't get it, but I would be nervous going back as cases spike. Aside from the mask issue, the other gripe I have is with some of their sales policies that don't really feel clean. First, they force you to sign an arbitration agreement with no option to waive it. (This is legal, but...) Second, they also force you into a maintenance contract with them, even if they take the money off elsewhere. I told them up front that I am moving out of state and can't use their maintenance package, so I ended up paying for something I didn't really need. I also could not get a straight answer if it is transferable, so I think the answer is no. In the end, the numbers were something I could walk away with not feeling sick by. I just didn't like the answer that the owner of the dealership decided these non-consumer-friendly things are the cost of doing business with them. I was flat told that if you don't want to arbitrate, he doesn't want to do business with you because he doesn't want to get sued. Arbitrations can also be a hassle, which I know from my profession. If I wasn't buying a very specific car that is limited in supply, I may have gone elsewhere. (There are 50 CX-5s for every MX-5). But I love the car, Cody was cool, and Mazdas are solid, reliable cars, so I am not sweating the other stuff as much. read more

He answered every question I had and showed me all the cool features during the test drive with enthusiasm.
